  Each time we reinstalled Windows, it will create a new SID for user even the username is as same as before. // example (not real SID format, just show the problem) user SID -------------------- liuyan S-old-501 // old SID before reinstall liuyan S-new-501 // new SID after reinstall The annoying problem after reinstall is NTFS file owership and permissions on hard drive disk are still associated with old user's SID. I want to keep the ownership and permission setting of NTFS files, then want to let the new user take the old user's SID, so that I can access files as before without permission problem. The cacls command line tool can't be used in such situation, because the file does belongs to new user, so it will failed with Access is denied error. and it can't change ownership. Even if I can change the owership via SubInACL tool, cacls can't remove the old user's permission because the old user does not exist on new installation, and can't copy the old user's permission to new user. So, can we simply bind old user's SID to new user on the freshly installed Windows ?   I had problems with compiz setting and I make multiple accounts, now I want to transfer my information from all deleted users in my current account, some data I can not copy because I am not right to read, I type in terminal "sudo nautilus" and I get the permission for read, but the copied data is available only for superusers and I must charge the permissions for each file and each folder. How I can copy the information with out the superuser rights OR how I can charge the permissions for selected folder and all files and folders included in it?

• Login on VMWare XP guest machine keeps locking user AD account

  Environment: Windows 2003 AD Host: Windows 7 Pro VMWare Guest: Windows XP I use a normal user but I also have AD Admin rights (via another user). I use my AD account to login on the host as well on the aforementioned guest system. They don't share their profiles, so no problems here. I had reason to change my user (AD) password. When I did this, the guest was suspended but my user was logged in. A few days after my password change I resumed the guest. I was able to work but couldn't access networked mapped drives. I logged out and tried to log in again. At this point I realized that I initially was logged in with a user from a point before I changed my password. I logged in again with the new password, but then things went bad. I was able to successfully log in to my XP guest, however once that was completed, my AD user account got locked. This now also affected my user on the host. I was able to unlock the account, but there is still this problem: I log in via my new password into the guest and then my AD account gets locked. I'm successfully logged into the guest, but I can't access network shares from the AD server. If I don't unlock my account on the AD server, I will get further problems with my AD user. I tried multiple things, none worked: removed XP guest from AD, deleted all users, even my XP AD user profile on the guest, added machine to the AD, logged in - log in successful, account locked I resumed an older state of my guest (sometimes from the last year even) but the problem still persists. I tried this with disabled networking when the old machine state is resumed and so on, but no luck. It seems to me, although only my account is locked, this is somehow connected to the guest machine itself. I really want to avoid re-installation. This guest image was my old workstation which I virtualized once I moved to W7 pro and thus is still very valueable or me. I can work locally on the guest once logged in, but I can't access any network shares which is a problem. thanks

• How and when to log account access login with PHP?

  I want to implement a basic login system in some PHP app where no cookies will be involved. I mean, the user closes the browser and the login expires, it will remain active during the browser session (or if the user explicitly logs out) otherwise. I want to log all this activity and I'm thinking that every time the user refreshes the page, opens a different link or logs out, I record that time as the last access made by that user, overwriting the previous access log. But my problem is when and how should I insert another record into the database instead of overwriting the last one? Should I just define a timeout and if the last access was made above that timeout, another log should be inserted into the database? Should the session expire too after that timeout? Or is there a better way? Ideally, I would like to log the "log out action" when the browser was closed, but I don't think there's a way to detect that is there? Suggestions?

The navigation links and the previously ordered items that are usually on the left hand side of the page won't show up on the page, but if I change the reference name to "content" in the xml file, it shows up (except it's obviously then on the right hand side). I've checked the template it's referencing (2columns-left.phtml), and the getChildHtml('left') is there in the correct position. • One Account with many users authentication in rails

  Which approach would you recommend to the following issue: My app needs to have an account with several users inputting tasks on the same account. Only one of the users (the one that opened the account) will have admin privileges. Im thinking on using Authlogic for authentication and CanCan for determining user privileges. The point is that I'd like the User that opened the Account to be admin by default being him the only one to be able to generate other Users for his account with a different privileges. Thanks, CD

• How do I share files with someone who does not have a ubuntu one account

  I tried to search for an answer, except that, uhhh there is no search. I want to share a Ubuntu One folder with people who do not have a Ubuntu One account. Is that possible? I found this answer in the faq, "Yes! Since Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, Ubuntu One supports sharing files publicly. Right click on a file already synchronized by Ubuntu One and select "Publish via Ubuntu One". Right-click on the file again and select "Copy Ubuntu One public URL". You can now paste the URL and share it with whoever you want." That doesn't seem to help me with 11.04. There is no 'Publish via Ubuntu One' button in 11.04. Does anyone know if there is a way to share files with non-ubuntu users? If so, how? Thanks In Advance, Bob

I then filed a ticket and soon got the answer:'There are some one forging email accounts from your domain, and they have been sending out spam emails. So we do not want you here anymore, take your backup and go.' I am quite shocked by such attitude and more confused by the actions we should take under such situation. Should I take my back up and go? Should I ask them for more details? How can I prevent this from happening again in the future?

So the gateway we would need to give the merchant account info to would be either of those two. Though, the CRESecure method would have yet one more step added into the mix since they would forward data to another payment provider. It is now assumed that the best place to field this question is to the support team at Braintree or CRESecure.

  I had 4 accounts on UBuntu 11.10. The /home folder is in a separate partition. Now, after I reinstalled Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2, I manually created the remaining 3 usernames so that it can use the existing home locations. However, after creating the users i found that the usernames have got mapped to the other home folders. • Gnome 2 style user account settings (how to edit user accounts in Unity)

  Back in Gnome 2 there was a very useful user account editing gui tool whereby I could easily add or edit a user to a group. For example, I could give a standard user access to something that they hadn't installed or don't have default access too, such as Me-TV. How do I do this in Gnome 3 / Unity? I am not allowed to create the tag "edit user accounts" or similar and there isn't anything similar existing, strangely. I'm guessing there is a totally different way to edit user accounts or no one bothers - perhaps no one shares PCs anymore.

• Dependant care account, is it working for you?

  Well, NO.  my little three years old boys are very sick so I need to get them out of the day care.  they keep getting ear infection so bad even the ear tube is not working.  so, now do I give my $5000.00 to the government as a donation or keep my kids in the day care and loose the hearing?  what is going on? I was told I can change this Dependant care account ONLY in the case of a life change!  well, is not this a life change?  when a member of the family is very sick and has to go through an operation "Ear Tube", the operation does not work and keeps getting sick.  Would not this be a life change?

• Website address hacked, emails created but not showing in manage your account

  I have a website, thebleudoor.com. It is hosted by yahoo. It gets 2000-3000 hits a day and has been for at least 5 years. A few months ago, as admin of the website, I started getting bounced back emails from newly created emails like [email protected]. Yahoo only shows 2 emails for my account. They said they can't do anything about it. Now, my "spam hacked email accounts" are getting spam. They haven't altered or used my website or email or bank info, just the good name of my website. Is there anything I can do? Do I need to be concerned? Changing my provider won't really help will it? Thank you.

• Account Lockout with pam_tally2 in RHEL6

  I am using pam_tally2 to lockout accounts after 3 failed logins per policy, however, the connecting user does not receive the error indicating pam_tally2's action. (Via SSH.) I expect to see on the 4th attempt: Account locked due to 3 failed logins No combination of required or requisite or the order in the file seems to help. This is under Red Hat 6, and I am using /etc/pam.d/password-auth. The lockout does work as expected but the user does not receive the error described above. This causes a lot of confusion and frustration as they have no way of knowing why authentication fails when they are sure they are using the correct password. Implementation follows NSA's Guide to the Secure Conguration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. (pg.45) It's my understanding that that only thing changed in PAM is that /etc/pam.d/sshd now includes /etc/pam.d/password-auth instead of system-auth. If locking out accounts after a number of incorrect login attempts is required by your security policy, implement use of pam_tally2.so. To enforce password lockout, add the following to /etc/pam.d/system-auth. First, add to the top of the auth lines: auth required pam_tally2.so deny=5 onerr=fail unlock_time=900 Second, add to the top of the account lines: account required pam_tally2.so EDIT: I get the error message by resetting pam_tally2 during one of the login attempts. user@localhost's password: (bad password) Permission denied, please try again. user@localhost's password: (bad password) Permission denied, please try again.
