• Multisystem Script won't work! "Syntax error:redirection unexpected" Worked 2 days ago?

  this is my first question. I use Multisystem all of the time and have installed it on both Kubuntu and Ubuntu and have used it with no issues. I wiped my hard drive to try some new OSs I'm now using the exact same OS (Ubuntu 12.05) I used to load my USB stick to begin with and now I'm getting this ridiculous syntax error. I know the script is correct, I'm following the exact same steps I used to get to this point and I'm getting different results ?!?! I'm very confused by this. I have no clue how to begin addressing this issue. I get the same syntax error on Kubuntu now too, which did have multisystem installed. I run "sh install-depot-multisystem.sh" and get "Syntax error:redirection unexpected", this worked literally 2 days ago. The only thing that has changed is my face has grown some more facial hair and my head hurts from bangin it against the wall over this issue. The OS is exactly the same, the script is the same; but now it won't install. I'm lost and really hoping someone can help. Append Just to append to this a bit https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ub...er/000264.html I needed to do a chmod 777 on the script, I'm still getting a syntax error on Kubuntu...but it did install successfully. I'll mark this as resovled! Thanks anyway, I'll try to spruse up on my Linux skills.

• Should static analysis warnings fail the CI build?

  Our team is investigating various options for static analysis in our project, and have mixed opinions about whether we want our Continuous Integration build to fail because of warnings from static analysis. The argument against failing the build is that there are often exceptions to the rules, and attempting to work around them just to make the build succeed reduces productivity. A better approach would be to generate reports with the build, and regularly dedicate developer time to addressing the reported issues. The counter-argument is that it is easy for the technical debt to build up if the bugs are not addressed immediately. Also, if the build fails when a potential bug is introduced, the amount of time required to fix it is reduced. What are your thoughts?

• WCF Service Authentication problem?

  I have an application which exposes lots of interfaces via net.tcp protocol, using both SecurityMode.Transport and SecurityMode.None (I really need support for both). My whole application is written in a DLL file. I have a form which consumes this DLL and now I made a Windows Service to consume this DLL. The problem is, when this windows service goes up, the insecure service throws this exception: Stream Security is required at http://www.w3.org/2005/08/addressing/anonymous, but no security context was negotiated. This is likely caused by the remote endpoint missing a StreamSecurityBindingElement from its binding. In the client side, nothing has changed. Is there any reason for this behaviour? The program is exactly the same. When I run the same test with the form app, it works... ps: I've already tried running the windows service as: SYSTEM, NETWORK SERVICE and my user account (which runs the form app) Thanks

  Hi All, I very often come across this question of why we have got lots of web frameworks addressing the same or similar drawbacks. when looking deeply, i also have given thought on why JSP / Servlets is not being used after the other web frameworks (like Struts, Spring MVC etc) have shown their existence? Is it because, the latest web frameworks does most of the things on its own? provides extensive features that is not available with Servlet / JSP? or the Servlet / JSP is impotent to deliver what latest framework does? • CFNetwork / NSURLConnection leak

  Running instruments on the device, I intermittently incur a memory leak of exactly 3.5 KB in CFNetwork, the responsible frame being "HostLookup_Master::HostLookup...." I have read a number of questions re this issue and have separately tried the following to fix the leak: Included the following in applicationDidFinishLaunching: NSURLCache *sharedCache = [[NSURLCache alloc] initWithMemoryCapacity:0 diskCapacity:0 diskPath:nil]; [NSURLCache setSharedURLCache:sharedCache]; [sharedCache release]; Specified in the urlrequest not to load from the local cache. None of the above worked. My class that instantiates the connections does not leak as its instances are released when data has been downloaded. I have verified this by confirming the the living objects of the class is 0 using Instruments. Any advice on addressing this leak would be greatly appreciated.

  Apple's Technical Q&A on addressing flickering (QA1650) includes the following paragraph. (Emphasis mine.) You must provide a color to every pixel on the screen. At the beginning of your drawing code, it is a good idea to use glClear() to initialize the color buffer. A full-screen clear of each of your color, depth, and stencil buffers (if you're using them) at the start of a frame can also generally improve your application's performance. On other platforms, I've always found it to be an optimization to not clear the color buffer if you're going to draw to every pixel. (Why waste time filling the color buffer if you're just going to overwrite that clear color?) How can a call to glClear() improve performance?

  To find an Assembly programmer is very hard to help me I'm a established Delphi programmer that has an old copy of Delphi that is not .net And I have a *.dll that I'm converting into Delphi code for .net I'm on a big learning curve hear as i know little of .net yet. I've just got a computer with .net today!!!!!! I've run the *.dll through a dissembler and started putting jump links in as writing in Delphi assembly you do not do any addressing, just reference links. The file has fixed string structures (i think C++) ASCII & ANSI strings 1/ I do not know how to identify how the code references these structures 2/ and I do not know were the functions begin and what shape they look like The code is free for any one to look at their is not many functions in it. but I have to email it as stack over flow will not allow me to display it. • NUnit vs Visual Studio 2010's MSTest?

  I realise that there are many older questions addressing the general question of NUnit v MSTest for versions of Visual Studio up to 2008 (such as this one). Microsoft have a history of getting things right in their 3rd version. For MSTest, that is VS2010. Have they done so with MSTest? Would you use it in a new project in preference to NUnit? My specific concerns: speed running tests within CruiseControl.NET (either commandline or MSBuild task) code coverage reports from CC.NET can you run MSTest tests in debug mode (We use ReSharper, so test-runners are not an issue for us. We have used NUnit for the last few years. We do not have TFS.)

• How would I best address this object type heirachy? Some kind of enum heirarchy?

  I'm curious as to any solutions out there for addressing object heirarchies in an ORM approach (in this instance, using Entity Framework 4). I'm working through some docs on EF4 and trying to apply it to a simple inventory tracking program. The possible types for inventory to fall into are as follows: INVENTORY ITEM TYPES: Hardware PC Desktop Server Laptop Accessory Input (keyboards, scanners etc) Output (monitors, printers etc) Storage (USB sticks, tape drives etc) Communication (network cards, routers etc) Software What recommendations are there for handling enums in a situation like this? Are enums even the solution? I don't really want to have a ridiculously normalised database for such a relatively simple experiment (eg tables for InventoryType, InventorySubtype, InventoryTypeToSubtype etc). I don't really want to over-complicate my data model with each subtype being inherited even though no additional properties or methods are included (except PC types which would ideally have associated accessories and software but that's probably out of scope here). It feels like there should be a really simple, elegant solution to this but I can't put my finger on it. Any assistance or input appreciated!

• ZooKeeper and RabbitMQ/Qpid together - overkill or a good combination?

  Greetings, I'm evaluating some components for a multi-data center distributed system. We're going to be using message queues (via either RabbitMQ or Qpid) so agents can make asynchronous requests to other agents without worrying about addressing, routing, load balancing or retransmission. In many cases, the agents will be interacting with components that were not designed for highly concurrent access, so locking and cross-agent coordination will be needed to avoid race conditions. Also, we'd like the system to automatically respond to agent or data center failures. With the above use cases in mind, ZooKeeper seemed like it might be a good fit. But I'm wondering if trying to use both ZK and message queuing is overkill. It seems like what Zookeeper does could be accomplished by my own cluster manager using AMQP messaging, but that would be hard to get really right. On the other hand, I've seen some examples where ZooKeeper was used to implement message queuing, but I think RabbitMQ/Qpid are a more natural fit for that. Has anyone out there used a combination like this? Thanks in advance, -Chris

  I've just started at a new company in outsourced communications (e.g. print and mail, email, fax). One of the requirements is to process clients data and get it ready for mailing. For recurring jobs, this is easy using an ETL tool linked in with some addressing software, but for adhoc stuff it's a bit overkill. I've used inhouse developed stuff before (clunky but usable), but I don't want to have to re-develop that here. Any recommendations? Some features : Basic DBMS functionality (preferably with a proper DBMS backend for SQL support) Field concatenation (e.g. combine Firstname + Surname) "Pushing columns" (e.g. with address fields 1 - 8, push them left so if one is blank, the next one gets pushed up) Australia post mail sorting and dpid allocation (or can link into external tools relatively easily)

  I've just been reading about MSDeploy, the new website deployment tool from Microsoft. I'm developing an installer for a webapplication and a webservice to be used for our off-the-shelf product. I have a couple of questions that I couldn't find obvious answers to. Does MSDeploy have robust support for upgrading websites after the initial deployment? I can see MSDeploy has good support for the initial deployment of databases. But does it have support for upgrading schemas whilst preserving the current data?   Hi I have a web application running in cluster mode with a load balancer. It consists in two tomcats (T1, and T2) addressing only one DB. T2 is nfs mounted to T1. This is the only dofference between both nodes. I have a java method generating some files. If the request runs on T1 there is no problem but if the request is running on node 2 I get an exception as follows: java.io.IOException: Invalid argument at java.io.FileOutputStream.close0(Native Method) at java.io.FileOutputStream.close(FileOutputStream.java:279) The corresponding code is as follows: for (int i = 0; i < dataFileList.size(); i++) { outputFileName = outputFolder + fileNameList.get(i); FileOutputStream fileOut = new FileOutputStream(outputFileName); fileOut.write(dataFileList.get(i), 0, dataFileList.get(i).length); fileOut.flush(); fileOut.close(); } The exception appears at the fileOut.close() Any hint?   I have been having difficulty simply writing a Visual Studio Editor Extension with MEF (Managed Extensiblity Framework). I thank those who answered my previous question, as they helped me know that I need to work with MEF. I've been trying to learn MEF for the Visual Studio Editor from MSDN's page, Extending the Editor, but it appears that I have a hard time understanding it. Can anyone provide strong resource or tutorials in addressing problem such as using the right ContentTypeDefintion (IGlyphFactory, TextMarkTag, etc...), and what is a ITagger. I need to understand these things, as most of the walkthrough only extending the text, such as only using the "spans" functionality, while I need to use "selection" methods and use MouseEventHandlers. Does anyone know an example similiar to my example, or references can tell me something about MEF's for VS editor in-depth?

• Mapping of relative path to absolute path of webpage links

  I am Final Year IT Engineering student. I am Doing Content Management System in ASP.net for my college. I have given link on my master page for various pages in the application; where I have specified only relative path of those pages. When I run this project and follow any link it works well for only first time and for second time when I click any link it .net run time environment unable to find the absolute address of that page. This may be problem due to relative addressing. How can I resolve this problem? Can anybody help me out?

  I'm in the process of doing some identity consolidation, so I'm providing URLs to me at various locations on the internet. I'm quite active on IRC, so this naturally lead me to wonder whether there was a way to provide a link to my IRC presence. This lead to me finding http://www.w3.org/Addressing/draft-mirashi-url-irc-01.txt which appears to be a draft of an RFC for associating URLs with IRC, which suggests that I would be irc://irc.freenode.net/DRMacIver,isnick Which seems a little on the lame side. Further, this RFC draft has very thoroughly expired (February 28 1997). On the other hand it seems to be implemented in chatzilla at least: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/rt-messaging/chatzilla/irc-urls.html So does anyone know if there's a superseding RFC and/or any other de facto standard for this?

• Problem with superfish submenu being trimmed by content in Firefox

  Greetings, I have a problem which would seem to involve some kind of z-index issue, but for a change it's in everything except IE. If you take a look at http://cougar.motivo.com.au/ in anything except Internet Explorer and hover over the last menu item "Contact Us" you can se what I'm referring to. Basically the supersub menu appears to be being trimmed by the width of the element below it. You can see via the source that I've tried setting z-indexes & position:relative, but at this point I'm stumped. Any and all input would be gratefully received :) P.S. I am aware that there are still a couple of issues in IE6. I am yet to have the pleasure of addressing those (groans).

• How to handle customers with multiple addresses in CakePHP

  I'm putting together a system to track customer orders. Each order will have three addresses; a Main contact address, a billing address and a shipping address. I do not want to have columns in my orders table for the three addresses, I'd like to reference them from a separate table and have some way to enumerate the entry so I can determine if the addressing is main, shipping or billing. Does it make sense to create a column in the address table for AddressType and enumerate that or create another table - AddressTypes - that defines the address enumeration and link to that table? I have found other questions that touch on this topic and that is where I've taken my model. The problem I'm having is taking that into the cakePHP convention. I've been struggling to internalize the direction OneToMany relationships are formed - the way the documentation states feels backwards to me. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

  I wonder if there are any good practices for addressing Spring controllers in JSP. Suppose I have controller: @Controller class FooController { // Don't bother about semantic of this query right now @RequestMapping("/search/{applicationId}") public String handleSearch(@PathVariable String applicationId) { [...] } } Of course in JSP I can write: <c:url value="/search/${application.id}" /> But it's very hard to change url then. If you familiar with Rails/Grails then you now how this problem resolved: redirect_to(:controller => 'foo', :action = 'search') But in Spring there is so much UrlMappers. Each UrlMapper have own semantic and binding scheme. Rails alike scheme simply doesn't work (unless you implement it yourself). And my question is: are there any more convenient ways to address controller from JSP in Spring?

• Is it possible to use JavaScript to break the HTML of a page?

  I've been asked at work whether it is possible to write, on purpose or by accident, JavaScript that will remove specific characters from a HTML document and thus break the HTML. An example would be adding some JavaScript that removes the < symbol in the page. I've tried searching online and I know JavaScript can replace strings, but my knowledge of the language is negligible. I've been asked to look into it as a way of hopefully addressing why a site I work on needs to have controls over who can add bespoke functionality to the page. I'm hoping it's not possible but would be grateful for the peace of mind!
