  • What is the difference between moveBackward: and moveLeft: when using NSResponder -interpretKeyEvent

    I'm implementing a custom text box using -interpretKeyEvents: and am trying to figure out what the difference is between moveBackward: vs moveLeft: and moveForward: vs moveRight:. moveLeft: is bound to the left arrow and moveBackward: is bound to Ctrl + B. The documentation describes them almost identically and they seem to behave identically in practice. I'm assuming this is just a holdover from Vim? Does anyone know what the real difference is? Should moveBackward: just call my moveLeft: implementation? Thanks a lot, Nick

  • pro/con of having single/multiple action per file in symfony?

    been working with symfony for a while. most tutorials describe having multiple actions in a single php file. however, i find having 1 action per php file easier to maintain. what's the pro/con of both? is this purely a developer preference in code organisation? any performance impact on either approach? what's common practice for reasonably large production applications?

  • C#: Exception to throw when a certain type was expected

    I know this sort of code is not best practice, but nevertheless in certain situations I find it is a simpler solution: if (obj.Foo is Xxxx) { // Do something } else if (obj.Foo is Yyyy) { // Do something } else { throw new Exception("Type " + obj.Foo.GetType() + " is not handled."); } Anyone know if there is a built-in exception I can throw in this case?

  • Smarty html_options

    For smarty's html_options function, is there a way to avoid having to do this (other than not using smarty that is)? {if $smarty.post} {html_options name=option_1 optins=$options selected=$smarty.post.option_1} {else} {html_options name=option_1 optins=$options} {/if} I realize that it won't show up in the template, but it seems like a bad practice to leave something that is not defined in the template (it also fills up my error logs with noise about undefined indexes).

  • As-You-Type-Searching with Core Data / NSFetchedResultsController

    I implemented an as-you-type-searching (text search on single attribute) by fetching with performFetch: after each given character by the user. The performFetch: is running in a background thread to avoid keyboard freezes. But while typing many useless fetches are started. A NSOperationQueue might be an option, but I wonder if there are other approaches for this quite usual search behavior. What's best practice to notice when fetching is done and the table view is updated with the previous fetch to start a new fetch?

  • Changing IIS URL Rewrite config location

    Hi When used at site level, the IIS7 URL Rewrite 2 module saves its configuration in the web.config file of that site. I'm using Sitecore CMS, and best practice is to store any web.config customisations in a separate config file for ease of upgrading, staging/production setups etc. Is there any way to specify a different config file for IIS7 redirects? I know that application-level rewrites are stored in ApplicationHost.config, but I have several sites running on the server and would like to keep them separated. Thanks, Adam

I use staic library project added to app project as direct dependency (target - general - direct dependecies) and all works OK, but categories. A category defined in static library is not working in app. So my question is how to add static library with some categories into other project?     Hi I have built an application that listen to call state changes, and I want to notify a service when the call_state became IDLE. All the components I have are functional, I just need to notify (not start) a service for this. What's the correct practice, maybe using AIDL?     Hi, I'm new to using TFS build. I've got a build defined that runs as a continuous integration. It creates a drop folder, but there's nothing in it. What's the best practice for moving stuff in the drop folder? I've seen a Binaries folder, do I need to copy things into their, or do I alter the TFSbuild.proj in some way to copy the files I want to the drop folder? Thanks.

  • What do I use if a CSS framework or grid is bad?

    Reference this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/203069/what-is-the-best-css-framework-and-are-they-worth-the-effort Do I go back to the "old" way of manually creating a template or downloading free ones again. For a little bit I thought a grid was the new thing and the best, now it appears I am wrong after all and not sure of best practice. And, yes, I can write my own CSS but didn't want to create the infrastructure if I didn't have to.
