    I want to make an hibernate querycount on a table. I have to values, one string and one boolean HibernateUtil.queryCount(VoteOnPublication.class, new String[] {VOTED_PUBLICATION_ID_FIELD, FOR_OR_AGAINST_FIELD}, **********); my voted_publication_id_field is a string, and my for or against field is a boolean. What should i put in my second part of the query ? I first put : new String[] {publication.getId(),true.toString() but that didnt work. i think the new String is the mistake but i dont know what to put

  • opengl es render but dont show on display

    i have written a object selection algorithm which picks the objects by there color. i give every object an unique color and then i just have to use the glReadPixels method to check which object was selected this works fine and is really fast but the problem is that the frame is displayed on the screen with all the picking-colors so the screen flashes every time you select something. so my question is: how do i write everything in the correct display buffer but dont display it on the screen to avoid these flashes?

  • Drawbacks to using background-repeat only for colors?

    So I need some custom colors on a layout, but I'm looking for a better way of doing it other than just slapping a giant picture with (background: url(something.jpg)) in the layout. Mostly I'm thinking of getting a color palette (i.e. from Adobe Kuler, colourlovers, etc.), getting a 5x5 sample of each color and sticking them in an array for CSS sprites or just as separate files and accessing them through: .color-one {transparent url(./one.gif) repeat} and just reusing that whenever I'd like to use the color. Are there any drawbacks to doing it this way? And if there are should I just stick with web-safe colors or is there a better way of doing this?

  • Code generating SOAP Web Service Proxy objects yourself - C#/.NET 3.5/T4

    Is there a framework or code already available that will give me more control over the code that gets generated based off my web references? I'm working at a new company. And the Web Services Proxies are all self contained in their own assembly. I would really rather generate this whole project. Every time they change something on the Services-side (Java) the WSDL references have to be dropped and re-added. (I can't figure out what those guys are doing on their end that messes with the WSDL bad enough that this needs to be done so much) Their are 10 of these references. I'd rather codegen the whole thing at compile time. Every time. What are my options?

  • An exception to avoid copy and paste code?

    There are many files in our project that would call a Facebook api. And the call is complicated, spanning usually 8 lines or more, just for the argument values. In this case, we can make it into a function, and place that function in a common_library.php, but doing so would just change the name of the function call from the Facebook API function to our name, and we still need to repeat the 8 lines of arguments. Each time, the call is very similar, but with slight variations to the argument values. In that case, would copy and paste be needed no matter what we do?

  • How do you make life easier for yourself when developing a really large database

    I am busy developing 2 web based systems with MySql databases and the amount of tables/views/stored routines is really becoming a lot and it is more and more challenging to handle the complexity. Now in programming languages we have namespacing e.g. Java packages, C++ namespaces to partition the software, grouping it together to make things more understandable. Databases on the other hand have more of a flat structure (MySql at least) e.g. tables and stored procedures are on the same level. So one have to be more creative, creating naming conventions, perhaps use more than one database or using tools to visualize things. What methods do you use to ease the pain? To be effective while developing your databases? To not get lost in a sea of tables and fields and stored procs? Feel free to mention tools you use also, but try to restrict it to open source and preferably Linux solutions if thats OK. b.t.w How many tables would a database have to be considered large in terms of design?

" I've also seen self-proclaimed senior programmers take more than 10-15 minutes to write a solution." For those that can't be bothered to read the article, the background is this: ....I set out to develop questions that can identify this kind of developer and came up with a class of questions I call "FizzBuzz Questions" named after a game children often play (or are made to play) in schools in the UK. An example of a Fizz-Buzz question is the following: Write a program that prints the numbers from 1 to 100. But for multiples of three print "Fizz" instead of the number and for the multiples of five print "Buzz". For numbers which are multiples of both three and five print "FizzBuzz". SO I decided to test myself. I took 5 minutes in C++ and 3mins in c#! So just for fun try it and post your timings + language used!     We used to be a Coldfusion development shop before hopping over to PHP in 2008, now we primarily develop custom Drupal websites. I enjoyed going from CF to PHP, but I feel like I am getting a bit stale. I have been looking at different things like Ruby, Python, Obj C (iPhone). The problem is, there just isn't enough time in the day. What would be a fun new thing to learn that would refresh me a bit and challenge myself to learn more?

    When you hold a key on the keyboard under Windows XP, the keyboard seems to send Key Down, Key Up repeatedly. However I am developing for a device where holding a key generates a "proper" key repeat, that is, lots of Key Down and then one Key Up when you release the button. I want to get the same behaviour under Windows to get our emulator to work as on he device. Is there anyway to acheive this? Do I need to get another keyboard driver? Thanks!

But suddenly today we found a row deleted that dont appears in the AUDIT table... Any idea how it can be done?

  • How to handle dates that repeat indefinitely

    I am implementing a fairly simple calendar on a website using PHP and MySQL. I want to be able to handle dates that repeat indefinitely and am not sure of the best way to do it. For a time limited repeating event it seems to make sense to just add each event within the timeframe into my db table and group them with some form of recursion id. But when there is no limit to how often the event repeats, is it better to a) put records in the db for a specific time frame (eg the next 2 years) and then periodically check and add new records as time goes by - The problem with this is that if someone is looking 3 years ahead, the event won't show up b) not actually have records for each event but instead when i check in my php code for events within a specified time period, calculate wether a repeated event will occur within this time period - The problem with this is that it means there isn't a specific record for each event which i can see being a pain when i then want to associate other info (attendance etc) with that event. It also seems like it might be a bit slow Has anyone tried either of these methods? If so how did it work out? Or is there some other ingenious crafty method i'm missing?

    I have been unsuccessful in formulating a RRULE that would allow an event as shown below: Repeats YEARLY, from first Sunday of April to last day of May, occuring on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, until forever. FREQ=YEARLY;BYMONTH=4;BYDAY=SU (gives me the first Sunday of April repeating yearly) and FREQ=YEARLY;BYMONTH=5;BYMONTHDAY=-1 (gives me the last day of May repeating yearly) But I can't figure out how to have the event repeat yearly between those dates for Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Suggestions? Update: Comments don't have enough space to respond to Chris' answer, so I am editing the question with further information. Unfortunately, no. I don't know if it is the DDay.iCal library I'm using, or what, but that doesn't work either. I've found that the date start can't be an ordinal date (first Sunday, etc.)..it has to be a specific date, which makes it difficult for my requirements.   • Multiple/repeat .replace on one page

    I've made a script which copies the ALT-tag of an image and puts it into a SPAN. It also formates the information devided by a hyphen. It works like a charm, but only with one image. Further more, I would like it to wrap a div around the image, to prevent unnecessary markup, as I have now.   • XMPP4R Callbacks dont seem to work

    Im using xmpp4r and trying to get the hang of a basic chat feature that I wish to implement later in my Rails app. My fundamentals on Ruby Threads is still a bit shaky so I would appreciate any help on this. Though I register the callback i dont get a response from my gmail account. I am able to send a message but my ruby program terminates. But after submission it reloads the current page as mentioned in the form action. But when I refresh the page to see the comment being added it asks to re submit. Actually, he was summarizing "Effective C++" by Scott Meyers: It's a book that basically says, C++ is enough rope to hang yourself, and then a couple of extra miles of rope, and then a couple of suicide pills that are disguised as M&Ms... I don't have a copy of the book, but there are indications that much of the book relates to pitfalls of managing memory which seem like would be rendered moot in C# because the runtime manages those issues for you. Here are my questions: Does C# avoid pitfalls that are avoided in C++ only by careful programming? If so, to what degree and how are they avoided? Are there new, different pitfalls in C# that a new C# programmer should be aware of? If so, why couldn't they be avoided by the design of C#?
