• MVC actionlink posting List of complex type

  I have an actionlink that on click im passing a List of objects to a controller action. Example: View: Html.ActionLink("TestLink", "TestMethod", "Test", Model.SampleList, null) TestController: public ActionResult TestMethod(List sampleList) { return View(sampleList); } When I do this I get a null sampleList. I can pass a single complex object fine just not a collection of it. Do I need the correct routing for this? The reason I'm doing this is instead of passing an id and do a look up in the controller action, I just pass in the data.

• Unhandled exceptions in BackgroundWorker

  My WinForms app uses a number of BackgroundWorker objects to retrieve information from a database. I'm using BackgroundWorker because it allows the UI to remain unblocked during long-running database queries and it simplifies the threading model for me. I'm getting occasional DatabaseExceptions in some of these background threads, and I have witnessed at least one of these exceptions in a worker thread while debugging. I'm fairly confident these exceptions are timeouts which I suppose its reasonable to expect from time to time. My question is about what happens when an unhandled exception occurs in one of these background worker threads. I don't think I can catch an exception in another thread, but can I expect my WorkerCompleted method to be executed? Is there any property or method of the BackgroundWorker I can interrogate for exceptions?

• Storing a list of objects in GAE

  I need to store some data that looks a little like this: xyz 123 abc 456 hij 678 rer 838 Now I would just store it as a traditional string and integer model, and put in the datastore. But the data changes regularly, and is ONLY relevant when looked at as a COLLECTION. So it needs to be store as either a list of lists, or a list of objects, both of which can't really be done without pickling as far as I know. Can anyone help? Even storing it as a text file may work :S

• Modify action names for route collections in Symfony?

  When creating an sfPropelRouteCollection, how can I edit the action names that the collection will generate? For example: # Routing for "product" CRUD product: class: sfPropelRouteCollection options: model: Product module: product actions: [new, create, edit, update, delete] How can I change the actual action that is called for any of the new/create/edit/update/delete methods? I'd like for them to call "ajaxNew," "ajaxCreate," etc. so the URL would look something like "product/ajaxNew", or the action for "update" would be "ajaxUpdate". Let me know if I need to clarify further. Thanks.

• Not able to override CSS within IFrame

  I am using disqus comments for my jekyll blog with some CSS styles overriden in my stylesheet and used to work perfectly. Recently, disqus has introduced a new UI for their comments system which has completely broken the font colors. Since my site has dark background, I am trying to apply styles based on new disqus HTML structure generated. However, it seems that none of my styles get applied. It seems that is because disqus is loaded within iframe. Any ideas how can I fix the font colors. • What database works well with 200+GB of data?

  I've been using mysql (with innodb; on Amazon rds) because it's sort of universal default, but it's been ridiculously under-performing, and tweaking it only delays the inevitable. The data is mostly relatively short (<1kB of bytes each) blobs information about 100Ms of urls. There is (or should be, mysql cannot seem to handle it) very high amount of insert / update / retrieve but few complex queries - not that complex queries wouldn't be useful, but because mysql is so slow that it's far faster to get the data out, process it locally, and cache the results somewhere. I can keep tweaking mysql and throwing more hardware at it, but it seems increasingly futile. So what are the options? SQL/relational model/etc. optional - anything will do as long as it's fast, networked, and language-independent.

I am trying to design a tagging system with a model like this: Tag: content = CharField creator = ForeignKey used = IntergerField It is a many-to-many relationship between tags and what's been tagged. Everytime I insert a record into the assotication table, Tag.used is incremented by one, and decremented by one in case of deletion. Tag.used is maintained because I want to speed up answering the question 'How many times this tag is used?'. However, this seems to slow insertion down obviously. Please tell me how to improve this design. Thanks in advance.

• Entity Framework doesn't like 0..1 to * relationships.

  I have a database framework where I have two tables. The first table has a single column that is an identity and primary key. The second table contains two columns. One is a nvarchar primary key and the other is a nullable foreign key to the first table. On the default import of the database I get the following error: Condition cannot be specified for Column member 'ForeignKeyId' because it is marked with a 'Computed' or 'Identity' StoreGeneratedPattern. where ForeignKeyId is the second foreign key reference in the second table. Is this just something the entity model doesn't do? Or am I missing something?

• Slider Not Behaving As I Would Expect

  I have a slider that changes a float from 1 to 10 but I want to save this value and use it across all view controllers so I have saved that float as an NSNumber in a model class (settingsData.sensitivitySliderSettingValue). I am trying to output the updated slider value to the console every time that it is changed however it just gets set to 0 rather than 0 to 10. I don't understand why this is... • Avoid htaccess redirecting to one folder Yii

  I have a website running over Yii Framework, I created a folder in the root path named blog, I installed a wordpress blog under this folder, but the files .htaccess that comes with yii is trying to redirect my request to www.domain.com/blog to the controller/action type which I don't want, I want to treat the blog folder as a completely app with no relation to yii. here is what I've done so far Options +FollowSymLinks IndexIgnore */* RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} "/blog/" RewriteRule (.*) $1 [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . index.php as you can see I added the conditions to avoid redirecting for the blog folder but when I try to access the the url is telling me The page isn't redirecting properly.   Linq to SQL creates objects which are IQueryable and full of relations. Html Helpers require specific interface objects like IEnumerable<SelectListItem>. What I think could happen: Reuse the objects from Linq to SQL without all the baggage, i.e., return Pocos from the Linq to SQL objects without additional Domain Model classes? Extract objects that easily convert to (or are) Html helper objects like the SelectListItem enumeration? Is there any way to do this without breaking separation of concerns? Some neat oop trick to bridge the needs? For example, if this were within a repository, the SelectListItem wouldn't be there. The select new is a nice way to cut out an object from the Linq to SQL without the baggage but it's still referencing a class that shouldn't be referenced: IEnumerable<SelectListItem> result = (from record in db.table select new SelectListItem { Selected = record.selected, Text= record.Text, Value= record.Value } ).AsEnumerable();

  So i am doing a research on how can i infer knowledge from reports (not with a specific format), but after pre processing, i should have some kind of formatted data. A fairly basic inference would be: "Retailer has X stock." and "X is sellable." - "Retailer sells X" the knowledge i focus is retail domain oriented, and if possible i should improve its efficiency with each iteration. Is this scifi(some of my friends think it is)? The related stuff i find online are "expert systems" that find anomalies, fuzzy inference systems and some rants about "easy knowledge". • SVN Best practice for a "branch" of your main product ?

  At my job we develop websites - however now we're going to make a "whitelabelled" version of a site, which basically means it's the same site, however with a different logo and hosted on a different domain. Also it'll have minor graphical differences, but overall the engine is the same. My initial thought for keeping this in SVN, was to just make a branch for it - however I'm not quite certain if this could give me trouble later on. Normally I keep my branches somewhat short lived - mainly used for developing a new feature, without disturbing trunk. We need to be able to merge trunk changes into this "whitelabel" version, which I why I thought about branching it in the first place. So what's the best way to archive this ?

  All QuickStarts and RI examples in the CAG documentation are good but I lack the more Enterprise scale examples. Let's say we have 40+ modules, each containing a Proxy,Facade,PresentationModel,Model and Views. Each module also makes calls to a Module-specific WCF service which is to be hosted in IIS or in a stand-alone console host. Our approach have been to include the UI-module, service-module and related tests into one solution so they can be developed and tested separately from other modules. My problem is how the hosting of the services should be done when the services are in separate modules and how to actually run the separate module together with the rest of the application-modules when I press F5. Is there a best practise for this? I guess it has been done before?

  Using geopy to geocode alcohol outlets in NZ. The problem I have is that some places do not have street addresses but are places in Google Maps. For example, plugging: Furneaux Lodge, Endeavour Inlet, Queen Charlotte Sound, Marlborough 7250 into Google Maps via the browser GUI gives me However, using that in Geopy I get a GQueryError saying this geographic location does not exist.   I am using the Ajax.BeginForm to create a form the will do an ajax postback to a certain controller action and then if the action is successful, the user should get redirected to another page (if the action fails then a status message gets displayed using the AjaxOptions UpdateTargetId). using (Ajax.BeginForm("Delete", null, new { userId = Model.UserId }, new AjaxOptions { UpdateTargetId = "UserForm", LoadingElementId = "DeletingDiv" }, new { name = "DeleteForm", id = "DeleteForm" })) { [HTML DELETE BUTTON] } If the delete is successful I am returning a Redirect result: [Authorize] public ActionResult Delete(Int32 UserId) { UserRepository.DeleteUser(UserId); return Redirect(Url.Action("Index", "Home")); } But the Home Controller Index view is getting loaded into the UpdateTargetId and therefore I end up with a page within a page. Two things I am thinking about: Either I am architecting this wrong and should handle this type of action differently (not using ajax). Instead of returning a Redirect result, return a view which has javascript in it that does the redirect on the client side. Does anyone have comments on #1? Or if #2 is a good solution, what would the "redirect javascript view" look like?

Alternatively (in view) i could iterate while displaying the content, so i ends up only accessing the database 2 times instead of 3 times. Any win win solution / best practice to this kind of problem ?

Now we have got a new requirement that, whenever a particular rows get updated by our application, some business logic has to happen. I have been looking into Triggers in SQL server and it looks like we can do it using triggers. I am also looking at Entity Framework's OnPropertyChange capability. Is it possible to do it with "OnPropertyChange"? I mean, Can I create a model and implement "OnPropertyChange" method? And when our application modifies the rows using ADO.Net, then will it fire "OnPropertyChange" event so that my custome code in "OnPropertyChange" excutes? • Ways to call Blocks within Magento: createBlock vs Layout xml file

  Context: I'm trying to include Adminhtml blocks in the frontend of the site to replace some of the user account blocks. The first thing I'm trying to do is simply display the block on the correct page. I can replace the entire page by setting the Body of the response inside the controller, but I'm having a hard time including the block in the layout xml file and then calling it within the template. Why would I be able to create an adminhtml/sales_order_grid from Mage_Sales_OrderController using createBlock: $this->getResponse()->setBody($this->getLayout()->createBlock('adminhtml/sales_order_grid')->toHtml()); But not from a frontend layout, using a declaration <block type="adminhtml/sales_order_grid" name="orders_widget"/> within app/design/frontend/default/default/layout/sales.xml The latter produces an error without a stack trace: Fatal error: Call to a member function toHtml() on a non-object in app/code/core/Mage/Core/Model/Layout.php on line 526 Thanks for any guidance!
