  • Make Text and Images Easier to Read with the Windows 7 Magnifier

    - by DigitalGeekery
Do you have impaired vision or find it difficult to read small print on your computer screen? Today, we’ll take a closer look at how to magnify that hard to read content with the Magnifier in Windows 7. Magnifier was available in previous versions of Windows, but the Windows 7 version comes with some notable improvements. There are now three screen modes in Magnifier. Full Screen and Lens mode, however, require Windows Aero to be enabled. If your computer doesn’t support Aero, or if you’re not using am Aero theme, Magnifier will only work in Docked mode. Using Magnifier in Windows 7 You can find the Magnifier by going to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Ease of Access > Magnifier.   Alternately, you can type magnifier into the Search box in the Start Menu and hit Enter. On the Magnifier toolbar, choose your View mode by clicking Views and choosing from the available options. Clicking the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons will zoom in or zoom out. You can change the zoom in/out percentage by adjusting the slider bar. You can also enable color inversion and select tracking options. Click OK when finished to save your settings.   After a brief period, the Magnifier Toolbar will switch to a magnifying glass icon. Simply click the magnifying glass to display the Magnifier Toolbar again.   Docked Mode In Docked mode, a portion of the screen is magnified and docked at the top of the screen. The rest of your desktop will remain in it’s normal state. You can then control which area of the screen is magnified by moving your mouse.   Full Screen Mode This magnifies your entire screen and follows your mouse as you move it around. If you loose track of where you are on the screen, use the Ctrl + Alt + Spacebar shortcut to preview where your mouse pointer is on the screen.   Lens Mode The Lens screen mode is similar to holding a magnifying glass up to your screen. Full screen mode magnifies the area around the mouse. The magnified area moves around the screen with your mouse.    Shortcut Keys Windows key + (+) to zoom in Windows key + (-) to zoom out Windows key + ESC to exit Ctrl + Alt + F – Full screen mode Ctrl + Alt + L – Lens mode Ctrl + Alt + D – Dock mode Ctrl + Alt + R – Resize the lens Ctrl + Alt + Spacebar – Preview full screen Conclusion Windows Magnifier is a nice little tool if you have impaired vision or just need to make items on the screen easier to read. • Programmatically Setting Text Shadow Properties

    - by Ben Gribaudo
Hello, PowerPoint has two kinds of shadows--shape and text. Shape shadows may be set by right-clicking on a shape (including a text box), choosing Format Text, then selecting Shadow or using VBA via the Shadow property on each shape: For Each Slide In ActivePresentation.Slides For Each Shape In Slide.Shapes Shape.Shadow.Size = 100 'etc Next Next How do I set text shadow's properties using VBA? In the UI, these may be accessed by right-clicking on text, choosing Format Text Effect, then selecting Shadow. I've done a bit of digging online and have been unable to find where these properties may be accessed via PowerPoint's VBA API. Thank you, Ben

  • What are some alternatives to word processing with Markdown?

    - by Hassan
I've used MS Word-style editors for a long time, but I never got used to how unintuitive and cumbersome they are. I'm not talking specifically about MS Word, but also other editors that seem to mimic Word, like OpenOffice, NeoOffice, etc. I've found myself preferring to write in Markdown (much like on this site). I've found a few good Markdown editors, and I like using them a lot more than using Word-style editors. Here is what they generally look like: As you can see, it works much differently than a Word-style editor. This is a generally cleaner way of writing, since formatting is done right in the text, and is extremely simple to use (no highlighting some text, then clicking a button in some menu you have to find). Although editing text this way is great, I've realized that the syntax can only be used for very specific needs (bullets, numbered lists, headings and sub-headings, bold, italic, and some other common ones). However, many features are missing. Here are some features that would be nice in a word processor: Tables. Indenting paragraphs. Good image support (you can link to images, but not add them, since Markdown is just text). More simple to use than Word and its cronies. Cross-platform. Some of these can be fixed with in-line HTML, but nobody wants to do that. It seems Markdown was designed for editing text on the internet. Is there a similar setup that works better for desktop word processors?

  • How to read in text from the visual studio debug output window

    - by Jeremy Bell
I've read several articles that tell you how to add text to the output window in visual studio from within an Add-On (specifically, a visual studio 2008 integration package, via the visual studio 2008 SDK 1.1), but no examples of how to read text from the output window. My goal is to parse text from the debug output window while debugging a certain application (TRACE output and possibly stdin/stdout). The IVsOutputWindowPane interface has no methods for reading in text from the output window. The documentation seems to imply that it is possible, but it doesn't provide an example: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb166236(VS.80).aspx Quote: In addition, the OutputWindow and OutputWindowPane objects add some higher-level functionality to make it easier to enumerate the Output window panes and to retrieve text from the panes. Preferably I'd like to be able to subscribe to an event that fires when a new line of text arrives, similar to a StreamReader's asynchronous reads.

  • Wrap text around an image in rails and prawn

    - by stevenheidel
I have a document with dynamic image and dynamic text and would like the text around the image. The image is right aligned on the landscape page. Here is what I have so far: pdf.bounding_box([0,pdf.bounds.top - 50], :width => pdf.bounds.width, :height => pdf.bounds.height-50) do pdf.text @article.title, :size => 30, :style => :bold pdf.text @article.content, :align => :left # image pdf.bounding_box([pdf.bounds.right - 250, pdf.bounds.top], :width => 250, :height => 250) do pdf.image image_path, :width => 250 end end The text goes right underneath the image. I tried doing this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2085151/ruby-prawn-how-to-wrap-text-around-an-aligned-right-image but it didn't work. Help is appreciated, thanks.

  • Concatenating text in an ASP.NET localized label

    - by James B
Trying to localize text in ASP.NET labels... want to add a ':' after the localized text. I could just add the ':' to the localized text in the resource file, but that seems silly... there should be an easy way to do this. <asp:Label id="RoleTypeLabel" runat="server" Text='<%$ Resources: GS3, RoleTypeLabel %>:' AssociatedControlID="RoleTypeDropDown"></asp:Label> (note the ':' at the end of Text='...') Of course, this doesn't work... and neither does anything I can think of to concatenate a ':' onto the end of the localized text. Anyone know how to do it? TIA, James

  • Using sed for introducing newline after each > in a +1 gigabyte large one-line text file

    - by wasatz
I have a giant text file (about 1,5 gigabyte) with xml data in it. All text in the file is on a single line, and attempting to open it in any text editor (even the ones mentioned in this thread: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/159521/text-editor-to-open-big-giant-huge-large-text-files ) either fails horribly or is totally unusable due to the text editor hanging when attempting to scroll. I was hoping to introduce newlines into the file by using the following sed command sed 's/>/>\n/g' data.xml > data_with_newlines.xml Sadly, this caused sed to give me a segmentation fault. From what I understand, sed reads the file line-by-line which would in this case mean that it attempts to read the entire 1,5 gig file in one line which would most certainly explain the segfault. However, the problem remains. How do I introduce newlines after each in the xml file? Do I have to resort to writing a small program to do this for me by reading the file character-by-character?

  • WinForm Text Control that displays current character/character limit

    - by Refracted Paladin
I need a way to display, like you see in some web apps, the current characters/character limit for a Text Control(i.e. 3/500). I usually see this as a label residing directly above or below the Text Control. How is this 'normally' accomplished? Should I override my Text Control somehow? Do I just manually add labels by every Text Control and 'bind' them to properties of the Text Control? Do I need to create a composite control that has the Text Control & Label Controls together to accomplish what I need? Any direction or help will be greatly appreciated.

  • CSS strikethrough different color from text?

    - by gojomo
The HTML elements del or strike, and the CSS text-decoration property with a value line-through, may all be used for a text strike-through effect. Examples: <del>del</del> ...gives: del <strike>strike</strike> ....gives: strike <span style='text-decoration:line-through'> text-decoration:line-through </span> ...will also look the same as: text-decoration:line-through However, the strikethrough line is typically the same color as the text. Can CSS be used to make the line a different color?

  • Good Administration Center Templates

    - by Alec Smart
Hello, This may not be a programming question per se. But I am wondering what template do you use for your sites/webapps admin centers. Am looking primarily at free templates that give a basic structure. I know I can build my own, but I haven't had too much success in something that works for all my webapps/sites. Wondering if there is something nice and comprehensive available. Thank you for your time.

  • A WPF Image/Text Button

    - by psheriff
Some of our customers are asking us to give them a Windows 8 look and feel for their applications. This includes things like buttons, tiles, application bars, and other features. In this blog post I will describe how to create a button that looks similar to those you will find in a Windows 8 application bar. In Figure 1 you can see two different kinds of buttons. In the top row is a WPF button where the content of the button includes a Border, an Image and a TextBlock. In the bottom row are four...(read more)

  • Inscribe and center an image within a frame

    - by Brennan Roberts
    Given a div of arbitrary aspect ratio, what's the best way to place and style an image (also with an arbitrary aspect ratio) inside such that: It is both inscribed and centered Its dimensions and position are set using relative values so that the image will remain inscribed and centered automatically when the frame is uniformly scaled (javascript should only be required when the image is initially inserted, or if the frame's aspect ratio changes) Extra markup is minimized Here's the result we want: Here's a fiddle template, which is just: Markup Should pillarbox <div class="frame"> <img src="http://www.placekitten.com/200/300" /> </div> Should letterbox <div class="frame"> <img src="http://www.placekitten.com/300/200" /> </div> CSS .frame { width: 200px; height: 200px; border: 2px solid black; margin: 10px 0px 100px 0; }

  • Adjusting the Score on Oracle Text search results

    - by Kyle Hatlestad
When you sort the results of a search by Score using OracleTextSearch as the search engine in WebCenter Content, the results coming back are based on the relevancy on the document.  In theory, the more relevant the search term is to the document, the higher ranked Score it should receive.  But in practice, the relevancy score can seem somewhat of a mystery.  It's not entirely clear how it ranks the importance of some documents over others based on the search term.  And often times, once a word appears a certain number of times within a document, the Score simply maxes out at 100 and the top results can be difficult to discern from one another.  Take for example the search for 'vacation' on this set of documents:  [Read More]
