• Looking for help with a design for a simple C# calendar app.

  As a personal project, I'm putting together a C# WPF calendar. I'm stuck on coding the calendar screen - specifically, the 5x7 grid of days. I've first tried to code it using elements like Panels, Labels, and Buttons. I've decided that was too cumbersome. I've then decided to use GDI to draw the calendar myself. I now have a wonderful layout - but I'm not sure how to handle interactive regions of the calendar. (Say, Previous/Next month, clicking on any particular day...) After rendering the calendar screen, should I be creating button objects for all those tasks, and assigning onClick handlers to them? Or is there an alternative solution? • Colspan in IE7/8 not respected

  The DOM looks like this: <table> <tr> <td>a</td>...<td>g</td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="3"> <table> ... </table> </td> </tr> <tr> <td></td>...<td></td> </tr> </table> Any idea why this wouldn't work in IE? I tried setting width:auto on the TD holding the inner table, and table-layout:fixed isn't viable because the tabular data is generated dynamically. What could be going wrong?

  I am using content_for and yeild to inject javascript files into the bottom of my layout but am wondering what the best practice is for including inline javascript. Specifically I'm wondering where the put the script type declaration: <% content_for :javascript do %> <script type="text/javascript"> ... </script> <% end %> or <% content_for :javascript do %> ... <% end %> <script type="text/javascript"> <%= yield :javascript %> </script> <% end %> I am using the first option now and wondering if it is bad to include multiple ... declarations within one view. Sometimes I have partials that lead to this.

• Delphi code example tab in MSDN

  If you have checked out the new MSDN layout recently you will notice that there are tabs for example code: Do you see that there is room for F# (is there really anyone using that?) but not for Delphi! My question is: can we all ask Microsoft to add a Delphi tab and as a community take care off adding samples. If you agree please request Microsoft to add the Delphi tab (the more people, the more likely Microsoft will respond).   Let's say I create a CMS that uses ExtJS. I want to avoid the license fee, so I open-source the CMS on github. Now let's imagine that I make your friend Dave a website that uses my CMS. I spend three hundred hours designing a logo and designing the layout. Can I charge a fee for this, and would I be obliged to open-source Dave's website too or is it enough to just open-source the CMS? I find this LPGL license a little confusing. Say hi to Dave for me.

• Multiple shapes on Android

I thought about a thread, but i missed out. • Can't Reorder a UITableViewCell into _some_ empty sections of a UITableView

  If I have a UITableView in edit mode, w/ reordering turned on, it seems I can't move some (but not all) cells into some (but not all) empty sections. For example, if I have this layout : Section 1 apple banana Section 2 doberman Section 3 Section 4 Then I can move 'doberman' into any slot in section 1 (except after 'banana'), but I can't move it into section 3 or 4 at all. On the other hand, I can move 'apple' & 'banana' into section section 2 (except after 'doberman'), and I CAN move it into section 3, but NOT into section 4. What gives? this seems like buggy behavior. How do people work around it? Is apple aware of this bug?

• Android Class which extends Dialog, how to clear TextViews before it is displayed

  I have a class that extends android.app.Dialog, the layout is done in an xml file, and the setup (button listeners, etc) is done on the onCreate method. My problem is that whenever the dialog is displayed, then dismissed, and displayed again, the Editable TextViews are still populated with the information that was displayed previously. What is the common way to clear these text fields? Remember - this is a separate class that extends Dialog - so there is no 'onDialogCreate' like Activity has. Or, perhaps I am extending the wrong class? There is just a lot of processing being done, and do not want to have all the code in the main Activity. I would like it to be in a separate Class. I tried to extend AlertDialog, but it does not create the border like Dialog does. Any help would be great. • GUI Design - Roleselection with two lists, selected roles on the right, or left list?

  Hi, image two lists for selecting roles for a new user creation in an administrator frontend. One list has all available roles in it and another has the selected roles in it. Between those lists are buttons to move elements from one list to another. Thus the layout is horizontal with [List] [Buttons] [List]. Now to the question: Should the selected elements be on the left, or the right list? Intuitively some people I asked say, that the selected elements have to be on the right list. But some other people follow some sort of guideline that says, that the more important stuff in a frontend has to be on the left side. Also they think the selected elements are more important than the non-selected and so the selected ones have to be on the left side. Whats your opinion?

• ExtJS TabPanel content does not shrink in IE6

  I'm using ExtJS 3.2 and have content inside of a tab panel, and the tab panel inside of a container in a Viewport. The actual TabPanel resizes correctly on the viewport size changes, but the content inside a panel in the TabPanel seems to be a fixed width and will not shrink when the window is resized.The strange thing is it grows if I increase the window size. How can I get the content inside a Tabpanel to shrink on window resizing. Sorry for this being confusing, my structure is this: Viewport (rendered to body, and sets defaults {monitorResize:true}) - Text Label - TabPanel - Tab - Container (Border Layout) - Panel 1 (Center) - Panel 2 (East) - Panel 3 (South) Thanks in advance!

• Internet Explorer generates extra br

  I have an issue where Internet Explorer is generating an additional br element that is not in my source. The additional br effects the page's layout and is visible when using the developer tool. I've tried removing all hard returns between the surrounding elements but the additional br persists. Firefox and Chrome do not have this issue. Ideas on what I can do to fix the issue? I have given the absolute path for each log file in param tag value. eg : appender name="FA" class="org.apache.log4j.DailyRollingFileAppender" param name="DatePattern" value="'_'yyyyMMdd"/ param name="File" value="D:/logFiles/GPreprocessor.log"/ layout class="com.dnb.genericpreprocessor.common.log.AppXMLLayout"/ /appender I do not want to give "GPreprocessor.log" directly.Actually that file name is dynamic based on my project. However the location will always remain same as "D:/logFiles/" . Please help me in this as this is very urgent and important for me.

• How to find good looking font color if background color is known?

  There seem to be so many color wheel, color picker, and color matcher web apps out there, where you give one color and the they'll find a couple of other colors that will create a harmonic layout when being used in combination. However most of them focus on background colors only and any text printed on each background color (if text is printed at all in the preview) is either black or white. My problem is different. I know the background color I want to use for a text area. What I need help with is choosing a couple of colors (the more, the merrier) I can use as font colors on this background. Most important is that the color will make sure the font is readable (contrast not being too low, also maybe not being too high to avoid that eyes are stressed) and of course that the combination of foreground and background just looks good. Anyone being aware of such an application? I'd prefer a web application to anything I have to download. Thanks.

  Hi everyone, I'm new to SQL Server reporting services, and am trying to decipher an existing report. It's nothing too bad, but I notice it does have two report datasets defined. (They are generated via separate stored procedures) I'm trying to figure out where and how the report datasets are linked together so the Fields collection has both sets of columns available and the report has a single rowset to traverse. Is there a section in the report layout where a joining of datasets is defined? I'm using Visual Studio 2005 to design and preview the report fwiw. Thanks for your help!

  In Clojure, if I want to start a test cluster using the hbase testing utility, I have to annotate my dependencies with: [org.apache.hbase/hbase "0.92.2" :classifier "tests" :scope "test"] First of all, I have no idea what this means. According to leiningens sample project.clj ;; Dependencies are listed as [group-id/name version]; in addition ;; to keywords supported by Pomegranate, you can use :native-prefix ;; to specify a prefix. This prefix is used to extract natives in ;; jars that don't adhere to the default "<os>/<arch>/" layout that ;; Leiningen expects. Question 1: What does that mean? Question 2: If I upgrade the version: [org.apache.hbase/hbase "0.94.6.1" :classifier "tests" :scope "test"] Then I receive a ClassNotFoundException Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.hadoop.hbase.HBaseConfiguration Whats going on here and how do I fix it?

• How do you handle very old browsers on your site?

  Hi. We have a non-profit web site that got about 5 million hits in May. Of those, about 5,700 were from IE 5.x or lower; about 4,000 were from folks with Netscape 4.x or lower. We know that the current site's layout works for newer browsers and we're testing it on IE6 as well (along with Chrome, Opera, Safari, and Firefox). How do you handle the folks with the older browsers? Because of jQuery libraries and such, the pages might not function correctly on those old browsers. Is there an easy way to show a text-only version on browsers that can't handle the CSS and jQuery goodies? How do large sites handle this sort of thing? I've used the @embed to hide the stylesheet from Netscape 4.x, but not sure beyond that.

  I'm struggling to find a query which will return members who aren't friends of a certain member. Here is the layout of my tables: member_login: MemberID, email, password member_info: memberID, first_name, last_name member_friends: friendID, req_member, req_date, app_member, app_date, date_deactivated I tried to use NOT IN to run a query that would return the opposite of friends but nothing I try seems to be working. • Drawing Directed Acyclic Graphs: Minimizing edge crossing?

  Laying out the verticies in a DAG in a tree form (i.e. verticies with no in-edges on top, verticies dependent only on those on the next level, etc.) is rather simple without graph drawing algorithms such as Efficient Sugimiya. However, is there a simple algorithm to do this that minimizes edge crossing? (For some graphs, it may be impossible to completely eliminate edge crossing.) A picture says a thousand words, so is there an algorithm that would suggest: instead of: EDIT: As the picture suggests, a vertex's inputs are always on top and outputs are always below, which is another barrier to just pasting in an existing layout algorithm.

• ListView OnItemClickListener Not Responding?

  I've looked everywhere for a solution to this, but I can't figure out how to implement it. My OnItemClickListener was disabled somehow on my ListView rows, because I have an ImageButton in the row layout, which takes over the focus. There have been numerous questions I've found, but none of them have gotten me anywhere. I've checked this question, but I couldn't really make heads or tails of it. I just need a way to get the rows clickable so that I can detect when a row is pressed. Long press and focus work fine.

  Hello everyone, As a part of an enterprise architecture exercise, i need to find a java-based framework filling these constraints : heavy (i think) load : 5000 concurrent connections widely known : can't be too exotic, the contractors would be too high priced. relatively easy to use : developpement time must be reasonnable must be as compliant as possible with the css/html layout produced by a designer Must look like "web 2.0" from the marketing point of view. What i learned from my limited experience is : jsf : 1, don't know. 2, 3 ok. 4 not ok (at least not without huge effort) wicket : 1, not really. 2, 3 and 4 ok. gwt : 1, don't know. 2, 3 ok. 4 not ok (but more ok than jsf) others : not really "web 2.0" or not really known I'm really junior, so my ideas about those frameworks are probably wrong, that's why i come to you, stackoverflowees.   Hello, Subversion 1.6 Ubuntu 10.4 I have a project with the following repository layout. proj/trunk proj/branches/new_feature1/ proj/branches/new_feature2/ proj/tags However, I would like to create a small test app, that isn't a new feature. Just just testing a small aspect of the project. I would like to create this test_app on a new branch. However, I don't want to have to copy from trunk to branch. I just want to create a new empty branch so that I can develop this test_app. Is there any way to do this? Many thanks for any suggestions,
