• PHP: Mapped Network Drives

  Hello all, I have mapped a network drive to a computer in my home network. Now I am trying to access it via PHP - I did this quick test: echo opendir('Z:\\'); This gives me: Warning: opendir(Z:\) [function.opendir]: failed to open dir: No error in C:\wamp\www\webs\tester-function.php on line 3 What have I done wrong here? I don't want my users typing in the UNC path so is there a way to get the UNC path for them and maybe that will work when I try to access it? This is possible in Microsoft languages but I am not sure how to get PHP to do this - maybe using a cmd.exe command? Please note, the mapped drive does exist as I can see it and I can access it. It also does not appear to be a permissions problem as I am assuming it would of complained about this IF it could access that drive...right? Thanks all for any help

• Database Engine not appearing in SQL Server listing

  I don't know if I'm searching for the wrong queries in google but I can't seem to find an answer to this. I have SQL Server 2008 installed in my pc and according to services.msc, I've got 2 database engines running: SQLEXPRESS (probably one that came along with Visual Studio) and MSSQLSERVER. When I try to connect only SQLEXPRESS is visible in the Server Name drop down list. I tried to explicitly state MSSQLSERVER by typing in MYPCNAME\MSSQLSERVER Didn't work. The best solution I could find in the internet was to enable stuff at Configuration Manager. Didn't work either (although I did find that TCP/VIA and all other options were disabled for MSSQLSERVER). Anyone have any other ideas on what I should try next or probably something that I overlooked?

• C# Container Class

  I'm building a game in c# which allows you to script your own level, although I have come across a bit of a thought. I have a base class called "World" as an object. This was made with a simple: class World { However, when the user is scripting their level, all of the game objects will be contained in the world object. I want them to be able to do something on the lines of: World.ParentObjectName.ParentObjectProperty = "abc"; I know that the System.Windows.Forms.Panel and other classes are like containers and can have objects in them and be accessed in that kind of way... my question is how can I make a class which is like a container in which I can add objects to, and then access them with a World.ObjectName I have tried class World : System.Collections.CollectionBase, but with this method, I have to keep typing World.Item("ObjectName") Can anyone help? • Creating quick GUI front ends

  Hi, I wanted to have a GUI front-end for a script that accepts numerous command-line options, most of them are UNIX paths. So I thought rather than typing them in (even with auto-completion) every time, I'd create a GUI front end which contains text boxes with buttons beside them, which when clicked will invoke the file browser dialogue. Later, I thought I'd extend this to other scripts which would sure require a different set of GUI elements. This made me think if there's any existing app that would let me create a GUI dialog, after parsing some kind of description of the items that I want that window should contain. I know of programs like Zenity, but I think it's doesn't give me what I want. For example, if I were to use it for the first script, it'll end up flashing sequence of windows in succession rather than getting everything done from a single window. So, basically I'm looking at some program that lets me create a window from a text description, probably XML or the like. Please suggest. Thanks Jeenu

• Jquery autosuggest google maps - Load on selection

  At the moment, the Google map code works like this: When you start typing in the input box it loads a list of suggestions. Then when you click on one of these options from the list, it puts it into the input box. However, THEN you still have to click find to load up the result. I want to have it so when you click on an option from the autosuggest list, it automatically loads the result, without having to click "find" afterwards. This is the code I am working with.   Hi, I'm developing an application that requires a textarea to be used in which no. of characters are restricted to 165. I made an object of JTextArea with row & column no. 3,3 respectively but it didn't work as when I went on typing, the size of 'Textarea' went on increasing.How to restrict that? As I've used 'DocumentListener' for noting no. of characters typed,deleted,cut and pasted, I'm getting problem when suddenly the size of textarea is increased. Thank you!

• Aptana function definition popups

  I've noticed that in Aptana 2.0 over 1.5.1 that when typing a php function, you no longer get the popup window showing the function description and it's parameters. Does anyone know how to get this working again? As I relied on it quite heavily to remember which parameters went where. Open in PHP Manual shortcut Shift+F2 also doesn't work either, so all I can do is open my browser and keep php.net open all the time. Are either of these features functional? I know that Open delcaration has never worked annoyingly, but I had the function popup in 1.5.1 perfectly.

  Is it possible to set a password textbox text to text that the user could not reproduce on their end? Like are there special characters that can only be set from the server? For instance, one way to do this would be to use javascript to prevent typing of *'s, and to set the textbox text to be all *'s. But that's hacky. The motivation is to be able to tell on the server if the user changed the password at all, but not to restrict them from having a password of all *'s, for instance.

  Hi I am building a script for users new to Linux, so please understand why I am asking this :) My script runs like this: python script.py -f filename.txt I am using the optparse module for this. However, I noticed the following when doing tab completion. The tab completion works when I do: python script.py <tab completion> # Tab completion works normally as expected But it does not work when I do it like this: python script.py -f <tab completion> # No type of tab completion works here. I really don't want my users typing the name of the input file. Tab completion is a must. How can I get it working or what am I doing wrong here?

  Many are familiar with the hello world program in C #include <stdio.h> main () { printf ("hello world"); return 0; } Why do some precede the main () function with int as in: int main() Also, I've seen the word 'void' entered inside the () as in: int main(void) It seems like extra typing for nothing, but maybe it's a best practice that pays dividends in other situations? Also, why precede main() with an int if you're returning a character string? If anything, one would expect: char main(void) I'm also foggy about why we return 0 at the end of the function.

  Can someone explain to me why these comparisons work they way the do. I had a bug in one of my scripts that took me a little bit to work through. I was using read-host and typing a number. It was storing it as a string. Write-Host "(`'2`' -gt 9 ) = " ('2' -gt 9 ) Write-Host "(2 -gt 9 ) = " (2 -gt 9 ) Write-Host "(`'2`' -gt 10 ) = " ('2' -gt 10 ) If you are comparing a string to an Int does it use the Ascii value? If so why does the first one show $false, it should be $true. Then how is it when you chage it to an int of 10 it because $true.

• Eclipse + CVS use custom commit

  Hi All, My admin has set up the "cvs commit" in a very non traditional way, instead of typing "cvs commit" I use the admin provided "scriptname modified file" to checkin the file to CVS. I am using Eclipse to my day to day work and till now I am using the Eclipse CVS Plugin to checkout the repo,update,compare,etc and use the command line to checkin. I am getting annoyed by having to go to command line to do the commit, is there any way I can make Eclipse accept when I say commit it invokes the admin script instead of "cvs commit" ? I spoke to Admin and moving the under the cvs pre-commit hooks is not an option. What can I do ? I know fair amount of "Java" I am willing to do some changes to CVS plugin if I know how and where. If you have a plain html input type=text with a small width eg 20 and then type more characters than can be displayed, it shows the last characters you type. • How do I create an empty file in emacs?

  How can I create an empty file from emacs, ideally from within a dired buffer? For example, I've just opened a Python module in dired mode, created a new directory, opened that in dired, and now need to add an empty __init__.py file in the directory. If I use C-x C-f __init__.py RET C-x C-s then emacs doesn't create the file because no changes have been made to it. I would have to type in the file, save it, delete my typing and then save it again for that to work. Thanks

• How to detect .NET WPF memory leak or GC long run?

  I have the next very strange situation and problem: .NET 4.0 application for diagram editing (WPF). Runs ok in my PC: 8GM RAM, 3.0GHz, i7 quad-core. While creating objects (mostly diagram nodes and connectors, plus all the undo/redo information) the TaskManager show, as expected, some memory usage "jumps" (up and down). These mem-usage "jumps" also remains executing AFTER user interaction ended. Maybe this is the GC cleaning/regorganizing memory? To see what is going on, I've used the Ants mem profiler, but somewhat it prevents those "jumps" to happen after user interaction. PROBLEM: It Freezes/Hangs after seconds or minutes of usage in some slow/weak laptos/netbooks of my beta testers (under 2GHz of speed and under 2GB of RAM). I was thinking of a memory leak, but... EDIT: Also, there is the case that the memory usage grows and grows until collapse (only in slow machines). In a Windows XP Mode machine (VM in Win 7) with only 512MB of RAM Assigned it works fine without mem-usage "jumps" after user interaction (no GC cleaning?!). So, I really have a big trouble because I cannot reproduce the error, only see these strange behaviour (mem jumps), and the tool supposed to show me what is happening is hiding the problem (like the "observer's paradox"). Any ideas on what's happening and how to solve it?

  In Internet Explorer 7, you can select options from comboboxes by typing the first few letters of the value you're looking for. However, some people in our organisation are a bit slow and can't type their selection quick enough, with the result that the timeout is triggered and the "select as you type" process starts all over again. Example: If I type A-R-M-A (looking for Armadale) then wait half a second and type D, I'll get selections beginning with the letter D. What I want to do is increase this timeout to allow for slow typers. (We're in a corporate environment so rolling out these changes to all machines won't be a problem).

• MS 70-536 .NET Framework Foundation - info on Exam? Especially regex?

  Hi, I know there are already some questions about this, but not that specific. I have the self-paced training kit and worked through the test exam tool that is on the CD coming with the book. I constantly fail on the test tool, mostly on the regex questions. I'm not a regex guru. In fact my regex-fu is more than weak. I know what regex'es are, how I can use them and where my 'Regular expressions - kurz und gut' book is in my drawer in case I really need them. And to be honest I feel like learning regex is a total waste of time, because if I need them I have either a colleague that is fit and can do them in just a few seconds or I need my book and get them right in a still fair amount of time. And from my experience I can tell that I need regex like once in two or three years. So just putting in a lot of time into learning just the expressions to pass the exam is.. something I like not to have to do. Can you tell me something about the real exam vs. the test exam tool on the book and about the need to know regex for passing it? Thank you for your time. Marked as Community Wiki. Hope that fits?

• How to run a .class file in Windows 7 OS?

  Hi, This is probably a stupid question, but how do I run a class file on windows 7? I usually create my own .java files and then use a basic IDE (with JDK6) to compile it to a class and run it automatically. My professor gave a .class file that we are supposed to play with extensively but I have no idea how to to run it here. Note that I cannot run it by typing: java classname.class because it contains gui stuff especially buttons and such. • How can I send keypresses to a running process object?

  I am trying to make C# launch an application (in this case open office), and start sending that application keypresses such that it would appear as though someone is typing. So ideally, I would be able to send a running open office process the keypress for the letter "d", and open office would then type d on the paper. Can anyone give me direction as per how to go about this? I have tried to do the following: p = new Process(); p.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = true; p.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = false; p.StartInfo.FileName = processNames.executableName; p.Start(); p.StandardInput.Write("hello"); But that doesn't get me the desired effect - I don't see the text typed out in open office.

  Hello, I am trying to implement some functionality in a blackberry app, that I saw in other application. Basically it's a window that has a message, and a Facebook icon. When you click on the icon it launches a new window, this window asks the user for permissions(user and password), and then the message is posted in the user's wall. So my question is how can I replicate that?. I have been looking at the graph api, but I just can't figure out how to do all of this in one step.   I have coworkers who occasionally use typedef to avoid typing. For example: typedef std::list<Foobar> FoobarList; ... FoobarList GetFoobars(); Personally, I always hate coming across code like this, largely because it forces me to go lookup the typedef so I can tell how to use it. I also feel like this sort of thing is a potential slippery slope... If you do this, why aren't you doing it more? (pretty soon, your code is totally obfuscated). I found this SO question regarding this issue: when should I use typedef in C I have two questions: 1) am I truly alone in disliking this? 2) If the vast majority of people think this sort of typedef use is OK, what criteria do you use to determine whether to typedef a type?

• how to run TimerTask off main UI thread?

  I am having trouble with a TimerTask Interfering with In App Purchasing (Async Tasks). I am weak with Threads, so I believe it is running on the main UI thread, eating up resources. How can I run this outside the UI thread? I have searched, and tried some suggestions using handlers. but seems like I get the same result, app gets really laggy. when I don't run this task (refreshes every 500mS), the activity runs smoothly, and there are no hangs during In app purchases.
