How do I get rid of this "(" using regex?

Hi there, I was moving along on a regex expression and I have hit a road block I can't seem to get around. I am trying to get rid of "(" in the middle of a line of text using regex, there were 2 but I figured out how to get the one on the end of the line. its the one in the middle I can hack out. Here is the snippet I am searching for in the config file. I put 2 examples. guestOSAltName = "Ubuntu Linux (64-bit)" guestOSAltName = "Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" Here is the snippet I am working on. if ($vmx_file =~ m/^\bguestOSAltName\b\s+\S\s+\W(?<GUEST_OS> .+[^")])\W/xm) { $virtual_machines{$vm}{"OS"} = "$+{GUEST_OS}"; } else { $virtual_machines{$vm}{"OS"} = "N/A"; } I am thinking the problem is I cannot make a match to "(" because the expression before that is to ".+" so that it matches everything in the line of text, be it alphanumeric or whitespace or even symbols like hypens. Any ideas how I can get this to work? I am experimenting with ADO.NET and I am seeing this error on the second attempt to browse the service: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes" ?> <error xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices/metadata"> <code /> <message xml:lang="en-US">Media type requires a ';' character before a parameter definition.</message> </error> The first attempt is normal. I am working with an exactly identical service on an internal development network and it is fine. Why is Excel's 'Evaluate' method a general expression evaluator?

A few questions have come up recently involving the Application.Evaluate method callable from Excel VBA. The old XLM macro language also exposes an EVALUATE() function. Both can be quite useful. Does anyone know why the evaluator that is exposed can handle general expressions, though? My own hunch is that Excel needed to give people a way to get ranges from string addresses, and to get the value of named formulas, and just opening a portal to the expression evaluator was the easiest way. (The help for the VBA version does say its purpose it to "convert a Microsoft Excel name to an object or a value".) But of course you don't need the ability to evaluate arbitrary expressions just to do that. (That is, Excel could provide a Name.Evaluate method or something instead.) Application.Evaluate seems kind of...unfinished. It's full behavior isn't very well documented, and there are quite a few quirks and limitations (as described by Charles Williams here: http://www.decisionmodels.com/calcsecretsh.htm) with what is exposed. I suppose the answer could be simply "why not expose it?", but I'd be interested to know what design decisions led to this feature taking the form that it does. Failing that, I'd be interested to hear other hunches.

Cannot create a new VS data connection in Server Explorer

I have a local instance of SQL Server 2008 express edition running on my development PC. I'm trying to create a new data connection through Visual Studio Server Explorer. The steps are the following: Right click the "Data Connections" node = Choose Data Source. I select "Microsoft SQL Server" as the data source. The "Add Connection" dialog window appears. I select my local server instance = "Test connection" works fine. I select "AdventureWorks" as the database name = "Test connection" works fine. Next I hit the "Ok" button = Error message: "This server version is not supported. Only servers up to MS SQL Server 2005 are supported." I'm using Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition. The target framework of the application is ".NET framework 3.5". I have a reference to System.Data (framework v2.0) and cannot find another version of the assembly on my system. Am I referencing the wrong assembly? How can I fix this problem?

How to access web.config connection string in C#?

I have a 32-bit XP running VS 2008 and I am trying to decrypt my connection string from my web.config file in my C# ASPX file. Even though there are no errors returned, my current connection string doesn't display contents of my selected AdventureWorks stored procedure. I entered it: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC>Aspnet_regiis.exe -pe "connectionStrings" -app "/AddFileToSQL2" Then it said "Succeeded". CAML query soap SharePoint

I'm trying to access a SharePoint list and return the calendar dates for a custom webpart I made. It was working fine, then I decided to only retrieve the date selected rather than the whole calendar, so I wanted to add a where clause. I've tried 'yyyy-MM-dd', 'yyyy-MM-ddThh:mm:ssZ', and 'yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ssZ' as string formats I've also tried MM/dd/yyyy as a date format. I'm using jQuery, and I do have list items in the calendar. crash when using stl vector at instead of operator[]

I have a method as follows (from a class than implements TBB task interface - not currently multithreading though) My problem is that two ways of accessing a vector are causing quite different behaviour - one works and the other causes the entire program to bomb out quite spectacularly (this is a plugin and normally a crash will be caught by the host - but this one takes out the host program as well! Mail Server on Google Apps, Hotmail Blocks

My company provides private research tools (sites) for companies. Each site has its own domain name and users. These sites need to be able to send outbound mail for notifications such as password reminders. We started using Google Apps for this purpose, but lately we are having tremendous problems with mailing, especially to hotmail. I added the SPF record as required. Mxtoolbox says my domains are not in any blacklists. I was told to contact https://postmaster.live.com/snds/addnetwork.aspx and add my network. Given that I am using google's mail servers for sending mail, should I add their IP address for registering my domain? Or should I add my server's IP even though I am not hosting the mail server on it? Managed WMI Event class is not an event class???

However, when I'm trying to subscribe to event using "Notification Query" option, I'm getting 0x80041059 Number: 0x80041059 Facility: WMI Description: Class is not an event class. What am I doing wrong, and is there a correct way to create managed WMI event?

Which way to go in Linux 3D programming?

I'm looking for some answers for a project I'm thinking of. I've searched and from what I understand (correct me if I'm wrong) the only way the program I want to make will work is through 3D application. Let me explain. I plan to make a studio production program but it's unique in the fact that I want to be able to make it fluid. Let me explain. Imagine Microsoft's Surface program where you're able to touch and drag pictures across the screen. Instead of pictures I want them to be sound samples (wavs,mp3,etc). Of course instead the input will be with the mouse but if I ever do finish the project I would totally add touch screen input compatibility! Anyway, I'm guessing there's "physics" to do with it which is why I'm thinking that even though it'll be a 2D application I'll need to code it in a 3D environment. Assuming that I'm correct in how I want to approach my project, where can I start learning about 3D programming? I actually come from PHP programming which will make C++ easier for me to learn. But I don't even know where to start. If I'm not wrong OpenGL is the most up to date API as far as I know. Anyway, please give me your insights guys. I could really use some guidance here since I could totally be wrong in everything that I wrote :)

CSS optimization - extra classes in dom or preprocessor-repetitive styling in css file?

I'm starting on a fairly large project and I'm considering the option of using LESS for pre-processing my css. the useful thing about LESS is that you can define a mixin that contains for example: .border-radius(@radius) { -webkit-border-radius: @radius; -moz-border-radius: @radius; -o-border-radius: @radius; -ms-border-radius: @radius; border-radius: @radius; } and then use it in a class declaration as .rounded-div { .border-radius(10px); } to get the outputted css as: .rounded-div { -webkit-border-radius: 10px; -moz-border-radius: 10px; -o-border-radius: 10px; -ms-border-radius: 10px; border-radius: 10px; } this is extremely useful in the case of browser prefixes. However this same concept could be used to encapsulate commonly-used css, for example: .column-container { overflow: hidden; display: block; width: 100%; } .column(@width) { float: left; width: @width; } and then use this mixin whenever i need columns in my design: .my-column-outer { .column-container(); background: red; } .my-column-inner { .column(50%); font-color: yellow; } (of course, using the preprocessor we could easily expand this to be much more useful, eg. pass the number of columns and the container width as variables and have LESS determine the width of each column depending on the number of columns and container width!) the problem with this is that when compliled, my final css file would have 100 such declarations, copy&pasted, making the file huge and bloated and repetitive. The alternative to this would be to use a grid system which has predefined classes for each column-layout option, eg .c-50 ( with a "float: left; width:50%;" definition ), .c-33, .c-25 to accomodate for a 2-column, 3-column and 4-column layout and then use these classes to my dom. i really mislike the idea of the extra classes, from experience it results to bloated dom (creating extra divs just to attach the grid classes to). Also the most basic tutorial for html/css would tell you that the dom should be separated from the styling - grid classes are styling related! to me, its the same as attaching a "border-radius-10" class to the .rounded-div example above! on the other hand, the large css file that would result from the repetitive code is also a disadvantage so i guess my question is, which one would you recommend? and which do you use? and, which solution is best for optimization? apart from the larger file size, has there even been any research on whether browser renders multiple classes faster than a large css file, or the other way round? tnx! i'd love to hear your opinion!

MSSQL 2008 - Bit Param Evaluation alters Execution Plan

I have been working on migrating some of our data from Microsoft SQL Server 2000 to 2008. Among the usual hiccups and whatnot, I’ve run across something strange. Linked below is a SQL query that returns very quickly under 2000, but takes 20 minutes under 2008. I have read quite a bit on upgrading SQL server and went down the usual paths of checking indexes, statistics, etc. before coming to the conclusion that the following statement, found in the WHERE clause, causes the execution plan for the steps that follow this statement to change dramatically: And ( @bOnlyUnmatched = 0 -- offending line Or Not Exists( The SQL statements and execution plans are linked below. A coworker was able to rewrite a portion of the WHERE clause using a CASE statement, which seems to “trick” the optimizer into using a better execution plan. Concurrent Threads in C# using BackgroundWorker

My C# application is such that a background worker is being used to wait for the acknowledgement of some transmitted data. Here is some psuedo code demonstrating what I'm trying to do: UI_thread { TransmitData() { // load data for tx // fire off TX background worker } RxSerialData() { // if received data is ack, set ack received flag } } TX_thread { // transmit data // set ack wait timeout // fire off ACK background worker // wait for ACK background worker to complete // evaluate status of ACK background worker as completed, failed, etc. } ACK_thread { // wait for ack received flag to be set } What happens is that the ACK BackgroundWorker times out, and the acknowledgement is never received. I'm fairly certain that it is being transmitted by the remote device because that device has not changed at all, and the C# application is transmitting. I have changed the ack thread from this (when it was working)... for( i = 0; (i < waitTimeoutVar) && (!bAckRxd); i++ ) { System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(1); } ...to this... DateTime dtThen = DateTime.Now(); DateTime dtNow; TimeSpan stTime; do { dtNow = DateTime.Now(); stTime = dtNow - dtThen; } while ( (stTime.TotalMilliseconds < waitTimeoutVar) && (!bAckRxd) ); The latter generates a very acurate wait time, as compared to the former. However, I am wondering if removal of the Sleep function is interferring with the ability to receive serial data. Does C# only allow one thread to run at a time, that is, do I have to put threads to sleep at some time to allow other threads to run? Any thoughts or suggestions you may have would be appreciated. I am using Microsoft Visual C# 2008 Express Edition. Thanks.

Is this state-of-the-art Ajax/jQuery, or should I do it differently?

Hi everyone: I'm using Ajax and jQuery to do some cool client-side stuff. Basically, if the user chooses a subject from a from a drop-down list, I want to auto-populate the page with a set of book details. However, I've built the Ajax from Google results and bits of string. I don't know if what I've done is up-to-date, or whether there are now much neater ways of doing it! Reference remotely located assembly (web uri) from locally installed application?

Hi Stackoverflowers! :) We have a .NET application for Windows which is installed locally by Microsoft Installer. Now we have the need to use additional assemblies which are located online at our Web Servers. We'd like to refer to a remote uri like https://www.ourserver.com/OurProductName/ExternalLib.dll and reveal additional functionality, which is described roughly by a known common ("AddIn/Plugin") Interface. These are not 3rd Party Plugins, we just want be able to exchange parts of the application frequently, without the need to have frequent software updates. Our first idea was to add some kind of "remote refence" in Visual Studio by setting the path to the remote assembly uri. But Visual Studio downloaded the assembly immediately to a temporary directory, adding a reference to it. Our second attempt then, is simply using a WebRequest (or WebClient) to retrieve a binary stream of the Assembly, loading it "from image" by using Assembly.Load(...). This actually works, but is not very elegant and requires more additional programming for verification etc. We hoped Clickonce would provide useful techniques but apparently it's suitable for standalone applications only. (Correct me?) Is there a way (.net native or by framework/api) to reference remotely located assemblies? Thanks in advance and have a happy easter!

Strange Access Denied warning when running the simplest C++ program.

I am just starting to learn C++ (coming from a Java background) and I have come across something that I can't explain. I am working through the C++ Primer book and doing the exercises. Every time I get to a new exercise I create a new .cpp file and set it up with the main method (and any includes I think I will need) e.g.: #include <list> #include <vector> int main(int argc, char **args) { } and just to make sure I go to the command prompt and compile and run: g++ whatever.cpp a.exe Normally this works just fine and I start working on the exercise, but I just did it and got a strange error. It compiles fine, but when I run it it says Access Denied and AVG pops up telling me that a threat has been detected 'Trojan Horse Generic 17.CKZT'. I tried compiling again using the Microsoft Compiler (cl.exe) and it runs fines. So I went back, and added: #include <iostream> compiled using g++ and ran. This time it worked fine. So can anyone tell me why AVG would report an empty main method as a trojan horse but if the iostream header is included it doesn't?

MSI File/Registry failures on Windows Server 2008/Windows 7 (x64)

I'm trying to deploy an application on Windows Server 2008 (SP2 x64) and Windows 7 (x64), using VS2005 Installer Project. The MSI version (I think) it the 2.0. Everything works fine, except that some registry keys and some files are not copied on the install machine. The MSI system doesn't notify about nothing (and I don't know whether MSI logs its operations). Are there incompatibilities between my MSI installer project and these new OSes? It seems to me that the OS protect itself for being modified in some part. For example, I'm trying to set the registry keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\WinLogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList\User but it is not created. In the same installer there are many other keys, which are created like expected (as they always did before on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003). To provide another example, I'm trying to install the file %SystemFolder%\oobe\info\backgrounds\backgroundDefault.jpg (where %SystemFolder% is typically "C:\Windows\System32"), but the file is not copied at all!!! What's going on? I've found the backgroundDefault.jpg file is located in another directory: %SystemRoot%\SysWOW64\oobe\info. But I've not specified nothing about a System (64 bit) folder. How can I copy the file in the right place?

innerhtml not working on blogger

I'm working on a simple vote system. It works fine when the two files are together(locally). However, when I publish it on blogger, it is unable to output the results. Has anyone ever had OpenCV work with Python 2.7 on MacOS 10.6?

I've been trying on and off for the past 6 months to get OpenCV to work with Python on MacOS. Every time there's a new release, I try again and fail. I've tried both 64-bit and 32-bit, and both the xcode gcc and gcc installed via macports. I just spend the past two days on it, hopeful that the latest OpenCV release, that appears to include Python support directly would work. It doesn't. I've also tried and failed to use this: http://code.google.com/p/pyopencv/ I've been using OpenCV with C++ or Microsoft C++/CLI for the past few years, but I'd love to use it with Python on a Mac because that is my primary development environment. I'd love to hear from anyone who's actually been able to get the opencv python examples to run under Mac OS 10.6, either 32 or 64-bit. My last attempt was to follow the instructions on this page http://recursive-design.com/blog/2010/12/14/face-detection-with-osx-and-python/ with a clean, fresh install of 10.6 on a 64-bit capable Mac. My PYTHONPATH is set, and I can see the cv library in it. But an "import cv" from python fails. Previously, the closest I've ever gotten (again, staring on a clean, fresh 10.6 install) was this: Python 2.7.1 (r271:86882M, Nov 30 2010, 10:35:34) [GCC 4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build 5664)] on darwin Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. >>> import cv Fatal Python error: Interpreter not initialized (version mismatch?) VB.net/Excel- "Backwards" tab index For Each iteration with textboxes.

Hi there, I have a form with 3 textboxes and 1 button. textbox1 has tab index 0, and it's text = 1 textbox2 has tab index 1, and it's text = 2 textbox3 has tab index 2, and it's text = 3 I want to iterate thru the textboxes and place their values into cells so that... range("A1").value = txtbox1.text (ie: A1 = "1") range("A2").value = txtbox2.text (ie: A2 = "2") range("A3").value = txtbox3.text (ie: A3 = "3") but what I am getting is... range("A1").value = txtbox1.text (ie: A1 = "3") range("A2").value = txtbox2.text (ie: A2 = "2") range("A3").value = txtbox3.text (ie: A3 = "1") I have tried reversing the tab index for the text boxes, but it doesn't change the "backwards iteration". Is there something I can do to change this so that the loop runs from lowest tab index to highest? Thanks!
