• IE HTTPS Ajax request image not showing up

  Hi: In IE (7 or 8) and HTTPS mode, following RESPONSE is delivered for an AJAX request. My issue is the img was NOT requested at all by IE (figured out using Fiddler), broken img is shown instead. It all works perfectly in HTTP mode in IE and other browsers no problem rendering in both mode (please don't tell me not to use IE). Any thoughts/work-arounds/suggestions? • Loop through text nodes inside a div

  I am trying to do a text replace, but to do so, i need to loop through the text nodes of a div. Each Div upon clicking, loads via ajax it's appropriate content. But then I need to do text-replacing inside any of the text nodes inside there. My current code, after loading the ajax content, loops through all text nodes of the whole page, and therefore is too resource intensive. I have been looking for hours trying to find out how to both loop thru a div, and get the text nodes... and this has to work in firefox, google chrome and ie6. Any thoughts or suggestions?

• Ruby email_veracity_checker getting Recipient OK for invalid emails

  I was testing out email_veracity_checker from rails console and found that when I tested a google apps domain (w/ catchall), yahoo and another company domain, the smtp server always returned 250 recipient ok for invalid emails (wellformed, but bogus). It seems that these servers are always returning OK perhaps to prevent email harvesting. But it does seem to raise the question 'why even validate up-front', is this approach even valid in today's environment? Note: gmail did return 550 email account doesn't exist for invalid. related to How check if an email exist without send in Ruby?   I have a 100% silverlight 3.0 / f# 2.0 application I am wrapping my brain around. I have the base application loading correctly - and now I want to add the naigation controls to it. My page is stored as an embedded resource - but the Frame.Navigate takes a URI. • Displaying images in a console application?!

  I have a console application which screen scrapes some data, and now I need to do image comparisons. If the images are different, I want to show the images to the user. What's the best way to display two images during the execution of a console application? I'm assuming I would use some sort of inter-process communication to send information back and forth, but I'm not sure how exactly I would go about doing that in a good fashion. Also, I'd rather NOT store the images to files if possible. There's no reason to persist the data, and if the console application terminates unexpectedly, it's better if I don't have any dirt left on the file system. Does anyone have any thoughts on how best to accomplish this?

• Can Hibernate automatically uppercase a column on read/insert via configuration?

  We have some columns with data that must always be in uppercase to ensure uniqueness. I was wondering if hibernate can force all such columns to uppercase via some configuration file change? We actually use a custom UserType for encrypting/decrypting column data for some other table, but I figured that would be overkill just to uppercase everything... Alternatively, I was thinking about modifying the models such that all getters/setters will uppercase any string coming and going. The worst(?) case scenario is to modify the Oracle column constraint to ignore case while checking uniqueness. Any thoughts?

  Can i track the http referer with javascript, and append a variable to the URL string to store into a dbase? or could i track a cookie that the user gets? (very layman's terms here, sorry) if http referrer is domain.com add to url '&referer=google' which should stay with them during their session. OR when a user clicks my Google adwords ad. they get a cookie with a referring domain in it. try to read that cookie, and append the same variable. any thoughts?

  I'm using the systemfit() function to conduct a seemingly unrelated regression and am getting the following error: Error in solve(sigma, tol = solvetol) : Lapack routine dsptrf returned error code 1 Yet, I'm unable to find the meaningful interpretation of what the error suggests is going on. • PHP Retrieve Cookie which was not set with setcookie

  I have the following problem - a third party software is setting a cookie with the login credentials and then forward the user to my app. I now need to retrieve the cookie values: The problem is - I can do this easily in the Frontend/AS3 with var ticket : String = CookieUtil.getCookie( 'ticket' ).toString(); but in PHP, the cookie is not within the $_COOKIES array. The cookie values are: Name: ticket Domain: .www.myserver.com Path : / Send for: encrypted connections only Expires: at end of session The one I see, and set before in PHP is: Name: myCookie Host: www.myserver.com Path : / Send for: any type of connection Expires: at end of session Actually, since host/domain are both the same, it should be visible in the PHP script, since it is running on this domain. • How dangerous can javascript be? (is noscript worth the trouble)?

  I have recently started using noscript (in addition to ABP). It took a little while to get used to it and can occasionally require some clicking when visiting a new site to investigate why the site's not working and where I need to allow javascript from. Is the extra security worth it? Some of the controversy is discussed here. I suppose it boils down to a matter of whether javascript is a genuine threat to your computer or not. Any thoughts on this?

  I've got a PC and a Samsung Eternity (that's a cell phone). I'd like to use my Eternity as remote control for my PC. Here's how I think I have to go about it: Write a desktop app (server) that accepts a connection from my cell. Write an app (client) for my cell through which I can establish a connection to the server and send commands to it. The server then executes the commands (e.g. adjust volume, pause/resume movie) Thoughts on that? Spot on or way off? Regarding the Eternity: What's a good way to get started with that? I'm guessing that I'll have to get the SDK. Does anyone have a good place to start/tutorial for that? Regarding the server: Does Java come with Bluetooth connectivity straight out of the box or do I need to fetch a library for that from somewhere? If so, from where? All help is much appreciated :)

• contentoffset during flick gesture

  Hi all, Does anyone else notice that the contentOffset of UIScrollView doesnt update during a flick gesture? It only updates after the flick gesture has totally completed, when the flick gesture is finished. After the finger has left the screen, the scrollview keeps moving, in the decelerating phase. but this isnt reflected in the contentOffset of the UIScrollView. Is there a way to track where the contentOffset is during the decelerating part of the flick gesture? I have an OpenGL layer on top, and i want it to move with the scrollView. Can't seem to get the right info out of the scrollview though... Thoughts? thanks, michael

• sem_open() error: "undefined reference to sem_open()" on linux (Ubuntu 10.10)

• Ruby Oauth File upload/Multipart POST request

  Hi I've been looking at this for a couple of hours now and haven't found a solution. Is there a way to upload a file using OAuth-Ruby? When I send a normal request, everything works but adding a file as a parameter makes the signature invalid. Example: @access_token.post("http://.../imageresource", {:name=>"awesome cat"}) works great but gives me: <error> <message>images/POST: Request has neither file data nor a fileUrl from which to download data</message> </error> Any thoughts on this?   Is there a 3rd party add-on/application or some way to perform object map dumping in script debugger for a JavaScript object? Here is the situation... I have a method being called twice, and during each time something is different. I'm not sure what is different, but something is. So, if I could dump all the properties of window (or at least window.document) into a text editor, I could compare the state between the two calls with a simple file diff. Thoughts?   I am trying to work out a way to use Dependency Injection with ASP.NET controls. I have got lots of controls that create repositories directly, and use those to access and bind to data etc. I am looking for a pattern where I can pass repositories to the controls externally (IoC), so my controls remain unaware of how repositories are constructed and where they come from etc. I would prefer not to have a dependency on the IoC container from my controls, therefore I just want to be able to construct the controls with constructor or property injection. (And just to complicate things, these controls are being constructed and placed on the page by a CMS at runtime!) Any thoughts?

• Attachment_fu error

  Hello, I am getting an error while trying to upload images on an Ubuntu machine that's running Rails 2.3.4, Ruby 1.8.6 using attachment_fu with image science. FreeImage exception for type ???: IPTC: Invalid key 'Tag 0x025C' The error seems to point to this line in the image_science_processor in the attachment_fu plugin: def with_image(file, &block) ::ImageScience.with_image file, &block end My initial thoughts are that it has something to do with meta tags and the images and maybe free image. I don't actually see this error on my dev machine - Mac Snow Leopard, Rails 2.3.5, Ruby 1.8.7. Before I start messing versions on the production boxes, has anyone else encountered this issue and have an idea to fix it? THANKS!!!!

  Hi, Say that i have an active directory group called "Group1". I add this Group1 to a SharePoint site ( People and Group New User). All the users that are part of Group1 can now access sharepoint site. Now,for a specific custom webpart, i need to target to only users who belong to Group1.   Hello, I have created an simple web server, leveraging .NET HttpListener class. I am using ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem() to spawn a thread to listen to incoming requests. Threaded method uses HttpListener.BeginGetContext(callback, listener), and in callback method I resume with HttpListener.EndGetContext() as well as raise an even to notify UI that listener received data. This is the question - how to raise that event? Initially I used ThreadPool: ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(state => ReceivedRequest(httpListenerContext, receivedRequestArgs)); But then started to doubt, maybe it should be a dedicated thread (as appose to waiting for a thread from pool): new Thread(() => ReceivedRequest(httpListenerContext, receivedRequestArgs)).Start(); Thoughts? 10X

  My current project uses NUnit for unit tests and to drive UATs written with Selenium. Developers normally run tests using ReSharper's test runner in VS.Net 2003 and our build box kicks them off via NAnt. We would like to run the UAT tests in parallel so that we can take advantage of Selenium Grid/RCs so that they will be able to run much faster. Does anyone have any thoughts on how this might be achieved? and/or best practices for testing Selenium tests against multiple browsers environments without writing duplicate tests automatically?   Hi All, If, as here at work, we have test, staging and production environments, such as: http://test.my-happy-work.com http://staging.my-happy-work.com http://www.my-happy-work.com I am writing some javascript that will redirect the browser to a url such as: http://[environment].my-happy-work.com/my-happy-video I need to be able to determine the current environment that we are in. There is the possibility that I will currently be at a url such as: http://[environment].my-happy-work.com/my-happy-path/my-happy-resource I want to be able to grab the window.location but strip it of everything but: http://[environment].my-happy-work.com And then append to that string + "/" + "my-happy-video". I am not skilled with regex, but I suppose there would be a way to parse the window.location up to the ".com" Thoughts? Thanks!

• DDD: Client-side script to enforce invariants

  Hello, One thing that I'm confused about in regards to DDD is that our domain is supposed to handle all business logic and enforce invariants. I have noticed some people (me included) handle certain invariants in the presentation layer (i.e. WebForms, Views, etc) with javascript. This is mainly done to improve performance so the server is not hit for every request which may be invalid. Even though this approach may be beneficial performance-wise, it violates DDD principles. What if the business rules are changed? This way we don't have a rich domain where all the business rules are captured. In case of a change, we should change the domain as well as the presentation layer. Has anyone come across this situation before? I'd like to know your thoughts on this. Cheers, Mosh

• Ideal dev/test/QA environment for development

  I am working to rebuild my company's dev/test/QA environment. We have 10-15 programmers that are involved in a number of projects. They currently all develop locally on their PCs and use the dev environment for testing. We currently do not have a QA environment, so deployments are frequently a pain because bugs are usually found after something has gone live. Here's what I envision: Doing away with everyone's local admin privileges and making everyone develop on a dev server Create a QA environment that is identical to our production systems. This will allow them to test deployments. Create a new test environment that is more locked down than the dev server so that proper testing can be done. What are your thoughts? What is the best way to set up an environment like this? We develop ASP .NET applications using MS Visual Studio 2008 (if that helps).
