  Hi, When i double click a text document, if that text file is more than 1MB(or some specified size) I want that text file to be opened in Notepad++ while the files that are smaller should be opened in notepad itself. Is there any way i can achieve this.? Thanks

  How do I configure the squid to only request text/html to the parent cache; right now I am using : cache_peer 127.0.0.1 parent 8080 0 no-query no-digest on the second hand I get a lot of direct request that do not use the parent proxy: some queries go like FIRST_UP_PARENT and some like DIRECT, how do I tell the squid to always use parent for text/html BTW .. is a transparent proxy I have tried : cache_peer 127.0.0.1 parent 8080 0 no-query no-digest acl elhtml req_mime_type -i ^text/html$ acl elhtml req_mime_type -i text/html cache_peer_access 127.0.0.1 allow elhtml cache_peer_access 127.0.0.1 deny all and it does not works Thanks in advance for the help.

• Ignore mapping when in text input box

  I have AutoHotkey set up in a way that is recognises Cmd-Left and Cmd-Right keystrokes as back/forward navigation in Chrome. Problem is that it also recognises those keys being pressed while I am entering text in textboxes. However when entering text, I'd would like those key combinations to carry out different function - jump to beginning/end of the line, similar to Ctrl-Left/Right. Is there a way to have one mapping working for text boxes and another mapping for everything else in AutoHotkey?

  I have 24" dual monitors with 1920x1080 resolution on both of them. Consequently the text appears so small. I use the following text-intensive applications frequently: Web browser (Google Chrome) IDE (Komodo) Terminal (Gnome Terminal) Email (Thunderbird) I can configure text size on IDE, Terminal and Email. But for Chrome, it is not a good idea to set proportional font size because often one wants to see the entire (not just proportional fonts) site to be zoomed. So I am asking: Is it possible to increase DPI in Ubuntu (much like on Windows) so as to increase the text size across all apps? OR Is it possible to set permanent 'zoom' in Google Chrome, using a third-party extension maybe?

  My Word 2007 spell-check seems to work fine, except that when I paste in text from somewhere else, it won't detect any misspellings in that pasted text...no matter what I try. If it makes any difference, when I paste in text, the formatting is preserved (size color etc). I've tried doing a past-special and trying the different options there, but it's still bringing the formatting over. Any ideas on what to try?

• Windows will not go into standby

  When I select Start-Turn off computer-Standby the 'turn off computer' option window closes, and then nothing else happens. I can start new applications, and Windows acts like I never selected standby. If I have a TV program scheduled to record I get a window asking if I'm sure, there are programs scheduled to record - and the computer just keeps running after I select yes. (If a program is not scheduled then that task in not running/in memory - this problem happens even if I'm not watching TV and no TV scheduling task is running.) This problem happens regardless of whether Media Center is running. Windows XP SP3 Media Center Edition, all current updates installed.

  We use several Word documents as templates and currently include 'guidance' text for the reader - in the form of grey, italic text - to provide guidance to the person completing the document. Note how the grey+italic text is used to provide both guidance and example content Problems with this approach include: People forgetting to delete all of this template/boilerplate text People using the italic+grey formatting when inputting real information because they don't change the style We've considered including Reviewing comments as an alternative but this can be a pain and suffers from the first problem above. I'm not sure a simple, elegant solution exists here but if there's something obvious I'm missing I'd love to hear about it.

• How can I obtain/build a wireless volume knob for Windows?

  I use my computer as a media center and simply love it. It's an older box running XP and it works better than everything else I've tried turning into a media center (Windows 7, Vista, several Linux distros, etc). The only thing I hate is having to walk to my audio amp to turn the volume up or down. I can use the Windows volume slider or any keyboard with keys to control volume. What I'd really love is to have a wireless knob which I can put anywhere when listening to music (e.g. kitchen) which controls the volume. It seems so simple yet I can't find it anywhere. Having controls for pausing and moving to next song would also be terrific. Griffin's Powermate could do the trick but I'd really want it to be wireless. Do you know of something I can buy or build myself to serve this purpose?

  Hi, I have windows 7 installed on my laptop which is a Dell studio XPS 16. I recently set up a second monitor for it. I've noticed that when I load up "full maximisation" applications (I don't know the term) like a game or media center on one monitor, I can't seem to do anything with the other monitor. With the game, I can see the other monitor, I can play a movie on it even, but if I click the mouse button on it, it'll stop the game and alt-tab away. In Media Center, I can't even cross my mouse over the other monitor. So my question is, in Windows 7, is it possible to run programs like this that are designed to be run in one maximised window and still be able to do things on the other window?

  I am now new to scripts but i find it really difficult understanding "for" command (especially with that tokens and delimiters etc) . Saying so, i think that for command can be used to do what i am doing. If its not and there is an easier way, ignore my ignorance :( Say i have multiple lines in a text file abc.txt with each line starting and ending with " (quotes) E.g. a file of 3 lines "hey what is going on @mike220. I am working on your car. Its engine is in very bad condition" "Because if you knew, you'd get shredded and do it with certainty" "@honey220 Do you know someone who has busted their ass on a diet only for results to come to a screeching halt after a few weeks" How can i trim each line, within the quotes, to a Fixed length say 30 or 50 or 100 characters (including spaces) I want to enter the number of character in batch and it can trim accordingly and produce a file def.txt with trimmed lines within quotes. Say i enter 50, results of above example should be "hey what is going on @mike220. I am working on you" "Because if you knew, you'd get shredded and do it" "@honey220 Do you know someone who has busted their" Thanks P.S. if you use For command, kindly please explain the command. EDIT: Though the answer provided worked, there is an issue with non english text. I am getting garbled text in Output file for non english text in input file .   I use Windows 7's command prompt (cmd.exe) for various tasks. In order to copy text from it, I right click and choose Mark, and then mark the text I want to copy. Sometimes while doing this, the marking doesn't stick. The minute I release the left mouse button after marking the text, the marking disappears. This has happened on every Windows 7 installation I've ever installed. How do I solve this?

• Can't select text with mouse in Word / Office 2007

  I'm having a very weird problem here for the last few months. In Word, and in fact all programs from the Office 2007 suite, I can't drag the mouse pointer to select text. I can click at a point in the text and the cursor moves correctly to that point. If I double click, the word under the cursor is selected, and triple clicking selects the whole line. However if I hold the mouse button down and drag the mouse, no text is selected. Occasionally the problem disappears and everything works fine, but it then reappears a few minutes later. Text selection with the mouse works everywhere else (Firefox, PuTTY, OpenOffice), just not in Office. The only addins are Google Desktop Office Addin, and Person Name (). For info it is Office 2007 SP3, running on Windows 7 64-bit.

  I am not sure if this is more suited for Superuser or Stackoverflow, but here goes... A little bit of background: I'm learning SQL and was trying to make a very large table which I could use for optimization tests. Something generic with random values. I created a little Java program to do just that, and was able to put out a text file with 100,000 lines, each line being an SQL INSERT statement for a new random record. However, with anything much bigger than 100,000 lines, I had problems either opening/using the text file in any text editor, or copying/pasting the text to the windows clipboard and then into SQL Developer so I could execute it as a script. I'm probably overlooking something really obvious, or doing something really stupid. There has got to be a better way to do this, but I couldn't find anything through Google or Stackoverflow or Superuser. Thanks!

• How to get rid of large gaps in text in MS Word

  When formatting a document such as a resume, MS Word often inserts a large gap in the text--sometimes as much as half a page of blank space. When I try to delete the gap, moving the cursor from the continued text after the gap, it skips over the gap as if it's not even there, and deletes text from the previous point in the document before the gap. I can't "grab" the gap or highlight/delete the gap in any way. Ideas??

  A friend has requested I convert an Arabic text .pdf into Word. Google Docs does not seem an option but new OCR looked promising because Arabic is featured in the 'Recognition language' dropdown. I have failed to get this to work beyond "Error! Text can not be recognized." even with only a few sample pages (111KB). I'd much appreciate any advice about what I am doing wrong at that site (or even how to access any help available there!) or pointing to other (free!) options that work with Arabic text (preferably that do not require registration and or large downloads). Anyone willing to help please? Note this .pdf does not have a text layer.
