• Intellij-Idea: Marking all files of unknown type as text (so that they are searchable)

  Many of my scripts etc in intellij are marked with a question mark. Then when I click on them them it prompts me: The file "bla" cannot be associated with a registered file type. Please choose one: <insert table of file choices> This would not matter except the files are not searchable (with ctrl-shift-n) until they are marked as text. This is a major problem for me. I have an enormous code base and I don't want to mark all of the unknown files as text. Is there anyway that I can do that?

• weird characters displayed during serial communication OSX

  I have tried communicating via serial (OSX w/ prolific drivers - USB RS232 adapter - Tx,Rx and GND pins on device serial ttl port) to a device and done so successfully using screen /dev/tty.usbserial 115200 8N1 I get to log in and use it as if I was SSH or TelNetted in... However whenever I try to go into system recovery mode (holding CTRL+1) while the device is powering on, it starts displaying weird characters and until I close the screen session it will continue showing weird characters: Of course when we tried doing the same thing on my boss' macbook running windows and PuTTY and everything worked fine, even in system recovery mode; characters were displayed properly. What gives? Id like to learn the intuition to use because up till now I concluded that since I can bot into the system and see characters normally everything about the connection should be fine and its must have been the recovery partition that was broken. • How to set AeDebug to get a minidump with the name of the process ?

  I have to perform some post mortem debugging on a C++ project. Known way to perform is to set the cdb debugger as a minidump generator and to process the dumps collects afterwards. I read nearly the whole web and I didn't find a solution to produce a minidump with the name of the process that has crashed Is there a way to set AeDebug\Debugger registry variable in such a manner that cdb generates a dump file with the name of the process ? When I encapsulate the call to cdb.exe in a batch file, it starts well but stays blocked on the symbol searching. I must perform a Ctrl+C in order to stop the batch, then the minidump, with the correct process name, is created... but of course I can't set up such a thing in an unattended production environment... Has anybody done that before ?

  One particular problem I was having was using ${word_selection} in an Eclipse PDT template. I was recently trying to use some code templates with Eclipse PDT 2.1 to speed up some common tasks. We use a lot of getters/setters, so I wrote the following template. function get${word_selection}() { return $$this->getData('${word_selection}'); } function set${word_selection}($$${word_selection}) { $$this->setData('${word_selection}', $$${word_selection}); } I named the template "getset" and the only way I know to use the Code Assist is to type: "getset" then hit my code assist keys (I have it set to Esc, but I think the default was Ctrl+Space). The problem is, this doesn't actually let me select a word to be used by the ${word_selection}. how do I type in my template name, hit the key combo, and have a word selected all at the same time? I also want to know what kinds of templates people have set up and any other tips for using templates to speed of programming.

  If I have a console application, is there any way I can handle the following: Ctrl-C (I know the answer to this. Using Console.TreatControlCAsInput and Console.CancelKeyPress) Session termination, such as when someone logs off Process exit, such as when someone uses the task manager to close the application. I know that if I was writing a unix application, I would handle various signals to catch the request to close (SIGTERM from memory), but I also know I need to handle these messages pretty quickly and exit before the system does a kill -9 (SIGKILL). But for a C# console application, I'm not sure how to do this.

  If a mouse has other buttons in addition to the standard left/right/middle (e.g. forward/back), how can we detect those button clicks in Delphi? An example of how this is used is the Internet Explorer, where the forward/back button on the side of a Logitech or MS mouse cycles forward and back between any loaded web pages. This seems to replicate the Backspace/CTRL+Backspace on the keyboard but I tried to detect that using KeyPreview and the KeyPress event but it does not pick it up. Any idea how to detect clicks on these extended mouse buttons?

• Mac OS X bash prompt bug?

  I am trying to set my bash prompt to display the time and current directory in bold: export PS1="\[\e[1m\][\A] \w \$ \[\e[0m\]" This does apparently work, but when I use the command history (ctrl-r), after finding the command I was searching for and pressing enter, this line is not displayed correctly. Here is an example: [21:58] ~/Wyona/svn-repos/zwischengas $ (reverse-i-search)`ta': tail -F logs/log4j-cnode1.log becomes, after pressing enter: [21:58] ~/Wyona/svn-repos/zwischengas $ -F logs/log4j-cnode1.log Of course, this is not "really" a problem, since the command does work correctly, but it is still annoying. Does anybody know why this happens? And, more importantly, how to prevent/fix it? Thanks, Memo

  I need to quit firefox and restart it in order for the applet to be refreshed... its anoying since i'm still programming it an the class files changes... am i missing some codes which makes it unable to refresh the applet and still take the one from the cache??? So I have a .jar applet in my website, a simulation game that spawns army whenever user clicks on the screen... however whenever I refresh the page, the previous army are still there on the screen.. I want it to be refreshed (as if we're just starting to run the application the first time). I already tried pressing CTRL+f5 but the trick doesn't seem to work I'd basically like to do it automatically using scripts or something, so that it won't require user to manually press some button on the keyboard Any Suggestions?   Hello all, I would like to embed the great Bottle web framework into a small application (1st target is Windows OS). This app starts the bottle webserver thanks to the subprocess module. import subprocess p = subprocess.Popen('python websrv.py') The bottle app is quite simple @route("/") def index(): return template('index') run(reloader=True) It starts the default webserver into a Windows console. All seems Ok except the fact that I must press Ctrl-C to close the bottle webserver. I would like that the master app terminates the webserver when it shutdowns. I can't find a way to do that (p.terminate() doesn't work in this case unfortunately) Any idea? Thanks in advance

• Changing drag cursor in VirtualTreeView

  When using VirtualTreeView drag operation by default is [doCopy,doMove]. Move operation is indicated by arrow pointer with small box and Copy operation is indicated by same pointer icon but with added [+] next to it. By default VT uses copy operation and if you press modifier key (SHIFT key) it modifies operation to move therefore removing the [+] from pointer. Here is what I need: reverse the operations (default would be move, with modifier key pressed - copy) and thus reverse pointer arrow too replace modifier key - CTRL instead of SHIFT read in an event which of the two operations occurred and start copy or move operation Any pointers into right direction(s) appreciated.

• Problem installing RVM...

  I have executed the commands as prescribed in the instructions at the rvm website but things don't seem to work.. Fetching the code from the git repository runs smoothly but when I try to use rvm notes Error: /usr/local/bin/rvm: line 73: /home/cody/.rvm/scripts/rvm: No such file or directory flashes in multiple lines and doesn't stop till I hit ctrl+C.. I am running Ubuntu 8.04 and currently I am running ruby 1.9.2.. Sorry, if I am missing out any necessary information. Thanks in advance.

  hi all friends I meet a problem yestoday...maybe it's becoz it is april 1st... but it did exist. here i begin clarifying: i have 3 pcs in remote area..2 clients and 1 oracle server.. my app is running seperately in the two clients hourly connecting to the oracles,,my clients worked well be4 April 1th, but suddenly my app in the clients mechines went down...first i did not change any configurations.... i used libsqlora8 to connect the server...I went into a dead loop in the library...I tried sqlplus, but it dead there in my shell terminal, like it meets a infinite loop....no return until i pressed ctrl + c, the reason i guess is "infinite loop" somewhere..... btw, when i used my local pc to connect the server, it worked well...just from this phenomenon, wen can see the is problems lie in the client mechines..and i check the configuration file both in local mechine and client mechines..they are identical have you met a problem like this.... I dont hope it's frank of April 1st

• Custom format document option in visual studio. Formatting CSS tags.

  Hi, When i work in VS2008, i use the Ctrl+K+D very often as it saves a lot of time. But in CSS files, this command formats the document in a way i don't quite like. For example when i auto format the document, .Foo { width:1px; height:2px; } However, i like to format tags this way, as it is much more easy to read (in my opinion): .Foo { width:1px; height:2px; } So, are there any way that i can implement this ? The "Tag specific options" feature seems to be the thing that i need, but i am not quite sure how to do this. Thanks.

• With VIM, use both snipMate and pydiction together (share the <tab> key?)

  I am trying to use snipMate and pydiction in vim together - however, both use the <tab> key to perform their genius-auto-completion-snippet-rendering-goodness-that-I-so-desire. When pydiction is installed, snipMate stops working. I assume its because they can't both own the <tab> key. How can I get them to work together? I wouldn't mind mapping one of them to a different key, but I am not really sure how to do this ... (maybe pydiction to the <ctrl-n> key so it mimics vim's autocomplete?). • IntelliJ IDEA non standard caret behaviour

  I have an issue with IntelliJ IDEA when selecting a big amount of text, and I cannot find the parameter to set to change that. Here is an example of the situation: My caret is on line 3 I scroll with the mouse wheel towards line 300 I press ctrl + shift I press the left button of the mouse Such an action would result in the text from line 3 to 300 being selected in all common editors (even in MS-Word I think), but not in IntelliJ. Do you know how to set this right? Thanks!

• Emacs on Windows: how to protect built-in el files from being accidentally edited

  On Linux, they are all read only, so no problem. But on MS Windows, what happens is like this: I get curious about the definition of the command isearch-forward, I type C-h f isearch-forward and click on the link isearch.el from the help to get to the definition of the function, and while I am reading its definition, I press C-h or C-c many times, but I set Caps Lock as another Ctrl key, so sometimes it happens that I release Caps Lock too early, in which case C-h or C-c becomes inserting h or c, sometimes I notice that and undo it, but sometimes I don't notice it, and I even save them all with C-x s. What is a good way to protect the built-in el files from me on MS Windows?

• Frameset frame cached by Firefox

  Hi, I have a html page which contains nested frameset (don't ask why, I'm only servicing the app ;) ). What bothers me, is why FF caches Header.htm file constantly. I had to use clear cache to force browser to download it again. ctrl+f5 didn't help. <frameset rows="68,*" border="0" frameborder="no" framespacing="0"> <frame name="header" src="/Header.htm" scrolling="no" noresize> <frame name="footer" src="/Login.aspx?w=<% =company %>&amp;loc=<% =ccdom %>"> </frameset> Any ideas what is responsible for that behaviour?   I use the tab key to indent my python code in Vim, but whenever I copy and paste a block Vim replaces every tab with 4 spaces, which raises an IndentationError I tried setting :set paste as suggested in related questions but it makes no difference Other sites suggest pasting 'tabless' code and using the visual editor to re-indent, but this is asking for trouble when it comes to large blocks Are there any settings I can apply to vim to maintain tabs on copy/paste? • Make page to tell browser not to cache/preserve input values

  Most browser cache form input values. So when user refreshes page, the inputs have same values. Here's my problem. When user clicks Save, server validates POSTed data (e.g. checked products), and if not valid, sends it back to browser. However, as stated above, even if server clears selection for some values, they may still be selected because of browser cache! My data has invisible (until parent item selected) checkboxes, so user may be even not aware that some previous value is still selected, until clicks Save again and gets error message - even though user thinks it's not. Which is irritating. This can be resolved by doing Ctrl-F5, but it's not even a solution.Is there automatic/programmatic way to tell browser not to cache form input data on some form/page?
