  • C++0x: How can I access variadic tuple members by index at runtime?

    - by nonoitall
    I have written the following basic Tuple template: template <typename... T> class Tuple; template <uintptr_t N, typename... T> struct TupleIndexer; template <typename Head, typename... Tail> class Tuple<Head, Tail...> : public Tuple<Tail...> { private: Head element; public: template <uintptr_t N> typename TupleIndexer<N, Head, Tail...>::Type& Get() { return TupleIndexer<N, Head, Tail...>::Get(*this); } uintptr_t GetCount() const { return sizeof...(Tail) + 1; } private: friend struct TupleIndexer<0, Head, Tail...>; }; template <> class Tuple<> { public: uintptr_t GetCount() const { return 0; } }; template <typename Head, typename... Tail> struct TupleIndexer<0, Head, Tail...> { typedef Head& Type; static Type Get(Tuple<Head, Tail...>& tuple) { return tuple.element; } }; template <uintptr_t N, typename Head, typename... Tail> struct TupleIndexer<N, Head, Tail...> { typedef typename TupleIndexer<N - 1, Tail...>::Type Type; static Type Get(Tuple<Head, Tail...>& tuple) { return TupleIndexer<N - 1, Tail...>::Get(*(Tuple<Tail...>*) &tuple); } }; It works just fine, and I can access elements in array-like fashion by using tuple.Get<Index() - but I can only do that if I know the index at compile-time. However, I need to access elements in the tuple by index at runtime, and I won't know at compile-time which index needs to be accessed. Example: int chosenIndex = getUserInput(); cout << "The option you chose was: " << tuple.Get(chosenIndex) << endl; What's the best way to do this?

  • Lua: Why changing value on one variable changes value on an other one too?

    - by user474563
    I think that running this code you will get excactly what I mean. I want to register 5 names to a register(people). I loop 5 times and in each loop I have a variable newPerson which is supposed to save all information about a person and then be added to the people register. In this example only the names of the people are being registered for simplicity. The problem is that in the end all people turn to have the same name: "Petra". I playied a bit with this but can't get a reasonable reason for this behaviour. Help appreciated! local people={} local person={ name="Johan", lastName="Seferidis", class="B" } local names={"Markus", "Eva", "Nikol", "Adam", "Petra"} --people to register for i=1, 5 do --register 5 people local newPerson=person local name=names[i] for field=1, 3 do --for each field(name, lastname, class) if field==1 then newPerson["name"]=name end --register name end people[i]=newPerson end print("First person name: " ..people[1]["name"]) print("Second person name: "..people[2]["name"]) print("Third person name: " ..people[3]["name"])

  • Trouble using SFML with GCC and OS X

    - by user1322654
    I've been trying to get SFML working for a while now and I've been trying to get it working using GCC. I'm on OS X by the way. I followed the standard Linux instructions and using the Linux 64-bit download however when it comes to compiling... g++ -o testing main.cpp -lsfml-system This happens: main.cpp: In function ‘int main()’: main.cpp:7: error: ‘class sf::Clock’ has no member named ‘GetElapsedTime’ main.cpp:9: error: ‘class sf::Clock’ has no member named ‘GetElapsedTime’ main.cpp:10: error: ‘Sleep’ is not a member of ‘sf’ So I thought it could be due to not using includes, so I changed my gcc compile command to: g++ -o testing main.cpp -I ~/SFML-1.6/include/ -lsfml-system and now I'm getting this error: ld: warning: ignoring file /usr/local/lib/libsfml-system.so, file was built for unsupported file format which is not the architecture being linked (x86_64) Undefined symbols for architecture x86_64: "sf::Clock::Clock()", referenced from: _main in ccZEiB7b.o "sf::Clock::GetElapsedTime() const", referenced from: _main in ccZEiB7b.o "sf::Sleep(float)", referenced from: _main in ccZEiB7b.o ld: symbol(s) not found for architecture x86_64 collect2: ld returned 1 exit status** And I have no idea what to do to fix it.

  • How to set text above and below a JButton icon?

    - by mre
    I want to set text above and below a JButton's icon. At the moment, in order to achieve this, I override the layout manager and use three JLabel instances (i.e. 2 for text and 1 for the icon). But this seems like a dirty solution. Is there a more direct way of doing this? Note -I'm not looking for a multi-line solution, I'm looking for a multi-label solution. Although this article refers to it as a multi-line solution, it actually seems to refer to a multi-label solution. EXAMPLE import java.awt.Component; import java.awt.FlowLayout; import javax.swing.BoxLayout; import javax.swing.Icon; import javax.swing.JButton; import javax.swing.JFrame; import javax.swing.JLabel; import javax.swing.SwingUtilities; import javax.swing.UIManager; public final class JButtonDemo { public static void main(String[] args) { SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable(){ @Override public void run() { createAndShowGUI(); } }); } private static void createAndShowGUI(){ final JFrame frame = new JFrame(); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.setLayout(new FlowLayout()); frame.add(new JMultiLabelButton()); frame.pack(); frame.setLocationRelativeTo(null); frame.setVisible(true); } private static final class JMultiLabelButton extends JButton { private static final long serialVersionUID = 7650993517602360268L; public JMultiLabelButton() { super(); setLayout(new BoxLayout(this, BoxLayout.Y_AXIS)); add(new JCenterLabel("Top Label")); add(new JCenterLabel(UIManager.getIcon("OptionPane.informationIcon"))); add(new JCenterLabel("Bottom Label")); } } private static final class JCenterLabel extends JLabel { private static final long serialVersionUID = 5502066664726732298L; public JCenterLabel(final String s) { super(s); setAlignmentX(Component.CENTER_ALIGNMENT); } public JCenterLabel(final Icon i) { super(i); setAlignmentX(Component.CENTER_ALIGNMENT); } } }

  • Cannot figure out how to take in generic parameters for an Enterprise Framework library sql statemen

    - by KallDrexx
    I have written a specialized class to wrap up the enterprise library database functionality for easier usage. The reasoning for using the Enterprise Library is because my applications commonly connect to both oracle and sql server database systems. My wrapper handles both creating connection strings on the fly, connecting, and executing queries allowing my main code to only have to write a few lines of code to do database stuff and deal with error handling. As an example my ExecuteNonQuery method has the following declaration: /// <summary> /// Executes a query that returns no results (e.g. insert or update statements) /// </summary> /// <param name="sqlQuery"></param> /// <param name="parameters">Hashtable containing all the parameters for the query</param> /// <returns>The total number of records modified, -1 if an error occurred </returns> public int ExecuteNonQuery(string sqlQuery, Hashtable parameters) { // Make sure we are connected to the database if (!IsConnected) { ErrorHandler("Attempted to run a query without being connected to a database.", ErrorSeverity.Critical); return -1; } // Form the command DbCommand dbCommand = _database.GetSqlStringCommand(sqlQuery); // Add all the paramters foreach (string key in parameters.Keys) { if (parameters[key] == null) _database.AddInParameter(dbCommand, key, DbType.Object, null); else _database.AddInParameter(dbCommand, key, DbType.Object, parameters[key].ToString()); } return _database.ExecuteNonQuery(dbCommand); } _database is defined as private Database _database;. Hashtable parameters are created via code similar to p.Add("@param", value);. the issue I am having is that it seems that with enterprise library database framework you must declare the dbType of each parameter. This isn't an issue when you are calling the database code directly when forming the paramters but doesn't work for creating a generic abstraction class such as I have. In order to try and get around that I thought I could just use DbType.Object and figure the DB will figure it out based on the columns the sql is working with. Unfortunately, this is not the case as I get the following error: Implicit conversion from data type sql_variant to varchar is not allowed. Use the CONVERT function to run this query Is there any way to use generic parameters in a wrapper class or am I just going to have to move all my DB code into my main classes?

  • The best way to assign an immutable instance to a Collection in Java

    - by Ali
    Today I was reading through some Hibernate code and I encounter something interesting. There is a class called CollectionHelper that defines the following constant varibale: public final class CollectionHelper { public static final List EMPTY_LIST = Collections.unmodifiableList( new ArrayList(0 ) ; public static final Collection EMPTY_COLLECTION = Collections.unmodifiableCollection(new ArrayList(0) ); public static final Map EMPTY_MAP = Collections.unmodifiableMap( new HashMap(0) ); They have used these constants to initialize collections with immutable instances. Why they didn't simply use the Collections.EMPTY_LIST for initializing lists? Is there a benefit in using the following method?

  • C# two classes with static members referring to each other

    - by Jerry
    Hi, I wonder why this code doesn't end up in endless recursion. I guess it's connected to the automatic initialization of static members to default values, but can someone tell me "step by step" how does 'a' get the value of 2 and 'b' of 1? public class A { public static int a = B.b + 1; } public class B { public static int b = A.a + 1; } static void Main(string[] args) { Console.WriteLine("A.a={0}, B.b={1}", A.a, B.b); //A.a=2, B.b=1 Console.Read(); }

  • Custom login in Django

    - by alpgs
    Django newbie here. I wrote simplified login form which takes email and password. It works great if both email and password are supplied, but if either is missing i get KeyError exception. According to django documentation this should never happen: By default, each Field class assumes the value is required, so if you pass an empty value -- either None or the empty string ("") -- then clean() will raise a ValidationError exception I tried to write my own validators for fields (clean_email and clean_password), but it doesn't work (ie I get KeyError exception). What am I doing wrong? class LoginForm(forms.Form): email = forms.EmailField(label=_(u'Your email')) password = forms.CharField(widget=forms.PasswordInput, label=_(u'Password')) def clean_email(self): data = self.cleaned_data['email'] if not data: raise forms.ValidationError(_("Please enter email")) return data def clean_password(self): data = self.cleaned_data['password'] if not data: raise forms.ValidationError(_("Please enter your password")) return data def clean(self): try: username = User.objects.get(email__iexact=self.cleaned_data['email']).username except User.DoesNotExist: raise forms.ValidationError(_("No such email registered")) password = self.cleaned_data['password'] self.user = auth.authenticate(username=username, password=password) if self.user is None or not self.user.is_active: raise forms.ValidationError(_("Email or password is incorrect")) return self.cleaned_data

  • Java: implementation of simple commands

    - by HH
    I have created a pkg for my regular simple commands. They are non-static, to be more extensible, but somewhat more time-consuming to use because of creating object to use one. My other classes use them. $ ls *.java CpF.java IsBinary.java RmLn.java Tools.java F2S.java IsRoot.java SaveToDisk.java WordCount.java Filters.java ModRelativePaths.java SetWord.java WordNumber.java Find.java powerTools.java Sort.java Which option would you choose to use them easier? to develop a small interface like 'powerTools.java' for the pkg. to create a class with static methods for them. to add a static method to each class to stop overusing 'creating too many files' and centralising some? sthing else?

  • Multiple classes in a Python module

    - by ralphL
    I'm very new to Python (I'm coming from a JAVA background) and I'm wondering if anyone could help me with some of the Python standards. Is it a normal or "proper" practice to put multiple class in a module? I have been working with Django and started with the tutorials and they place their database model classes in the same module. Is this something that is normally done or should I stick with 1 class per module? Is their a reason I would do one over the other? Hope I'm being clear and not to generic. Thanks to everyone in advance!

  • adding hobby to a user

    - by rookieRailer
    I'm trying to write a rails application. I'm a ruby-on-rails newbie. I have a User model and a Hobby model. class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :hobbies end class Hobby < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user end During the new user registration, I have used a text box where I enter a value for hobby. Then, when I press a button 'Add hobby', a method in UsersController add_hobby is to be called where I intend to append the value entered for hobby by user to the user i.e @user.hobbies << hobby However, my problem is that the user object has not been saved yet, so there is no way to access a particular user object. How do I get around this problem ?

  • Mapping an Array to a Single Row

    - by João Bragança
    I have the following classes: public class InventoryItem { private Usage[] usages = new Usage[12]; virtual public Usage[] Usages { get { return usages; }} virtual public string Name{get;set;} } public class Usage { virtual public double Quantity{get;set;} virtual public string SomethingElse{get;set;} } I know that Usages.Length will always be 12. I think it would be best to store it in the DB like so: Name nvarchar(64), Usage_Quantity_0 float, Usage_SomethingElse_0 nvarchar(16), Usage_Quantity_1 float, Usage_SomethingElse_1 nvarchar(16), ... Usage_Quantity_11 float, Usage_SomethingElse_11 nvarchar(16), How can I get this done?

  • proper Django ORM syntax to make this code work in MySQL

    - by gtujan
    I have the following django code working on an sqlite database but for some unknown reason I get a syntax error if I change the backend to MySQL...does django's ORM treat filtering differently in MySQL? def wsjson(request,imei): wstations = WS.objects.annotate(latest_wslog_date=Max('wslog__date'),latest_wslog_time=Max('wslog__time')) logs = WSLog.objects.filter(date__in=[b.latest_wslog_date for b in wstations],time__in=[b.latest_wslog_time for b in wstations],imei__exact=imei) data = serializers.serialize('json',logs) return HttpResponse(data,'application/javascript') The code basically gets the latest logs from WSlog corresponding to each record in WS and serializes it to json. Models are defined as: class WS(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=20) imei = models.CharField(max_length=15) description = models.TextField() def __unicode__(self): return self.name class WSLog(models.Model): imei = models.CharField(max_length=15) date = models.DateField() time = models.TimeField() data1 = models.DecimalField(max_digits=8,decimal_places=3) data2 = models.DecimalField(max_digits=8,decimal_places=3) WS = models.ForeignKey(WS) def __unicode__(self): return self.imei

  • Stuck with jQuery thumbnail gallery behavior

Here goes the code: $(function(){ $("ul.thumbnails li").click(function(e){ var imgAlt = $(this).find('img').attr("alt"); //Get Alt Tag of Image var imgTitle = $(this).find('a').attr("href"); //Get Main Image URL $("img.featured").attr({ src: imgTitle , alt: imgAlt}); //Switch the main image (URL + alt tag) }); <div class="image-gallery"> <img class="featured" src="big.jpg"> <ul class="thumbnails"> <li id="thumb01"> <a href="big.jpg"><img src="small.jpg"></a> </li> <li id="thumb02"> <a href="big.jpg"><img src="small.jpg"></a> </li> <li id="thumb03"> <a href="big.jpg"><img src="small.jpg"></a> </li> </ul> .thumbnails li { margin: 0; padding: 5px 5px 0 5px; list-style: none; float: left; overflow: hidden; } thumbnails li img { width: 50px; height: 50px; margin: 0; padding: 0; float: left; } If i click the thumbnail, the browser goes straight to the full image instead of just changing the img src with jQuery. But I if i click somewhere inside the <li> it works. I know this must be simple, but I don't know where I'm going wrong. I've tried studying other galleries, like http://www.sohtanaka.com/web-design/examples/image-rotator/ , but couldn't find what I'm missing. I could really use some help from you guys :)

  • When should I open and close a connection to SQL Server

    - by Martin
    I have a simple static class with a few methods in it. Each of those methods open a SqlConnection, query the database and close the connection. This way, I am sure that I always close the connection to the database, but on the other hand, I don't like to always open and close connection. Below is an example of what my methods look like. public static void AddSomething(string something) { using (SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection("...")) { connection.Open(); // ... connection.Close(); } } Considering that the methods are inside a static class, should I have a static member containing a single SqlConnection? How and when should I drop it? What are the best practices?

  • python iterators and thread-safety

    - by Igor
    I have a class which is being operated on by two functions. One function creates a list of widgets and writes it into the class: def updateWidgets(self): widgets = self.generateWidgetList() self.widgets = widgets the other function deals with the widgets in some way: def workOnWidgets(self): for widget in self.widgets: self.workOnWidget(widget) each of these functions runs in it's own thread. the question is, what happens if the updateWidgets() thread executes while the workOnWidgets() thread is running? I am assuming that the iterator created as part of the for...in loop will keep some kind of reference to the old self.widgets object? So I will finish iterating over the old list... but I'd love to know for sure.

  • linq-to-sql "an attempt has been made to attach or add an entity that is not new"?

    - by Curtis White
    I've been getting several errors: cannot add an entity with a key that is already in use An attempt has been made to attach or add an entity that is not new, perhaps having been loaded from another datacontext In case 1, this stems from trying to set the key for an entity versus the entity. In case 2, I'm not attaching an entity but I am doing this: MyParent.Child = EntityFromOtherDataContext; I've been using using the pattern of wrap everything with a using datacontext. In my case, I am using this in a web forms scenario, and obviously moving the datacontext object to a class wide member variables solves this. My questions are thus 2 fold: How can I get rid of these errors and not have to structure my program in an odd way or pass the datacontext around while keeping the local-wrap pattern? I assume I could make another hit to the database but that seems very inefficient. Would most people recommend that moving the datacontext to the class wide scope is desirable for web pages?
