  • LaserJet M1522nF firmware was corrupted during the update

    I have a LaserJet M1522nF, and the problem when I working on is that it is freezing every time so I decide to update the firmware. During the updating the device was down because of electricity so I turned it on again and there is a message on the small screen saing HEWLETT-PACKARD After nothing appeared on screen the device seems to be blocked or the firmware was corrupted. Now, how can I reset the update of firmware or how can I reinstall it?

    Hello I'm looking for computer cases that don't look like regular PC's in case customers would like to keep it on their desktop so it has to look stylish. I liked the Cobalt Cube: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cobalt_Qube Does someone know if some company makes cases that look the same (I know about Shuttle : they're too pricey), and possibly one that has a really quiet power supply?   • Computer not working, motherboard is suspect

    I have a problem with my computer. I have a GeForce 6100 M9 Motherboard, which I suspect is broke. The capacitors beside the CPU are corroded and the computer doesn't do anything except start the fans when I push the power button. The problem is that I can't find another motherboard as they apparently don't sell this model anymore. I have tested the Power Supply and it appears to be working. Any advice would be appreciated. Different forums have mentioned that you can replace the capacitors. Any help on this would be appreciated.

  • How would you diagnose an integrated network card that doesn't show up on the device list?

    I've been setting up a server based around a Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R motherboard (G33, PCH9R with integrated Realtek 811B network device. I've enabled it in the BIOS, but it doesn't show up in the pre-boot PCI device list, isn't recognized by Windows (even after installing the chipset and networking drivers) and doesn't even show up via lspci. I've tried cycling power, disabling, cycling again, enabling, cycling again etc. to no avail. I'm sort of at a loss at this point; the board isn't under warranty anymore, but I'd rather not have to replace it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

  • Determine Server specs for a Rails with MySQL database (on AWS)

    I developed a intranet applications with Rails (3.2) for one of my customers. There will be around 30-40 employees working with it. Backend is MySQL (5). What would be the best way to determine the servers specs needed? Given: max. load will be roughly 2400 (40*60) HTTP requests (mixed GET / POST) per hour. 15% of these calls are JSON calls (iOS) avg request will make between 5-10 database calls 500-800 SQL INSERTS per day webpages are fairly simple (no images, just text) avg webpage is 15 request (css/js/etc) and total size is 35-45 KB More specific, since they need access from multiple geographical locations, we are thinking of running a bitnami Ruby stack in the AWS cloud (uptime is important). Any thoughts on a AWS Instance (small/medium) and Utilization (light/medium/heavy) ? Thanks!

    I recently acquired an HP Z800 workstation that has five 300 GB 15K SAS Drives. This system will be dedicated to running multiple virtual machines under VMware Workstation (Note: I'm not using ESXi because I do plan to use the system for other purposes.). For the host OS, I plan to install RHEL 5. My number one concern is guest performance. For example, should I create a RAID 10 array for the OS and virtual machine storage with four of the drives and reserve the 5th? Or, is there a solution that will provide better performance?

  • Issue with Capslock key on Laptop

    For some reason my laptop has a mind of its own and the Caps Lock tends to come on whenever it feels like it. I thought it was an software issue from that reasoning, but I later cleared the OS and then reinstalled it hoping to fix the problem, but it didn't. Not only does it do that it also comes on and off whenever the letters A, S, and left shift key are pushed. So I assummed it was a keyboard issue and that the keyboard needs to be replaced, but it has one of those touch pad cap lock buttons also, because even when I press that button it tends to not react. So how can that be fixed with a keyboard replacement or is that connected still?   • Problem with usb wireless mouse

    Recently I have started having problems with my wireless mouse (Wireless Optical Mouse MI-4910D). Sometimes when I start my PC or during a game the pointer/arrow stops moving. When the PC boots the pointer is locked in the center of the screen. If I'm lucky it helps to change the USB wireless adapter from port 1 to port 2 but sometimes this trick doesn't work and I have to restart my PC to get the mouse to work again. Like you can see in the product web page this mouse don't have a driver but only a tool to solve some problems.   • What are these CPU cache settings? Snoop Filter, ACL prefetch, HW prefetch

    I was in my BIOS setup turning on VT-x support today and saw these other settings. A little googling indicates that they each seem to turn on some sort of optimization to do with the CPU's L2 cache. They were all turned off by default. The processor in question is an Intel Xeon quad-core 3.4GHz (X5492). My OS is Linux 2.6.35.10-74.fc14.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Dec 23 16:04:50 UTC 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux. I have 4GB of RAM if that matters. Here's what the BIOS manufacturer has to say: Snoop Filter Enabling the snoop filter typically improves performance by reducing snoop traffic on the frontside bus in dual processor configurations. Well I like the sound of improved performance. Why would the BIOS have this off by default? Or by dual processor do they not mean multi-core? Regardless, is there a downside if this is on? ACL Prefetch When enabled, the Adjacent Cache Line Prefetcher fetches both cache lines that comprise a cache line pair when it determines required data is not currently in its cache. When disabled, the processor will only fetch the cache line required by the processor. HW Prefetch Fetches an extra line of data into L2 from external memory. Both of these sound like optimizations that have some drawbacks. What are the reasons to turn them on? What are the reasons to leave them off. Why is the default off?

  • What is the difference between these Pentium Extreme Edition CPUs?

    The CPU in question is the Pentium Extreme Edition 955. Intel's website shows four "versions", but for the most part they all look identical. They even share the same set of ordering codes. But one of them has a substantially lower TDP, which is seemingly unexplainable - since everything else is the same. Two of them say "LGA775, Tray" and I have no idea what "Tray" means either. Also, two of them have a different SPEC code. What I need to know is: What does "LGA775, Tray" mean? Why does the one CPU have a lower TDP? And what does that mean for me? Does that mean lower maximum power consumption? Does it mean the CPU may be more stable/endurant, because of a lower heat output? Why do two of them have a different SPEC code, and what does this mean? Finally, what does PLGA775 (as opposed to LGA775) mean, and do I need to be worried about that?     So I recently made some purchases for a new computer including: Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R CPU : Intel Core2Quad 2.66Ghz Power Supply: Antec Basiq 500w UPDATE: I got the Power Supply working, the motherboard's lights come on, the video card fan spins, BUT the CPU fan does NOT spin and there is no video. Whats the possibility of lacking power? In the mobo guide it says the use of a power supply providing a 2x4 12V connector is recommended (I do not have this connector) by the CPU manufacturer when using an Intel Extreme Edition (I'm using Core2Quad) UPDATE: Got it working, intstalling windows 7 now.   • PC reboots spontaenously: debugging tips

    I swapped my core 2 duo for a quad core recently, and generally things run fine, but every now and then my computer just restarts. I don't even get a blue screen (Vista 32). Core temp isn't a problem. My thinking is that my power supply is inadequate, but I haven't been able to test that (one idea was to under clock the cpu to see if that helped, but going up in speed was the only simple thing to do in the BIOS) Two cases where I semi-consistanly get problems: - Borderlands windowed after some period of time (and some other games, but Borderlands does it pretty regularly) - watching a video (e.g. quicktime/vlc) and having another video running Another thought is non-cpu heat? Maybe the graphics card? Any thoughts on how to track this down appreciated. Thanks!

  • FreeBSD after motherboard replacement; should I have any concerns?

    So after three years my motherboard (Asus M2N-0MX) has died off. As I go shopping for i's replacement tomorrow I have a concern about the data that I currently have on the drives wtihin. I'm currently running BSD 6.2, and am wondering if there would be any concern with installing a new OS on that system, would it be better to jsut install the latest BSD version, and are their any pitfalls that I should watch for to make sure I don't end up losing 750gb's of data. The setup consists of the following(to the best of my knowledge): Pioneer DVD drive 3ware RAID card four 250gb SATA drives in RAID 5 config thanks to anyone that can offer some advice, or just to confirm if I am over thinking things.
