  • Windows Phone - failing to get a string from a website with login information

    I am new to accessing web services with Windows Phone 7/8. I'm using a WebClient to get a string from a php-website. The site returns a JSON string but at the moment I'm just trying to put it into a TextBox as a normal string just to test if the connection works. The php-page requires an authentication and I think that's where my code is failing. Here's my code: WebClient client = new WebClient(); client.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("myUsername", "myPassword"); client.DownloadStringCompleted += new DownloadStringCompletedEventHandler(client_DownloadStringCompleted); client.DownloadStringAsync(new Uri("https://www.mywebsite.com/ba/php/jsonstuff.php")); void client_DownloadStringCompleted(object sender, DownloadStringCompletedEventArgs e) { try { string data = e.Result; this.jsonText.Text = data; } catch (Exception ex) { System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine(ex.Message); } } This returns first a WebException and then a TargetInvocationException. If I replace the Uri with for example "http://www.google.com/index.html" the jsonText TextBox gets filled with html text from Google (oddly enough, this also works even when the WebClient credentials are still set). So is the problem in the setting of the credentials? I couldn't find any good results when searching for guides on how to access php-pages with credentials, only without them. Then I found a short mention somewhere to use the WebClient.Credentials property. But should it work some other way?     What is the simplest way I can hide a sensitive identifier, while providing some equivalent means of identifying the data from outside? For example, lets say I have a database table with records and one of them is an sensitive ID field. ID 2A 1S etc... then I want to have a second record: ID PublicID 2A AXXX44328 1S KKKZJSAAS such that when I am given a PublicID I can always determine what ID it refers to: H(PublicID) = ID but nobody else is able to do so. I suspect this is like, encryption - with throwing away a public key?

  • Combining the value of GetLastError and a custom error message

    I have a function that returns a different DWORD value for each case there is an error. So I have the following defines: #define ERR_NO_DB_CONNECTION 0x90000 #define ERR_DB_NOT_OPEN 0x90001 #define ERR_DB_LOCKED 0x90002 #define ERR_DB_CONN_LOST 0x90003 Now, I return those values when an error occurs. I need to also return the value of GetLastError in the same return. No, I can't read it later. I tried combining it different ways, eg: return ERR_DB_NOT_OPEN + GetLastError(); and then extract the error by subtracting the value of ERR_DB_NOT_OPEN but since I need to use this in functions where there can be several return values it can get quite complex to do that. Is there any way to achieve this? I mean, combine the value + GetLastError and extract them later? Code is appreciated. Thanks Jess.

    I have an upload script that write a index.html file, I modified it to mail me the results, however the point to the root, since the email isn't in the root, the image doesn't load. How do I append the code to add "http://www.home.html/uploaded" prior to the ". $value ." so that the images show up in the email.   • SSRS 2008 Report.GetDefaultPageSettings returns incorrect information

    I have an application that retrieves a report from SSRS 2008 and prints it automatically. This works except it always prints the report in Letter/Portrait. This particular report is Letter/Landscape. I have tracked the problem down to when calling the Report.GetDefaultPageSettings() function for this report, it returns PaperSize.Height = 1100 and PaperSize.Width = 850. I even modified the report to a custom size of 11" x 8.4" and it still returns 850 for the width. I cannot get this to print correctly when it renders the image incorrectly based on these settings. The report prints correctly when accessed by a web browser. It is only when I am trying to automatically print it that the issue appears.

    I set new value at the last row and right col on the first page of the jqGrid. After this I move to the next page and see the same new value on the first row and right col!!! I am return to the first page and see in the last row and right col the previos value(not new one). The jqGrid is initialized with datatype: "xmlstring" from javascript variable who is set with "datastr" parameter. How to resolve the situation?

I've searched entire solution, and nowhere there's mention of this var, except for 1 file, where it's needed ... Moreover, the code VS writes, has an error in it ?! It doesn't compile ... The only thing I can do is edit the designer file, but the next time I have to edit the form with the designer, the same error happens again ... Where on earth is VS getting this value from ??

    What I want is to use a boolean value from applicationContext.xml (Jboss configuration file) in my javascript. Currently I use Spring to inject a value configured in applicationContext.xml into my backingbean. Then I put an output text in my jsp like this <h:outputText id="idValue" styleClass="foo" value="" rendered="#{bean.isRendered}"/> In my JavaScript I try following jQuery(function(){ bRedirect = jQuery("#foo").value != undefined; ... All this looks so terrible to me, even though it works fine. There must be a smarter way than doing what I do. Note that I am running JSF1.2 and therefore must use jQuery instead of $ and also select by unique class (foo) and not by id, which may be bad practice as well. Thank you in advance. alfons

I'm sure there is something I am missing, but I cannot figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
