  • use viewengine only within certain area

    - by Daniel Powell
Is it possible to use a custom view engine for a specific area only? I have tried public override void RegisterArea(AreaRegistrationContext context) { context.MapRoute( "Forms_default", "Forms/{client}/{controller}/{action}/{id}", new { client="Generic",action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional } ); ViewEngines.Engines.Clear(); ViewEngines.Engines.Add(new ClientSpecificViewEngine()); } Within my area but this seems to be a site wide affect as I'm getting errors specific to the custom view engine when visiting pages outside the area.

  • Scaling an Image in GWT

    - by Daniel
Changing the size of an Image Widget in GWT changes the size of the image element, but does not rescale the image on the screen. Therefore, the following will not work: Image image = new Image(myImageResource); image.setHeight(newHeight); image.setWidth(newWidth); image.setPixelSize(newWidth, newHeight); This is because GWT implements its Image widget by setting the background-image of the HTML <img... /> element as the image, using CSS. How does one get the actual image to resize?

  • Direct show video renderers suck?

    - by Daniel
So I've been looking into the world of media playback for windows and I've started making a C# Media Player using DirectShow. I started off using the VRM-7 windowed video renderer and it was brilliant except it had a couple of small problems (multi monitors, fullscreen). But after some research I found that it's deprecated and I should be using VRM9. So I changed it to use VRM9 windowless then found out that was an old post rofl _< so finally I'm using Vista/Win7 (or XP .net 3) Enhanced Video Renderer (EVR) which is apparently the most up to date Microsoft video renderer and has all the flashy performance/quality things added to it. (tbh I haven't noticed any difference but maybe I need a blue-ray or HQ video to notice it). With using EVR everything is working fine except resizing the video. Its really laggy/choppy/teary and problem something to do with its frame queueing mechanism. To demonstrate my problem open up windows media player classic. View - Options - Playback - output Chose the "EVR" DirectShow Video renderer Now restart wmp class and play a video, while it's playing click and drag a corner to resize it. You'll notice its horribly laggy. This is the exact same problem i am having. But if you chose "EVR Custom Pres. *" or EVR Sync *" resizing works beautifully! So i tried googling around for anything about EVR resizing issues and how to fix it but i couldn't believe how little i could find. I'm guessing "Custom Pres." stands for "Custom Presenter" which sounds like they made their own. Also you'll notice on the right hand size when you swap between EVR and the other EVR's the Resizer drop down on the right greys out. So basically I wan't to know how I can fix this retarded resizing problem and is there any decent documentation out there? There is a fair bit for VMR7/9 but not much for EVR. I downloaded the DirectX SDK which apparently has samples but it was a waste of 500mb of bandwidth as it had nothing relevant. Perhaps there is some way to force it not queueing up frames if that is the problem? If you want code say the word and I'll paste some in. But it's really quite simple and nothing much happens, i'm convinced it's a problem with the EVR renderer. EDIT: Oh and one other thing, what does VLC use? If you go into vlc options and change the renderer to anything but default, they all suck. So is it using VMR7? Or its own?

  • jQuery Autocomplete fetch and parse data source with custom function, except not

    - by Ben Dauphinee
    So, I am working with the jQuery Autocomplete function, and am trying to write a custom data parser. Not sure what I am doing incorrectly, but it throws an error on trying to call the autocompleteSourceParse function, saying that req is not set. setURL("ajax/clients/ac"); function autocompleteSourceParse(req, add){ var suggestions = []; $.getJSON(getURL()+"/"+req, function(data){ $.each(data, function(i, val){ suggestions.push(val.name); }); add(suggestions); }); return(suggestions); } $("#company").autocomplete({ source: autocompleteSourceParse(req, add), minLength: 2 });

  • How do I work with constructs in PHPUnit?

    - by Ben Dauphinee
I am new into PHPUnit, and just digging through the manual. I cannot find a decent example of how to build a complete test from end to end though, and so, am left with questions. One of these is how can I prep my environment to properly test my code? I am trying to figure out how to properly pass various configuration values needed for both the test setup/teardown methods, and the configs for the class itself. // How can I set these variables on testing start? protected $_db = null; protected $_config = null; // So that this function runs properly? public function setUp(){ $this->_acl = new acl( $this->_db, // The database connection for the class passed // from whatever test construct $this->_config // Config values passed in from construct ); } // Can I just drop in a construct like this, and have it work properly? // And if so, how can I set the construct call properly? public function __construct( Zend_Db_Adapter_Abstract $db, $config = array(), $baselinedatabase = NULL, $databaseteardown = NULL ){ $this->_db = $db; $this->_config = $config; $this->_baselinedatabase = $baselinedatabase; $this->_databaseteardown = $databaseteardown; } // Or is the wrong idea to be pursuing?

  • How to perform a binary search on IList<T>?

    - by Daniel Brückner
Simple question - given an IList<T> how do you perform a binary search without writing the method yourself and without copying the data to a type with build-in binary search support. My current status is the following. List<T>.BinarySearch() is not a member of IList<T> There is no equivalent of the ArrayList.Adapter() method for List<T> IList<T> does not inherit from IList, hence using ArrayList.Adapter() is not possible I tend to believe that is not possible with build-in methods, but I cannot believe that such a basic method is missing from the BCL/FCL. If it is not possible, who can give the shortest, fastest, smartest, or most beatiful binary search implementation for IList<T>? UPDATE We all know that a list must be sorted before using binary search, hence you can assume that it is. But I assume (but did not verify) it is the same problem with sort - how do you sort IList<T>? CONCLUSION There seems to be no build-in binary search for IList<T>. One can use First() and OrderBy() LINQ methods to search and sort, but it will likly have a performance hit. Implementing it yourself (as an extension method) seems the best you can do.

  • Queuing methods to be run on an object by different threads in Python

    - by Ben
Let's say I have an object who's class definition looks like: class Command: foo = 5 def run(self, bar): time.sleep(1) self.foo = bar return self.foo If this class is instantiated once, but different threads are hitting its run method (via an HTTP request, handled separately) passing in different args, what is the best method to queue them? Can this be done in the class definition itself?

  • How to know which process hold a semnum with a specific number?

  • Programmer tendency to preach [closed]

    - by Daniel
I've run across several SO posts that come across as preachy or condescending. Do pedagogical programmers feel plagued by thoughtless questions? Or, do programmers count self-sufficiency such a virtue that any perceived lack of ambition merits scolding? These are some theories, admittedly negative ones. Can anyone offer some insight?

  • (Not So) Silly Objective-C inheritance problem when using property - GCC Bug?

    - by Ben Packard
Update 2 - Many people are insisting I need to declare an iVar for the property. Some are saying not so, as I am using Modern Runtime (64 bit). I can confirm that I have been successfully using @property without iVars for months now. Therefore, I think the 'correct' answer is an explanation as to why on 64bit I suddenly have to explicitly declare the iVar when (and only when) i'm going to access it from a child class. The only one I've seen so far is a possible GCC bug (thanks Yuji). Not so simple after all... Update - I messed up one line of the original copy and paste - corrected. The @property call was missing (nonatomic, retain) but is a red herring - STILL NEED AN ANSWER! Thanks. I've been scratching my head with this for a couple of hours - I haven't used inheritance much. Here I have set up a simple Test B class that inherits from Test A, where an ivar is declared. But I get the compilation error that the variable is undeclared. This only happens when I add the property and synthesize declarations - works fine without them. TestA Header: #import <Cocoa/Cocoa.h> @interface TestA : NSObject { NSString *testString; } @end TestA Implementation is empty: #import "TestA.h" @implementation TestA @end TestB Header: #import <Cocoa/Cocoa.h> #import "TestA.h" @interface TestB : TestA { } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSString *testProp; @end TestB Implementation (Error - 'testString' is undeclared) #import "TestB.h" @implementation TestB @synthesize testProp; - (void)testing{ NSLog(@"test ivar is %@", testString); } @end

  • Emulate disk IO speeds in Android SDK

    - by Ben L.
I don't have a physical Android device to work with, so all I can use is the emulator. I'm wondering if there's something I could use to make the IO speeds more realistic - How do I slow down disk access to the speed it would be on a physical device? Also, this may be unrelated, but when I change the speed and latency options in Eclipse ADT DDMS view, I don't notice any change in internet speed on the emulator. Is this a bug?

  • Reorganizing MySQL table to multiple rows by timestamp.

    OK MySQL Wizards: I have a table of position data from multiple probes defined as follows: +----------+----------+------+-----+---------+-------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +----------+----------+------+-----+---------+-------+ | time | datetime | NO | | NULL | | | probe_id | char(3) | NO | | NULL | | | position | float | NO | | NULL | | +----------+----------+------+-----+---------+-------+ A simple select outputs something like this: +---------------------+----------+----------+ | time | probe_id | position | +---------------------+----------+----------+ | 2010-05-05 14:16:42 | 00A | 0.0045 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:42 | 00B | 0.0005 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:42 | 00C | 0.002 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:42 | 01A | 0 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:42 | 01B | 0.001 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:42 | 01C | 0.0025 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:43 | 00A | 0.0045 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:43 | 00B | 0.0005 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:43 | 00C | 0.002 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:43 | 01A | 0 | | . | . | . | | . | . | . | | . | . | . | +---------------------+----------+----------+ However, I'd like to output something like this: +---------------------+--------+--------+-------+-----+-------+--------+ | time | 00A | 00B | 00C | 01A | 01B | 01C | +---------------------+--------+--------+-------+-----+-------+--------+ | 2010-05-05 14:16:42 | 0.0045 | 0.0005 | 0.002 | 0 | 0.001 | 0.0025 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:43 | 0.0045 | 0.0005 | 0.002 | 0 | 0.001 | 0.0025 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:44 | 0.0045 | 0.0005 | 0.002 | 0 | 0.001 | 0.0025 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:45 | 0.0045 | 0.0005 | 0.002 | 0 | 0.001 | 0.0025 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:46 | 0.0045 | 0.0005 | 0.002 | 0 | 0.001 | 0.0025 | | 2010-05-05 14:16:47 | 0.0045 | 0.0005 | 0.002 | 0 | 0.001 | 0.0025 | | . | . | . | . | . | . | . | | . | . | . | . | . | . | . | | . | . | . | . | . | . | . | +---------------------+--------+--------+-------+-----+-------+--------+ Ideally, the different probe position columns are dynamically generated based on data in the table. • The Immerman-Szelepcsenyi Theorem

    - by Daniel Lorch
In the Immerman-Szelepcsenyi Theorem, two algorithms are specified that use non-determinisim. There is a rather lengthy algorithm using "inductive counting", which determines the number of reachable configurations for a given non-deterministic turing machine. The algorithm looks like this: Let m_{i+1}=0 For all configurations C Let b=0, r=0 For all configurations D Guess a path from I to D in at most i steps If found Let r=r+1 If D=C or D goes to C in 1 step Let b=1 If r<m_i halt and reject Let m_{i+1}=m_{i+1}+b I is the starting configuration. m_i is the number of configurations reachable from the starting configuration in i steps. This algorithm only calculates the "next step", i.e. m_i+1 from m_i. This seems pretty reasonable, but since we have nondeterminisim, why don't we just write: Let m_i = 0 For all configurations C Guess a path from I to C in at most i steps If found m_i = m_i + 1 What is wrong with this algorithm? I am using nondeterminism to guess a path from I to C, and I verify reachability I am iterating through the list of ALL configurations, so I am sure to not miss any configuration I respect space bounds I can generate a certificate (the list of reachable configs) I believe I have a misunderstanding of the "power" of non-determinisim, but I can't figure out where to look next. I am stuck on this for quite a while and I would really appreciate any help.

  • Meaning of Execute_priv on mysql.db table

    - by Ben Reisner
I created user 'restriceduser' on my mysql server that is 'locked down'. The mysql.user table has a N for all priveledges for that account. The mysql.db table has Y for only Select, Insert, Update, Delete, Create, Drop; all other privileges are N for that account. I tried to create a stored procedure and then grant him access to run only that procedure, no others, but it does not work. The user receives: Error: execute command denied to user 'restricteduser'@'%' for routine 'mydb.functionname' The stored procedure: CREATE DEFINER = 'restriceduser'@'%' FUNCTION `functionname`(sIn MEDIUMTEXT, sformat MEDIUMTEXT) RETURNS int(11) NOT DETERMINISTIC CONTAINS SQL SQL SECURITY DEFINER COMMENT '' BEGIN .... END; The grant statement I tried: GRANT EXECUTE ON PROCEDURE mydb.functionname TO 'restricteduser'@'%'; I was able to work around by modifying his mysql.db entry with update mysql.db set execute_priv='Y' where user='restricteduser' This seems to be more then I want, because it opens up permissions for him to run any stored procedure in that database, while I only wanted him to have permissions to run the designated function. Does anyone see where my issue may lie?

  • Scala and the Java Memory Model

    - by Ben Lings
The Java Memory Model (since 1.5) treats final fields differently to non-final fields. In particular, provided the this reference doesn't escape during construction, writes to final fields in the constructor are guaranteed to be visible on other threads even if the object is made available to the other thread via a data race. (Writes to non-final fields aren't guaranteed to be visible, so if you improperly publish them, another thread could see them in a partially constructed state.) Is there any documentation on how/if the Scala compiler creates final (rather than non-final) backing fields for classes? I've looked through the language specification and searched the web but can't find any definitive answers. (In comparison the @scala.volatile annotation is documented to mark a field as volatile)

  • SilverLight WebApp Calling Webservice in the same solution

    - by Ben
Hi, I have a website solution that is composed of a SilverLight Project and an ASP Site that contains an asmx Webservice. The SilverLight project calls various methods in the Webservice, and this works fine on my home PC. When i publish the site (using 123-Reg if that makes a difference), it appears that the SilverLight app is no longer able to call the webservice. I have tried debugging the app by pointing my local version of the site to my published webservice and i get a "policy" issue. I know that 123 Reg have .Net 3.5 running on their servers, so i would assume that the site should "just work" when i publish it. Am i making a hugely stupid assumption there? Is there anything that i can do to change the "policies" within my app? Or is there another way around what i am trying to do ( i need to keep the webservice, as i want for it to be used from other places, and dont really want to duplicate code and create the same methods within the SilverLight project). Thanks

  • Dynamically setting the queryset of a ModelMultipleChoiceField to a custom recordset

    - by Daniel Quinn
I've seen all the howtos about how you can set a ModelMultipleChoiceField to use a custom queryset and I've tried them and they work. However, they all use the same paradigm: the queryset is just a filtered list of the same objects. In my case, I'm trying to get the admin to draw a multiselect form that instead of using usernames as the text portion of the , I'd like to use the name field from my account class. Here's a breakdown of what I've got: # models.py class Account(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=128,help_text="A display name that people understand") user = models.ForeignKey(User, unique=True) # Tied to the User class in settings.py class Organisation(models.Model): administrators = models.ManyToManyField(User) # admin.py from django.forms import ModelMultipleChoiceField from django.contrib.auth.models import User class OrganisationAdminForm(forms.ModelForm): def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs): from ethico.accounts.models import Account self.base_fields["administrators"] = ModelMultipleChoiceField( queryset=User.objects.all(), required=False ) super(OrganisationAdminForm, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs) class Meta: model = Organisation This works, however, I want queryset above to draw a selectbox with the Account.name property and the User.id property. This didn't work: queryset=Account.objects.all().order_by("name").values_list("user","name") It failed with this error: 'tuple' object has no attribute 'pk' I figured that this would be easy, but it's turned into hours of dead-ends. Anyone care to shed some light?

  • What is the best way, if possible, to send information from a Java PrintStream to a JTextPane?

    - by Daniel Reeves
In Java, I have a package that translates XML metadata from one standard to another. This package is ultimately accessed through a single function and sends all of its output through a PrintStream object. The output sent is just a status of each file and whether or not it was translated. This is pretty fine and dandy if I'm just printing to System.out, but I'm actually wanting to print this to a JTextPane while it translates (kind of like a progress text box). It wouldn't be a big deal to just print the status after it was done translating the XML, but since there may be thousands of XML files, that's just not feasible. One thing that I've tried is to use a thread that takes all of the information from the PrintStream (which is attached to a ByteArrayOutputStream) and let it send any new information to the text pane. Unfortunately, this still sends the information all at once at the end of the translation. This does work correctly for System.out. Here's the code that does the translation and tries to show the output: public class ConverterGUI extends javax.swing.JFrame { boolean printToResultsBox = false; PrintStream printStream = null; ByteArrayOutputStream baos = null; private class ResultsPrinter implements Runnable { public ResultsPrinter() { baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); printStream = new PrintStream(baos); } public void run() { String tempString = ""; while (printToResultsBox) { try { if (!baos.toString().equals(tempString)) { tempString = baos.toString(); resultsBox.setText(tempString); } } catch (Exception ex) { } } } } ... ResultsPrinter rp = new ResultsPrinter(); Thread thread = new Thread(rp); thread.start(); // Do the translation. try { printToResultsBox = true; boolean success = false; TranslationEngine te = new TranslationEngine(); // fileOrFolderToConvert is a text box in the GUI. // linkNeeded and destinationFile are just parameters for the translation process. success = te.translate(fileOrFolderToConvert.getText(), linkNeeded, destinationFile, printStream); if (success) { printStream.println("File/folder translation was a success."); } resultsBox.setText(baos.toString()); } catch (Exception ex) { printStream.println("File translation failed."); } finally { printToResultsBox = false; } ... } Ultimately, this code prints out to the JTextPane just fine after all the translation is done but not during. Any suggestions? Do I need to change the PrintStream to something else?
