• How can I force a major upgrade to not switch to maintenance mode using the old installation package

  I have an installer that I would like to use for a major upgrade. I have done the following: Increased the version number (from a.b.c to a.b.c+1) Changed the ProductCode Kept the same UpgradeCode Made the appropriate entry in the Upgrade table Changed the component ID of an existing component Changed the name of the installer package Changed the PackageCode Basically I've done everything I can think of to force MSI to treat this as a major upgrade. However, when I attempt to install this new package, the installer log says "Product registered: entering maintenance mode" and proceeds to try to find the old installer file (which fails, since the new installer is in a different folder than was used for the original installation, and wasn't even what I wanted to happen). What am I missing? Why does the installer switch to maintenance mode right away rather than perform the major upgrade? Thanks!

  I need to add a soap header to my web service. I plan to use this to validate my clients (Windows Mobile Devices). I have done some research and I seem to be paralyzed by the number of options. I basically want to add a simple header to my soap object that will be a user name and password. The client does not use WCF, so the soap header needs to just be a normal soap header. Any Sample code or shoves in the right direction would be appreciated.

• Why is Java not telling me when I can't use Integer?

  For a small project (Problem 10 Project Euler) i tried to sum up all prime numbers below 2 millions. So I used a brute force method and iterated from 0 to 2'000'000 and checked if the number is a prime. If it is I added it to the sum: private int sum = 0; private void calculate() { for (int i = 0; i < 2000000; i++) { if (i.isPrime()) { sum = sum + i; } } sysout(sum) } The result of this calculation is 1179908154, but this is incorrect. So i changed int to BigInteger and now i get the correct sum 142913828922. Obviously the range of int was overflowed. But why can't Java tell my that? (e.g. by an exception)

It's easy to repeat the 100% mantra that I see all over the internet without considering the cost benefit analysis and when diminishing returns actually sets in. I solicit comments from persons who have actually reported code coverage on real-life, medium/large-sized projects. What percentages were you seeing? How much is too much? I really want some balance (in figures) that will help developers produce hight quality code. Is 65% coverage too low to expect? Is 80% too high?

• Dynamically creating controls in MFC (Collection question)

  Hello all, I have some custom control inside of which i should create radiobuttons or checkboxes. The count of child controls is available only at runtime (it loads some file from which it gets this count). So i need to create variable number of controls. Which collection i should use for this purpose? Solution 1: simply use std::vector (or CArray) - not suitable because i want use MFC (CButton). Of course i can Attach() and later Detach() handle to window each time i need this window, but it will give big overhead. Solution 2: use std::vector or CArray or CList or... In this case i take care about making 'new' and appropriate 'delete' when control is unneeded. I am forgetful :) MFC handle map contains pointer to CButton and i can't use simple CArray, because it will move my objects each time when his size will grow. ... and the question is: Which collection i should use for containing variable count of MFC control classes?

I could repeat the requisite conversions a dozen times by putting them in each of the callers, but it seems much more efficient to do it once in the called method. public String myMethod(String myArg) { return DoSomething(myArg); } public Int32 myMethod(String myArg) { return Convert.ToInt32(DoSomething(myArg)); } private String DoSomething(key) { return SomeList[key]; } If I have multiple methods that pull data from SomeList and have to utilize different data types then in each I have to do a type conversion. Examples might be session variables or query or form requests or any other number of things.   We are developing a rather large WPF based application and would like to include some automated UI testing in our test suite (which already contains a number of unit tests). The UI Automation Framework from Microsoft partly sounds like a perfect fit for programatically launching and interacting with the application in a test setup. However, I've struggled to find solid references for samples and experiences with the technology, the articles and small samples available on MSDN is not enough to convince me that it is a solid choice. So, does anybody have real world experiences using the UI Automation Framework in their test suite? What are the caveats and the gotchas? Any best practices when written tests scripts, can you "record and replay" to a scriptable format, how much should you facilitate the testing from the application, how did you incorporate it in the automatic build? Should we be looking in another direction than the UI Automation Framework? Feel free to post you experiences here or link to some good references I might have missed

• LNK1106 with big binary resource

  I have a rather huge .dat-file (896MB) included as a BIN resource in my project. Now I get a LNK1106 link error ("fatal error LNK1106: invalid file or disk full: cannot seek to 0x382A3920".) I use Visual Studio 2005 under Windows XP, and have tried on a 4GB RAM machine with high Virtual Memory settings and lots of disk space. I have tried a number of different optimization flags, but to no avail. Does anyone have a clue? EDIT: I have narrowed it down to a specific size of the compiled resource. If the .res file is 544078588 bytes (about 518.9MB) or larger, the error occurs. If it is smaller it works just fine. Still no solution, though...

  I have a posts controller and a comments controller. Post has many comments, and comments belong to Post. The associate is set up with the counter_cache option turned on as such: #Inside post.rb has_many :comments #Inside comment.rb belongs_to :post, :counter_cache => true I have a comments_count column in my posts table that is defaulted to zero, as such: add_column :posts, :comments_count, :integer, :default => 0 In the create action of my comments controller, I have the following code: def create @posts = Post.find(params[:post_id]) @comment = @post.comments.build(params[:comment]) if @comment.save redirect_to root else render :action => 'new' end end My problem: when @comment.save is called, I get the following error: ArgumentError in CommentsController#create wrong number of arguments (2 for 0) Removing :counter_cache => true from comment.rb completely solves the problem, so I'm assuming that it is the cause of this vague error. What am I missing here? How can I save my comment and still have rails take care of my counter_cache for my post? Thanks!

• Give style attributes to sub-elements inside a <style> tag?

  My <style> for thumbnails currently looks like this: <style type="text/css"> img.TN { width: 100%; margin-bottom: 5.294%; cursor: pointer; } </style> This is annoying, because I have to apply this style to every single thumbnail image individually, when there could be any number of them on the screen at any given time. All of the thumbnails are inside a single <div> that groups them together, and I'd like to apply a single style to the <div> that will push the attributes I need down to all of the the <img> elements nested inside, regardless how many thumbnails there are. I'm using ASP.NET 2.0, and CSS 2.0 Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks!

  Hi I am using a navigation Controller on an iPhone app. I am able to pass data forward when I push a controller into the navigation stack but how do I pass data back when I pop the controller. What I am basically trying to achieve is the root navigation controller view displays a number of fields that can be edited. A user then clicks on one of the fields to be edited and a EditViewController is pushed onto the stack with the name of the field the user wants to edit. Now the users enters the new value of the field and presses save to pop the view controller. So how do I get the value from the editViewController back to the root navigation controller view?

• Custom Display Form with Custom Workflow button

  I have created a new custom list form that will show 4 fields on the page from a Custom List called "Shipment". I have added Form Action button that I would like to run a custom action that is set inside of a Workflow. Currently, the form displays the fields for "Manifest Number", "Pickup Location", "Delivery Location", & "Scheduled Pickup Time". When the user clicks the Form Action button, what I want the Workflow to do is go to the ID field of the displayed content in the Form and change the value of the "Picked Up" column from No to Yes. The problem I am having is passing the ID of the displayed information from the Form to the Workflow as a variable. I can get the "Picked Up" column to update if I specify the value in the "Update List Item" window under the "Find the List Item" section, but I cannot figure out how to do this dynamically from the Form

I need to : store them securely use them to analysis (mostly time-oriented) retrieve some raw data occasionally It would be nice if it could be used with JasperReports or BIRT My first shot was Infobright Community - just a column-oriented, read-only storing mechanism for MySQL On the other hand, people says that NoSQL approach could be better. Hadoop+Hive looks promissing, but the documentation looks poor and the version number is less than 1.0 . I heard about Hypertable, Pentaho, MongoDB .... Do you have any recommendations ? (Yes, I found some topics here, but it was year or two ago)

• Move million records from MEMORY table to MYISAM table.

  Hi, I am looking for a fast way to move records from a MEMORY table to MYISAM table. MEMORY table has around 0.5 million records. Both tables have exactly the same structure (same number of columns, data types etc.). But the MYISAM table is indexed (B-TREE) on a few columns. There are around 25 columns most of which are unsigned integers. I have already tried using "INSERT INTO SELECT * FROM " query. But is there any faster way to do this? Appreciate your help. Prashant

• VIM: created syntax not showing up?

  HI people I recently changed to VIM for coding in C. I'd like to hightlight the operators +-<=& ... etc I searched in google how should i do it, and i found the answer in this website: I was suppose to do something like: syntax match Operadores /[][><()&!|+*={}-]/ hi Operadores guifg=#000000 gui=BOLD Those characters were supposed to appear as black, bold characters. However, that doesn't happen when I open my .C files. However, if I create a newfile, (where there the C syntax doesn't show up), I am able to see the black, bolded operators. How can i correct this situation, and why is this happening (it seams like if my syntax is beeing overwrided by the C syntax). I'm using gvim, and this is my vimrc: colorscheme nicotine set smartindent set number set guifont=Inconsolata\ Medium\ 11 set numberwidth=5 noremap j jzz noremap k kzz Thanks, any help is appreciated.   I have a data structures homework, that in addition to the regular AVL tree functions, I have to add a function that returns the minimum gap between any two numbers in the AVL tree (the nodes in the AVL actually represent numbers.) Lets say we have the numbers (as nodes) 1 5 12 20 23 21 in the AVL tree, the function should return the minimum gap between any two numbers. In this situation it should return "1" which is |20-21| or |21-20|. It should be done in O(1). Tried to think alot about it, and I know there is a trick but just couldn't find it, I have spent hours on this. There was another task which is to find the maximum gap, which is easy, it is the difference between the minimal and maximal number.

• Does the specific signed integer matter when implementing compareTo in a Comparable <Type> class?

  When implementing compareTo(), does the degree of "difference" need to be taken into account? For instance, if I have 3 objects, C1, C2, and C3, such that C1 < C2 < C3. Should C1.compareTo(C2) return an integer that is less than C2.compareTo(C3)? The documentation for the Comparable interface doesn't seem to specify one way or another, so I'm guessing the degree doesn't matter, but it would be nice to know if there is some advantage returning a specific number (for example, improving TreeSet sort speed or something). http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/lang/Comparable.html#compareTo(T)

  Hi Guys, I am in a bit of a rut with a cURL issue. The post works greate, the data is POSTED just fine and received ok, but the url of the posted page never appears in the browser after the cURL session is executed, for example look at the following code: $ch = curl_init("http://localhost/eterniti/cart-step-1.php"); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HEADER, false); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POST, true); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, "error=1&em=$em&fname=$fname&lname=$lname&email1=$email1&email2=$email2&code=$code&area=$area&number=$num&mobile=$mobile&address1=$address1&address2=$address2&address3=$address3&suburb=$suburb&postcode=$postcode&country=$country"); curl_exec($ch); curl_close($ch); The post works fine and I am taken to the cart-step-1.php where I can process the posted data, HOWEVER the location in the URL address bar of the browser remains that of the script page, in this case proc_xxxxxx.php Any ideas how to get the URL address to reflect the page I am actually POSTED to? • Unselected UIPickerView value

  According to the documentation, if a UIPickerView has no selected value, the expected return from selectedRowInComponent: should be: "A zero-indexed number identifying the selected row, or -1 if no row is selected." However, if I check the value the very line after initializing one, its value is 0. Even if I then manually set it to -1, it still returns 0. I would like to be able to detect whether the user has chosen a value yet or not, without recording it in a local variable.
