  • Export database data to csv from view by date range asp.net mvc3

    - by Benjamin Randal
    I am trying to find a way to export data from my database and save it as a .csv file. Ideally the user will be able to select a date range on a view, which will display the data to be exported, then the user can click an "export to CSV" link. I've done quite a bit of searching and but have not found much specific enough to help me step through the process. Any help would be great. I would like to export data from this database model... { public class InspectionInfo { [Key] public int InspectionId { get; set; } [DisplayName("Date Submitted")] [DataType(DataType.Date)] // [Required] public DateTime Submitted { get; set; } [DataType(DataType.MultilineText)] [MaxLength(1000)] // [Required] public string Comments { get; set; } // [Required] public Contact Contact { get; set; } [ForeignKey("Contact")] public Int32 ContactId { get; set; } [MaxLength(100)] public String OtherContact { get; set; } I have a service for search also, just having difficulty implementing public SearchResults SearchInspections(SearchRequest request) { using (var db = new InspectionEntities()) { var results = db.InspectionInfos .Where( i=> ( (null == request.StartDate || i.Submitted >= request.StartDate.Value) && (null == request.EndDate || i.Submitted <= request.EndDate.Value) ) ) .OrderBy(i=>i.Submitted) .Skip(request.PageSize*request.PageIndex).Take(request.PageSize); return new SearchResults{ TotalResults=results.Count(), PageIndex=request.PageIndex, Inspections=results.ToList(), SearchRequest=request }; } }

  • ASP.Net MVC elegant UI and ModelBinder authorization

    - by SDReyes
We know authorization stuff is a cross cutting concern, and we do anything we could to avoid merge business logic in our views. But I still not found an elegant way to filter UI components (e.g. widgets, form elements, tables, etc) using the current user roles without contaminate the view with business logic. same applies for model binding. Example Form: Product Creation Fields: Name Price Discount Roles: Role Administrator Is allowed to see and modify the Name field Is allowed to see and modify the Price field Is allowed to see and modify the Discount Role Administrator assistant Is allowed to see and modify the Name Is allowed to see and modify the Price Fields shown in each role are different, and model binding needs to ignore the discount field for 'Administrator assistant' role. How would you do it?

  • ASP MVC: Custom Validation Attribute

    - by user323395
I'm trying to write my own Custom Validation attribute but i'm having some problems. The attribute i'm trying to write is that when a user logs in, the password will be compared against the confirmation password. namespace EventCompanion.Data.Attributes { public class ComparePassword : ValidationAttribute { public string PasswordToCompareWith { get; set; } public override bool IsValid(object value) { if (PasswordToCompareWith == (string)value) { return true; } return false; } } Now my problem is when i'm trying to set the attribute like this in the model file: [Required] [ComparePassword(PasswordToCompareWith=ConfirmPassword)] public string Password { get; set; } [Required] public string ConfirmPassword { get; set; } } I get the following error: Error 1 An object reference is required for the non-static field, method, or property 'Project.Data.Models.GebruikerRegistreerModel.ConfirmPassword.get' It seems that VS is not accepting the confirmpassword in the "PasswordToCompareWith=ConfirmPassword" part Now my question: What am i doing wrong? Thanks in advance!!!

  • Need help with auto-scaffolding template in ASP.NET MVC

    - by DanM
I'm trying to write an auto-scaffolder for Index views. I'd like to be able to pass in a collection of models or view-models (e.g., IQueryable<MyViewModel>) and get back an HTML table that uses the DisplayName attribute for the headings (th elements) and Html.Display(propertyName) for the cells (td elements). Each row should correspond to one item in the collection. Here's what I have so far: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl" %> <% var items = (IQueryable<TestProj.ViewModels.TestViewModel>)Model; // Should be generic! var properties = items.First().GetMetadata().Properties .Where(pm => pm.ShowForDisplay && !ViewData.TemplateInfo.Visited(pm)); %> <table> <tr> <% foreach(var property in properties) { %> <th> <%= property.DisplayName %> </th> <% } %> </tr> <% foreach(var item in items) { %> <tr> <% foreach(var property in properties) { %> <td> <%= Html.Display(property.DisplayName) %> // This doesn't work! </td> <% } %> </tr> <% } %> </table> Two problems with this: I'd like it to be generic. So, I'd like to replace var items = (IQueryable<TestProj.ViewModels.TestViewModel>)Model; with var items = (IQueryable<T>)Model; or something to that effect. The <td> elements are not working because the Html in <%= Html.Display(property.DisplayName) %> contains the model for the view, which is a collection of items, not the item itself. Somehow, I need to obtain an HtmlHelper object whose Model property is the current item, but I'm not sure how to do that. How do I solve these two problems?

Hi guys, I recently bought some webspace with dailyrazor.com. This is causing some issues when entering data as errors occur on date fields. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jon

  • Can User have more than one roles in asp.net

    - by madness800
I'm developing a web application I want to use the role authentication to control different parts of the website accessibility. But my problem is say I implemented a upload and download functionality on one of the page and I want to have the ability to control a user whether they can either upload or download; or both. So, I'm not exactly sure if the role base authentication can support a user with more than one role to work the way I want it.

  • How to use client side code in Visual studio ASP.NET

    - by Robert
I am a quite new to web development and I am trying to do some small form updates without causing a postback. For example making a control visible when a drop down list is changed. I have so far come across some features that achieve this like the RequiredFieldValidator inside an update panels. However, these are specific to a single task. What are my options to achieve these client side updates in Visual Studio? At the moment I don't know any JavaScript, so I would prefer another solution if it exists.

  • Use ASP.NET Profile or not?

    - by DotnetDude
I need to store a few attributes of an authenticated user (I am using Membership API) and I need to make a choice between using Profiles or adding a new table with UserId as the PK. It appears that using Profiles is quick and needs less work upfront. However, I see the following downsides: The profile values are squished into a single ntext column. At some point in the future, I will have SQL scripts that may update user's attributes. Querying a ntext column and trying to update a value sounds a little buggy to me. If I choose to add a new user specific property and would like to assign a default for all the existing users, would it be possible? My first impression has been that using profiles may cause maintainance headaches in the long run. Thoughts?

  • Struggling with ASP.NET MVC auto-scaffolder template

So, I'd like to replace var items = (IQueryable<TestProj.ViewModels.TestViewModel>)Model; with var items = (IQueryable<T>)Model; or something to that effect. A property Html is automatically created for me when the view is created, but this HtmlHelper applies to the whole collection. I need to somehow create an itemHtml object that applies just to the current item in the foreach loop. I'm not sure how to do this, however, because the constructors for HtmlHelper don't take a Model object. How do I solve these two problems?

  • ASP.NET MVC - Disable Html Helper control using boolean value from Model

    - by The Matt
I am outputting a textbox to the page using the Html helpers. I want to add the disabled attribute dynamically based on whether or not a boolean value in my model is true or false. My model has a method that returns a boolean value: <% =Model.IsMyTextboxEnabled() %> I currently render the textbox like follows, but I want to now enabled or disable it: <% =Html.TextBox("MyTextbox", Model.MyValuenew { id = "MyTextbox", @class = "MyClass" })%> If the return value of Model.IsMyTextboxEnabled() == true I want the following to be output: <input class="MyClass" id="MyTextbox" name="MyTextbox" type="text" value="" /> If it == false, I want it to output as: <input class="MyClass" id="MyTextbox" name="MyTextbox" type="text" value="" disabled /> What is the cleanest way to do this?

  • ASP.NET MVC thinks my virtual directory is a controller

    - by kmehta
I have a virtual directory under my MVC website in IIS called "Files". This directory is at the same level as my Views directory. When I link to a file from my MVC app to a file under my Files directory, I get the following error: The controller for path '/Files/Images/1c7f7eb8-5d66-4bca-a73a-4ba6340a7805.JPG' was not found or does not implement IController. It thinks that my Files VD is a controller. How do I access my files like a normal VD without MVC interfering? Thanks.

  • Prevent ASP.NET MVC Bundles Loading more than once

    - by Tim
is there an inbuilt method of tracking if a bundle has already been loaded? I have several edit views which forexample require jquery and jquery.Validate etc libraries. Which i don't need to reference on the main layout page. Since a page could consist of several different conditional libraries ... ideally i would like @scripts.Render to know if i have already referenced a library and prevent its reloading. Cheers Tim

  • ASP.net error message when using REST starter kit

    - by jonhobbs
Hi all, I've written some code using the REST starter kit and it works fine on my development machine. However, when I upload it to our server the page gives me the following error message... CS1684: Warning as Error: Reference to type 'System.Runtime.Serialization.Json.DataContractJsonSerializer' claims it is defined in 'c:\WINNT\assembly\GAC_MSIL\System.ServiceModel.Web\3.5.0.0__31bf3856ad364e35\System.ServiceModel.Web.dll', but it could not be found I've removed code line by line and it appears that the following line of code is triggering the error... HttpContent newOrganizationContent = HttpContentExtensions.CreateXmlSerializable(newOrganizationXml); Really haven't got a clue how to fix it. I assumed it might be because it needs a newer version of the framework to run, but looking in IIS it says it's running version 2.0.50727 which I think is the lates version because it says that even when we're using framework 3.5 Very confused, any ideas? • HttpRequestValidationexception on Asp.Net MVC

    - by elranu
I’m getting an HttpRequestValidationexception with this error message: “A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client”. But I have AllowHtml on the property that I’m getting the error. The problem is that later in my code I’m getting the following property to know in witch format I will show my view ControllerContext.HttpContext.Request.Params.AllKeys.Contains("format"). And on this “Param Getter” I’m getting the error. Let’s say my code is similar to the following: public class House { [AllowHtml] public string Text { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } } [HttpPost, ValidateAntiForgeryToken] public ActionResult CreateTopic(House h) { //business code if(ControllerContext.HttpContext.Request.Params.AllKeys.Contains("format")) { Return view; } } How can I solve this? I already try with the ValidateInput(false) attribute on the controller action method. Any idea?

  • Proper way to build a data Repository in ASP.NET MVC

    - by rockinthesixstring
I'm working on using the Repository methodology in my App and I have a very fundamental question. When I build my Model, I have a Data.dbml file and then I'm putting my Repositories in the same folder with it.... IE: Data.dbml IUserRepository.cs UserRepository.cs My question is simple. Is it better to build the folder structure like that above, or is it ok to simply put my Interface in with the UserRepository.cs? Data.dbml UserRepository.cs              which contains both the interface and the class Just looking for "best practices" here. Thanks in advance.

  • C#/ASP.NET MVC 4 Instantiate Object Derived From Interface In Factory Method

    - by Chris
Currently have a Factory class that features a GetSelector function, which returns a concrete implementation of ISelector. I have several different classes that implement ISelector and based on a setting I would like to receive the appropriate ISelector back. public interface ISelector { string GetValue(string Params); } public class XmlSelector : ISelector { public string GetValue(string Params) { // open XML file and get value } } public static class SelectorFactory { public static ISelector GetSelector() { return new XmlSelector(); // Needs changing to look at settings } } My question is what is the best way to store the setting? I am aware of using AppSettings etc. but I'm not sure whether I want to have to store strings in the web.config and perform a switch on it - just seems to be really tightly coupled in that if a new implementation of ISelector is made, then the Factory would need to be changed. Is there any way of perhaps storing an assembly name and instantiating based on that? Thanks, Chris
