  • Calculating co-ordinate of a point on a path given a distance

    I'm working on a project that surveys the condition of a road or highway using a calibrated trip computer connected to a rugged-PC. An operator keys in defect codes as they travel along a pre-defined route. I need to show an indicator on the map screen that shows the vehicles current position, taking into account the distance data from the trip computer. I know the exact lat lon co-ordinates at the starting point of each section of road, and the road is made up of a series of points. The question is: how can I calculate the lat lon co-ordinates of the vehicle assuming that it has continued on the route and traveled a certain distance (e.g. 1.4km). The co-ordinates would be 'locked onto' the road line, as shown in blue on the diagram below. Thanks, Alex

  • Get status of servlet request before the response is returned

    Good evening, I am in the process of writing a Java Servlet (Struts 2, Tomcat, JSP etc) which is capable of doing some fairly complex simulations. These can take up to 2 minutes to complete on the and will return a graph of the results. It is trivial to calculate the percentage of the simulation completed because the process works by repeating the same calculations 1000s of times. I would be interested to know if anyone has ever tried to use client side technology to provide any estimate of the percentage complete. I.e query the servlet processing to get the number of cycles completed at various point throughout the simulation. This could then be displayed as a bar in the client browser. Any thoughts, advice, resources would be much appreciated. Thanks, Alex

  • Requirements of an issue/bug tracker

    I've been looking at various issue/bug trackers available on the net. There are some very good ones, but I'm unable to use them as my server does not support Perl/Ruby (for example), I'm not too bothered however because I am able to write code in PHP and as such would prefer something in that language. So I've taken it upon myself to write a custom issue tracker system. As of now it's in early planning stages, and before I continue, I'd like to find out what people need from such an application. My current list of things to add include: Creating/Editing/Deleting issues - both on user and admin level Related issues (similar to that of STO) Admins will be able to create builds/milestones and version control of projects Admins will be able to assign users/groups to a project Roadmap of projects Possible SVN integration with Git? What do you think? There are a couple more things I'd like to add, but I'm sure you'll think of a better way of adding such feature. What would you like to see from an issue tracker?

  • Reporting Services keeps erasing my dataset parameters

    I'm using a web service and every time I change something on the dataset, it erases all my parameters. The weird thing is, I can execute the web service call from the data tab and it prompts for all my parameters, but if I click to edit the data the list is empty or if I try to preview the report it blows up because parameters are missing. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if there is a way to prevent this behavior. Here is a copy of the dataset, not that I think it matters. This has to be the most annoying bug (if its a bug) ever. I can't even execute the dataset from the designer without it erasing my parameter list. When you have about 10 parameters and you are making all kinds of changes to a new report, it becomes very tedious to be constantly re-typing the same list over and over.   • Simplest way to use NSTableView?

    Can I use NSTableView like I've used ListView in Windows? By that I mean JUST adding rows to the view. I need to display a very simple two columned table and I don't want to write all this data related crap. Can I just 'add' stuff to a table view? If not what is the simplest way to do what I'm trying to do (preferably without data sources)?

  • WCF high instance count: anyone knows negative sideffects?

    Hi there! Did anyone experience or know of negative side effects from having a high service instance count like 60k? Aside from the memory consumption of course. I am planning to increase the threshold for the maximum allowed instance count in our production environments. I am basically sick of severe production incidents just because "something" forgot to close a proxy properly. I plan to go to something like 60k instances which will allow the service to survive using default session timeouts at a call rate average for our clients. Thanks, Alex

  • What is the difference between MVC model 1 and model 2?

    I've recently discovered that MVC is supposed to have two different flavors, model one and model two. I'm supposed to give a presentation on MVC1 and I was instructed that "it's not the web based version, that is refered to as MVC2". As the presentations are about design patterns in general, I doubt that this separation is related to Java (I found some info on Sun's site, but it seemed far off) or ASP. I have a pretty good understanding of what MVC is and I've used several (web) frameworks that enforce it, but this terminology is new to me. How is the web-based version different from other MVC (I'm guessing GUI) implementations? Does it have something to do with the stateless nature of HTTP? Thanks, Alex

  • How to have an iCalendar (RFC 2445) repeat YEARLY with duration

    I have been unsuccessful in formulating a RRULE that would allow an event as shown below: Repeats YEARLY, from first Sunday of April to last day of May, occuring on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, until forever. FREQ=YEARLY;BYMONTH=4;BYDAY=SU (gives me the first Sunday of April repeating yearly) and FREQ=YEARLY;BYMONTH=5;BYMONTHDAY=-1 (gives me the last day of May repeating yearly) But I can't figure out how to have the event repeat yearly between those dates for Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Suggestions? Update: Comments don't have enough space to respond to Chris' answer, so I am editing the question with further information. Unfortunately, no. I don't know if it is the DDay.iCal library I'm using, or what, but that doesn't work either. I've found that the date start can't be an ordinal date (first Sunday, etc.)..it has to be a specific date, which makes it difficult for my requirements.   • "Circuit breaker" for net.msmq?

    Hi, The Circuit Breaker pattern, from the book Release It!, protects a service from requests while it is failing (or recovering). The net.msmq binding used with transactions give us nice retry and poison message capabilities. But I am missing the implementation of such a "Circuit breaker" pattern. A service is put under even heavier load by retries while it is already in a failure condition (like DB connectivity issues causing loads of blocked threads etc.). Anyone knows about a behavior extension or similar that explicitly closes the service host when defined failure thresholds have been exceeded? Cheers, Alex

  • Optional attribute values in MappedField

    I'm new to Scala and Lift, coming from a slightly odd background in PLT Scheme. I've done a quick search on this topic and found lots of questions but no answers. I'm probably looking in the wrong place. I've been working my way through tutorials on using Mapper to create database-backed objects, and I've hit a stumbling block: what types should be used to stored optional attribute values. For example, a simple ToDo object might comprise a title and an optional deadline (e.g. http://rememberthemilk.com). The former would be a MappedString, but the latter could not be a MappedDateTime since the type constraints on the field require, say, defaultValue to return a Date (rather than a Date or null/false/???). Is an underlying NULL handled by the MappedField subclasses? Or are there optional equivalents to things like MappedInt, MappedString, MappedDateTime that allow the value to be NULL in the database? Or am I approaching this in the wrong way?

  • ASP.NET MVC v1 project upgraded to VS 2010 no longer will debug. Why?

    I'm getting the message "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document." I have a S#arp Architecture project (ASP.NET MVC v1) that has been opened and upgraded to be used in VS 2010. I can no longer debug the project. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate. I have IE set to be my default browser. I have the build set to debug. System.Web.Mvc is referenced in my project's lib dir. I've cleaned the solution. I've recompiled the solution. It's set to use .NET Framework 3.5. PDBs are being created and dropped into the bin directory with the DLLs. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    What is the fastest way of converting a quadrilateral (made up of foyr x,y points) to a triangle strip? I'm well aware of the general triangulation algorithms that exist, but I need a short, well optimized algorithm that deals with quadrilaterals only.   • Data loss between conversion

    Why is it that I loose data between the conversions below even though both types take up the same amount of space? If the conversion was done bitwise, it should be true that x = z unless data is being stripped during the conversion, right?
