  • Linux Mplayer Instead of flash any distro/browser

    The thing is that flash sucks for linux on 64-bit, performance vice. Due to this I actually download every clip to a temp folder and play the file while it's being downloaded with mplayer. This works really nice. Flash is not to play a video. Does there exist a plugin for this for any browser? I tried google, but I can't find the right words to search for.

    I need to write a CGI program and it will display the output of a system command: script.sh echo "++++++" VAR=$(expect -c " spawn ssh -o StrictHostKeyChecking=no $USER@$HOST $CMD match_max 100000 expect \"*?assword:*\" send -- \"$PASS\r\" send -- \"\r\" expect eof ") echo $VAR echo "++++++" In CGI file: my $command= "ksh ../cgi-bin/script.sh"; my @output= `$command`; print @output; Finally, when I run the CGI file in unix, the $VAR is a very long string including \n and some delimiters. However, when I run on web server, the output is ++++++ ++++++ So $VAR is missing when passing in the web interface/browser. I know maybe the problem is $VAR is very long string. But anyway, is there anyway to solve this problem except writing the output to a file then retrieve it from browser? Thanks if you are interested in my question.

    I am using: - Linux Mint 11 - Geforce 560ti - nVidia driver (installed via helper programm, not from nvidia page) The third party nvidia drivers radomly cause very poor 2D performance. Radomly because the performance can be very great, but after the next reboot or login become very poor. After another reboot or login, this might change again to better or worse. I have no idea why and how and I need your help. Thank you.

What are my options besides SMB (SAMBA)? Does OpenAFS support user level authentication & access? Using mounted WebDAV/ftp/sshfs seems silly for LAN.

  • Linux-Mint Maya Mate loses Alt-F1 menu and Alt-F2 run-dialog with Compiz

    I like the Linux-Mint 13 Mate Alt-F1 menu and the Alt-F2 run-dialog, but as soon as I installed Compiz those keys became non-functional. Conpiz has a Gnome compaatibility settings panel which allows you to set these keys, but using that Compix settings panel did not make any diference (probably because Mate is not Gnome, strictly speaking)... Is there some way to get those two shortcut keys back into acton with Compiz?

  • Avoid linux out-of-memory application teardown

    I'm finding that on occasion my Linux box runs out of memory and it starts tearing down random processes to deal with it. I'm curious what administrators do to avoid this? Is the only real solution to up the amount of memory (will upping the swap alone help?), or is there better ways to set up the box with software to avoid this? (i.e., quotas, or some such?).   • How do you reset a USB device from the command line?

    Is it possible to reset the connection of a USB device, without physically disconnecting/connecting from the PC? Specifically, my device is a digital camera. I'm using gphoto2, but lately I get "device read errors", so I'd like to try to do a software-reset of the connection. From what I can tell, there are no kernel modules being loaded for the camera. The only one that looks related is usbhid.

    I've been googling for about 4 hours now with no luck. I am trying to setup a Linux server running Oracle Server 6.3 as a Fiber Channel host. And then connect it to a Dell Compellent Fibre Channel Host contain a 500GB Volume. The Oracle server itself contains two Brocade 815 FC HBAs. I've discovered their WWN(I think) via cat /sys/class/fc_host/host1/port_name 0x100000051efc3d85 cat /sys/class/fc_host/host2/port_name 0x100000051efc3d9f The next part is where I am at a loss. I've used iSCSI before...is FC the same deal where you have an initiator and a target? If so where do I specific that in linux? I'm also new to Fiber Channel as a protocol, so i am unsure what is needed to make a transaction? WWN and port ID? Similar to IP:Port combination in the Ethernet world. I've read alot regarding using systool, multipath, fc_transport commands, however none of these is recognized as a valid command from Oracle Server 6.3 Appreciate the guidance and assistance. All mails sent to user "dev" are forwarded via a /home/dev/.forward file, with this sender : [email protected]. host.mydomain.fr is the hostname of this server, but it's an internal server and it does not even have a public IP.
