My main question is about the apache2 wsgi settings. Are those fine? Is 25 threads an /ok/ number with a quad core for one only django project? Is it still ok with several django projects on different virtual hosts? Should I specify 'process'? Any other directive which I should add? Is there anything really bad in the wsgi.py file? I've been reading about potential issues with the standard wsgi.py file, should I switch to that? Or.. should this conf just be running fine, and I should look for issues somewhere else? So, what do I mean by "unsatisfied": well, I often get quite high CPU WAIT; but what is worse, is that relatively often apache2 gets stuck. It just does not answer anymore, and has to be restarted. I have setup a monit to take care of that, but it ain't a real solution. I have been wondering if it's an issue with the database access (postgresql) under heavy load, but even if it was, why would the apache2 processes get stuck? Beside these two issues, performance is overall great. I even tried New Relic and got very good average results.

• How to avoid using duplicate savepoint names in nested transactions in nested stored procs?

  I have a pattern that I almost always follow, where if I need to wrap up an operation in a transaction, I do this: BEGIN TRANSACTION SAVE TRANSACTION TX -- Stuff IF @error <> 0 ROLLBACK TRANSACTION TX COMMIT TRANSACTION That's served me well enough in the past, but after years of using this pattern (and copy-pasting the above code), I've suddenly discovered a flaw which comes as a complete shock. Quite often, I'll have a stored procedure calling other stored procedures, all of which use this same pattern. What I've discovered (to my cost) is that because I'm using the same savepoint name everywhere, I can get into a situation where my outer transaction is partially committed - precisely the opposite of the atomicity that I'm trying to achieve. I've put together an example that exhibits the problem. This is a single batch (no nested stored procs), and so it looks a little odd in that you probably wouldn't use the same savepoint name twice in the same batch, but my real-world scenario would be too confusing to post. CREATE TABLE Test (test INTEGER NOT NULL) BEGIN TRAN SAVE TRAN TX BEGIN TRAN SAVE TRAN TX INSERT INTO Test(test) VALUES (1) COMMIT TRAN TX BEGIN TRAN SAVE TRAN TX INSERT INTO Test(test) VALUES (2) COMMIT TRAN TX DELETE FROM Test ROLLBACK TRAN TX COMMIT TRAN TX SELECT * FROM Test DROP TABLE Test When I execute this, it lists one record, with value "1". In other words, even though I rolled back my outer transaction, a record was added to the table. What's happening is that the ROLLBACK TRANSACTION TX at the outer level is rolling back as far as the last SAVE TRANSACTION TX at the inner level. Now that I write this all out, I can see the logic behind it: the server is looking back through the log file, treating it as a linear stream of transactions; it doesn't understand the nesting/hierarchy implied by either the nesting of the transactions (or, in my real-world scenario, by the calls to other stored procedures). So, clearly, I need to start using unique savepoint names instead of blindly using "TX" everywhere. But - and this is where I finally get to the point - is there a way to do this in a copy-pastable way so that I can still use the same code everywhere? Can I auto-generate the savepoint name on the fly somehow? Is there a convention or best-practice for doing this sort of thing? It's not exactly hard to come up with a unique name every time you start a transaction (could base it off the SP name, or somesuch), but I do worry that eventually there would be a conflict - and you wouldn't know about it because rather than causing an error it just silently destroys your data... :-(

  I have a page that requires a scrollbar - http://www.aus-media.com/dev/site_BYJ/schedule-pricing/pricing.html You will notice (unless you are running at a high resolution with a big screen) that there is an outer scrollbar for the main page as well as an inner scrollbar for the content. When you click on one of the sub items e.g. payments you will notice that the outer page scrolls down as well as the inner scrollbar. • Sticky Footer Dilemma - so close

  I have an effective sticky footer solution, but I have a slight conflict because of the need for a background image in addition to the repeating banner image across the top. In order to make the large watermark type image show up on this site I added the following div: <div id="body-outer"> The only problem is that once I add this div tag, the footer climbs up the page, overriding all content in its path. If I remove that div, the footer is as sticky as one could hope. Is there some way to have the background image and the sticky footer too? • Nested flowlayout panel not wrapping

  I've got a FlowLayoutPanel with properties: Dock = Fill (in a usercontrol) FlowDirection = TopDown WrapContents = false I do it this way so that each item added to the panel gets added to the bottom. The items that I add to this panel are usercontrols which themselves have FlowLayoutPanels on them, however they have the standard behaviour (LeftToRight, WrapContents = true). The problem that I'm having is that the interior usercontrol's FlowLayoutPanel isn't resizing to fill the outer control, but when I set autosizing to true on these controls, then the panel won't wrap its contents - which is a known problem apparently.   I have a table with something like the following: ID Name Color 1 Bob Blue 2 John Yellow 1 Bob Green 3 Sara Red 3 Sara Green What I would like to do is return a filtered list of results whereby the following data is returned: ID Name Color 1 Bob Blue 2 John Yellow 3 Sara Red i.e. I would like to return 1 row per user. (I do not mind which row is returned for the particular user - I just need that the [ID] is unique.) Why the first alert (inner..) outputs a valid entriesResult.length while the second one (outer..) always outputs a 0? I tought javascript arrays are always passed by reference, what's wrong whit my code? Thank you :)

I don't want to cheat by drawing a grey circle in the middle because the dialog is slightly transparent. (This transparency isn't as subtle on on other backgrounds.)

• Dynamically loading CSS and JavaScript using Prototype

  I have a classic ASP application that I've been constantly trying to modularize. Currently, almost all pages are divided in to two pages: an outer page that contains the layout, header, sidebar, footer an inner page that contains ASP code The outer pages use dreamweaver templates so updating layout and replicating changes is easy. The inner pages are managed by me. Now here is the problem: I had to add a lightbox to one page, I chose Lightbox 2 which requires Prototype. I ended up adding Prototype on every page, assuming that sooner or later I'll upgrade all pages, forms, ajax requests and other javascript to use Prototype. I've now added two other plugins -- Modalbox and Protofade; each with a pair of .JS and .CSS files. Since I'll be using these three plugins on specific set of pages I am wondering if I can load the required CSS and JS files dynamically. I do not want to access the document head and add include files there, I'll have to do this from inside a DIV where all ASP code is supposed to go.

  I am doing a query that converts rows to columns similar to this post but have encountered a performance problem. Here is the query:- SELECT Info.Customer, Answers.Answer, Answers.AnswerDescription, Details.Code1, Details.Code2, Details.Code3 FROM Info LEFT OUTER JOIN Answers ON Info.AnswerID = Answers.AnswerID LEFT OUTER JOIN (SELECT ReferenceNo, MAX(CASE DetailsIndicator WHEN 'cde1' THEN DetailsCode ELSE NULL END ) Code1, MAX(CASE DetailsIndicator WHEN 'cde2' THEN DetailsCode ELSE NULL END ) Code2, MAX(CASE DetailsIndicator WHEN 'cde3' THEN DetailsCode ELSE NULL END ) Code3 FROM DetailsData GROUP BY ReferenceNo) Details ON Info.ReferenceNo = Details.ReferenceNo There are less than 300 rows returned, but the Details table is about 180 thousand rows. The query takes 45 seconds to run and needs to take only a few seconds. When I type show processlist; into MYSQL it is hanging on "Sending Data". Any thoughts as to what the performance problem might be?

• Phonegap - iOS keyboard is not hiding on outside tap of input field

  On input text focus, keyboard appears as expected. But when I click outside of the input text, keyboard does not hide. I am using java script and jQuery. With jQueryMobile JS and CSS - page behaves correctly. But for this project we are not using jQueryMobile. This problem is only with iOS simulator/device. With Android, it's working perfectly fine. I even tried using document.activeElement.blur(); on outer element click/tap. But then I am unable to focus to input text, because that input text is inside that outer element.

Just curious to know whether is it a good programming practice if I do something like the code below. class Outer { public: class Inner { public: Inner() {} } Outer() {} }; I have been doing this for structure where I only want my structure to be expose to my class instead of global. But the case is different here, I am using a class now? Have you guys facing such a situation before? Very much appreciated on any advice from you ;)
