• Certain transformations in Open Inventor(Coin3D)

  Hi, I am quite new to Open Inventor(Coin3D) and have the following problem: I have a SoSelection holding a root node(also SoSeparator). And the root node holds a number of SoSeparator nodes. Each of these SoSeparator nodes holds a SoTransform node and a SoCube node. When I select one cube node I want all other cubes within a certain distance to the selected cube to arrange in a circle arround the selected cube. (Moreover all of the cubes should be on a plane than) An additional information: My cubes are always oriented in the camera direction with (cubeTransform_-rotation.connectFrom(&camera_-orientation) Assuming the selected cube is the center of the circle, how do I translate the other cubes in a circle on a plane(perpendicular to the vector between the selected cube and the camera)? Especially how do I find coordinates on the plain on which the circle should be which have a certain distance from the Axis (from center cube to camera). What I already did is to search for the for all cubes within a certain distance as soon as one cube is selected. As a result I already have the required separators (which are holding the according SoTransforms and SoCubes) in a SoPathList. Now I want to arrange the cubes by modifing the according SoTransform-translation values. Regards Mark

• [Repost-ish] Impossibly slow queries, Tables indexed, How can I speed it up?

  Hi guys, I posted a little earlier on here at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2656837/query-results-taking-too-long-on-200k-database-speed-up-tips asking about slow executing SQL queries. I was told to index the columns; I did. and its still slow (slow as in, i never see the results, both mysql and sqlite freeze up on query). Help would be greatly appreciated. • Android accessibility focus - clicking a view changes focus to previous view

  I'm using android TalkBack to test my application for accessibility use. When I swipe to select a view and double tap, the focus returns the the view above it. Usually when swiping to a view and double clicking it, onClick is called. • Flex / Flash builder : no returning data using database

  Hello, i'm following some flex tutorials everything's working as wanted expected for one thing : When i use my function getServerByBrand($brand) there is no returned data into my datagrid and i don't know why because it uses the same schema as getAllserver() which is working . • What is the best way to update an unattached entity on Entity Framework?

  Hi, In my project I have some data classes to retrieve data from the database using the Entity Framework. We called these classes *EntityName*Manager. So, my question is "what is the best way to create an update method on my *EntityA*Manager class?" I'd like to pass the modified entity as a parameter of the method.   I have written a small XML validator, that takes in an XML file and an XML schema and validates the XML files against that schema. • drew's autoSuggest plugin help with AJAX results not showing

  hey guys, i use drew's autoSuggest plugin for some time but up until now I have hard coded my data into my JS, I'm trying to see if I can use AJAX to return the JSON data and query data like that. I seem to have it working but no matter what I try I can't get the results to be shown in the drop down UL it creates via jquery. The JSON comes back as it should. • Implementing crossover in genetic programming

  Hi, I'm writing a genetic programming (GP) system (in C but that's a minor detail). I've read a lot of the literature (Koza, Poli, Langdon, Banzhaf, Brameier, et al) but there are some implementation details I've never seen explained. For example: I'm using a steady state population rather than a generational approach, primarily to use all of the computer's memory rather than reserve half for the interim population. Q1. In GP, as opposed to GA, when you perform crossover you select two parents but do you create one child or two, or is that a free choice you have? Q2. In steady state GP, as opposed to a generational system, what members of the population do the children created by crossover replace? This is what I haven't seen discussed. Is it the two parents, or is it two other, randomly-selected members? I can understand if it's the latter, and that you might use negative tournament selection to choose members to replace, but would that not create premature convergence? (After a crossover event the population contains the two original parents plus two children of those parents, and two other random members get removed. Elitism is inherent.) Q3. Is there a Web forum or mailing list focused on GP? Oddly I haven't found one. Yahoo's GP group is used almost exclusively for announcements, the Poli/Langdon Field Guide forum is almost silent, and GP discussions on general/game programming sites like gamedev.net are very basic. • Setting the target and parent dropdown values from a DB when using CascadingDropDown

However, I sometimes want to set the values of the parent and target from a DB (I want to default them, based on a code entered by the user; the whole thing is wrapped in an update panel). So if the user keys in ABC, I look up ABC in the DB and default the Parent DropDown to ID 10 and Child DropDown to ID 101. However, this fails because the child has no items when the server side code runs (the web script method hasn't run, because the content of the parent dd wasn't changed on the client side) Does anybody know how to work around this? • How do I pass arguments to pages in a WPF application?

  I'm working on upgrading a really old VB6 app to a WPF application. This will be a page-based app, but not a XBAP. The old VB6 app had a start form where a user would enter search criteria. Then they would get results in a grid, select a row in the grid and then click on one of 3 buttons. I am thinking that what I'll do is use hyperlink controls on the WPF app. No matter what button the user clicked on the old VB6 app, it would go to a second form. What it did on the second form was dependent upon which button the user clicked on the first form. So, I want the first page in my WPF app to do the same thing, but depending upon which hyperlink they click on will dictate what happens on the second page. They will either (a) go to the second page to edit the details as well as a lot more information, related to what they selected on the first page, or (b) enter a new record and all associated data (a new client, in this case), or (c) create a new case for the same client, selected on the first page. For me the hard thing is I don't know how to pass that information along to the second page. Is there something in WPF like in HTML where there's a query string? Or how do you get information from the first page to the second page, in WPF? I'm working in VS 2008.

• How to figure out what error my Java Eclipse project has?

  I've created a Java project from existing source with an Ant build script in Eclipse. I cannot run my project because Eclipse tells me that there is at least one error in it. Now, I know that the project runs fine on the command line, so I suspect an Eclipse configuration error. As far as I can tell, the only feedback that I have from Eclipse is a little red X on my project in the Package Explorer window and dialog window when I try to run the project says there are errors in the project This is all wonderful, but what is the error? Is there a "show me the next error" button somewhere? In the past, on other Eclipse projects, I've notice other little red X's on folders containing source files with errors, the little red X's appear on the source files as well. I scanned (manually) through all of the source files and I haven't found any other red X's (again, where is the "next error" button?). If I select the "Proceed" button I am greeted with a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError for my main class, which makes me suspect a classpath issue. I've checked the classpath, and I'm fairly certain that it's correct. Is there a way to see the exact jvm command line that Eclipse is invoking? I realize that it might be invoking the JVM programmatically, and not on a "real" command line. In any case, is there a way, other than the run configuration dialog, to see what is actually happening when I hit the "Proceed" button?

I sometimes need to create other repository instances within controllers, to pick up data from other places, can I do this using the CW IoC, if so then how? I have been playing around with the creation of new controller classes, as they should auto-register with my existing code (if I can get this working, I can register them properly later) but when I try to instantiate them there is an obvious objection as I can't supply a repos class for the constructor (I was pretty sure that was the wrong way to go about it anyway). • Linq to sql DataContext cannot set load options after results been returned

  I have two tables A and B with a one-to-many relationship respectively. On some pages I would like to get a list of A objects only. On other pages I would like to load A with objects in B attached. This can be handled by setting the load options DataLoadOptions options = new DataLoadOptions(); options.LoadWith<A>(a => a.B); dataContext.LoadOptions = options; The trouble occurs when I first of all view all A's with load options, then go to edit a single A (do not use load options), and after edit return to the previous page. I understand why the error is occurring but not sure how to best get round this problem. I would like the DataContext to be loaded up per request. I thought I was achieving this by using StructureMap to load up my DataContext on a per request basis. This is all part of an n-tier application where my Controllers call Services which in turn call Repositories. ForRequestedType<MyDataContext>() .CacheBy(InstanceScope.PerRequest) .TheDefault.Is.Object(new MyDataContext()); ForRequestedType<IAService>() .TheDefault.Is.OfConcreteType<AService>(); ForRequestedType<IARepository>() .TheDefault.Is.OfConcreteType<ARepository>(); Here is a brief outline of my Repository public class ARepository : IARepository { private MyDataContext db; public ARepository(MyDataContext context) { db = context; } public void SetLoadOptions(DataLoadOptions options) { db.LoadOptions = options; } public IQueryable<A> Get() { return from a in db.A select a; } So my ServiceLayer, on View All, sets the load options and then gets all A's. On editing A my ServiceLayer should spin up a new DataContext and just fetch a list of A's. When sql profiling, I can see that when I go to the Edit page it is requesting A with B objects.

  I am trying to perform a LINQ query on a DataTable and show the result in another DataTable. My source DataTable looks something like this: DataTable myDataTable = new DataTable(); myDataTable.Columns.Add("OrderID", typeof(int)); myDataTable.Columns.Add("Date", typeof(DateTime)); myDataTable.Columns.Add("UnitsPurchased", typeof(int)); The resulting DataTable looks like this when filled: Order ID Date Units Purchased 16548 10/15/09 250 17984 11/03/09 512 20349 01/11/10 213 34872 01/15/10 175 My current LINQ query looks like this: IEnumerable<DataRow> query = (from row in myDataTable.AsEnumerable() where row.UnitsPurchased > 200 select new { row.OrderID, row.Date, row.UnitsPurchased }) as IEnumerable<DataRow>; resultDataTable.DataSource = query.CopyToDataTable<DataRow>(); Every time I run this code query is null. I can see that that the as IEnumerable<DataRow> is the culprit, but it makes no since to me since DataTable.AsEnumerable() returns an IEnumerable<DataRow>. Any help would be appreciated.

• Slow MySQL Query Breaking my back!

  so, I have tried everything I can think of, and can't get this query to happen in less than 3 seconds on my local server. • Simple, fast SQL queries for flat files.

  Does anyone know of any tools to provide simple, fast queries of flat files using a SQL-like declarative query language? I'd rather not pay the overhead of loading the file into a DB since the input data is typically thrown out almost immediately after the query is run. Consider the data file, "animals.txt": dog 15 cat 20 dog 10 cat 30 dog 5 cat 40 Suppose I want to extract the highest value for each unique animal. I would like to write something like: cat animals.txt | foo "select $1, max(convert($2 using decimal)) group by $1" I can get nearly the same result using sort: cat animals.txt | sort -t " " -k1,1 -k2,2nr And I can always drop into awk from there, but this all feels a bit awkward (couldn't resist) when a SQL-like language would seem to solve the problem so cleanly. I've considered writing a wrapper for SQLite that would automatically create a table based on the input data, and I've looked into using Hive in single-processor mode, but I can't help but feel this problem has been solved before. Am I missing something? Is this functionality already implemented by another standard tool? Halp!

• Linq to SQL with INSTEAD OF Trigger and an Identity Column

  I need to use the clock on my SQL Server to write a time to one of my tables, so I thought I'd just use GETDATE(). The problem is that I'm getting an error because of my INSTEAD OF trigger. Is there a way to set one column to GETDATE() when another column is an identity column? I could remove EventTime from my entity, but I don't want to do that. If it was gone though, then it would be NULL during the INSERT and GETDATE() would be used. Is there a way that I can simply use GETDATE() on the EventTime column for INSERTs? Note: I do not want to use C#'s DateTime.Now for two reasons: 1. One of these inserts is generated by SQL Server itself (from another stored procedure) 2. Times can be different on different machines, and I'd like to know exactly how fast my processes are happening.

  here is my 3 tables: table 1 -- stores user information and it has unique data table 2 -- stores place category such as, toronto, ny, london, etc hence this is is also unique table 3 -- has duplicate information. it stores all the places a user have been. the 3 tables are linked or joined by these ids: table 1 has an "table1_id" table 2 has an "table2_id" and "place_name" table 3 has an "table3_id", "table1_id", "place_name" i have an interface where an admin sees all users. beside a user is "edit" button. clicking on that edit button allows you to edit a specific user in a form fields which has a multiple drop down box for "places". if an admin edits a user and add 1 "places" for the user, i insert that information using php. if the admin decides to deselect that 1 "places" do i delete it or mark it as on and off? how about if the admin decides to select 2 "places" for the user; change the first "places" and add an additional "places". will my table just keep growing and will i have just redundant information? thanks.

• Reloading a JTree during runtime

  I create a JTree and model for it out in a class separate to the GUI class. The data for the JTree is extracted from a file. Now in the GUI class the user can add files from the file system to an AWT list. After the user clicks on a file in the list I want the JTree to update. The variable name for the JTree is schemaTree. I have the following code for the when an item in the list is selected: private void schemaListItemStateChanged(java.awt.event.ItemEvent evt) { int selection = schemaList.getSelectedIndex(); File selectedFile = schemas.get(selection); long fileSize = selectedFile.length(); fileInfoLabel.setText("Size: " + fileSize + " bytes"); schemaParser = new XSDParser(selectedFile.getAbsolutePath()); TreeModel model = schemaParser.generateTreeModel(); schemaTree.setModel(model); } I've updated the code to correspond to the accepted answer. The JTree now updates correctly based on which file I select in the list.

• Kohana 3 ORM: How to get data from pivot table? and all other tables for that matter

  I am trying to use ORM to access data stored, in three mysql tables 'users', 'items', and a pivot table for the many-many relationship: 'user_item' I followed the guidance from http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1946357/kohana-3-orm-read-additional-columns-in-pivot-tables and tried $user = ORM::factory('user',1); $user->items->find_all(); $user_item = ORM::factory('user_item', array('user_id' => $user, 'item_id' => $user->items)); if ($user_item->loaded()) { foreach ($user_item as $pivot) { print_r($pivot); } } But I get the SQL error: "Unknown column 'user_item.id' in 'order clause' [ SELECT user_item.* FROM user_item WHERE user_id = '1' AND item_id = '' ORDER BY user_item.id ASC LIMIT 1 ]" Which is clearly erroneous because Kohana is trying to order the elements by a column which doesn't exist: user_item.id. This id doesnt exist because the primary keys of this pivot table are the foreign keys of the two other tables, 'users' and 'items'. Trying to use: $user_item = ORM::factory('user_item', array('user_id' => $user, 'item_id' => $user->items)) ->order_by('item_id', 'ASC'); Makes no difference, as it seems the order_by() or any sql queries are ignored if the second argument of the factory is given. Another obvious error with that query is that the item_id = '', when it should contain all the elements. So my question is how can I get access to the data stored in the pivot table, and actually how can I get access to the all items held by a particular user as I even had problems with that? Thanks
