  • How to group strings by prefix

    I am writing a Winform UI in which the user must select a single customer. (For reasons beyond my control I am limited to a UI that uses dropdown lists, text fields, checkboxes, radiobuttons only -i.e. no fancy special UI controls) The situation There are a lot of customers (a thousand for example) If i put all the customers in a single dropdown there's no way it will be easy for a customer to even see all the customers. Also the it will take too long to retireve all the customers from the DB to populate the dropdown My thought is to have two combo box, the first lists groups of the customers by their last name something like a phone book "Aa-Ac", "Ad-Ade", "Adf-B", when selecting the first combo box, it scope the second one to a managable set customer names (no more than for example 40 names) The question I need a reasonable way of grouping their names such that it will be clear to customer which group contains the name. I.e. given a group of names I need to bucketize then int "Aa-Ac". Comments I don't need to solve the general problem of an immense number of names - we know based on our data that 1000 names is the max our users will encounter. If there are other techniques please do share, but I am interested specifically in an answer to my specific question around how to determine the buckets ("Aa-Ac", etc.)

  • SQL Server insert with XML parameter - empty string not converting to null for numeric

    I have a stored procedure that takes an XML parameter and inserts the "Entity" nodes as records into a table. This works fine unless one of the numeric fields has a value of empty string in the XML. Then it throws an "error converting data type nvarchar to numeric" error.   • Best way to change jqGrid rowNum from ALL to -1 before pass to a web service

    I'm looking to find the best way to allow users to choose to show ALL records in a jqGrid. I know that a -1 value passed for the rows parameter denotes ALL, but I want the word "ALL" not a -1 to appear in the rowList select element, ie. rowList: [15, 50, 100, 'ALL']. I'm passing the grid request to a web service which accepts an int for "rows", and I'm trying find how and when I should change the user selected value of "ALL" to a -1 before it gets sent to the web service. Below is my cleaned up grid code. I tried some various code blocks before my $.ajax in the datatype function. But most attempts just seemed like I have to be doing this the most convoluted way I possibly could.     Hi guys, I have another question. XMLhttpRequests haunt me. Everything is now in the database but I need this data to update my page on firt page load or reload. The XHR is triggered in JavaScript file which triggers PHP-Script. PHP-Script access MySQL database. But how do I get the fetched records back into my JavaScript for page update. I can not figure it out.     Hi, I' still newby to this so I'll try to explain what I'm doing. Basically what I want is to load a dropdownlist depending on the value of a previous one, and I want it to load the data and appear when the other one is changed.   • In JQGrid I want to add a row button that doesnt post back.

    The buttons I have added to the rows still post back even if I specifiy not to do so in the onclick method of the button (onclick=' return false;'). I supose its the grid doing the post back?   • JList - deselect when clicking an already selected item

    If a selected index on a JList is clicked, I want it to de-select. In other words, clicking on the indices actually toggles their selection. Didn't look like this was supported, so I tried list.addMouseListener(new MouseAdapter() { public void mousePressed(MouseEvent evt) { java.awt.Point point = evt.getPoint(); int index = list.locationToIndex(point); if (list.isSelectedIndex(index)) list.removeSelectionInterval(index, index); } }); The problem here is that this is being invoked after JList has already acted on the mouse event, so it deselects everything. So then I tried removing all of JList's MouseListeners, adding my own, and then adding all of the default listeners back. That didn't work, since JList would reselect the index after I had deselected it. Anyway, what I eventually came up with is MouseListener[] mls = list.getMouseListeners(); for (MouseListener ml : mls) list.removeMouseListener(ml); list.addMouseListener(new MouseAdapter() { public void mousePressed(MouseEvent evt) { java.awt.Point point = evt.getPoint(); final int index = list.locationToIndex(point); if (list.isSelectedIndex(index)) SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { list.removeSelectionInterval(index, index); } }); } }); for (MouseListener ml : mls) list.addMouseListener(ml); ... and that works.     I have a spring-hibernate application which is failing to map an object properly: basically I have 2 domain objects, a Post and a User. The semantics are that every Post has 1 corresponding User. The Post domain object looks roughly as follows: class Post { private int pId; private String attribute; ... private User user; //getters and setters here } As you can see, Post contains a reference to User. When I load a Post object, I want to corresponding User object to be loaded (lazily - only when its needed). My mapping looks as follows: <class name="com...Post" table="post"> <id name="pId" column="PostId" /> <property name="attribute" column="Attribute" type="java.lang.String" /> <one-to-one name="User" fetch="join" class="com...User"></one-to-one> </class> And of course I have a basic mapping for User set up. As far as my table schema is concerned, I have a table called post with a foreign UserId which links to the user table. I thought this setup should work, BUT when I load a page that forces the lazy loading of the User object, I notice the following Hiberate query being generated: Select ... from post this_ left outer join user user2_ on this.PostId=user2_.UserId ... Obviously this is wrong: it should be joining UserId from post with UserId from user, but instead its incorrectly joining PostId from post (its primary key) with UserId from user. Any ideas? Thanks!

And If I removed the mouse listener the problem then be solved. Is it because I doing something wrong at the mouse click listener?

  • What is your best-practice advice on implementing SQL stored procedures (in a C# winforms applicatio

    I have read these very good questions on SO about SQL stored procedures: When should you use stored procedures? and Are Stored Procedures more efficient, in general, than inline statements on modern RDBMS’s? I am a beginner on integrating .NET/SQL though I have used basic SQL functionality for more than a decade in other environments. It's time to advance with regards to organization and deployment. I am using .NET C# 3.5, Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server 2008; though this question can be regarded as language- and database- agnostic, meaning that it could easily apply to other environments that use stored procedures and a relational database. Given that I have an application with inline SQL queries, and I am interested in converting to stored procedures for organizational and performance purposes, what are your recommendations for doing so? Here are some additional questions in my mind related to this subject that may help shape the answers: Should I create the stored procedures in SQL using SQL Management Studio and simply re-create the database when it is installed for a client? Am I better off creating all of the stored procedures in my application, inside of a database initialization method? It seems logical to assume that creating stored procedures must follow the creation of tables in a new installation. My database initialization method creates new tables and inserts some default data. My plan is to create stored procedures following that step, but I am beginning to think there might be a better way to set up a database from scratch (such as in the installer of the program). Thoughts on this are appreciated. I have a variety of queries throughout the application. Some queries are incredibly simple (SELECT id FROM table) and others are extremely long and complex, performing several joins and accepting approximately 80 parameters. Should I replace all queries with stored procedures, or only those that might benefit from doing so? Finally, as this topic obviously requires some research and education, can you recommend an article, book, or tutorial that covers the nuances of using stored procedures instead of direct statements?

    I'm using active_delegate for multiple connection in Rails. Here I'm using mysql as master_database for some models,and postgresql for some other models.   • Left Join with a OneToOne field in Django

    I have 2 tables, simpleDB_all and simpleDB_some. The "all" table has an entry for every item I want, while the "some" table has entries only for some items that need additional information. The Django models for these are: class all(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=40) important_info = models.CharField(max_length=40) class some(models.Model): all_key = models.OneToOneField(all) extra_info = models.CharField(max_length=40) I'd like to create a view that shows every item in "all" with the extra info if it exists in "some". Since I'm using a 1-1 field I can do this with almost complete success: allitems = all.objects.all() for item in allitems: print item.name, item.important_info, item.some.extra_info but when I get to the item that doesn't have a corresponding entry in the "some" table I get a DoesNotExist exception. Ideally I'd be doing this loop inside a template, so it's impossible to wrap it around a "try" clause. Any thoughts? I can get the desired effect directly in SQL using a query like this: SELECT all.name, all.important_info, some.extra_info FROM all LEFT JOIN some ON all.id = some.all_key_id; But I'd rather not use raw SQL.

  • Problem with testing In App with sandbox test account

    Hi, I created a test user account through the Manage User Accounts in iTunes Connect. When you create such an account you have to select a valid storefront for your account. I chose US Store. Now I signed out from the store in App Store settings on my device. Ran the application and tried to perform a purchase. I successfully login with my test account. After I press Confirm when entering my credentials I get an alert, that comes from SKPaymentTransactionStateFailed from the observer. It says "Your account is only valid for purchases in the US iTunes Store". The error state = 0 unknown. Second time when i try to perform the purchase, StoreKit only asks me for a password like the previous login was successful. After entering a password I can perform a purchase. My question is whether it's only because it's a testing account and the application is not actually on AppStore? What should I do to avoid this message or at least to continue the purchasing process?   • Autodetect timezone in Rails given UTC offset and DST

    I basically want to autodetect a user's timezone using Rails. I can use this JS code at the user's browser (http://www.onlineaspect.com/2007/06/08/auto-detect-a-time-zone-with-javascript/) to send a form with the UTC offset and the fact that the time zone observes DST during summer or not, in the user's time zone. Once I have that info in the server, I want to select the matching time zone. In Rails, I can get a list of time zones with ActiveSupport::TimeZone.all. Also, I can filter zones by utf offset thanks to the utc_offset method. However, I don't know how to filter the timezones that do/don't observe DST. E.g. suppose a user lives in Amsterdam. Filtering by UTC offset will return Berlin, Belgrado, Madrid, etc timezones, as well as West Central Africa. All of them, but West Central Africa, would be appropriate timezones for a user in Amsterdam (as they provide the same time/date), but I need to filter West Central Africa, which does not perform DST in summer. How can I do this in Rails? Also, are any of my assumptions wrong?

I need to update a MSSQL table call component every 10 minutes based on information from another table call materials_progress I have nearly 60000 records in component and more than 10000 records in materials_progress I wrote an update query to do the job, but it takes longer than 4 minutes to complete execution!   • Weblogic 10.3, JDBC, Oracle, SQL - Table or View does not exist

    Hi, I've got a really odd issue that I've not had any success googling for. It started happening with no changes to the DB, connection settings, code etc. Problem is, when accessing a servlet, one of the EJB's is doing a direct SQL call, very simple "select \n" + " value, \n" + " other_value \n" + " from \n" + " some_table \n" + " where some_condition = ? " That's obviously not the direct SQL, but pretty close. For some reason, this started returning an error stating "ORA-00942: table or view does not exist". The table exists, and the kicker is if I hook in a debugger, change a space or something minor (not changing the query itself) in the query, and hot-deploy the change, it works fine. This isn't the first time I've run across this. It only seems to happen in dev environments (haven't seen it in q/a, sandbox, or production yet), is not always replicable, and driving me seriously insane. By not always replicable I mean that occasionally a clean build & redeploy will sometimes fix the problem, but not always. It's not always the same table (although if the error occurs it continues with the same query). Just throwing a feeler out there to see if anybody has run into issues like this before, and what they may have discovered to fix it.

  • Eclipse - How can I change a 'Project Facet' from Tomcat 6 to Tomcat 5.5?

    (Eclipse 3.4, Ganymede) I have an existing Dynamic Web Application project in Eclipse. When I created the project, I specified 'Default configuration for Apache Tomcat v6' under the 'Configuration' drop down. It's a month or 2 down the line, and I would now like to change the configuration to Tomcat 'v5.5'. (This will be the version of Tomcat on the production server.) I have tried the following steps (without success): I selected Targeted Runtimes under the Project Properties The Tomcat v5.5 option was disabled and The UI displayed this message: If the runtime you want to select is not displayed or is disabled you may need to uninstall one or more of the currently installed project facets. I then clicked on the Uninstall Facets... link. Under the Runtimes tab, only Tomcat 6 displayed. For Dynamic Web Module, I selected version 2.4 in place of 2.5. Under the Runtimes tab, Tomcat 5.5 now displayed. However, the UI now displayed this message: Cannot change version of project facet Dynamic Web Module to 2.4. The Finish button was disabled - so I reached a dead-end. I CAN successfully create a NEW Project with a Tomcat v5.5 configuration. For some reason, though, it will not let me downgrade' an existing Project. As a work-around, I created a new Project and copied the source files from the old Project. Nonetheless, the work-around was fairly painful and somewhat clumsy. Can anyone explain how I can 'downgrade' the Project configuration from 'Tomcat 6' to 'Tomcat 5'? Or perhaps shed some light on why this happened? Thanks Pete

    Using ASP MVC, I have set up a webpage for localhost/Dinner/100 to show the dinner details for dinner with ID = 100. On the page, there is a dropdown that shows Dinner 1, Dinner 2, etc. The user should select the dinner of interest (Dinner 2, ID = 102) off the form and press submit. The page should refresh and show the url: localhost/Dinner/102, and show the details of dinner 2. My code is working except for the url. During this, my url shows localhost/Dinner/100 even though it is correctly displaying the details of Dinner 2 (ID = 102). My controller method is pretty simple: public ActionResult Index(string id) { int Id = 0; if (!IsValidFacilityId(id) || !int.TryParse(id, out Id)) { return Redirect("/"); } return View(CreateViewModel(Id)); } can you help me figure out how to get this all working? p.s.   • Does HDC use alpha channel?

    Hello. Is there a way I can determine if an HDC uses alpha channel? I read Question 333559 and Question 685684, but their questions are about BITMAP. Apparently, some HDC has alpha channel (though they may not use it. Call this "Type 1") while others do not ("Type 2"). I know this by doing the following: Given a HDC, Create a compatible DC, and create a DIB section. Select the created HBITMAP into the compatible DC. BitBlt the source HDC to the compatible DC. Now examine the DIB section bits. For type 2 HDC, after every 3 bytes there is a byte always 0 (like 255 255 255 0); for type 1, these bytes are usualy 255 (like 250 240 230 255). To avoid false positive, I memset the bits to all 0x80 prior to the calls. Use GetDIBits directly on the source HDC, specify the HBITMAP as GetCurrentObject(hdc, OBJ_BITMAP). For both types of HDC, the 4th bytes are always 0. Change the DC bitmap by calling ExtTextOut. For type 2, ExtTextOut always set the 4th bytes to 0. For type 1, ExtTextOut always leave them untouched. I also noticed that the source HDC that are created by APIs (CreateCompatibleDC(), BeginPaint() ...) are always type 2. Type 1 HDC are from standard controls (like menu text). Even the HDC I CreateCompatibleDC from a type 1 becomes a type 2. So, on one hand, I'm frustrated that Microsoft does not provide equal information to developers (another example may be that you cannot know the direction of a HBITMAP after it is created), on the other hand, I'm still wondering is there a way to distinguish these HDC.
