• IO.Directory.Exists always returns true

  I am executing a IO.Directory.Exists on a network share from an ASP.NET application running under a specific Application Pool with a specific user account. The call always returns true. I have tried several variations: \\server\share$\directory \\192.168.0.1\share$\directory H:\directory I have checked that directory and share permissions are available to the account. The path does have spaces in it \\server\share$\directory\name name\test test, which should make no difference, however I have read otherwise. I will continue to check permissions, as it does work from my local machine (with the built in VS web-server and I am an administrator on the network), but when deployed to the IIS 6.0 virtual directory, and run under the Application Pool, it does not work.

• Make Directory.GetFiles() ignore protected folders

  Hello Everyone, I'm using the Directory.GetFiles() method to get a list of files to operate on. This method throws an UnauthorizedAccessException for example when trying to access a protected folder. I would like it to simply skip over such folders and continue. How can I accomplish this with either Directory.GetFiles (preferably) or another method? Update: Here is the code that throws the exception. I am asking the user to select a directory and then retrieving the list of files. I commented out the code (so this is now whole method) that iterates through the files and the problem still occurs. The exception is thrown on the Directory.GetFiles() line. • opening adobe reader results in infinite explorer.exe process creation loop

  First, apologies if the answer to this is only a Google away. I tried, honest I did. But I wasn't able to find anything about this problem posted elsewhere. I'm using Adobe Reader v9.3.2 in Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. If you want more system details, then just request them. What happens is that when I attempt to open a PDF by clicking "Open" on it then (1) adobe reader never opens and (2) the explorer.exe program is (apparently) recursively opened. I base this on opening the Task Manager and seeing a long list of explorer.exe processes under the "Processes" tab. Usually there is only one. When I recreate this problem, the list of explorer.exe processes are at least a page or two long. (Too many to bother counting). I "correct" this problem by logging off and then logging back on. This kills all the explorer.exe tasks. Unfortunately I don't know another way to terminate them all. Now here's the curious part. This only happens when I attempt to "Open" a PDF file. If instead I use the context menu (right mouse click on the PDF) and select "Open with" and "Adobe Reader 9.3" then Adobe Reader opens the file with no problem. It seems that there is something wrong with the setting for the default open action for PDF files. However, I have been unable to fix this by changing the Windows setting. Here is what I have tried. When I open Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Default Programs > Set Associations I do not find an entry for file type .pdf. There are only entries for .pdfxml and .pdx. When use "Open with" on a PDF file and select "Choose default program", the check box for "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is disabled (greyed out). I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader but the problem persists. While obviously no lives are at stake here, this problem is annoying the frickin' heck out of me. If I forget and recreate this bug then I have to stop everything I'm doing to stop it. Any suggestions on how I might go about fixing this?

I know how to do this in various programming languages but cannot manage to get it right on the windows command line :-( I would expect something like either for(int i = 0; i < 100; i++) { // do something } or even this (though not entirely seriously) 1.upto(100, { // do something }) Thanks! EDIT I can write a program in java, perl, c or whatever that will generate a bat script that looks like this for %%N in (1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12) do echo %%N and so on. Or even "better": echo 1 echo 2 echo 3 echo 4 echo 5 echo 6 echo 7 echo 8 echo 9 echo 10 echo 11 echo 12 and then execute it... But the thing is that I need a concise way to specify a range of numbers to iterate through within the script. Thanks!

  Hello there, I am making my first RSS-Feed, and I want to host it like this: www.example.com/rss/ I tried to name the xml-file "index.xml" and place it inside the directory, however, when I type http://www.example.com/rss/ i arrive at "Index of /rss" where the file is listed as being part of the directory, but it is not loaded automatically. • Complete Active Directory redesign and GPO application

  after much testing and hundreds of tries and hours invested I decided to consult you experts here. Overview: I want to apply some GPO to our users which will add some specific site to the Trusted Sites in Internet Explorer settings for all users. However, the more I try the more confusing the results become. The GPO is either applied to one group of users, or to another one. Finally, I came to the conclusion that this weird behavior is cause rather by the poor organization in Users and Groups in Active Directory. As such I want to kick the problem from the root: Redesign the Active Directory Users and Groups. Scenario: There is one Domain Controller, and we use Terminal Services (so there is a Terminal Server as well). Users usually log on to the Terminal Server using Remote Desktop to perform their daily tasks. I would classify the users in the following way: IT: Admins, Software Development Business: Administration, Management The current structure of the Active Directory Users and Groups is a result of the previous IT management. The company has used Small Business Server which has created multiple default user groups and containers. Unfortunately, the guys working before me have do no documentation at all. Now, as I inherit this structure I am in the no mans land. No idea which direction to head first. As you can see, the Active Directory User and Groups have become a bit confusing. There is no SBS anymore, but when migrating from SBS to the current Windows Server 2008 R2 environment the guys before me have simply copied the same structure. The real question: Where should I start cleaning from, ensuring that I won't break totally the current infrastructure? What is a nice organization for the scenario that I have explained above? Possible useful info for the current structure: Computers folder contains Terminal Services Computers user group Members: TerminalServer computer located at Server -> Terminalserver OU Member of: NONE Foreign Security Principals : EMPTY Managed Service Accounts : EMPTY Microsoft Exchange Security Groups : not sure if needed, our emails are administered by external service provider Distribution Groups : not sure if needed Security Groups : there are couple of groups which are needed SBS users : contains all the users Terminalserver : contains only the TerminalServer machine

• On Linux, why does directory tab completion add a \ to a path starting with ~

  On my work scientific linux 6.2 machine, I often start typing in a directory like below and use tab completion to finish it: ~/mydir But when I hit tab, it becomes e.g. \~/mydirectory/ With an extra forward slash at the start. Why is this, and can I prevent it? It's a pain because using cd etc. doesn't work with the extra slash, I have to start from the actual home directory which is something like /home/username/ On these PCs.

• jenkins 1.417 versus Active Directory

  I have a brand new installation of Jenkins 1.417 on Ubuntu 11.6, trying to talk to an active directory. I have the Active Directory plugin installed. If I leave off the base DN and password, the 'test' button claims success, while actual authentication fails. If I put in a user name and password on the domain, the test button fails (just as above). Is there some tweak required to the AD configuration to allow something like Jenkins to talk to it?

  Okay i have what may seem a really easy to solve problem but i've been trying to solve it for days. I'm trying to deploy a asp.net MVC2 application to a IIS 5.1 server running Windows XP Pro. (it's actually the default MVC2 app) However when i deploy, the only thing i'm able to see is a Directory listing. I tried a lot of stuff but can't get it to display anything other than the directory listing. hopefully i'm just a noob who forgot to add something, thanks for your answer :)

  I have some applications that I'd like to stay with my user forever. I've invested a lot of time in customizing them, and doing it from the start would be rather annoying. To that end, I'm thinking about moving them inside my Users folder, as it is the most redundantly-backed up directory on my computer. Are there any concerns associated with running software inside the Users directory, save for updating absolute paths? File permissions and security come to mind.

• Going to directory using bash variables doesn't work when directory names have spaces

  Let's say I want to store the following command in a variable cd "/cygdrive/c/Program Files/" So I do this dir="cd \"/cygdrive/c/Program Files/\"" That should store the command to navigate to the Program Files directory, so when I type $dir it takes me to that directory. To check that the quotations have been properly escaped, I type echo $dir which gives me cd "/cygdrive/c/Program Files/" So everything should be working fine. However, when I type, $dir I get bash: cd: "/cygdrive/c/Program: No such file or directory What am I doing wrong? I'm using Cygwin, but I assume this problem applies to bash in general.

  I have a domain dedicated for my local server (.dev), and an .htaccess file which redirects requests like http://folder.dev/subfolder/ to /htdocs/folder/subfolder. It works great and all, except for one minor issue. When I have the Directory Listing enabled, I can access all the folders, subfolders and files properly, except when I click on the Parent Directory link, which, for example, should lead to http://folder.dev, but redirects to http://folder.dev/folder/ and consequently throws 404 not found. Similarly, if Parent Directory should link to http://folder.dev/subfolder/, it links to http://folder.dev/folder/subfolder/.   Hello, I'm designing event loop for asynchronous socket IO using epoll/devpoll/kqueue/poll/select (including windows-select). I have two options of performing, IO operation: Non-blocking mode, poll on EAGAIN Set socket to non-blocking mode. Read/Write to socket. If operation succeeds, post completion notification to event loop. If I get EAGAIN, add socket to "select list" and poll socket. Polling mode: poll and then execute Add socket to select list and poll it. Wait for notification that it is readable writable read/write Post completion notification to event loop of sucseeds To me it looks like first would require less system calls when using in normal mode, especially for writing to socket (buffers are quite big). Also it looks like that it would be possible to reduce the overhead over number of "select" executions, especially it is nice when you do not have something that scales well as epoll/devpoll/kqueue. Questions: Are there any advantages of the second approach? Are there any portability issues with non-blocking operations on sockets/file descriptors over numerous operating systems: Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, MacOSX, Windows. Notes: Please do not suggest using existing event-loop/socket-api implementations

  This loop works fine but prematurely quits at times. I set a piece of code in it so that I can view the random number. It only closes prematurely when the random number is equal to the highest numbered question the user inputs (Example...a user wants 10 questions, if the random number is 10 the program quits.) • seriouosly elusive for loop (racking my brains!)

  I've got a loop issue in Python 2.72 that's really frustrating me. • How do I best remove an entity from my game loop when it is dead?

  Ok so I have a big list of all my entities which I loop through and update. In AS3 I can store this as an Array (dynamic length, untyped), a Vector (typed) or a linked list (not native). At the moment I'm using Array but I plan to change to Vector or linked list if it is faster. Anyway, my question, when an Entity is destroyed, how should I remove it from the list? I could null its position, splice it out or just set a flag on it to say "skip over me, I'm dead." I'm pooling my entities, so an Entity that is dead is quite likely to be alive again at some point. For each type of collection what is my best strategy, and which combination of collection type and removal method will work best?

• Active Directory LDAP and user issues (using apache2 for svn access)

  I currently have a setup where I work that lets users use their active directory domain logins and passwords to authenticate and authorize access to Subversion. Currently I need to allow application accounts the same access. So our IT group creates application accounts in the active directory for us to use. But they want to be "secure" so they set the "Workstations Allowed" to be only a limited number of workstations. So when an application account hits the apache2 server for authentication they can't login for some reason and I'm having a heck of a time trying to debug. • Authenticating Active Directory Users to Mac OS X Mavericks Server L2TP VPN Service

  We have a Windows Server 2012 Active Directory Infrastructure that consists of two domain controllers. Bound to the Active Directory Domain is a Mac OS X Mavericks Server 10.9.3. The server runs Profile Manager and VPN Services. My Active Directory users are able to authenticate to the Profile Manager, but not the VPN. I have found several threads on other forums of other users reporting similar issues, here is just one of many references: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5174619 It appears as though the issue is related to a CHAP authentication failure. Can anyone suggest what next troubleshooting steps I might take? Is there a way to liberalize the authentication mechanism to include MSCHAP? Here is an excerpt of the transaction from the logs. • Windows Share authentication from Active Directory Linux login

  I'm using Active Directory to log into RHEL. To do this, I followed the steps outlined here: http://www.markwilson.co.uk/blog/2007/05/using-active-directory-to-authenticate-users-on-a-linux-computer.htm I'd like to be able to read data from Windows Servers shared folders without being prompted for a password. On Windows I log into an AD domain, and when I access windows file shares on a server on the LAN (also part of the AD domain) my I can just access them with no authentication step. I've used SMBclient on Linux to access these shares, but it asks for my password. I would like to be able to script access to the data on the shares, but I can't if there's a password prompt in the way. Well, I could, but it's not how I want to do it. Now, since I'm logged in using my active directory username & password, can't I just access the shares without jumping that extra hoop? I know I can mount the share using something like: //192.168.0.5/share /mnt/windows cifs auto,username=steve,password=secret,rw 0 0 but access will depend who is logged in... each user logging in should have their own unique AD access privelages.
