• Problem wit MDAC when trying to compile in VS2008 using x64 bit target platform

  I am trying to compile an 32 bit application. I am aware of problems with it but that is why its being compiled on 64 bit version. I am hanging at this problem. Application uses lots of sql stuff. In sqltypes.h file: (provided by MDAC) #ifdef _WIN64 typedef INT64 SQLLEN; typedef UINT64 SQLULEN; typedef UINT64 SQLSETPOSIROW; #else For some reason when its compiled on 32 bit platform it works great But when I try building it on 64 it goes berserk. Error 61 error C2146: syntax error : missing ';' before identifier 'SQLLEN' ..\external\microsoft sdk\include\sqltypes.h 50 It does not recognize INT64, UINT64. Is there something I need to enable so it will work under 64 build process? Missing some #include or #define? Any help would be great Thanks

  We're looking for a cheap-to-free "off the shelf" ASP.NET catalogue application, that will meet the following requirements: Support two kinds of listings: Suppliers of Services Suppliers of Products, and their Products Suppliers can be categorised by: Area of specialisation - including sub-categories Location Other data, e.g. where listing came from Versioning of supplier/product details Easy to use management interface Use masterpages so we can drop it into our existing site layout Run on a Windows 2003 server, with .NET 3.5 installed In an ideal world, the following additional requirements might be met: Suppliers can manage their own listings Other products that are available to us (that will obviously need some additional development to meet these requirements) are: Content Management System (MS) Commerce Server - bear in mind we're not selling the products/suppliers, just listing them Simple DB application. I'm happy to knock something up in MCMS/simple DB, I'm just looking to see if anyone's had any experience with off the shelf apps that could save us some time. • InstallShield setup and Click-Once

  Hi InstallShield 10 apparently can create an installer and integrate with click once, but this feature is not active in trial version. Anyway I tried to create a click once deployment by hand (using mage) and succeed with a sample wpf application, what I want to do is click once with an installShield setup.exe file, buy it seems that it's not a .net application and I can't use it for click once. Does anyone know how installShield manages this with it's click once feature? or how can I create click once with the regular setup.exe file. Thanks.

  Hi guys this is a followup from the question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2583928/prefilling-gmail-compose-screen-with-html-text Where I was building a google apps application - I can call a gmail compose message page from my application using the url: https://mail.google.com/a/domain/?view=cm&fs=1&tf=1&source=mailto&to=WHOEVER%40COMPANY.COM&su=SUBJECTHERE&cc=WHOEVER%40COMPANY.COM&bcc=WHOEVER%40COMPANY.COM&body=PREPOPULATEDBODY However when I try to pass in the body parameter a very long line of text eg as a reply message body I get this error from GMAIL stating the REQUEST URI is too long. Is there a better way to do this as in a way to fillin the text body box of gmail compose section. Or some way to open the page and have it prefilled with javascript some how...

• Redirecting domain (not google apps) to appengine

  Hi, I'm building a application that supports different domains. A small CMS that supports different domains. But what I can't figure out is how to redirect other domains that's outside google apps. I have a domain at google apps, that work's perfectly. When I create a cname that points at either my appid.appspot.com or www.appsdomain.com it just goes to google.com. What do I need to do so the other domains point to my appengine application. ..fredrik

• Too many open files error in Glassfish3 while using https listener

  I have a problem running webservice that requires https connection(Glassfish3). After running for a while, it eventually crashes. Log file show "Failed to load keystore type JKS with path ....config/keystore.jks due to ...config/keystore.jks (Too many open files)". lsof shows that a number of open files are constantly increasing (among others, I noticed that there are many files with type 'sock' and undefined protocol that never get closed). I tried changing the limit of open files, but it resulted in a longer time before crashing... I blamed the webservice, but everything works fine if the application doesn't require confidential protocol. Did I miss anything in http listener configuration ? Or it is rather an application error? • Setting the colour scheme for a Silverlight app from an external resource

  I have a Silverlight 3 application containing six custom user controls. I'd like to load the colour scheme for these controls from an external resource. The code and XAML containing a default colour scheme would be built in the XAP. Then a parameter on the object tag would contain a URL from where alternate colours can be dynamically loaded. By the way, the Silverlight 3 application theme feature could be used if that's possible but is really overkill. Only colours need to be changed. Is this possible and how would you recommend to do it?

• Cleaning up temp folder after long-running subprocess exits

  I have a Python script (running inside another application) which generates a bunch of temporary images. I then use subprocess to launch an application to view these. When the image-viewing process exists, I want to remove the temporary images. I can't do this from Python, as the Python process may have exited before the subprocess completes. I.e I cannot do the following: p = subprocess.Popen(["imgviewer", "/example/image1.jpg", "/example/image1.jpg"]) p.communicate() os.unlink("/example/image1.jpg") os.unlink("/example/image2.jpg") ..as this blocks the main thread, nor could I check for the pid exiting in a thread etc The only solution I can think of means I have to use shell=True, which I would rather avoid: cmd = ['imgviewer'] cmd.append("/example/image2.jpg") for x in cleanup: cmd.extend(["&&", "rm", x]) cmdstr = " ".join(cmd) subprocess.Popen(cmdstr, shell = True) This works, but is hardly elegant, and will fail with filenames containing spaces etc.. Basically, I have a background subprocess, and want to remove the temp files when it exits, even if the Python process no longer exists.

• Tomcat - Redirect to Error Page when ServletContextListener fails

  When Tomcat starts it calls my ServletContextListener to obtain a database connection, which I will later use in other servlets with getServletContext(). It is called in my web.xml as: listener listener-class org.ppdc.database.DBCPoolingListener /listener-class /listener (I removed the < because they wouldn't display properly in this message. If I cannot connect to the database when Tomcat starts up I get a 404 error, because Tomcat cannot start the application. How can I redirect the user to a custom error page at this point? I tried the following in my web.xml (I have the < brackets in the original): (error-page) (error-code404/error-code) (location/file_not_found.html/location) (/error-page) Any ideas on how to redirect a user to one of my error pages when Tomcat tries to start the application? • Access 2003 - Embedded ppt slide or Excel Spreadsheet in a form, how do I communicate?

  So if I was to take a an access form, and embed either an excel spreadsheet into it, or a powerpoint slide/pres, how would I reference it in VBA code? So I know I have to set the libraries, name the frame of the OLE object, and use applicable syntax to whatever I want to do, with whatever I stick in the form, however the only things I have ever done with excel and/or powerpoint is automate the opening of a seperate window/application from access, not within the access form....so I am not sure?? if I said its a new Excel.Application, then set xls = to (the ss in the file, and not some file path of another excel file somewhere)? does that make sense?

  I'm developing a kiosk-style touchscreen application in Qt. Currently I'm using an Elo Touch surface acoustic wave touchmonitor which works well except for one thing: drag performance is way too poor to provide a good user experience. As this is the case for the cursor in X as well as in my application, it seems to be either the fault of X (probably not) or the touchmonitor. Since mobile platforms are able to achieve very high performance in this regard, it seems like it should be possible for vastly more powerful desktop systems. Does anybody have experience with getting good drag performance out of desktop touchmonitors? What hardware have you used? Is X to blame?

• FIPS-compliant encryption in .NET 2.0

  We have a .NET 2.0 application that uses the RijindaelManaged class to encrypt some sensitive data. This was fine until we ran into some machines that require the use of FIPS-compliant algorithms. We'd like to switch to AesCryptoServiceProvider, but most of our target machines haven't upgraded past .NET 2.0. Requiring an upgrade is out of the question. After all, upgrades are scary! Is there any way we could use AesCryptoServiceProvider in a .NET 2.0 application? Since 3.5 uses the 2.0 CLR, I was hoping there might be a way to build the needed libraries into the app. Failing that, could someone point me to a reference on the native API that's wrapped by AesCryptoServiceProvider?

  I've been looking into iPhone development, but I've been having problems coming up with the answer to a certain question. If I create an application on my Mac, is there any way I can get it to run on an iPhone without going through the app store? It doesn't matter if the iPhone has to be jailbroken, as long as I can still run an application created using the official SDK.   Well, I tried to ask this question as a comment on this question, but I thought that maybe no one will notice it, so I decided to ask it as a separate one. The question is about how to do real-time GPS tracking system things; if we have the following scenario: Rather than connecting a GPS receiver to a PC, the user will have a mobile device with an integrated GPS receiver. Location data will be sent over mobile network using GPRS data connection to a server side. The data will be processed and a KML path file will be created and updated on time intervals and used to track the user using Google Earth. The question is: what is the best method to accomplish this scenario for the server side; is it a web service, a web application, a windows service, a windows application or what exactly? Taking into account that the system will serve a number of users simultaneously, and that more users may use the system in the future(scalability issues). • Controlling 3rd party program.

  Hi my program launches a 3rd party program with a few switches to update itself. Once these updates are complete I need to manually click save from the applications menu. This can be done via the keyboard (Alt Gr + M then Alt Gr + S) The application will take several seconds to load at which point the application will open maximised and the save option will be enabled. Can anyone suggest a method or example for doing such a thing? Monitoring a lauched process? Macro? Thanks.

• @font-face Not Working on Other Computers

  Hey Guys, I've been working on my first HTML5/CSS3 site, and it's been going well for the most part. Totally loving the new @font-face property, and it works perfectly on my machine. The problem I'm having is when previewed on another device (computer, ipad, iphone), it doesn't seem to be recognising the @font-face property and uses the fallback font instead. • asp.net MVC - how to get complete local and global resources

  I'm localizing application and need to provide JSON representation of local and global resources for JS part of application for all views. My current idea is I'd implement HtmlHelper extension methods like GetLocalResourcesJSON/GetGlobalResourcesJSON which should encode all resource keys+values and return them JSON encoded as string (I'd implement caching as well). At the moment I'm able to retrieve single specific key from global or local resource belonging to current view (using httpContext.GetGlobalResourceObject/GetLocalResourceObject), but I'm not able to find out how to retrieve whole resource object and iterate all its keys+values. Is there any method how to achieve this? it looks like ResourceProviderFactory could be the the key to this problem, but it's not accessible publicly anywhere. I could instantiate ResourceExpressionBuilder and use reflection to retrieve the provider using GetLocal/GlobalResourceProvider() methods, but I don't like using reflection here at all...

• Dynamic size canvas with Scroll bars

  Hi, I am developing a simple WPF application without any auto layout. The goal is when a user clicks (mouse down) a element (say textBlock) will appear at the location of the mouse click. For this I am using canvas panel embedded in a Grid of 1 row, 1 column and scrollviewer (visible). The issues are: 1. when the application window is resized the scroll viewers do not become active. 2. I want the ability to auto grow the canvas with mouse drag. Something like in MS-Excel when user drags the mouse horizontally/vertically the canvas should grow. I have searched net a lot to figure this out and am unable to get an answer. Any help in this regard would be great. Thanks a bunch in advance. -P

• Core-Data + AFNetworking + UI Updating (Responsiveness)

  Here's the scenario: I'm writing a DownloadManager, that allows the user to download, pause, cancel, download all, and pause all. The DownloadManager is a singleton, and uses AFNetworking to download files. It has it's own private managed object context, so that user can freely use other parts of the application (by adding, editing, deleting) core-data objects. I have a core-data entity DownloadInfo that stores the download information i.e. fileURL, fileSize, bytesRead, etc. The DownloadManager updates the download progress in DownloadInfo (one for each file). I have a DownloadManagerViewController which uses NSFetchedResultsController to show the download status to the user. This download view controller is using the main managed object context. Now let's say that I have 20 files in the download queue. And let's say that only 3 concurrent downloads are allowed. The download manager should download the file, and show the download progress. Problem: The DownloadInfo objects are being updated by the DownloadManager at a very high rate. The DownloadManagerViewController (responsible for showing the download progress) is updating the list using NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegate methods. The result is that a lot is happening in the main queue and application has very poor responsiveness. How can I fix this? How can I make the application responsive, while showing the download progress? I don't know how else to communicate that the download status between DownloadManager and DownloadManagerViewController. Is there another/ a better way to do this? I don't want to use main managed object context in my DownloadManager, for reasons mentioned above. Note, that the DownloadManager is using AFNetworking which is handling the requests asynchronously, but eventually the DownloadInfo objects are updated in the main thread (as a result of the callback methods). Maybe there's a way to handle the downloads and status update operations in a background thread? but how? How will I communicate between the main thread and the background thread i.e. how will I tell the background thread to queue another file for download? Thanks.
