• ASP.NET SQLMembership Provider not logging in

  My web app uses the sql memebership provider. Running it locally all is well, deploying to a dev server it works fine too in firefox, but in IE8 something unexpected is happening. Once a user logs in they're supposed to be redirected to home.aspx. What's happening when I attempt to login is it appears to accept the login credentials but then doesn't redirect to home.aspx. Instead it just redirects me to the login page as though I had attempted to access home.aspx directly without being logged in. The url parameter ReturnUrl is appended, Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fhome.aspx Why is this only happening with IE8? My local PC is IIS7 but the server is IIS6.   I've seen several examples where Marshal.ReleaseComObject() is used with Excel Interop objects (i.e., objects from namespace Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel), but I've seen it used to various degrees. • How do I add IIS Virtual Directories and arbitrary files in TFS Solution

  We have a web portal product from which we customize portals from customers. We use the precompiled web app and create a virtual directory (vd) where the customization resides. In addition to this we do some changes web.config in the web app folder. We would obviously like to keep these customizations under TFS source control. When I try to add the precompiled web app (which I don't want to add to source control), a warning tells me that the vds cannot be added. If I only add the folder that is referenced to by the vd, I lose the references to assemblies in the precompiled web app. My questions are: How do I structure a solution for adding IIS (sub application level) virtual directories and still retain the references to assemblies? Is it possible to add other directories/files from the web application level (like App_Theme, web.config etc.) to the solution? Since we already use Visual Source Safe, we have established a tree structure for each customization project: Project Root | |-Custom Sql | |-Custom Portal Files (which is added as a virtual directory) | |-Other Customizations I could probably do a lot of this manually through the source control explorer, but I'd like to have everything done through a solution. I've followed the instructions using this article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb668986.aspx, but this doesn't address the exact problem that I have. Oh, and we are currently using Visual Source Safe for portal customizaton, but are eager to make the move to TFS. TIA

However, when a user searches UNIX, the engine must choose: word or operating_system. Also, when a user searches windows (small letter 'w'), the engine chooses word, but should also show Assuming 'windows' is a word. Use as an <a href="etc..">operating system</a> instead. Can anyone point me in the right direction with parsing and choosing the topic of the search query? Thanks. Note: it doesn't need to be able to perform calculations as WA can do.

  I'm a developer working by myself. I'm looking for a computerized tool to manage my goals and activities. I own it Microsoft Project, but I don't like it. I've started many "projects" but could never keep on using it. Too complex and heavyweight for me. I use MS-Outlook tasks. They are not what I need. No planning capability. Tracking is not nice. I'm using the Pomodoro technique and I like it, but I'm looking for something more comprehensive and with better computerized support. Something that would allow me to define goals with dependencies and time estimation, keep daily prioritized lists etc. So, I'm looking for a solution. One I've found is GoalPro, but I don't like the fact I could not find a "top ten comparison". Are you using any goal setting package such as GoalPro? Which? Does it help? Pros and Cons?

  Hi, In my WPF application I'm hosting a custom Windows Form User Control together with other wpf controls. My custom user control is hosted in wpf using a WindowsFormsHost control. This custom user control contains (the parent so to speak) other custom win form controls (children controls). The children controls can be single or composite controls. How can I capture the leave event on a child control when the user navigates from the last child user control in the parent custom user control to a wpf user control? According to MSDN (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms751797.aspx) the leave event is not supported in following scenarios: Enter and Leave events are not raised when the following focus changes occur: 1. From inside to outside a WindowsFormsHost control. 2. From outside to inside a WindowsFormsHost control. 3. Outside a WindowsFormsHost control. 4. From a Windows Forms control hosted in a WindowsFormsHost control to an ElementHost control hosted inside the same WindowsFormsHost. Scenario 1 and 2 is exactly what I struggle with. The data in the old system is fairly easy to capture and the page hierarchy is simple so I'm not worried about that. However, I am completely flummoxed about how to even create a page in code. I'm using the Microsoft.SharePoint.Client namespace as I do not have sharepoint installed on my system and am wanting to code this up as a console application and so I'm using I'm using ClientContext. (On the other hand, I am willing to go into other solutions if necessary). My end-game: To get a page uploaded into some folder hierarchy which uses a master page, has the page title in a header web part, and a big ol' content-editable web part in the body so any user can come along and edit the content. Things I've tried so far: Using FileCollection.Add() to add an aspx file to the folder "Site Pages". This renders the html in the browser but doesn't enable any features for the user to edit the page Using ListItemCollection.Add() to add a page to the site, but I didn't know what fields I needed. Also I remember it came up with a runtime error saying I should use FileCollection.Add() Uploading to 'Site Pages' instead of 'Pages' So many others... ow my head :( The only plausible thing I can see on the net is to use the PublishingPage type along with PublishingWeb. However, PublishingWeb can only be constructed from an SPWeb object which requires me to be actually hosting the sharepoint application on my workstation. If anyone can lend a hand that would be greatly appreciated :)

• Help with error creating SharePoint list (probably due to privilege issues)

  I'm getting an error when trying to activate a webpart. It activates fine in one setup , but fails in a different one. Administrator in both. Seems like it fails because it's not able to create the list. The error is: Message: Value cannot be null.   I have huge problem: I have lots of .dbf files(~50000) and I need to import them into Oracle database. Everything's fine. BUT: There is about 1000 files, that I can't open. They raise exception "not a table". So I google, and install Borland Database Engine. Now everything wokrs fine....but no. Now, when I'm reading files, on 1024 file exception raises: "System resource exceeded". But I have lots of free resources. When I remove BDE, everything's fine again, no "system resource exceeded" error, but I cant read all files. Help please. PS: Tried using ODBC but nothing changes.

• Weird .net 4.0 exception when running unit tests

  Hi guys I am receiving the following exception when trying to run my unit tests using .net 4.0 under VS2010 with moq 3.1. Attempt by security transparent method 'SPPD.Backend.DataAccess.Test.Specs_for_Core.When_using_base.Can_create_mapper()' to access security critical method 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.UnitTesting.Assert.IsNotNull(System.Object)' failed. Assembly 'SPPD.Backend.DataAccess.Test, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' is marked with the AllowPartiallyTrustedCallersAttribute, and uses the level 2 security transparency model. Level 2 transparency causes all methods in AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers assemblies to become security transparent by default, which may be the cause of this exception. • Open PDF Content files in ASP.NET MVC 2

  I want to provide simple href links to my PDF forms that reside in my Forms folder. I have a created a simple Index.aspx and FormController Index action that simple iterates through the list of PDF files using my FormMetaData.xml file. The links get created just fine but when you click on the links I get a 404 exception. That looks like this: Server Error in '/' Application. The resource cannot be found. Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly. Requested URL: /Forms/ccindteamgolfform.pdf Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.4927; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.4927 This seems like this should open up a new browser window with the PDF in it but perhaps I am making a bad assumption. The PDF content files have Build Action of Content and Copy to Output set to Copy Always. Here is an example output html for the link from my Index.aspx page: <span class="form"> <a href="Forms/ccindteamgolfform.pdf" target="_blank"> <span class="description">Entry Form</span></span> I must be missing something because this does not work. Do I need to add a MapRoute for these documents? Or am I missing something else with the routing? This seems like it should not be that difficult.

• Fetching real time data from excel

  I am seriouly looking for your valuable help first time here. If possible, plese help me. I am developing a VB.NET app in which i read "real time data" from a excel sheet using "Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel" i.e. excel automation. All cells in excel sheet are fetching stock data from some LOCAL DDE Server like "=XYZ|Bid!GOLD", "=XYZ|Bid!SILVER", "=XYZ|Ask!SILVER" and so on... Some cells also having fixed values like "Symbol", "Bid Rate", "32.90" etc. Values of DDE mapped cells (i.e. =XYZ|xxxx!yyy) are continuously changing. THE PROBLEM is here..."FIXED values" from excel cells are coming quite ok to my app but all DDE mapped cells values are coming "-2146826246" (When datasource local dde server ON) or "-2146826265" (OFF). Although, if i use C#.NET, it's all ok but not with Vb.NET. I want to display range of excel (A1 to J50) into VB.NET ListView which are changing in every 200ms (5 times in every 1 second) ================ Important ====================================================== Is it possible to BIND "listview items/columns values" with "excel cells" or some local memory variables ?? Currently, i am reading excel "cell by cell" and trying to put values in .NET listview but CPU USES are very high as well as it's toooo slow process. If yes, then how please ? I am a VFP developer but new to .NET It's very easy in VFP then why not in .NET ?? Please guide me, if someone has the solution...

It tells me that "test1.tx" does not exist even though the file exists and its size is 498 bytes. If I try with Ftp.ListDirectory it tells me that the file does not exist. If I try with Ftp.GetFileSize it does not provide any results and the debugger's immediate gives me the following message: A first chance exception of type 'System.Net.WebException' occurred in System.dll. Using "request.UseBinary = true" does not make any difference. • ASP.NET MVC UpdateModel doesn't update inherited public properties??

  I refactored some common properties into a base class and immediately my model updates started failing. UpdateModel() and TryUpdateModel() do not seem to update inherited public properties. I cannot find detailed info on MSDN nor Google as to the rules or semantics of these methods. The docs are terse (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd470933.aspx), simply stating: Updates the specified model instance using values from the controller's current value provider. Well that leads us to believe it is as simple as that. It makes no mention of limitations with inheritance. My assumption is the methods are reflecting on the top class only, ignoring base properties, but this seems to be an ugly shortcoming, if so. SOLVED: Eep, this turned out to have nothing to do with inheritance. My base class was implemented with public fields, not properties. Switching them to formal properties (adding {get; set; }) was all I needed. This has bitten me before, I keep wanting to use simple, public fields.

• ASP.NET Membership C# - How to compare existing password/hash

  I have been on this problem for a while. I need to compare a paasword that the user enters to a password that is in the membership DB. The password is hashed and has a salt. Because of the lack of documentation I do not know if the salt is append to the password and then hashed how how it is created. I am unable to get this to match. The hash returned from the function never matches the hash in the DB and I know for fact it is the same password. Microsoft seems to hash the password in a different way then I am. I hope someone has some insights please. • Minimum privileges to read SQL Jobs using SQL SMO

  I wrote an application to use SQL SMO to find all SQL Servers, databases, jobs and job outcomes. This application is executed through a scheduled task using a local service account. This service account is local to the application server only and is not present in any SQL Server to be inspected. I am having problems getting information on job and job outcomes when connecting to the servers using a user with dbReader rights on system tables. If we set the user to be sysadmin on the server it all works fine. My question to you is: What are the minimum privileges a local SQL Server user needs to have in order to connect to the server and inspect jobs/job outcomes using the SQL SMO API? I connect to each SQL Server by doing the following: var conn = new ServerConnection { LoginSecure = false, ApplicationName = "SQL Inspector", ServerInstance = serverInstanceName, ConnectAsUser = false, Login = user, Password = password }; var smoServer = new Server (conn); I read the jobs by reading smoServer.JobServer.Jobs and read the JobSteps property on each of these jobs. The variable server is of type Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Server. user/password are of the user found in each SQL Server to be inspected. If "user" is SysAdmin on the SQL Server to be inspected all works ok, as well as if we set ConnectAsUser to true and execute the scheduled task using my own credentials, which grants me SysAdmin privileges on SQL Server per my Active Directory membership. • Using Client Application Services in windows forms not working

  i am trying to implement asp.net membership, profile and role based security in a windows application by configuring client Application Services for my windows forms application. I have followed both these articles http://www.dotnetbips.com/articles/e863aa3c-0dd6-468d-bd35-120a334c5030.aspx and http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb546195.aspx step-by-step but for some reason i can't get the authentication working. I have a deployed intranet asp.net website which is already using an asp.net membership database for authentication and want to use that same database for authenitcation in my windows forms application. The site URL is http://myServer_Name:My_Port and i am specifying that URL as the both the Authentication service location and Roles service location in the windows application services property tab. But in the windows application login form, when i say Dim msg As String = "Welcome " If Not Membership.ValidateUser(UsernameTextBox.Text), PasswordTextBox.Text)) Then MessageBox.Show("Invalid User ID or Password!") Else msg = msg + UsernameTextBox.Text End If i get my "Invalid User ID or Password!" message even when i supply a valid user name with the corresponding password. i am able to login with the same credentials from the asp.net site. How can i test if the Authentication service location is being reached from the windows application?? Or what other information can i provide here such that one is able to help me get this working??
