  • Performance side effect with static internal Util classes?

    - by Fostah
For a util class that contains a bunch of static functionality that's related to the same component, but has different purposes, I like to use static internal classes to organize the functionality, like so: class ComponentUtil { static class Layout { static int calculateX(/* ... */) { // ... } static int calculateY(/* ... */) { // ... } } static class Process { static int doThis(/* ... */) { // ... } static int doThat(/* ... */) { // ... } } } Is there any performance degradation using these internal classes vs. just having all the functionality in the Util class?

  • Click Listener not invoked within ListFragment

    - by membersound
    I'm extending a SherlockListFragment, but it should not matter as my question seems to be more general related to Fragments. Now, I implement a simple click listener for my list, but it does not get called. public class MyListFragment extends SherlockListFragment { @Override public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) { View v = inflater.inflate(R.layout.list, container, false); v.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View view) { Log.i("debug", "single click"); } }); return v; } } Is anything wrong with this? //Solution: listView.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() { @Override public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) { Log.i("debug", "single click"); } });

  • Nested fragments survive screen rotation

    - by ievgen
I've faced with an issue with Nested Fragments in Android. When I rotate the screen the Nested Fragments survive somehow. I've come up with a sample example to illustrate this issue. public class ParentFragment extends BaseFragment { @Override public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) { return inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_parent, container); } @Override public void onViewCreated(View view, Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onViewCreated(view, savedInstanceState); getChildFragmentManager() .beginTransaction() .add(getId(), new ParentFragmentChild(), ParentFragmentChild.class.getName()) .commit(); } @Override public void onResume() { super.onResume(); log.verbose("onResume(), numChildFragments: " + getChildFragmentManager().getFragments().size()); } } public class ParentFragmentChild extends BaseFragment { @Override public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) { return inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_child, null); } } BaseFragment just logs method calls. This is what I see when I rotate the screen. When Activity initially appears ParentFragment? onAttach(): ParentFragment{420d0a98 #0 id=0x7f060064} ParentFragment? onCreate() ParentFragment? onViewCreated() ParentFragmentChild? onAttach(): ParentFragmentChild{420d08d0 #0 id=0x7f060064 com.kinoteatr.ua.filmgoer.test.ParentFragmentChild} ParentFragmentChild? onCreate() ParentFragmentChild? onViewCreated() ParentFragment? onResume() ParentFragment? onResume(), numChildFragments: 1 ParentFragmentChild? onResume() Screen rotation #1 ParentFragmentChild? onPause() ParentFragment? onPause() ParentFragment? onSaveInstanceState() ParentFragmentChild? onSaveInstanceState() ParentFragmentChild? onStop() ParentFragment? onStop() ParentFragmentChild? onDestroyView() ParentFragment? onDestroyView() ParentFragmentChild? onDestroy() ParentFragmentChild? onDetach() ParentFragment? onDestroy() ParentFragment? onDetach() ParentFragment? onAttach(): ParentFragment{4211bc38 #0 id=0x7f060064} ParentFragment? onCreate() ParentFragmentChild? onAttach(): ParentFragmentChild{420f4180 #0 id=0x7f060064 com.kinoteatr.ua.filmgoer.test.ParentFragmentChild} ParentFragmentChild? onCreate() ParentFragment? onViewCreated() ParentFragmentChild? onViewCreated() ParentFragmentChild? onAttach(): ParentFragmentChild{42132a08 #1 id=0x7f060064 com.kinoteatr.ua.filmgoer.test.ParentFragmentChild} ParentFragmentChild? onCreate() ParentFragmentChild? onViewCreated() ParentFragment? onResume() ParentFragment? onResume(), numChildFragments: 2 ParentFragmentChild? onResume() ParentFragmentChild? onResume() Screen rotation #2 ParentFragmentChild? onPause() ParentFragmentChild? onPause() ParentFragment? onPause() ParentFragment? onSaveInstanceState() ParentFragmentChild? onSaveInstanceState() ParentFragmentChild? onSaveInstanceState() ParentFragmentChild? onStop() ParentFragmentChild? onStop() ParentFragment? onStop() ParentFragmentChild? onDestroyView() ParentFragmentChild? onDestroyView() ParentFragment? onDestroyView() ParentFragmentChild? onDestroy() ParentFragmentChild? onDetach() ParentFragmentChild? onDestroy() ParentFragmentChild? onDetach() ParentFragment? onDestroy() ParentFragment? onDetach() ParentFragment? onAttach(): ParentFragment{42122a48 #0 id=0x7f060064} ParentFragment? onCreate() ParentFragmentChild? onAttach(): ParentFragmentChild{420ffd48 #0 id=0x7f060064 com.kinoteatr.ua.filmgoer.test.ParentFragmentChild} ParentFragmentChild? onCreate() ParentFragmentChild? onAttach(): ParentFragmentChild{420fffa0 #1 id=0x7f060064 com.kinoteatr.ua.filmgoer.test.ParentFragmentChild} ParentFragmentChild? onCreate() ParentFragment? onViewCreated() ParentFragmentChild? onViewCreated() ParentFragmentChild? onViewCreated() ParentFragmentChild? onAttach(): ParentFragmentChild{42101488 #2 id=0x7f060064 com.kinoteatr.ua.filmgoer.test.ParentFragmentChild} ParentFragmentChild? onCreate() ParentFragmentChild? onViewCreated() ParentFragment? onResume() ParentFragment? onResume(), numChildFragments: 3 ParentFragmentChild? onResume() ParentFragmentChild? onResume() ParentFragmentChild? onResume() They keep getting multiplied. • Why is this javascript function so slow on Firefox?

    - by macrael
This function was adapted from the website: http://eriwen.com/javascript/measure-ems-for-layout/ function getEmSize(el) { var tempDiv = document.createElement("div"); tempDiv.style.height = "1em"; el.appendChild(tempDiv); var emSize = tempDiv.offsetHeight; el.removeChild(tempDiv); return emSize; } I am running this function as part of another function on window.resize, and it is causing performance problems on Firefox 3.6 that do not exist on current Safari or Chrome. Firefox's profiler says I'm spending the most time in this function and I'm curious as to why that is. Is there a way to get the em size in javascript without doing all this work? I would like to recalculate the size on resize incase the user has changed it.

  • Which reporting tool would you recommend?

    - by grady
Hi, I have some reporting functionality in my app and I want to improve it a bit. Its only SQL in a XML file which is read by some parser. There can be some params for that SQL and when its parsed and the params are injected, it is executed against my DB (SQL Server). I want to improve that a bit so that the results look better and are more flexible. This are the most important points I need to have: subtotals layout that can change dynamically according to settings in DB (like logo, slogan) possibility to use the same report template for several customers (same fields, but different logos, colors, slogans etc.) should run from an ASP.NET application It should be as dynamic as possible. I know of Crystal Reports and the Microsoft Reporting Tool. Are there any others that might be of interest and are my above points possible at all? Thanks for some ideas and hints :-)...

  • How to deal with multiple screensizes + dynamic controls in Android?

    - by chobo2
Hi I am learning how to program on Android phone. However I am unsure how to make my application work for the different screen sizes and resolutions. I read the tutorial on the android site and still unsure how to do it. First I know there are different files so could make a layout for each of the sizes but my problem is most of the screen needs to be dynamically created so there would not be much to put in these files. So I am not sure how to android to re size dynamic controls based on the screen size. I have also read it is bad practice to make controls in anything but the xml file as it separates view logic and programming logic. However they never talk about if you need to make these controls dynamically what you should do. So is there some other way to do it that is considered good practice?

  • Android: How can we change the view in the tabs?

    - by achie
I want to provide a clickthrough on the list in a tab which opens another view. I need to open the new view within the same tab. I then need to provide a back button on the changed layout to change the view to original view. I have tried this. Intent intentA = new Intent(this, AView.class); Now I am trying to access the tabSpec from main activity class[MainTabView] and set the intent as follows. MainTabView.tabSpec1.setContent(intentA); MainTabView.mTabHost.setCurrentTab(0); MainTabView.mTabHost.invalidate(); But this does not change the view immediately but changes it when I go to another tab and come to the starting tab. How can I make it to refresh it as soon as the content has been changed to another intent?

  • Web Designer looking to learn back-end programming...

    - by Tabetha Moe
Hello, my name is Tabetha and I have a question... I am a web designer, but I always find that while designing the layout and coding the design I come up with great ideas for websites. I would like to know where I need to start in order to learn back-end programming not only for the knowledge, but also for the challenge of it. I have searched online but can't seem to find the information I am looking for. If anyone can give me a simple, straight-forward "this is what language you need to learn" answer, or perhaps guide me in the right direction I would appreciate it ten-fold. I am a complete noob when it comes to this, so even the most basic information is probably a pearl of wisdom for me. :)

  • Draw text with in a rect with given width

    - by Forchita
I'm trying to draw text on NSView subclass. I'm using an NSTextStorage, an NSLayoutManager, and an NSTextContainer. I followed Apple's doc and here's the method I use to calculate the necessary height for each text: NSSize newSize= NSMakeSize(width, 0.0); NSLayoutManager* layoutManager= [[textStorage layoutManagers] objectAtIndex:0]; NSTextContainer* textContainer= [[layoutManager textContainers] objectAtIndex:0]; [textContainer setContainerSize:newSize]; [textStorage addAttribute:NSFontAttributeName value:font range:NSMakeRange(0, [textStorage length])]; [textContainer setLineFragmentPadding:0.0]; [layoutManager glyphRangeForTextContainer:textContainer]; return [layoutManager usedRectForTextContainer:textContainer].size.height; The only problem is that I don't know how to draw in an NSRect with the layout manager. Can you help me please? Thanks in advance!

  • A non-ugly way to persist dialog contents across orientation changes?

    - by alex
So I have a managed AlertDialog with a number of EditTexts & separate portrait + landscape layouts. The user opens the dialog in portrait mode, enters some text and then all of a sudden decides to pop out the keyboard. Now, I need to remove the dialog and recreate it for the changed layout persisting the text entered. What I can think of is getting references to the EdiTexts in onPrepareDialog(..), then getting the actual text in onConfigurationChanged(..), then removing the dialog, then showing it again, then populating it. Rather ugly, huh? Are there any better options?

  • Displaying conditional amount of fields in UI (Android)

    - by Sochin
I am using layout xml documents for my ui controls. I need to create and remove these controls (input fields) on the fly, based on how many results I get back from my database. For each group, there can be 0..* fields and these are prepopulated from the database. Also, it would be good if I can invoke a method to create an additional field; something like the address book, where you can click + or - to add or remove a phone or other detail. In a "psuedo" style, I'm guessing something like this: Check database - How many of X are there [y]? Create Y fields. The user may then add new fields, so once I click submit i need to apply all of that to database. Any examples or hints greatly welcomed. Hope this make sense! :)

hi.. how can I position a div under another element without the rest of the layout is affected of the div element? <div style="margin:20px; padding:10px"> here is a little <span id="test" style="font-weight:bold">test</span> </div> <script> var elm = document.getElementById('test'); var div = elm.appendChild(document.createElement('div')); with(div){ style.position = 'absolute'; style.left = elm.offsetLeft; style.background = '#ffffff'; style.width = '100px'; style.height = '50px'; innerHTML = 'wooop'; } </script> this works in IE but not in FF.. FF ignores the style.left and position the element at 0px as if it was aligned to the left

  • How to prevent unit test from using util from test project?

    - by calucier
I am using eclipse and I have two projects, project1 and project1-test. Below is the example layout of my projects: project1 -src --my.package ----MyClass.java --my.package.util ----util.java project1-test -src --my.package ----MyClassTest.java --my.package.util ----util.java MyClass.java makes a static call to the util.java in project1. MyClassTests.java is testing MyClass.java. When the test class runs, it fails and complains that MyClass.java is referencing a method in util.java that doesn't exist. Under project1, the method being referenced exists in util.java but under project1-test, the method doesn't. When I run MyClassTests.java, the util.java that is being referenced from MyClass.java is from project1-test when it should be project1. Is there some way to make MyClass.java not reference util.java from project1-test when running MyClassTest.java?

  • When can I find out the width/height of my view

    - by michael
When is the earliest I can find out the actual (after layout) width/height of my view? I tried to do that @Override protected void onFinishInflate() { super.onFinishInflate(); w = getWidth(); h = getHeight(); } But it gives me 0. I have cases in which the view is invisible in the beginning and that programmically become visible. I think I can do that in onDraw(), but i dont' want to do that in everything I draw() something.

What I've already done is updating the Widget directly from the Broadcast, but I like to just send de data back. public class UpdateManager extends BroadcastReceiver { @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { AppWidgetManager appWidgetManager = AppWidgetManager.getInstance(context); RemoteViews remoteViews = new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(), R.layout.widget); ComponentName thisWidget = new ComponentName(context, Widget.class); remoteViews.setTextViewText(R.id.widget_textview, "UPDATE DONE"); appWidgetManager.updateAppWidget(thisWidget, remoteViews); } }

  • Using Wordpress as a CMS to a site AND blog (two completely different layouts for each). Duplicate i

    - by Somebody still uses you MS-DOS
I'm going to create a website using Wordpress static pages feature. It's going to have a menu for all the created pages. A blog is going to be created as well. This blog has a completely different layout/menu from the main site, but within the same domain: "http://www.domain.com" is the website url, and "http://www.domain.com/blog/" is the blog url. I was thinking of installing two different Wordpress instances: /var/www/public_html/ and /var/www/public_html/blog/. Although it's a simple solution, users are going to be duplicated: if you change password in one system, you need to change in the other. So, I would like to know from you which other approaches are possible: create a "dynamic" theme (call a theme when in root domain, another whern /blog - dont even know if this is possible), or for example a plugin to syncronize users from both instances? Does Wordpress MU solve this problem for me? Thanks!

    - by metal-gear-solid
What is CSS? what should be the shortest and appropriate answer of this question? How simple we can explain , What is CSS ,just in words? mine answer is this Stands for "Cascading Style Sheet." Cascading style sheets are used to format the layout of Web pages. They can be used to define text styles, table sizes, and other aspects of Web pages that previously could only be defined in a page's HTML. Is it ok or it can be more perfect or shorten?

  • How can I get a Dialog style activity window to fill the screen?

    - by Matthias
I am using an activity with the dialog theme set, and I want it to be full screen. I tried all sorts of things, even going through the WindowManager to expand the window to full width and height manually, but nothing works. Apparently, a dialog window (or an activity with the dialog theme) will only expand according to its contents, but even that doesn't always work. For instance, I show a progress bar circle which has width and height set to FILL_PARENT (so does its layout container), but still, the dialog wraps around the much smaller progress bar instead of filling the screen. There must be a way of displaying something small inside a dialog window but have it expand to full screen size without its content resizing as well?
