  • django-avatar: cant save thumbnail

    - by Znack
    I'm use django-avatar app and can't make it to save thumbnails. The original image save normally in my media dir. Using the step execution showed that error occurred here image.save(thumb, settings.AVATAR_THUMB_FORMAT, quality=quality) I found this line in create_thumbnail: def create_thumbnail(self, size, quality=None): # invalidate the cache of the thumbnail with the given size first invalidate_cache(self.user, size) try: orig = self.avatar.storage.open(self.avatar.name, 'rb') image = Image.open(orig) quality = quality or settings.AVATAR_THUMB_QUALITY w, h = image.size if w != size or h != size: if w > h: diff = int((w - h) / 2) image = image.crop((diff, 0, w - diff, h)) else: diff = int((h - w) / 2) image = image.crop((0, diff, w, h - diff)) if image.mode != "RGB": image = image.convert("RGB") image = image.resize((size, size), settings.AVATAR_RESIZE_METHOD) thumb = six.BytesIO() image.save(thumb, settings.AVATAR_THUMB_FORMAT, quality=quality) thumb_file = ContentFile(thumb.getvalue()) else: thumb_file = File(orig) thumb = self.avatar.storage.save(self.avatar_name(size), thumb_file) except IOError: return # What should we do here? Render a "sorry, didn't work" img? maybe all I need is just some library? Thanks

  • How to simplify the code?

    - by Tattat
I have objectA, and objectB.... also I have objectAs, and objectBs. the objectA is only have the init method, and ObjectAs have somethings like this: #import "ObjectAs.h" @implementation ObjectAs @synthesize objectAs; -(id) init{ if( (self=[super init])) { self.objectAs = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; } return self; } -(int)getObjectAsNumber{ return [self.objectAs count]; } -(void)addObjectA:(ObjectA *)newObjectA{ [self.objectAs addObject:newObjectA]; } -(id)getObjectAByIdx:(int)objectAIdx{ return [self.objectAs objectAtIndex:objectAIdx]; } -(void)dealloc{ [super dealloc]; [objectAs release]; } @end The objectBs have similar have, I know that I can copy and paste, and replace it. Is there any way to simplify the objectBs, and objectAs? thz a lot.

  • Issue when rotating a UIScrollView

    - by leachianus.gecko
    I am having issues trying to get the pageControl sample code to work with rotation. I managed to get it to rotate but it does not visually load correctly until I start to scroll (then it works fine). Any Idea on how I can fix this problem? Here is a link to the project if you want to see it in action. This code is based off the PageControl example apple has provided. here is the code: #import "ScrollingViewController.h" #import "MyViewController.h" @interface ScrollingViewController (PrivateMethods) - (void)loadScrollViewWithPage:(int)page; @end @implementation ScrollingViewController @synthesize scrollView; @synthesize viewControllers; - (void)viewDidLoad { amount = 5; [super viewDidLoad]; [self setupPage]; } - (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning { [super didReceiveMemoryWarning]; } - (void)viewDidUnload { [scrollView release]; } - (void)dealloc { [super dealloc]; } - (void)setupPage { NSMutableArray *controllers = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; for (unsigned i = 0; i < amount; i++) { [controllers addObject:[NSNull null]]; } self.viewControllers = controllers; [controllers release]; // a page is the width of the scroll view scrollView.pagingEnabled = YES; scrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(scrollView.frame.size.width * amount, 200); scrollView.showsHorizontalScrollIndicator = NO; scrollView.showsVerticalScrollIndicator = NO; scrollView.scrollsToTop = NO; scrollView.delegate = self; [self loadScrollViewWithPage:0]; [self loadScrollViewWithPage:1]; } #pragma mark - #pragma mark UIScrollViewDelegate stuff - (void)scrollViewDidScroll:(UIScrollView *)_scrollView { if (pageControlIsChangingPage) { return; } /* * We switch page at 50% across */ CGFloat pageWidth = _scrollView.frame.size.width; int dog = floor((_scrollView.contentOffset.x - pageWidth / 2) / pageWidth) + 1; // pageControl.currentPage = page; [self loadScrollViewWithPage:dog - 1]; [self loadScrollViewWithPage:dog]; [self loadScrollViewWithPage:dog + 1]; } - (void)loadScrollViewWithPage:(int)page { if (page < 0) return; if (page >= amount) return; MyViewController *controller = [viewControllers objectAtIndex:page]; if ((NSNull *)controller == [NSNull null]) { controller = [[MyViewController alloc] initWithPageNumber:page]; [viewControllers replaceObjectAtIndex:page withObject:controller]; [controller release]; } if (nil == controller.view.superview) { CGRect frame = scrollView.frame; frame.origin.x = frame.size.width * page; frame.origin.y = 0; controller.view.frame = frame; [scrollView addSubview:controller.view]; } } - (void)didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)fromInterfaceOrientation { [self setupPage]; } - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { // Return YES for supported orientations return YES; } @end

  • Odd Segue Behaviour - Not Firing

    - by Zak
So I've noticed some very weird behaviour from my program. Here's a simplified code snippet and then I'll explain what occurs when built and ran. -(void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; ... if (self.sampleBool) { [self performSegueWithIdentifier:@"mySegue" sender:self]; } else { // do stuff } } ... -(IBAction)myMethod:(UITapGestureRecognizer*)sender { ... [self performSegueWithIdentifier:@"mySegue" sender:self]; } The segue triggers via the UITapGestureRecognizer fine - so I know the segue is linked correctly. However, when self.sampleBool is true and performSegueWithIdentifier is called within viewDidLoad, the segue does not fire. Anyone have any guesses? Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks

  • Creating interruptible process in python

    - by Glycerine
I'm creating a python script of which parses a large (but simple) CSV. It'll take some time to process. I would like the ability to interrupt the parsing of the CSV so I can continue at a later stage. Currently I have this - of which lives in a larger class: (unfinished) Edit: I have some changed code. But the system will parse over 3 million rows. def parseData(self) reader = csv.reader(open(self.file)) for id, title, disc in reader: print "%-5s %-50s %s" % (id, title, disc) l = LegacyData() l.old_id = int(id) l.name = title l.disc_number = disc l.parsed = False l.save() This is the old code. def parseData(self): #first line start fields = self.data.next() for row in self.data: items = zip(fields, row) item = {} for (name, value) in items: item[name] = value.strip() self.save(item) Thanks guys.

  • iPhone: increasing size of view frame in a UItabbarcontroller?

    - by dpigera
I currently have a UITabBarController defined, with the tab bar moved a few pixels down to make it thinner: self.tabBarController = [[UITabBarController alloc] init]; self.tabBarController.tabBar.frame=CGRectMake(0,self.window.bounds.size.height-38.5,self.window.bounds.size.width,50); [self.window addSubview:self.tabBarController.view]; I then have a UIViewController object assigned to the first tab using: Home *home = [[Home alloc] initWithNibName:@"Home" bundle:nil]; UINavigationController *nHome = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:home]; nHome.tabBarItem.image=[UIImage imageNamed:@"home.png"]; [tabBarController setViewControllers:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:nHome, nil]]; As a result, there is a thin sliver of space between the tabbarcontroller and the view. Can someone please tell me how I can get rid of this space?

  • Creating NSApp inside another nsviewcontroller

    - by DesperateLearner
I have opened my mac app in a new nsviewcontroller - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(NSNotification *)aNotification { self.masterViewController = [[MasterViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"MasterViewController" bundle:nil]; [self.window.contentView addSubview:self.masterViewController.view]; self.masterViewController.view.frame = ((NSView*)self.window.contentView).bounds; } Masterviewcontroller has a customized view in the .xib file. When I need to create an NSApp sheet in this NSViewController for another, I'm calling [NSApp beginSheet:_newDataWindow modalForWindow:window modalDelegate:self didEndSelector:nil contextInfo:nil]; I have to use 'window' for beginSheetModalForWindow. But how do I call it from another NSViewController. I end up with compilation error.

  • Any method to denote object assignment?

    - by Droogans
I've been studying magic methods in Python, and have been wondering if there's a way to outline the specific action of: a = MyClass(*params).method() versus: MyClass(*params).method() In the sense that, perhaps, I may want to return a list that has been split on the '\n' character, versus dumping the raw list into the variable a that keeps the '\n' intact. Is there a way to ask Python if its next action is about to return a value to a variable, and change action, if that's the case? I was thinking: class MyClass(object): def __init__(*params): self.end = self.method(*params) def __asgn__(self): return self.method(*params).split('\n') def __str__(self): """this is the fallback if __asgn__ is not called""" return self.method(*params)

  • Deleting files associated with model - django

I have the following code in one of my models class PostImage(models.Model): post = models.ForeignKey(Post, related_name="images") # @@@@ figure out a way to have image folders per user... image = models.ImageField(upload_to='images') image_infowindow = models.ImageField(upload_to='images') image_thumb = models.ImageField(upload_to='images') image_web = models.ImageField(upload_to='images') description = models.CharField(max_length=100) order = models.IntegerField(null=True) IMAGE_SIZES = { 'image_infowindow':(70,70), 'image_thumb':(100,100), 'image_web':(640,480), } def delete(self, *args, **kwargs): # delete files.. self.image.delete(save=False) self.image_thumb.delete(save=False) self.image_web.delete(save=False) self.image_infowindow.delete(save=False) super(PostImage, self).delete(*args, **kwargs) I am trying to delete the files when the delete() method is called on PostImage. However, the files are not being removed. As you can see, I am overriding the delete() method, and deleting each ImageField. For some reason however, the files are not being removed.

  • Axis Aligned Billboard: how to make the object look at camera

    - by user19787
I am trying to make an Axis Aligned Billboard with Pyglet. I have looked at several tutorials, but they only show me how to get the Up,Right, and Look vectors. So far this is what I have: target = cam.pos look = norm( target - billboard.pos ) right = norm( Vector3(0,1,0)*look ) up = look*right gluLookAt( look.x, look.y, look.z, self.pos.x, self.pos.y, self.pos.z, up.x, up.y, up.z ) This does nothing for me visibly. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

  • Laissez les bon temps rouler! (Microsoft BI Conference 2010)

    - by smisner
"Laissez les bons temps rouler" is a Cajun phrase that I heard frequently when I lived in New Orleans in the mid-1990s. It means "Let the good times roll!" and encapsulates a feeling of happy expectation. As I met with many of my peers and new acquaintances at the Microsoft BI Conference last week, this phrase kept running through my mind as people spoke about their plans in their respective businesses, the benefits and opportunities that the recent releases in the BI stack are providing, and their expectations about the future of the BI stack. Notwithstanding some jabs here and there to point out the platform is neither perfect now nor will be anytime soon (along with admissions that the competitors are also not perfect), and notwithstanding several missteps by the event organizers (which I don't care to enumerate), the overarching mood at the conference was positive. It was a refreshing change from the doom and gloom hovering over several conferences that I attended in 2009. Although many people expect economic hardships to continue over the coming year or so, everyone I know in the BI field is busier than ever and expects to stay busy for quite a while. Self-Service BI Self-service was definitely a theme of the BI conference. In the keynote, Ted Kummert opened with a look back to a fairy tale vision of self-service BI that he told in 2008. At that time, the fairy tale future was a time when "every end user was able to use BI technologies within their job in order to move forward more effectively" and transitioned to the present time in which SQL Server 2008 R2, Office 2010, and SharePoint 2010 are available to deliver managed self-service BI. This set of technologies is presumably poised to address the needs of the 80% of users that Kummert said do not use BI today. He proceeded to outline a series of activities that users ought to be able to do themselves--from simple changes to a report like formatting or an addtional data visualization to integration of an additional data source. The keynote then continued with a series of demonstrations of both current and future technology in support of self-service BI. Some highlights that interested me: PowerPivot, of course, is the flagship product for self-service BI in the Microsoft BI stack. In the TechEd keynote, which was open to the BI conference attendees, Amir Netz (twitter) impressed the audience by demonstrating interactivity with a workbook containing 100 million rows. He upped the ante at the BI keynote with his demonstration of a future-state PowerPivot workbook containing over 2 billion records. It's important to note that this volume of data is being processed by a server engine, and not in the PowerPivot client engine. (Yes, I think it's impressive, but none of my clients are typically wrangling with 2 billion records at a time. Maybe they're thinking too small. This ability to work quickly with large data sets has greater implications for BI solutions than for self-service BI, in my opinion.) Amir also demonstrated KPIs for the future PowerPivot, which appeared to be easier to implement than in any other Microsoft product that supports KPIs, apart from simple KPIs in SharePoint. (My initial reaction is that we have one more place to build KPIs. Great. It's confusing enough. I haven't seen how well those KPIs integrate with other BI tools, which will be important for adoption.) One more PowerPivot feature that Amir showed was a graphical display of the lineage for calculations. (This is hugely practical, especially if you build up calculations incrementally. You can more easily follow the logic from calculation to calculation. Furthermore, if you need to make a change to one calculation, you can assess the impact on other calculations.) Another product demonstration will be available within the next 30 days--Pivot for Reporting Services. If you haven't seen this technology yet, check it out at www.getpivot.com. (It definitely has a wow factor, but I'm skeptical about its practicality. However, I'm looking forward to trying it out with data that I understand.) Michael Tejedor (twitter) demonstrated a feature that I think is really interesting and not emphasized nearly enough--overshadowed by PowerPivot, no doubt. That feature is the Microsoft Business Intelligence Indexing Connector, which enables search of the content of Excel workbooks and Reporting Services reports. (This capability existed in MOSS 2007, but was more cumbersome to implement. The search results in SharePoint 2010 are not only cooler, but more useful by describing whether the content is found in a table or a chart, for example.) This may yet be the dawning of the age of self-service BI - a phrase I've heard repeated from time to time over the last decade - but I think BI professionals are likely to stay busy for a long while, and need not start looking for a new line of work. Kummert repeatedly referenced strategic BI solutions in contrast to self-service BI to emphasize that self-service BI is not a replacement for the services that BI professionals provide. After all, self-service BI does not appear magically on user desktops (or whatever device they want to use). A supporting infrastructure is necessary, and grows in complexity in proportion to the need to simplify BI for users. It's one thing to hear the party line touted by Microsoft employees at the BI keynote, but it's another to hear from the people who are responsible for implementing and supporting it within an organization. Rob Collie (blog | twitter), Kasper de Jonge (blog | twitter), Vidas Matelis (site | twitter), and I were invited to join Andrew Brust (blog | twitter) as he led a Birds of a Feather session at TechEd entitled "PowerPivot: Is It the BI Deal-Changer for Developers and IT Pros?" I would single out the prevailing concern in this session as the issue of control. On one side of this issue were those who were concerned that they would lose control once PowerPivot is implemented. On the other side were those who believed that data should be freely accessible to users in PowerPivot, and even acknowledgment that users would get the data they want even if it meant they would have to manually enter into a workbook to have it ready for analysis. For another viewpoint on how PowerPivot played out at the conference, see Rob Collie's observations. Collaborative BI I have been intrigued by the notion of collaborative BI for a very long time. Before I discovered BI, I was a Lotus Notes developer and later a manager of developers, working in a software company that enabled collaboration in the legal industry. Not only did I help create collaborative systems for our clients, I created a complete project management from the ground up to collaboratively manage our custom development work. In that case, collaboration involved my team, my client contacts, and me. I was also able to produce my own BI from that system as well, but didn't know that's what I was doing at the time. Only in recent years has SharePoint begun to catch up with the capabilities that I had with Lotus Notes more than a decade ago. Eventually, I had the opportunity at that job to formally investigate BI as another product offering for our software, and the rest - as they say - is history. I built my first data warehouse with Scott Cameron (who has also ventured into the authoring world by writing Analysis Services 2008 Step by Step and was at the BI Conference last week where I got to reminisce with him for a bit) and that began a career that I never imagined at the time. Fast forward to 2010, and I'm still lauding the virtues of collaborative BI, if only the tools will catch up to my vision! Thus, I was anxious to see what Donald Farmer (blog | twitter) and Rita Sallam of Gartner had to say on the subject in their session "Collaborative Decision Making." As I suspected, the tools aren't quite there yet, but the vendors are moving in the right direction. One thing I liked about this session was a non-Microsoft perspective of the state of the industry with regard to collaborative BI. In addition, this session included a better demonstration of SharePoint collaborative BI capabilities than appeared in the BI keynote. Check out the video in the link to the session to see the demonstration. One of the use cases that was demonstrated was linking from information to a person, because, as Donald put it, "People don't trust data, they trust people." The Microsoft BI Stack in General A question I hear all the time from students when I'm teaching is how to know what tools to use when there is overlap between products in the BI stack. I've never taken the time to codify my thoughts on the subject, but saw that my friend Dan Bulos provided good insight on this topic from a variety of perspectives in his session, "So Many BI Tools, So Little Time." I thought one of his best points was that ideally you should be able to design in your tool of choice, and then deploy to your tool of choice. Unfortunately, the ideal is yet to become real across the platform. The closest we come is with the RDL in Reporting Services which can be produced from two different tools (Report Builder or Business Intelligence Development Studio's Report Designer), manually, or by a third-party or custom application. I have touted the idea for years (and publicly said so about 5 years ago) that eventually more products would be RDL producers or consumers, but we aren't there yet. Maybe in another 5 years. Another interesting session that covered the BI stack against a backdrop of competitive products was delivered by Andrew Brust. Andrew did a marvelous job of consolidating a lot of information in a way that clearly communicated how various vendors' offerings compared to the Microsoft BI stack. He also made a particularly compelling argument about how the existence of an ecosystem around the Microsoft BI stack provided innovation and opportunities lacking for other vendors. Check out his presentation, "How Does the Microsoft BI Stack...Stack Up?" Expo Hall I had planned to spend more time in the Expo Hall to see who was doing new things with the BI stack, but didn't manage to get very far. Each time I set out on an exploratory mission, I got caught up in some fascinating conversations with one or more of my peers. I find interacting with people that I meet at conferences just as important as attending sessions to learn something new. There were a couple of items that really caught me eye, however, that I'll share here. Pragmatic Works. Whether you develop SSIS packages, build SSAS cubes, or author SSRS reports (or all of the above), you really must take a look at BI Documenter. Brian Knight (twitter) walked me through the key features, and I must say I was impressed. Once you've seen what this product can do, you won't want to document your BI projects any other way. You can download a free single-user database edition, or choose from more feature-rich standard or professional editions. Microsoft Press ebooks. I also stopped by the O'Reilly Media booth to meet some folks that one of my acquisitions editors at Microsoft Press recommended. In case you haven't heard, Microsoft Press has partnered with O'Reilly Media for distribution and publishing. Apart from my interest in learning more about O'Reilly Media as an author, an advertisement in their booth caught me eye which I think is a really great move. When you buy Microsoft Press ebooks through the O'Reilly web site, you can receive it in any (or all) of the following formats where possible: PDF, epub, .mobi for Kindle and .apk for Android. You also have lifetime DRM-free access to the ebooks. As someone who is an avid collector of books, I fnd myself running out of room for storage. In addition, I travel a lot, and it's hard to lug my reference library with me. Today's e-reader options make the move to digital books a more viable way to grow my library. Having a variety of formats means I am not limited to a single device, and lifetime access means I don't have to worry about keeping track of where I've stored my files. Because the e-books are DRM-free, I can copy and paste when I'm compiling notes, and I can print pages when necessary. That's a winning combination in my mind! Overall, I was pleased with the BI conference. There were many more sessions that I couldn't attend, either because the room was full when I got there or there were multiple sessions running concurrently that I wanted to see. Fortunately, many of the sessions are accessible for viewing online at http://www.msteched.com/2010/NorthAmerica along with the TechEd sessions. You can spot the BI sessions by the yellow skyline on the title slide of the presentation as shown below. Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit! | kick it! | live it!

  • How do I implement camera axis aligned billboards?

    - by user19787
I am trying to make an axis-aligned billboard with Pyglet. I have looked at several tutorials, but they only show me how to get the up, right, and look vectors. So far this is what I have: target = cam.pos look = norm(target - billboard.pos) right = norm(Vector3(0,1,0) * look) up = look * right gluLookAt( look.x, look.y, look.z, self.pos.x, self.pos.y, self.pos.z, up.x, up.y, up.z ) This does nothing for me visibly. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

  • Python class representation under the hood

    - by decentralised
OK, here is a simple Python class: class AddSomething(object): __metaclass__ = MyMetaClass x = 10 def __init__(self, a): self.a = a def add(self, a, b): return a + b We have specified a metaclass, and that means we could write something like this: class MyMetaClass(type): def __init__(cls, name, bases, cdict): # do something with the class Now, the cdict holds a representation of AddSomething: AddSomething = type('AddSomething', (object,), {'x' : 10, '__init__': __init__, 'add': add}) So my question is simple, are all Python classes represented in this second format internally? If not, how are they represented? EDIT - Python 2.7

  • Extending Database-as-a-Service to Provision Databases with Application Data

    - by Nilesh A
Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c Database as a Service (DBaaS) empowers Self Service/SSA Users to rapidly spawn databases on demand in cloud. The configuration and structure of provisioned databases depends on respective service template selected by Self Service user while requesting for database. In EM12c, the DBaaS Self Service/SSA Administrator has the option of hosting various service templates in service catalog and based on underlying DBCA templates. Many times provisioned databases require production scale data either for UAT, testing or development purpose and managing DBCA templates with data can be unwieldy. So, we need to populate the database using post deployment script option and without any additional work for the SSA Users. The SSA Administrator can automate this task in few easy steps. For details on how to setup DBaaS Self Service Portal refer to the DBaaS CookbookIn this article, I will list steps required to enable EM 12c DBaaS to provision databases with application data in two distinct ways using: 1) Data pump 2) Transportable tablespaces (TTS). The steps listed below are just examples of how to extend EM 12c DBaaS and you can even have your own method plugged in part of post deployment script option. Using Data Pump to populate databases These are the steps to be followed to implement extending DBaaS using Data Pump methodolgy: Production DBA should run data pump export on the production database and make the dump file available to all the servers participating in the database zone [sample shown in Fig.1] -- Full exportexpdp FULL=y DUMPFILE=data_pump_dir:dpfull1%U.dmp, data_pump_dir:dpfull2%U.dmp PARALLEL=4 LOGFILE=data_pump_dir:dpexpfull.log JOB_NAME=dpexpfull Figure-1:  Full export of database using data pump Create a post deployment SQL script [sample shown in Fig. 2] and this script can either be uploaded into the software library by SSA Administrator or made available on a shared location accessible from servers where databases are likely to be provisioned Normal 0 -- Full importdeclare    h1   NUMBER;begin-- Creating the directory object where source database dump is backed up.    execute immediate 'create directory DEST_LOC as''/scratch/nagrawal/OracleHomes/oradata/INITCHNG/datafile''';-- Running import    h1 := dbms_datapump.open (operation => 'IMPORT', job_mode => 'FULL', job_name => 'DB_IMPORT10');    dbms_datapump.set_parallel(handle => h1, degree => 1);    dbms_datapump.add_file(handle => h1, filename => 'IMP_GRIDDB_FULL.LOG', directory => 'DATA_PUMP_DIR', filetype => 3);    dbms_datapump.add_file(handle => h1, filename => 'EXP_GRIDDB_FULL_%U.DMP', directory => 'DEST_LOC', filetype => 1);    dbms_datapump.start_job(handle => h1);    dbms_datapump.detach(handle => h1);end;/ Figure-2: Importing using data pump pl/sql procedures Using DBCA, create a template for the production database – include all the init.ora parameters, tablespaces, datafiles & their sizes SSA Administrator should customize “Create Database Deployment Procedure” and provide DBCA template created in the previous step. In “Additional Configuration Options” step of Customize “Create Database Deployment Procedure” flow, provide the name of the SQL script in the Custom Script section and lock the input (shown in Fig. 3). Continue saving the deployment procedure. Figure-3: Using Custom script option for calling Import SQL Now, an SSA user can login to Self Service Portal and use the flow to provision a database that will also  populate the data using the post deployment step. Using Transportable tablespaces to populate databases Copy of all user/application tablespaces will enable this method of populating databases. These are the required steps to extend DBaaS using transportable tablespaces: Production DBA needs to create a backup of tablespaces. Datafiles may need conversion [such as from Big Endian to Little Endian or vice versa] based on the platform of production and destination where DBaaS created the test database. Here is sample backup script shows how to find out if any conversion is required, describes the steps required to convert datafiles and backup tablespace. SSA Administrator should copy the database (tablespaces) backup datafiles and export dumps to the backup location accessible from the hosts participating in the database zone(s). Create a post deployment SQL script and this script can either be uploaded into the software library by SSA Administrator or made available on a shared location accessible from servers where databases are likely to be provisioned. Here is sample post deployment SQL script using transportable tablespaces. Using DBCA, create a template for the production database – all the init.ora parameters should be included. NOTE: DO NOT choose to bring tablespace data into this template as they will be created SSA Administrator should customize “Create Database Deployment Procedure” and provide DBCA template created in the previous step. In the “Additional Configuration Options” step of the flow, provide the name of the SQL script in the Custom Script section and lock the input. Continue saving the deployment procedure. Now, an SSA user can login to Self Service Portal and use the flow to provision a database that will also populate the data using the post deployment step. • Tuning Default WorkManager - Advantages and Disadvantages

    - by Murali Veligeti
Before discussing on Tuning Default WorkManager, lets have a brief introduction on What is Default WorkManger Before Weblogic Server 9.0 release, we had the concept of Execute Queues. WebLogic Server (before WLS 9.0), processing was performed in multiple execute queues. Different classes of work were executed in different queues, based on priority and ordering requirements, and to avoid deadlocks. In addition to the default execute queue, weblogic.kernel.default, there were pre-configured queues dedicated to internal administrative traffic, such as weblogic.admin.HTTP and weblogic.admin.RMI.Users could control thread usage by altering the number of threads in the default queue, or configure custom execute queues to ensure that particular applications had access to a fixed number of execute threads, regardless of overall system load. From WLS 9.0 release onwards WebLogic Server uses is a single thread pool (single thread pool which is called Default WorkManager), in which all types of work are executed. WebLogic Server prioritizes work based on rules you define, and run-time metrics, including the actual time it takes to execute a request and the rate at which requests are entering and leaving the pool. The common thread pool changes its size automatically to maximize throughput. The queue monitors throughput over time and based on history, determines whether to adjust the thread count. For example, if historical throughput statistics indicate that a higher thread count increased throughput, WebLogic increases the thread count. Similarly, if statistics indicate that fewer threads did not reduce throughput, WebLogic decreases the thread count. This new strategy makes it easier for administrators to allocate processing resources and manage performance, avoiding the effort and complexity involved in configuring, monitoring, and tuning custom executes queues. The Default WorkManager is used to handle thread management and perform self-tuning.This Work Manager is used by an application when no other Work Managers are specified in the application’s deployment descriptors. In many situations, the default Work Manager may be sufficient for most application requirements. WebLogic Server’s thread-handling algorithms assign each application its own fair share by default. Applications are given equal priority for threads and are prevented from monopolizing them. The default work-manager, as its name tells, is the work-manager defined by default. Thus, all applications deployed on WLS will use it. But sometimes, when your application is already in production, it's obvious you can't take your EAR / WAR, update the deployment descriptor(s) and redeploy it.The default work-manager belongs to a thread-pool, as initial thread-pool comes with only five threads, that's not much. If your application has to face a large number of hits, you may want to start with more than that.Well, that's quite easy. You have  two option to do so.1) Modify the config.xmlJust add the following line(s) in your server definition : <server> <name>AdminServer</name> <self-tuning-thread-pool-size-min>100</self-tuning-thread-pool-size-min> <self-tuning-thread-pool-size-max>200</self-tuning-thread-pool-size-max> [...] </server> 2) Adding some JVM parameters Add the following system property in setDomainEnv.sh/setDomainEnv.cmd or startWebLogic.sh/startWebLogic.cmd : -Dweblogic.threadpool.MinPoolSize=100 -Dweblogic.threadpool.MaxPoolSize=100 Reboot WLS and see the option has been taken into account . Disadvantage: So far its fine. But here there is an disadvantage in tuning Default WorkManager. Internally Weblogic Server has many work managers configured for different types of work.  if we run out of threads in the self-tuning pool(because of system property -Dweblogic.threadpool.MaxPoolSize) due to being undersized, then important work that WLS might need to do could be starved.  So, while limiting the self-tuning would limit the default WorkManager and internally it also limits all other internal WorkManagers which WLS uses.So the best alternative is to override the default WorkManager that means creating a WorkManager for the Application and assign the WorkManager for the application instead of tuning the Default WorkManager.

  • Cocos2d sprite's parent not reflecting true scale value

    - by Paul Renton
I am encountering issues with determining a CCSprite's parent node's scale value. In my game I have a class that extends CCLayer and scales itself based on game triggers. Certain child sprites of this CCLayer have mathematical calculations that become inaccurate once I scale the parent CCLayer. For instance, I have a tank sprite that needs to determine its firing point within the parent node. Whenever I scale the layer and ask the layer for its scale values, they are accurate. However, when I poll the sprites contained within the layer for their parent's scale values, they always appear as one. // From within the sprite CCLOG(@"ChildSprite-> Parent's scale values are scaleX: %f, scaleY: %f", self.parent.scaleX, self.parent.scaleY); // Outputs 1.0,1.0 // From within the layer CCLOG(@"Layer-> ScaleX : %f, ScaleY: %f , SCALE: %f", self.scaleX, self.scaleY, self.scale); // Output is 0.80,0.80 Could anyone explain to me why this is the case? I don't understand why these values are different. Maybe I don't understand the inner design of Cocos2d fully. Any help is appreciated.

  • Managing .NET Deployment Configuration With Rake

    - by Liam McLennan
Rake is a ruby internal DSL for build scripting. With (or without) the help of albacore rake makes an excellent build scripting tool for .NET projects. The albacore documentation does a good job of explaining how to build solutions with rake but there is nothing to assist with another common build task – updating configuration files. The following ruby script provides some helper methods for performing common configuration changes that are required as part of a build process.  class ConfigTasks def self.set_app_setting(config_file, key, value) ovsd_element = config_file.root.elements['appSettings'].get_elements("add[@key='#{key}']")[0] ovsd_element.attributes['value'] = value end def self.set_connection_string(config_file, name, connection_string) conn_string_element = config_file.root.elements['connectionStrings'].get_elements("add[@name='#{name}']")[0] conn_string_element.attributes['connectionString'] = connection_string end def self.set_debug_compilation(config_file, debug_compilation) compilation_element = config_file.root.elements['system.web'].get_elements("compilation")[0] compilation_element.attributes['debug'] = false end private def self.write_xml_to_file(xml_document, file) File.open(file, 'w') do |config_file| formatter = REXML::Formatters::Default.new formatter.write(xml_document, config_file) end end end To use, require the file and call the class methods, passing the configuration file name and any other parameters. require 'config_tasks' ConfigTasks.set_app_setting 'web.config', 'enableCache', 'false'
