• xrander detect only one display

  Hi all, i have a problem, to get a picture on my tv over VGA (and also over S-Video to SCART). I've tried it first over xorg, but without success. • How to Find Out What Version of Display Driver is Installed

  One of my favorite games, "Wolfenstein Enemy Territory", has stopped working lately. It throws a segfault during the initialization phase. I suspect that the reason is a recent update to the video card driver. The problem started after I updated Ubuntu but I do not remember if there was a driver update in the list. My question is how can I check this. How can I view the current version of the display driver installed and the date it was last updated? If I discover that this is indeed the problem, will it be possible to revert the update and stay with the previous version of the driver?

• Software to replicate one computers display onto many other displays

  We have a classroom setup with one teachers pc at the front. I am looking for some software, preferably open source although this is not a deal breaker, to force all displays in the room to replicate the teachers display. Also if this software could be locked so the students could not exit this software while it was running. Does anyone know of any software that could perform this task? I have googled around for a solution but haven't found anything suitable as yet. It would be running on Windows 7 Flavours of the software I have found are: Lanschool and NetOp. Open source alternatives would be better.

• No display but video card fans spins

  Since I moved my computer there's no display when I plug my screen in the video card but works fine in the mother board. I tried reseting the cmos, but I still have the same problem. The fans are spining and there's a light from the card. I tried the DVI ports and the HDMI Here's my build. I have it for 2 months and everything was working fine. Do you think it's the video card? • Portable Display doesn't work anymore

  My USB portable monitor will not work since I installed the hard drive onto an HP laptop. I have installed all the new hardware drivers and do not have any more device issues in device manager view. My old laptop was a lenovo. The new one is an HP. The system seems to recognize devices that I connect via, usb but the portable display still does not show anything on the screen. It is probably a conflict in the registry but I'm not sure how to find it and the Power User does not have the luxury of letting me troubleshoot for hours to isolate the problem.

• Display issues on new OpenSUSE install

  I installed OpenSUSE 13.1 on my newly built PC, but the display is just horrible : the edges of the screen are missing. For example, I can't see all the top part, I can barely read the date and I see "ctivities" instead of "Activities". However, when I take a screenshot everything seems to be fine (the cursor doesn't appear though) the characters are sometimes too big and sometimes too small the cursor is huge and many other strange things. I took a few pictures I'm using an Intel integrated GPU (HD4400) and made all the possible updates with YaST. Any idea how I can fix this? Thanks

• Display errors using VMWare Player and Remote Desktop on Windows XP

  I've come up against a weird display issue that I can't seem to find any "fix" for. When I first boot up my computer, everything behaves normally. If I start to use VMWare Player and/or Remote Desktop, my desktop starts having some odd video issues. The frames for some windows aren't drawn at all, if I move windows around rapidly, the area under where the window used to be isn't cleared (still shows artifacts of the content of the window), etc. In some cases, the minimize / restore / maximize buttons aren't drawn (but are click-able if you can guess where they are). I've tried the usual stuff - current drivers all around, using a single monitor, etc.. none of it seems to have any bearing. If I try to disable hardware acceleration, it tends to crash the computer. As I said earlier, it's running Windows XP, dual monitors, an NVidia en8400GS video card, asus p7p55d motherboard. Not sure what other pertinent details are needed. I would appreciate any help or suggestions!

• Need an expert advice on *X display manager, window manager and composit manager combination

  Hello! I have fought with myself whether or not i should ask this question but I find myself stuck and I need another expert opinion. I can't seem find the right combination of display and window manager (and composit manager). I have tried so many different combinations but most of them don't work for me. I have been working with Linux for a few years now and currently I'm running Gentoo with GDM, Openbox(stand alone, Gnome aware) and xcompmgr. But I have tried Metacity, Awesome and Fluxbox with and without Compiz, but always with GDM. What I want: A lightweight, HIGHLY configurable environment that doesn't rely on mouse-input too much (except for web browsing and image processing). At 95% I work with multiple consoles and desktops on multiple screens. What makes me ask is that most lightweight environments seem somewhat "unfinished" and show unexpected behavior quite often. And of course I want an environment that's not TOO ugly to look at as I use it at an average of 10 hours a day. :) Any thoughts? What do you use in a similar situation? Thanks for any advice! (Please excuse my english as I'm from Germany, btw greetings from Berlin ;)))

• My EliteBook is not auto picking 1080p for external monitor, poor display on forcing

  I'm connecting my Samsung LED S22A300B to my HP EliteBook 6930p through VGA out. Laptop has Intel 4500MHD video card. I have latest drivers installed for both card and monitor. Only 800x600 and 1024x768 are shown. A lot of other people get this problem when they use it with docking station as discussed here. But I am not using any docking station. The monitor works great with my desktop though. As advised on the aforementioned page, one of the things I tried was to force the resolution using Intel's "custom resolution" feature. I installed PowerStrip on my desktop and copied advanced timing values(front/back porch,sync width, etc.) from there and then used the same values while defining a custom resolution in my laptop's Intel graphics utility. As a result, I got the 1080p resolution but the display is poor. Text has some weird colored shadow and sometimes on images too. What should I do?

• Closing laptop lid and using external display causes mouse to move on it's own

  I plugged my ASUS Taichi Laptop into an external monitor via the VGA Adapter that it comes with. It was working fine, but then I configured a power option so I could shut the lid without it going to sleep (so I could use just the external monitor with an external keyboard/mouse). Problem is though, now, when the lid is closed and I move the mouse, the mouse is moving around on it's own, but when I open the laptop lid back up, the mouse is fine. I looked under the lid when it was closed and the display properly shuts off on the laptop. It's not the external mouse/keyboard because I completely unplugged them and it was still happening. Nobody is hacking me or anything, I totally went into airplane mode/pulled the wire. I have a touchscreen, but I put a piece of paper over it and it wasn't doing it. I was thinking it might be the trackpad being touched somehow by the screen when the lid is closed? But I went into windows 8 control panel options and I couldn't find anywhere to disable it (it sees the USB mouse I think).

Update: Actually we have launch a new site which this number drop significantly, so I am interested in knowing why the number was so high in the past.

• Fix hard-coded display setting without source (24-bit, need 32-bit)

  I wrote a program about 10 years ago in Visual Basic 6 which was basically a full-screen game similar to Breakout / Arkanoid but had 'demoscene'-style backgrounds. I found the program, but not the source code. Back then I hard-coded the display mode to 800x600x24, and the program crashes whenever I try to run it as a result. No virtual machine seems to support 24-bit display when the host display mode is 16/32-bit. It uses DirectX 7 so DOSBox is no use. I've tried all sorts of decompiler and at best they give me the form names and a bunch of assembly calls which mean nothing to me. The display mode setting was a DirectX 7 call but there's no clear reference to it in the decompilation. In this situation, is there any pointers on how I can: pin-point the function call in the program which is setting the display mode to 800x600x24 (ResHacker maybe?) and change the value being passed to it so it sets 800x600x32 view/intercept DirectX calls being made while it's running or if that's not possible, at least run the program in an environment that emulates a 24-bit display I don't need to recover the source code (as nice as it would be) so much as just want to get it running.

• Wrong getBounds() on LineScaleMode.NONE

  I have write a simple example that adds a canvas and draw a rectangle with stroke size 20 scale mode none. The problem is that if I call getBounds() first time I will get a correct result but after I call scale(); the getBounds() function will give me a wrong result. It will take in cosideration the stroke but stroke has scalemode to none and on the screen nothing happens but in the result I will have a x value smaller. • Mirroring a portion of the screen to an external display (in OSX)

  I would like to write a program that can mirror a portion of the main display into a new window. Ideally this new window could then be displayed on an external monitor. I have seen this uiltity for a flightsim that does this on a pc (a multifunction display extractor). MFDex http://trac2.assembla.com/lightnings..._x86_Setup.msi I have looked at screen magnifiers or vnc clients for ideas but I think I need to write something from scratch. I have tried to do some reading on osx programing but where do I start in terms of gaining access to the display? I somehow need to extract the graphics from a particular program. Is it best to go near the final output stage (the individual pixels sent to the display) or somewhere nearer the window management stage. Any ideas or pointers would be much appreciated. The system has an ATI Radeon Mobility HD 3200 chip. The result of installing the drivers is pretty devastatingly negative, with symptoms such as skewed content in windows, browser tabs and text boxes failing to refresh when their content changes. In fact, please excuse typos in this post, because I can't really see what I am typing. :) I also notice that HD video playback performance is no better - perhaps even worse - than prior to installing the drivers. • Why is my display name in Ubuntu Software Center some weird set of letters?

  In USC, after I submit a review, my display name is "Bnxdcty"... a swell name, but where did it come from? I have checked the ubuntu single sign on page, verified my nickname on there, changed it to something else and back again for good measure, but still my reviewer name is somehow still "Bnxdcty". I even unauthorized ubuntu software center and then re-opened it/authorized it to my account. Does this just appear as this to me and others see my correct user nickname? It doesn't bother as much as it confuses me. I just know it will be something stupid that everyone knows but me.

  I am in the process of collecting laptop recommendations for a friend. I need a way to show to her the size differences of the various formats (15" 4:3, 15" 16:9, 15" 16:10 .... up to 17.3") in a graphical way, so she can compare them to the laptop she currently has (15"). • Set Display Refresh Rate in OSX w/o External Utilities

  I have an iMac and an LG Flatron connected as a secondary monitor. The recommended resolution for the flatron is 1680x1050 @ 65.290 Hz (horiz), 59.954 Hz (vert). For some reason, OSX is choosing a slightly different set of scan rates and this is currently my best guess of why the monitor goes into power saving mode when connected to the iMac (but works fine on a PC). Now, I resolved this by installing switchResX and fudging the scan rates according to the specs in the manual. But how does one change these rates w/o 3rd party tools? Which config files need editing? Thanks

• Mac always boots with incorrect display gamma (for years now including Lion)

  I think somewhere, something got installed but I have no idea what or how to fix it :( Basically, my old MacBook Pro running 10.5 Leopard had a problem where on boot it would show everything on the screen in a very sort of crunched color space. Everything below 15% white would just be pure black, everything above 85% white would be pure white and all colors look to be a touch more saturated. It's garish. To fix it, I found that I could boot into almost any fullscreen 3D game. When the game launches, the colors would still be off, but when I then quite the game and return the desktop everything is normal again. I've noticed Blizzard games work most reliably for this (World of Warcraft or Starcraft2). This problem has followed me through the years. When I upgraded to an iMac I migrated everything over to it, and the issue now happens on the iMac too. I then got a new MacBook Pro for work and migrated my iMac over to that, and it has the problem too. I had thought that it was an OS bug, but upgrading to 10.6 Snow Leopard didn't fix it and neither did 10.7 Lion. Furthermore I can't find any reference on any forum or help site where anyone else has this problem. If anyone has any idea what processes or settings or apps I should look at to figure out why this is happening I should would appreciate it! It looks sort of irresponsible when I open my laptop in the office to work and then boot up Starcraft 2 full screen...

• How to make my display Grayscale?

  I want to reduce the saturation of my laptop monitor to the point that it is almost grayscale. That's the goal. Intel and Asus don't have an answer. Asus Splendid and the intel graphics control panel can increase the saturation, but not lower it. I would prefer a software solution, although I DIY'ed a vga grayscale adapter for my desktop. I have an Asus UL30A with an Intel GMA 4500MHD. I know that the latest ATI cards, windotosh's and high end nvidia cards all support control panel desaturation. Why? black and white makes me 3 times more productive.
