  • Android - Transforming widgets within transformed widgets and the resulting usability issues.

    Hello. I'm new to Android application development and I'm currently experimenting with various UI ideas. In the image below, you can see a vertically scrolling list of horizontally scrolling galleries (and also textviews as you can see). I'm also doing some matrix and camera transformations which I will come to in a minute. For the background of the list elements, I use green. Blue is the background of the galleries, and red is the background for the images. These are just for my benefit of learning. The galleries being used are extended classes where I overrode the drawChild method to perform a canvas scale operation in order for the image closest to the center (width) to be larger than the others. The list view going vertically, I overrode the drawChild method and used the camera rotations from lack of depth dimension in the canvas functionality. The items in the list are scaled down and rotated relative to their position's proximity to the center (height). I understood that scrolling and clicking would not necessarily follow along with the image transforms, but it appears as though the parent Gallery class's drawing is constrained to the original coordinates as well (see photo below). I would love to hear any insight any of you have regarding how I can change the coordinates of the galleries in what is rendered via gallery scroll and the touch responsiveness of said gallery. Images in the gallery are not same dimensions, so don't let that throw you in looking at the image below Thanks in advance! Ben link to image (could not embed) -- Update: I was using my test application UI and noticed that when I got the UI to the point of the linked image and then I touched the top portion of the next row in the list, the gallery updated to display the proper representation. So, I added a call to clearFocus() in the drawChild method and that resulted in more accurate drawing. It does seem a tad slower, and since I'm on the Incredible, I'm worried it is a bloated solution. In any event, I would still appreciate any thoughts you have regarding the best way to have the views display properly and how to translate the touch events in the gallery's new displayed area to its touchable coordinates so that scrolling on the actual images works when the gallery has moved. When the user takes a picture, the phone plays the familiar camera shutter sound. How can I replace this with my own custom sound? If I create and use this camera, and set LEFT,TOP to 0 and WIDTH=256 and HEIGHT=240, anything I render to the screen will use these coordinates? So a box with a width and height of 1, if set to 0,0 will take up space from 0,0 to 1,1?

  • License plate recognition

    As a side-project I'm trying to create an app that scans license plates from passing cars from my living-room window. I have hooked up a high resolution camera to my system to capture (moving) images into my c# app. Now all I need is a way to interpret these images into something readable. I´m thinking about some sort of OCR-solution that is fast/accurate enough for moving images. Hope you can give me some direction!

    Hello everyone, Is there a possibility to take a picture using phone's camera without user interaction? I'd like to write a short app that only takes sequence of pictures and the user should be able to set number of pictures, location, quality and time between shots. After starting the app should take pictures without further interaction. This program should for examlple take a sequence of 250 pictures of moving clouds so I could make a ten second movie from those pics. Greeting and sorry for my english ;)

  • how to get gateway address

    I am trying to get gateway address but when i call "route -n" I expect to see something like that Destination Gateway Genmask Flags 0.0.0.0 dnsip 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 eth0 but I only see the flag U ones and gateway ip is 0.0.0.0. When i look /etc/sysconfig/network/routes i can see the gateway address. I can not use that file because not every versions of open suse have that file. So i need to use a common way to find out the gateway addres.

  • How to connect devices behind Comcast router/modem with devices behind wireless router

    I know this is going to seem like a simple solution but I have been unable to find a clear answer through Google. Simple office setup: I have a Comcast modem/router that has 4 hard wired ports. In one of those ports I have a Cisco wireless router which also has 4 of its own ports. What is the method for getting devices behind the modem/router to ping/communicate with devices behind the wireless router? They are all on the same subnet but the IP ranges differ. The router produces 192.168.1.1 by default while the Comcast modem/router produces 10.1.10.1 by default. I think what I'm attempting to do might be considered "extending" the modem/router's network but I'm not sure. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

    I'm having a complete 'mare of a time trying to use my schools Digital Blue cameras. We've got the model 3 ones, but can't find the driver disc and using the Windows Hardware Installation Wizard gets me no where! Can you help me to find the driver? When I've used it at my old school it had a piece of software called the Digital Movie Creator, which I've heard you can use to make stop-motion films, which is what I want to do!   • Can fragments of a packet be refragmented again?

    In IPv4, fragmentation is done by routers on way to the destination if DF(do not fragment) flag is not set in the IP packet. Once a packet is fragmented, its fragments may take different paths (due to various reasons like topology changes) to the destination. If, on some link again in the path to destination, one routers find that the link MTU is smaller than the frame size, then either the packet needs to be fragmented or dropped. Can fragments of a packet be refragmented again? If yes, what will be the value of MF flag in the new individual fragments created by this?

  • NAT for Sprint Nexus S "Portable Wi-Fi hotspot"

    I am on a 2010 Macbook Air connected to the web over wifi tethering on my Sprint Nexus S. I want to be able to host a few files using MAMP, but it seems that Sprint is running a NAT. When I query checkip.dyndns.org right now, it returns 68.27.228.75. However, trying to navigate to that IP fails (even though I do have MAMP's Apache running on port 80, as verified via loopback). When I whois 68.27.228.75, it appears to be a Sprint address, with NetName "SPRINTPCS" and OrgName "Sprint Nextel Corporation". So, is there some way I can circumvent Sprint's NAT to allow people to connect to my server that is running on a Nexus S Portable Wi-Fi hotspot?

    I want to disable the "NetBIOS over TCP/IP" device in the device manager to free port 445. But after doing that my Internet stops working. I'm connected to a WLan router using DHCP on WinXP, and it is stuck forever in the "acquire network address" step. Why does it misbehave like that? I don't need NetBIOS!

  • TCP/IP networking working as expected, but can't access Windows Shares

    I am trying to fix a Windows 7 Pro SP1 (32 bits) computer. I have a weird problem. It was working fine until two days ago (didn't do anything weird in that day), and suddenly windows network (accessing to Windows Shares, sharing my printer) stopped working. TCP/IP networks words without issues, since I can IM, use the WebBrowser, check my email, you name it. Any ideas on how could I attempt to fix this?

  • Baidu spider is hammering my server and bloating my error_log file

I have done an IP trace on the client address to find that it belongs to something called baidu. Beijing Baidu Netcom Science and Technology Co in China. Is there a way that I can just get apache to deny any incoming requests from some crummy spider that is repeatedly hitting my site??? Is there a better way of dealing with the problem? I am happy to completely block out China if it means that I can actually track real errors.
