  • Java JTextPane JScrollPane Display Issue

    - by ikurtz
    The following class implements a chatGUI. When it runs okay the screen looks like this: Fine ChatGUI The problem is very often when i enter text of large length ie. 50 - 100 chars the gui goes crazy. the chat history box shrinks as shown in this image. Any ideas regarding what is causing this? • WCF Service, Java JApplet client, transport error 405

    - by Juan Zamudio
    Hi all, I'm having a problem with a WCF Service and Java Client, I will try to give as much information as i can, thanks for your time. The Endpoint of the server is BasicHttpBinding, I tried hosting the server as a Windows Service and in IIS but nothing changed. The weird thing is that the Client works great if I use a simple class, in the moment I switch the class to an JApplet I get the problem mentioned. I'm using Eclipse as an IDE, I tried Axis and Metro to generate the stub with the same bad results. Here is an example of the Java class where everything is working public class TestSoaMetro { public String TestMethod(){ String result=null; IDigitalSignatureService aa = new DigitalSignatureService().getBasicHttpBindingEndpoint(); try { result= aa.getData("1", "id002962"); } catch (IDigitalSignatureServiceGetDataArgumentExceptionFaultFaultMessage e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IDigitalSignatureServiceGetDataInvalidOperationExceptionFaultFaultMessage e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } return result; } } Here is the example of the JApplet where I get the error: public class TestSoaMetroApplet extends JApplet { public void init() { Container content = getContentPane(); content.setBackground(Color.white); content.setLayout(new FlowLayout()); String result= this.TestMethod(); JLabel label = new JLabel(result); content.add(label); } public String TestMethod(){ String result=null; IDigitalSignatureService aa = null; try { aa = new DigitalSignatureService().getBasicHttpBindingEndpoint(); result= aa.getData("1", "id002962"); } catch (IDigitalSignatureServiceGetDataArgumentExceptionFaultFaultMessage e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IDigitalSignatureServiceGetDataInvalidOperationExceptionFaultFaultMessage e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } return result; } } In the moment the Applet loads I get the error, is the exact same call so I don't understand why I get the exception using the Applet. I Also tried to call this from a Silverlight client and I was getting a security exception, this is where I found out about clientaccesspolicy.xml and crossdomain.xml, I added clientaccesspolicy.xml to the service and the Silverlight Client works great, so I decided to try crossdomain.xml and nothing, the Applet still does not work. I will put the stack trace at the end, thanks all for your time. • Fonts, goes back to default size

    - by Bladimir Ruiz
    Every time I change the font, it goes back to the default size, which is 12, even if I change it before with the "Tamano" menu, it only goes back to 12 every time, my guess would be the way I change the size with deriveFont(), but don't I now any other way to change it. public static class cambiar extends JFrame { public cambiar() { final Font aryal = new Font("Comic Sans MS", Font.PLAIN, 12); JFrame ventana = new JFrame("Cambios en el Texto!"); JPanel adentro = new JPanel(); final JLabel texto = new JLabel("Texto a Cambiar!"); texto.setFont(aryal); JMenuBar menu = new JMenuBar(); JMenu fuentes = new JMenu("Fuentes"); /* Elementos de Fuentes */ JMenuItem arial = new JMenuItem("Arial"); arial.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { Font arrrial = new Font("Arial", Font.PLAIN, 12); float tam = (float) texto.getFont().getSize(); String hola = String.valueOf(tam); texto.setFont(arrrial); texto.setFont(texto.getFont().deriveFont(tam)); } }); fuentes.add(arial); /* FIN Fuentes */ JMenu tamano = new JMenu("Tamano"); /* Elementos de Tamano */ JMenuItem font13 = new JMenuItem("13"); font13.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { texto.setFont(texto.getFont().deriveFont(23.0f)); } }); JMenuItem font14 = new JMenuItem("14"); arial.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { texto.setFont(aryal); } }); JMenuItem font15 = new JMenuItem("15"); arial.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { texto.setFont(aryal); } }); JMenuItem font16 = new JMenuItem("16"); arial.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { texto.setFont(aryal); } }); JMenuItem font17 = new JMenuItem("17"); arial.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { texto.setFont(aryal); } }); JMenuItem font18 = new JMenuItem("18"); arial.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { texto.setFont(aryal); } }); JMenuItem font19 = new JMenuItem("19"); arial.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { texto.setFont(aryal); } }); JMenuItem font20 = new JMenuItem("20"); arial.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { texto.setFont(aryal); } }); tamano.add(font13); /* FIN tanano */ JMenu tipo = new JMenu("Tipo"); /* Elementos de tipo */ /* FIN tipo */ /* Elementos del JMENU */ menu.add(fuentes); menu.add(tamano); menu.add(tipo); /* FIN JMENU */ /* Elementos del JPanel */ adentro.add(menu); adentro.add(texto); /* FIN JPanel */ /* Elementos del JFRAME */ ventana.add(adentro); ventana.setVisible(true); ventana.setSize(250, 250); /* FIN JFRAME */ } } Thanks in Advance!

  • JFrame not working correctly

    - by Nick Gibson
    This is making me very angry, I have worked on this for 2 days, have 2 books open and have looked through them, and STILL can't get this program to run the way I want it run. I'm getting to the point where if this doesn't help, I quit. I want a SIMPLE Frame application. It has a JComboBox centered at the top. Next to it is a text field big enough to show numeric digits such as "$49.99" Below it is a spot for a Text area showing terms of service Below that is the checkbox agreeing to the terms of service Below that is 2 buttons "Accept" and "Decline" I Have worked on this for 2 days, here is the coding: public class Bar extends JFrame implements ActionListener { public Bar(final JFrame frame) { String[] tests = { "A+ Certification", "Network+ Certification", "Security+ Certification", "CIT Full Test Package" }; JButton button = new JButton("Click Meh"); add(new JLabel("Welcome to the CIT Test Program ")); add(new JLabel("Please select which Test Package from the list below.")); frame.setVisible(true); frame.setSize(250,250); JPanel pane1 = new JPanel(new FlowLayout()); JPanel pane2 = new JPanel(new FlowLayout()); JMenuBar menuBar = new JMenuBar(); JMenu fileMenu = new JMenu("File"); JMenu editMenu = new JMenu("Edit"); JMenu helpMenu = new JMenu("Help"); menuBar.add(fileMenu); menuBar.add(editMenu); menuBar.add(helpMenu); JMenuItem newMenu = new JMenuItem("New (Ctrl+N)"); JMenuItem openMenu = new JMenuItem("Open (Ctrl+O)"); JMenuItem saveMenu = new JMenuItem("Save (Ctrl+S)"); saveMenu.addActionListener(this); JMenuItem exitMenu = new JMenuItem("Exit (Ctrl+W)"); JMenuItem cutMenu = new JMenuItem("Cut (Ctrl+X)"); JMenuItem copyMenu = new JMenuItem("Copy (Ctrl+C)"); JMenuItem pasteMenu = new JMenuItem("Paste (Ctrl+V)"); JMenuItem infoMenu = new JMenuItem("Help (Ctrl+H)"); fileMenu.add(newMenu); fileMenu.add(openMenu); fileMenu.add(saveMenu); fileMenu.add(exitMenu); editMenu.add(cutMenu); editMenu.add(copyMenu); editMenu.add(pasteMenu); helpMenu.add(infoMenu); frame.setJMenuBar(menuBar); JComboBox packageChoice = new JComboBox(tests); frame.add(packageChoice); } public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { Object source = e.getSource(); { } } EDIT: Forgot to add the second program public class JFrameWithPanel { public static void main(String[] args) { JPanel panel = new Bar(new JFrame("CIT Test Program")); } } How do I get this to have everything where I want it and show up? I'm very confused because of this and now barely even get how Frames work.

  • java gui changing picture causes heapspace error

    - by pie154
    I have a java programme than when a button is clicked it updates the image on screen to the according image. this will work for the first 15 or so clicks then it causes a java heapspace error. I think it is because of the way I am updating the jpanel that contains the bufferedimage but not sure what the reason is. My code to get make the JPanel contain the new image is, public class extraScreenPanel { static JPanel screenPanel = new JPanel(new BorderLayout()); public static JPanel extraScreenPanel(int dispNum) { JLabel label = new JLabel("" + dispNum + ""); label.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(800, 600)); //label.setUI( new VerticalLabelUI(true) ); label.setVerticalAlignment( SwingConstants.TOP ); screenPanel = imgDisp(dispNum); label.setForeground(Color.white); label.setFont(new Font("Serif", Font.BOLD, 200)); screenPanel.add(label, BorderLayout.PAGE_END ); return screenPanel; } public static JPanel imgDisp(int picNum) { /* String url[] = new String[5000]; String part1; url[0] = "C:/PiPhotoPic/pic16.jpg"; for(Integer i=1;i<5000;i++){ if(i<10){part1 = "C:/temp/new0000000";} else if(i<100){part1 = "C:/temp/new000000";} else if(i<1000){part1 = "C:/temp/new00000";} else {part1 = "C:/temp/new00000";} String num = Integer.toString(i); url[i]= part1 + num + ".jpg"; } if(picNum<0){picNum=0;} String ref = url[picNum];*/ //this code is just to get specific ref for image location BufferedImage loadImg = loadImage(ref); JImagePanel panel = new JImagePanel(loadImg, 0, 0); panel.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(800, 600)); return panel; } public static class JImagePanel extends JPanel{ private BufferedImage image; int x, y; public JImagePanel(BufferedImage image, int x, int y) { super(); this.image = image; this.x = x; this.y = y; } @Override protected void paintComponent(Graphics g) { super.paintComponent(g); g.drawImage(image, x, y, null); } } public static BufferedImage loadImage(String ref) { BufferedImage bimg = null; try { bimg = javax.imageio.ImageIO.read(new File(ref)); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } BufferedImage bimg2 = resize(bimg,800,600); return bimg2; } public static BufferedImage resize(BufferedImage img, int newW, int newH) { int w = img.getWidth(); int h = img.getHeight(); BufferedImage dimg = dimg = new BufferedImage(newW, newH, img.getType()); Graphics2D g = dimg.createGraphics(); g.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_INTERPOLATION, RenderingHints.VALUE_INTERPOLATION_BILINEAR); g.drawImage(img, 0, 0, newW, newH, 0, 0, w, h, null); g.dispose(); return dimg; } } And the code that updates my gui is, it works by removing the panel from its containg panel and then readding it to it. picPanel = imgDisp.imgDisp(num); repaintPicPanel(); public static void repaintPicPanel() { picPanel.removeAll(); menuPanel.remove(picPanel);; menuPanel.add(picPanel, BorderLayout.LINE_START); }

    Hello everyone My program is finished, but testing it out, i found out that the scrollpanel does not appear, it just resizes the JTextarea instead. The code is provided below: package javaapplication15; import java.awt.Container; import java.awt.FlowLayout; import java.awt.event.ActionEvent; import java.awt.event.ActionListener; import java.io.*; import java.io.IOException; import javax.swing.*; public class Tekstprogram extends JFrame { public Tekstprogram() { setSize(400, 600); setDefaultCloseOperation(EXIT_ON_CLOSE); setResizable(false); Container Indhold = getContentPane(); Indhold.setLayout(new FlowLayout()); JButton openButton = new JButton("Open"); JButton saveButton = new JButton("Save"); final JLabel statusbar = new JLabel("Output of your selection will go here"); final JTextArea TekstOmråde = new JTextArea(29, 30); JScrollPane scrollText = new JScrollPane(TekstOmråde); openButton.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae) { JFileChooser chooser = new JFileChooser(); chooser.setMultiSelectionEnabled(true); int option = chooser.showOpenDialog(Tekstprogram.this); if (option == JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION) { File[] sf = chooser.getSelectedFiles(); String filelist = "nothing"; if (sf.length > 0) { filelist = sf[0].getName(); } for (int i = 1; i < sf.length; i++) { filelist = filelist + ", " + sf[i].getName(); } try { String strLine; File selectedFile = chooser.getSelectedFile(); FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream(selectedFile); BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(in)); while ((strLine = br.readLine()) != null) { TekstOmråde.append(strLine + "\n"); } } catch (Exception e) { System.out.println("En fejl opstod ved" + e); } } } }); saveButton.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae) { JFileChooser chooser = new JFileChooser(); int option = chooser.showSaveDialog(Tekstprogram.this); if (option == JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION) { File file = chooser.getSelectedFile(); try { BufferedWriter out = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(file)); out.write(TekstOmråde.getText()); out.close(); } catch (IOException e) { System.out.println("IOException fejl opstod :"); e.printStackTrace(); } } } }); Indhold.add(openButton); Indhold.add(saveButton); Indhold.add(TekstOmråde); Indhold.add(scrollText); Indhold.add(statusbar); } public static void main(String args[]) { Tekstprogram sfc = new Tekstprogram(); sfc.setVisible(true); } } Is there anyway to make the JTexarea static?

  • How to get Rid of this strange Border on JButton in Windows System look and Feel?

    - by Timo J.
    I have a small Problem with the Layout of my Frame. As You could see in a picture (if i would have my 10 rep ;) ) there is a small Border around my JButtons. I'm already searching long time on this topic and i finally decided to ask for help, i'm just out of ideas. Is this Part of the Windows Theme which shouldn't be changed? It just doesnt fit into my current Layout, as I'm Listing TextBoxes and Comboboxes on Page Axis without any Border. I would be very happy if there is solution for this issue. Thanks in advance! EDIT 1: I do not mean the Focus Border. I like the Highlighting of a focussed Element. What i mean is the Border in the Background Color which causes a small distance of background-colored space beetween a JButton and another Element. (Picture on Personnal Webspace: http://tijamocobs.no-ip.biz/border_jbutton.png) EDIT 2: I'm using the Windows 8 Look and Feel but saw this Problem on Windows 7 Look and Feel, too. short Example import javax.swing.BoxLayout; import javax.swing.JButton; import javax.swing.JFrame; import javax.swing.UIManager; import javax.swing.UnsupportedLookAndFeelException; public class TestFrame extends JFrame { public TestFrame(){ setLayout(new BoxLayout(getContentPane(), BoxLayout.PAGE_AXIS)); for (int i = 0; i < 3; i++) { JButton btn = new JButton("."); // not working: // btn.setBorder(null); // btn.setBorder(BorderFactory.createEmptyBorder()); add(btn); } pack(); } public static void main(String[] args) throws ClassNotFoundException, InstantiationException, IllegalAccessException, UnsupportedLookAndFeelException { UIManager.setLookAndFeel(UIManager.getSystemLookAndFeelClassName()); TestFrame tiss = new TestFrame(); tiss.setVisible(true); } } Example Code (long version): import java.awt.BorderLayout; import java.awt.Container; import java.awt.Dimension; import javax.swing.Box; import javax.swing.BoxLayout; import javax.swing.JButton; import javax.swing.JComboBox; import javax.swing.JFrame; import javax.swing.JLabel; import javax.swing.JPanel; import javax.swing.UIManager; import javax.swing.UnsupportedLookAndFeelException; public class TestFrame extends JFrame { public TestFrame(){ JPanel muh = new JPanel(); muh.setLayout(new BoxLayout(muh, BoxLayout.PAGE_AXIS)); for (int i = 0; i < 3; i++) { Container c = new JPanel(); c.setLayout(new BoxLayout(c, BoxLayout.LINE_AXIS)); Box bx = Box.createHorizontalBox(); final String[] tmp = {"anything1","anything2"}; JComboBox<String> cmbbx = new JComboBox<String>(tmp); cmbbx.setMinimumSize(new Dimension(80,20)); bx.add(cmbbx); JButton btn = new JButton("."); btn.setMinimumSize(new Dimension(cmbbx.getMinimumSize().height,cmbbx.getMinimumSize().height)); btn.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(30,30)); btn.setMaximumSize(new Dimension(30,30)); bx.add(btn); c.setMaximumSize(new Dimension(Integer.MAX_VALUE,30)); c.add(new JLabel("Just anything")); c.add(bx); muh.add(c); } add(muh,BorderLayout.CENTER); pack(); } public static void main(String[] args) throws ClassNotFoundException, InstantiationException, IllegalAccessException, UnsupportedLookAndFeelException { UIManager.setLookAndFeel(UIManager.getSystemLookAndFeelClassName()); TestFrame tiss = new TestFrame(); tiss.setVisible(true); } }

  • using NetBeans for rotate a figure in a label [migrated]

    - by user134812
    I was reading this post: http://forums.netbeans.org/post-8864.html and what I have done so far is to make a jFrame in NetBeans, on it I have drawn a jPanel and inisde the panel I have drawn a jLabel on it and use the icon property to put an image on it; until now all is so far so good. I would like to make a program that everytime I click on the figure it rotates it to the right. Actually I have found the following code: public class RotateImage extends JPanel{ // Declare an Image object for us to use. Image image; // Create a constructor method public RotateImage(){ super(); // Load an image to play with. image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage("Duke_Blocks.gif"); } public void paintComponent(Graphics g){ Graphics2D g2d=(Graphics2D)g; // Create a Java2D version of g. g2d.translate(170, 0); // Translate the center of our coordinates. g2d.rotate(1); // Rotate the image by 1 radian. g2d.drawImage(image, 0, 0, 200, 200, this); } but for what I see this code is for making the panel and other components from scratch, for my purposes it is not so good because I need to put several figures on my jFrame. Could somebody can give me a hint how to do this?

  • MigLayout JTextArea is not shrinking when used with linewrap=true

    - by Marcel
    Hi. If I use a JTextArea with MigLayout like this: MigLayout thisLayout = new MigLayout("", "[][grow]", "[]20[]"); this.setLayout(thisLayout); { jLabel1 = new JLabel(); this.add(jLabel1, "cell 0 0"); jLabel1.setText("jLabel1"); } { jTextArea1 = new JTextArea(); this.add(jTextArea1, "cell 0 1 2 1,growx"); jTextArea1.setText("jTextArea1"); jTextArea1.setLineWrap(false); } then the JTextArea grows and shrinks perfectly when resizing the window. When I set the linewrap to true the JTextArea is not shrinking when I make the window smaller again. I would very much appreciate any help. Thanks Marcel

  • How to display a new frame in an an applet?

    - by mithun1538
    Hello everyone, I have an applet. In this I have a JLabel component. When the user clicks this label, a new JFrame component gets displayed. I want to set the value of setDefaultCloseOperation() for this frame as JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE. However, I get a SecurityException if I do that. I read the documentation of JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE and its written that : The exit application default window close operation. If a window has this set as the close operation and is closed in an applet, a SecurityException may be thrown. It is recommended you only use this in an application. What I understood from the above is that if a frame is closed without specifying default close operation, the frame is only hidden. I want to close the frame when the user tries to close it, and not hide the frame. Is this possible?

  • Java Backgroundworker: Scope of Widget to be updated unclear

    - by erlord
    Hi all, I am trying to understand the mechanism of org.jdesktop.swingx.BackgroundWorker. Their javadoc presents following example: final JLabel label; class MeaningOfLifeFinder implements BackgroundListener { public void doInBackground(BackgroundEvent evt) { String meaningOfLife = findTheMeaningOfLife(); evt.getWorker().publish(meaningOfLife); } public void process(BackgroundEvent evt) { label.setText("" + evt.getData()); } public void done(BackgroundEvent evt) {} public void started(BackgroundEvent evt) {} } (new MeaningOfLifeFinder()).execute(); Apart from the fact that I doubt the result will ever get published, I wonder how label is passed to the process method, where it is being updated. I thought it's scope is limited to the outside of the BackgroudListener implementation. Quite confused I am ... any answers for me? Thanks in advance

  • Java Swing: how to add an image to a JPanel ?

    - by Leonel
    I have a JPanel to which I'd like to add JPEG and PNG images that I generate on the fly. All the examples I've seen so far in the Swing Tutorials, specially in the Swing examples use ImageIcons. I'm generating these images as byte arrays, and they are usually larger than the common icon they use in the examples, at 640x480. Is there any (performance or other) problem in using the ImageIcon class to display an image that size in a JPanel ? What's the usual way of doing it ? How to add an image to a JPanel without using the ImageIcon class ? Edit: A more careful examination of the tutorials and the API shows that you cannot add an ImageIcon directly to a JPanel. Instead, they achieve the same effect by setting the image as an icon of a JLabel. This just doesn't fill right...

  • Converting app to MVC and running it in both console and gui

    - by terence6
    I have a simple java gui calculator, with 3 number systems (there are some bugs but that doesn't matter now). Currently all code is in one file. My task is to rewrite it as MVC, and add possibility to run it in either gui or console mode. How should I divide this program to organise it as M-V-C ? Is it written properly enough to add console functionality to it? (guess I'll have to change all methods invoking to JLabel Output to something simply storing an output String as a model argument and then having View to get it). Here's the starting code : http://paste.pocoo.org/show/224566/ Here's what I already have : Main : http://paste.pocoo.org/show/224567/ Model : http://paste.pocoo.org/show/224570/ View : http://paste.pocoo.org/show/224569/ Controller : http://paste.pocoo.org/show/224568/ I don't have view in my model so I can't call to Output. That's the first problem I can see.

  • How do I detect if a display is in High Contrast mode?

    - by banjollity
    I'm testing my company's established Swing application for accessibility issues. With high contrast mode enabled on my PC certain parts of this application are rendered properly (white-on-black) and some incorrectly (black-on-white). The bits that are correct are the native components (JButton, JLabel and whatnot) and third party components from the likes of JIDE. The incorrect bits are custom components and renderers developed in-house without consideration for high-contrast mode. Clearly it's possible to detect when high-contrast mode is enabled. How do I do this?

  • Netbeans Java SE GUI Builder: private initComponents() problem

    - by maSnun
    When I build a GUI for my Java SE app with Netbeans GUI builder, it puts all the codes in the initComponents() method which is private. I could not change it to public. So, all the components are accessible only to the class containing the UI. I want to access those components from another class so that I can write custom event handlers and everything. Most importantly I want to separate my GUI code and non-GUI from each other. I can copy paste the GUI code and later make them public by hand to achieve what I want. But thats a pain. I have to handcraft a portion whenever I need to re-design the UI. What I tried to do: I used the variable identifier to make the text box public. Now how can I access the text box from the Main class? I think I need the component generated in a public method as well. I am new to Java. Any helps? Here's the sample classes: The UI (uiFrame.java) /* * To change this template, choose Tools | Templates * and open the template in the editor. */ /* * uiFrame.java * * Created on Jun 3, 2010, 9:33:15 PM */ package barcode; import java.util.logging.Level; import java.util.logging.Logger; import javax.swing.JFileChooser; import javax.swing.UIManager; import javax.swing.UnsupportedLookAndFeelException; import net.sourceforge.barbecue.output.OutputException; /** * * @author masnun */ public class uiFrame extends javax.swing.JFrame { /** Creates new form uiFrame */ public uiFrame() { try { try { // Set cross-platform Java L&F (also called "Metal") UIManager.setLookAndFeel(UIManager.getSystemLookAndFeelClassName()); } catch (ClassNotFoundException ex) { Logger.getLogger(uiFrame.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } catch (InstantiationException ex) { Logger.getLogger(uiFrame.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } catch (IllegalAccessException ex) { Logger.getLogger(uiFrame.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } catch (UnsupportedLookAndFeelException ex) { Logger.getLogger(uiFrame.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } } finally { } initComponents(); } /** This method is called from within the constructor to * initialize the form. * WARNING: Do NOT modify this code. • Problem creating calculations 'engine' in two class java calculator

    - by tokee
    i have hit a brick wall whilst attempting to create a two class java calculator but have been unsuccessful so far in getting it working. i have the code for an interface which works and displays ok but creating a seperate class 'CalcEngine' to do the actual calculations has proven to be beyond me. I'd appreciate it if someone could kick start things for me and create a class calcEngine which works with the interface class and allows input when from single button i.e. if one is pressed on the calc then 1 displays onscreen. please note i'm not asking someone to do the whole thing for me as i want to learn and i'm confident i can do the rest including addition subtraction etc. once i get over the obstacle of getting the two classes to communicate. any and all assistance would be very much appreciated. • How can I fade in a JPanel & children?

    - by Christian 'fuzi' Orgler
    I know that I can fade in a panel, by adding the alpha value to the background color & a timer. But how can I fade in a panel with child components (like a JLabel)? EDIT _fadeTimer = new Timer(40, new ActionListener() { @Override public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { if (_alpha == 255) { _fadeTimer.stop(); } else { pnl_hint.setBackground(new Color( bgColor.getRed(), bgColor.getGreen(), bgColor.getBlue(), (_alpha += 1))); pnl_hint.updateUI(); } } }); _fadeTimer.start();

  • JTable Design Guide in Swing Application

    - by zwang
    I have a really hard design problem in my swing application. Generally Speaking, I have a JTable and a JLabel to display. The label is right below the JTable. When the height of these two components doesn't exceed a threshold, then the jtable and label displays as normal. Then height of these two components will increase as the number of records filled in the table increases. When the height of these two components exceeds a threshold, I want there is a scrollbar in the JTable and the height of these two components will be the threshold. Is this design Possible? I have draft to illustate my UI design requirement. But I don't know how to post it in this forum. And any reply are appreciate. Best Regards, Zheng.

  • Java Program Compiles and Runs, but doesn't work

    - by Richard Long
    When I run this program I enter information in a text box, push the search button, but nothing happens. The program just sits there until I press Cntrl C to break it. It looks like it should work, but I can't figure out what is hanging the program up. Here is the code: First class: import java.io.*; import java.awt.*; import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.event.*; import java.util.*; public class NameGameFrame extends JFrame { public static String name; static JTextField textfield = new JTextField(20); static JTextArea textarea = new JTextArea(30,30); public static String num; public static String [] fields; public static int [] yearRank; public static boolean match; public static int getInts, marker, year, max; public static void main( String[] args) { JFrame frame = new JFrame(); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.setTitle("Name Game"); frame.setLocation(500,400); frame.setSize(800,800); JPanel panel = new JPanel(new GridBagLayout()); GridBagConstraints c = new GridBagConstraints(); JLabel label = new JLabel("Enter the Name or Partial Name to search:"); c.gridx = 0; c.gridy = 0; c.insets = new Insets(2,2,2,2); panel.add(label,c); c.gridx = 0; c.gridy = 1; panel.add(textarea,c); JButton button = new JButton("Search"); c.gridx = 1; c.gridy = 1; panel.add(button,c); c.gridx = 1; c.gridy = 0; panel.add(textfield,c); frame.getContentPane().add(panel, BorderLayout.NORTH); frame.pack(); frame.setVisible(true); button.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae) { name = textfield.getText(); java.io.File file = new java.io.File("namesdata.txt"); try { Scanner input = new Scanner(file); num = input.nextLine(); NameRecord nr = new NameRecord(name); while (input.hasNext()) { if(match = num.toLowerCase().contains(name.toLowerCase())) { nr.getRank(); nr.getBestYear(marker); } } } catch(FileNotFoundException e) { System.err.format("File does not exist\n"); } textarea.setText(fields[0]); } }); } } This is the second class: import java.io.*; import java.util.*; public class NameRecord { public NameRecord( String name) { } public static int getBestYear(int marker) { switch (marker) { case 1: year = 1900; break; case 2: year = 1910; break; case 3: year = 1920; break; case 4: year = 1930; break; case 5: year = 1940; break; case 6: year = 1950; break; case 7: year = 1960; break; case 8: year = 1970; break; case 9: year = 1980; break; case 10: year = 1990; break; case 11: year = 2000; break; } return year; } public static int getRank() { fields = num.split(" "); max = 0; for (int i = 1; i<12; i++) { getInts = Integer.parseInt(fields[i]); if(getInts>max) { max = getInts; marker = i; } } return max; } }
