  • Line by line image swing

    - by user1046017
I want to show an image as it is downloading, I have the URL, and I am trying to get the image parts like this: InputStream openStream = url.openStream(); DataInputStream dis = new DataInputStream(new BufferedInputStream(openStream)); ByteArrayOutputStream os = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); while ((s = dis.read(b)) != -1) { os.write(b , 0, s); support.firePropertyChange("stream", null, os); } This way, any listener get the stream and creates an image, this way: if("stream".equals(evt.getPropertyName())){ try { ByteArrayOutputStream stream = (ByteArrayOutputStream) evt.getNewValue(); byte[] byteArray = stream.toByteArray(); stream.flush(); Image createImage = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage(byteArray); this.getContentPane().add(new JLabel(new ImageIcon(createImage))); } catch (IOException ex) { Logger.getLogger(ImageTest.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } } However, I am getting a "Premature end of JPEG file sun.awt.image.ImageFormatException: JPEG datastream contains no image" error, the image is a JPG image format, is there any library or method known to make something similar?

  • How can I force the text go to the button of the panel?

    - by Roman
At the moment I have the following code which works fine. label = new JLabel(panelLabel,SwingConstants.CENTER); outputPanel.add(label,BorderLayout.CENTER); I get the text in the center of the panel (in terms of the left-right position as well as in terms of the top-bottom). Now I want to set the position to the bottom (and center in terms of "left-right"). I tried to use SOUTH instead of the CENTER in the first line. Compiler does not complains but during the execution i get IllegalArgumentException: HorizontalAlignment. What is that?

  • Java Swing- Create a function to add elements to JScrollPanel

    - by battousai622
I want to create a function so that i can call add JLabel's, etc inside the JScrollPanel. I am not sure what the command is in NetBeans. I tried doing JScrollPanel - events - container - componentAdded to create the code below. But nothing shows up when i add code to that function. private void initComponents() { scrollPanel = new javax.swing.JScrollPane(); scrollPanel.addContainerListener(new java.awt.event.ContainerAdapter() { public void componentAdded(java.awt.event.ContainerEvent evt) { scrollPanelComponentAdded(evt); } } private void scrollPanelComponentAdded(java.awt.event.ContainerEvent evt) { System.out.println("main"); } Any help would be great, thanks.

  • JPanel superclass doesn't add the components of its subclasses..

    - by Acryl
Well, I use a JFrame that adds two JPanels. Those JPanels are superclasses, because I find it easier to separate different areas of the GUI into different classes. But here's the problem: I add the (superclass) JPanel to the JFrame I set the layout of the superclass JPanel to new BorderLayout(); I add components in the subclasses, like this: JPanel panel = new JPanel(); panel.setLayout(new GridLayout(2,1)); panel.add(new JLabel("Label:"); panel.add(new JTextField(); add(panel, BorderLayout.NORTH); But it doesn't show. What do I do wrong? I've tried it without an additional JPanel in the subclasses, but it doesn't work either. I use jdk 1.6

  • how to implement a callback in runnable to update other swing class

    - by wizztjh
I have a thread like this public class SMS { class Read implements Runnable { Read(){ Thread th = new Thread(this); th.start(); } @Override public void run() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub while (true){ Variant SMSAPIReturnValue = SMSAPIJava.invoke("ReadSMS"); if (SMSAPIReturnValue.getBoolean()){ String InNumber = SMSAPIJava.getPropertyAsString("MN"); String InMessage = SMSAPIJava.getPropertyAsString("MSG"); } } } } } How do I update the message to another GUI class in the same package(I understand how to put nested class to another package ....). Should I implement a callback function in SMS class? But how? Or should I pass in the Jlabel into the class?

  • Image not getting displayed on a JPanel.

    - by Myth17
class Deal implements ActionListener { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { dl.setDeck(); dl.shuffle(); dl.firstDraw(pl); for(Card c:pl.showHand()) panelplay.add(new JLabel(c.getImageIcon())); panelplay.validate(); } } This is an event handler for a Jbutton. The method pl.showHand() returns a ArrayList of a user defined class 'Card'. Inserting a println() inside the loop shows the print, so the code is being executed but the Panel panelplay isnt showing card Images.

  • Calling class in Java after editing file used in as source for table

    - by user2892290
    I'm currently working on a project, I'll try to subrscibe first. I save data into text file, that I use as a source for browser of that data. The browser is based on table that contains the data. I have to rewrite the source file everytime I delete or edit data. That's where the problem comes in. After deleting or editing data I call a method to create the table again, but the table never creates. Is it possibly made by editing the file and calling the method right after that? If I restart my app the table is successfully created with right data. Take in note that I don't get any error message. This is the method I use for loading data from source file: try (BufferedReader input1 = new BufferedReader(new FileReader("./src/data.src"))) { int lines = 0; while (input1.read() != -1) { if (!(input1.readLine()).equals("")) { lines++; } } input1.close(); if (lines == 0) { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "No data to load, create a note first!"); new Writer().build(frame); } else { try (BufferedReader input = new BufferedReader(new FileReader("./src/data.src"))) { Game[] g = new Game[lines]; String currentLine; String[] help; int counter = 0; while (lines > 0) { currentLine = input.readLine(); help = currentLine.split("#"); g[counter] = new Game(help[0],help[1], help[2], help[3], help[4], help[5], help[6], help[7], help[8], help[9]); counter++; lines--; } input.close(); final JButton bButton = new backButton().create(frame, mPanel); build(g, frame, bButton); mPanel.add(panel); mPanel.add(panel2); mPanel.add(searchPanel); mPanel.add(bButton); bButton.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { @Override public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { frame.setCursor(Cursor.getPredefinedCursor(Cursor.WAIT_CURSOR)); panel.removeAll(); frame.setCursor(Cursor.getDefaultCursor()); } }); mPanel.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(1000, 750)); panel.setBorder(new EmptyBorder(10, 10, 10, 10)); frame.setLayout(new FlowLayout()); frame.add(mPanel); frame.pack(); JMenuBar menuBar = new Menu().create(frame, mPanel); frame.setJMenuBar(menuBar); frame.setVisible(true); Rectangle rec = GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment().getMaximumWindowBounds(); int width = (int) rec.getWidth(); int height = (int) rec.getHeight(); frame.setBounds(1, 3, width, height); frame.addComponentListener(new ComponentAdapter() { @Override public void componentMoved(ComponentEvent e) { frame.setLocation(1, 3); } }); And this is the method I use for creating the table: String[][] tableData = new String[g.length][9]; for (int i = 0; i < tableData.length; i++) { tableData[i][0] = g[i].getChampion(); tableData[i][1] = g[i].getRole(); tableData[i][2] = g[i].getEnemy(); tableData[i][3] = g[i].getDifficulty(); tableData[i][4] = g[i].getResult(); tableData[i][5] = g[i].getScore(); tableData[i][6] = g[i].getGameType(); tableData[i][7] = g[i].getPoints(); tableData[i][8] = g[i].getLeague(); } final JLabel searchLabel = new JLabel("Search for champion played."); final JButton searchButton = new JButton("Search"); final JTextField searchText = new JTextField(20); frame.setTitle("LoL Notepad - reading your notes"); JTable table = new JTable(tableData, columnNames); final JScrollPane scrollPane = new JScrollPane(table); scrollPane.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(980, 500)); panel2.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(1000, 550)); panel2.setVisible(false); panel2.setBorder(new EmptyBorder(10, 10, 10, 10)); panel3.setVisible(false); panel.setLayout(new FlowLayout()); panel.add(scrollPane); searchPanel.add(searchLabel); searchPanel.add(searchText); searchPanel.add(searchButton); searchButton.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { @Override public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { try { frame.setCursor(Cursor.getPredefinedCursor(Cursor.WAIT_CURSOR)); search(g, searchText.getText(), frame, bButton); frame.setCursor(Cursor.getDefaultCursor()); } catch (IOException ex) { Logger.getLogger(Reader.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } } }); table.addMouseListener(new MouseAdapter() { @Override public void mousePressed(MouseEvent e) { if (e.getClickCount() == 1) { JTable target = (JTable) e.getSource(); panel.setVisible(false); searchPanel.setVisible(false); bButton.setVisible(false); int row = target.getSelectedRow(); specific(row, g, frame, bButton); } } });

  • Java Pack No Resize

    - by ikurtz
i am learning Java at the moment and have the following question: i am adding my controls to JFrame and then pack() before displaying. this runs the application and all is very nice. i was wondering is there a way to stop the user from resizing the application window? also is there a way to for the image in JLabel to expand as the user changes the application window? at the moment i have it as: constraints.fill = GridBagConstraints.BOTH; constraints.anchor = GridBagConstraints.CENTER; and it only centers the image, i would like to be able to expand/shrink the image. thanks.

  • Java: Using multiple Threads to paint simultaniously on a JPanel

    - by user347217
I have a JPanel on which I wish to have several threads painting "animations" on. An "animation" consists of a JLabel with an ImageIcon on it, which is being moved from one area of the screen to another area. Now, problem is - I want several such animations to be portrayed on screen by those threads mentioned. Problem is - the JPanel's "paint()" method can only be trigged by one thread at a time - causing the animations to execute serially, instead of in a parallel way. Any idea how to have several such animations on screen at the same time?

  • A "Trig" Calculating Class

    - by Clinton Scott
I have been trying to create a gui that calculates trigonometric functions based off of the user's input. I have had success in the GUI part, but my class that I wrote to hold information using inheritance seems to be messed up, because when I run it gives an error saying: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.RuntimeException: Uncompilable source code - constructor ArcTrigCalcCon in class TrigCalc.ArcTrigCalcCon cannot be applied to given types; required: double, double, double, double, double, double found: java.lang.Double,java.lang.Double,java.lang.Double reason: actual and formal argument lists differ in length at TrigCalc.TrigCalcGUI.(TrigCalcGUI.java:31) at TrigCalc.TrigCalcGUI.main(TrigCalcGUI.java:87) Java Result: 1 and says it is the object causing the problem. Below Will be my code. First I will put up my inheritance class with cosecant secant and cotangent and then my original class with the original 3 trig functions: { public ArcTrigCalcCon(double s, double cs, double t, double csc, double sc, double ct) { // Inherit from the Trig Calc class super(s, cs, t); cosecant = 1/s; secant = 1/cs; cotangent = 1/t; } public void setCsc(double csc) { cosecant = csc; } public void setSec(double sc) { secant = sc; } public void setCot(double ct) { cotangent = ct; } } Here is the first Trigonometric class: public class TrigCalcCon { public double sine; public double cosine; public double tangent; public TrigCalcCon(double s, double cs, double t) { sine = s; cosine = cs; tangent = t; } public void setSin(double s) { sine = s; } public void setCos(double cs) { cosine = cs; } public void setTan(double t) { tangent = t; } public void set(double s, double cs, double t) { sine = s; cosine = cs; tangent = t; } public double getSin() { return Math.sin(sine); } public double getCos() { return Math.cos(cosine); } public double getTan() { return Math.tan(tangent); } } and here is the demo class to run the gui: public class TrigCalcGUI extends JFrame implements ActionListener { // Instance Variables private String input; private Double s, cs, t, csc, sc, ct; private JPanel mainPanel, sinPanel, cosPanel, tanPanel, cscPanel, secPanel, cotPanel, buttonPanel, inputPanel, displayPanel; // Panel Display private JLabel sinLabel, cosLabel, tanLabel, secLabel, cscLabel, cotLabel, inputLabel; • problem with revalidating a jframe.

    - by John Quesie
I have this code which should take the radio button input do a little math and display a popup. which it does fine. but then it is supposed to re validate and ask the next question. when i get to the second question, the answer always comes out as the isSelected(true) value no matter which radio button you click on. SO to be clear the first time through it works fin but when the second question comes up, it just takes the default radio button every time. public class EventHandler implements ActionListener { private Main gui; • Java: Reading images and displaying as an ImageIcon

    - by 11helen
I'm writing an application which reads and displays images as ImageIcons (within a JLabel), the application needs to be able to support jpegs and bitmaps. For jpegs I find that passing the filename directly to the ImageIcon constructor works fine (even for displaying two large jpegs), however if I use ImageIO.read to get the image and then pass the image to the ImageIcon constructor, I get an OutOfMemoryError( Java Heap Space ) when the second image is read (using the same images as before). For bitmaps, if I try to read by passing the filename to ImageIcon, nothing is displayed, however by reading the image with ImageIO.read and then using this image in the ImageIcon constructor works fine. I understand from reading other forum posts that the reason that the two methods don't work the same for the different formats is down to java's compatability issues with bitmaps, however is there a way around my problem so that I can use the same method for both bitmaps and jpegs without an OutOfMemoryError? (I would like to avoid having to increase the heap size if possible!) The OutOfMemoryError is triggered by this line: img = getFileContentsAsImage(file); and the method definition is: public static BufferedImage getFileContentsAsImage(File file) throws FileNotFoundException { BufferedImage img = null; try { ImageIO.setUseCache(false); img = ImageIO.read(file); img.flush(); } catch (IOException ex) { //log error } return img; } The stack trace is: Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space at java.awt.image.DataBufferByte.<init>(DataBufferByte.java:58) at java.awt.image.ComponentSampleModel.createDataBuffer(ComponentSampleModel.java:397) at java.awt.image.Raster.createWritableRaster(Raster.java:938) at javax.imageio.ImageTypeSpecifier.createBufferedImage(ImageTypeSpecifier.java:1056) at javax.imageio.ImageReader.getDestination(ImageReader.java:2879) at com.sun.imageio.plugins.jpeg.JPEGImageReader.readInternal(JPEGImageReader.java:925) at com.sun.imageio.plugins.jpeg.JPEGImageReader.read(JPEGImageReader.java:897) at javax.imageio.ImageIO.read(ImageIO.java:1422) at javax.imageio.ImageIO.read(ImageIO.java:1282) at framework.FileUtils.getFileContentsAsImage(FileUtils.java:33)

  • Java - Custom PropertyEditorSupport to display units

    - by I82Much
All, I'm trying to make the properties of my node have Units associated with the measure. ( I am using the JScience.org implementation of JSR 275) So for instance, public class Robot extends AbstractNode { // in kg float vehicleMass; @Override public Sheet createSheet() { Sheet s = Sheet.createDefault(); Sheet.Set set = s.createPropertiesSet(); try { PropertySupport.Reflection vehicleMassField = new PropertySupport.Reflection(this, float.class, "vehicleMass"); vehicleMassField.setValue("units", SI.KILOGRAMS); vehicleMassField.setName("vehicleMass"); set.put(vehicleMassField); PropertyEditorManager.registerEditor(float.class, UnitInPlaceEditor.class); } catch (NoSuchMethodException ex) { Exceptions.printStackTrace(ex); } s.put(set); return s; } } I want my UnitInPlaceEditor to append the units to the end of the string representation of the number, and when the field is clicked (enters edit mode) for the units to disappear and just the number becomes selected for editing. I can make the units appear, but I cannot get the units to disappear when the field enters editing mode. public class UnitsInplaceEditor extends PropertyEditorSupport implements ExPropertyEditor { private PropertyEnv pe; @Override public String getAsText() { // Append the unit by retrieving the stored value } @Override public void setAsText(String s) { // strip off the unit, parse out the number } public void attachEnv(PropertyEnv pe) { this.pe = pe; } } Here's a screenshot of the display - I like it like this.. but here's the value being edited; note the unit stays there. Basically I want one value (string) to be displayed in the field when the field is NOT being edited, and a different to be displayed when user starts editing the field. Barring that, I'd like to put a constant jlabel for the units (uneditable) to the right of the text field. Anyone know how to do this?

  • How to add an image dynamically at runtime in java

    - by Brandon
I've been trying to load up an image dynamically in runtime for the longest time and have taken a look at other posts on this site and have yet to find exactly the thing that will work. I am trying to load an image while my GUI is running (making it in runtime) and have tried various things. Right now, I have found the easiest way to create an image is to use a JLabel and add an ImageIcon to it. This has worked, but when I go to load it after the GUI is running, it fails saying there is a "NullPointerException". Here is the code I have so far: p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("python C:\\FaceVACS\\roc.py " + "C:/FaceVACS/OutputCMC_" + target + ".txt " + "C:/FaceVACS/ROC_" + target + ".png"); Icon graph = new ImageIcon("C:\\FaceVACS\\OutputCMC_" + target + ".png"); roc_image.setIcon(graph); panel.add(roc_image); panel.revalidate(); gui.frame.pack(); I tried panel.validate(), panel.revalidate(), and I've also tried gui.getRootPane(), but I can't seem to find anything that will work. Any ideas would be helpful! Thanks

This is a homework question and I'm having a lot of trouble with it - I've managed to do some of it but still cant finish it - can i Please get some help. Q1. Bezier Curves The following example allows you to interactively control a bezier curve by dragging the control points Cubic.java Replace the call to draw the cubic shape (big.draw(cubic)), by your own function to draw a bezier by the recursive split method. • Implementing Drag and Drop using MouseListener for custom Components

    - by Chris Lieb
I am working on a school assignment that requires me to be able to pick up a tile, drag it to a location, then drop it there. I was able to get this working using TransferHandler and a bunch of stuff from the dnd package, but this is not an acceptable way to perform this action for this assignment according to the professor. So, I am trying to achieve the same effect using the MouseListener interface. The basic setup is this: I have a JPanel-derived class called LocationView that contains JLabel-dervived instances of TileView. I need to get events that give me the LocationView that has the mouse pressed on and the LocationView that has the mouse released on. I am proxying mouse events through the TileView to its containing LocationView so that I can properly handle the mousePressed event. I added System.out.println()'s to the mouse listeners for mousePressed and mouseReleased to both LocationView and TileView so that I could observe the events that were being generated. To my surprise, pressing the mouse on Tile A in Location A, then dragging to Location B and releasing would generate a mouse released event for both Tile A and Location A, but not for Location B. I need the mouse released event triggered for only Location B. To try to work around this, I tried implementing a glass pane based off of the FinalGlassPane found at http://weblogs.java.net/blog/2006/09/20/well-behaved-glasspane. After adding the glass pane and adding an event listener for it, I can see that the mouse events are indeed filtering through the glass pane, but the mouse released event is still only being called on the item the mouse was clicked on. Is there a way to have mousePressed and mouseReleased events associated with the same drag action be called on separate components?

  • Why I do not see a static variable in a loop?

    - by Roman
I have a static method which sets a variable: static String[] playersNames; public static void setParameters(String[] players) { playersNames = players; } Then I have a static block: static { JRadioButton option; ButtonGroup group = new ButtonGroup(); // Wright a short explanation of what the user should do. partnerSelectionPanel.add(new JLabel("Pleas select a partner:")); // Generate radio-buttons corresponding to the options available to the player. // Bellow is the problematic line causing the null pointer exception: for (String playerName: playersNames) { final String pn = playerName; option = new JRadioButton(playerName, false); option.addActionListener(new ActionListener(){ @Override public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent evt) { partner = pn; } }); partnerSelectionPanel.add(option); group.add(option); } partnerSelectionPanel.add(label); // Add the "Submit" button to the end of the "form". JButton submitButton = new JButton("Submit"); submitButton.addActionListener(new ActionListener(){ @Override public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent evt) { partnerSelected(); } }); partnerSelectionPanel.add(submitButton); } Compiler does not complain about anything but when I try to execute the code I get problems. In this place SelectPartnerGUI.setParameters(players); I have: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ExceptionInitializerError. and it is cause by java.lang.NullpointerException at this place for (String playerName: playersNames). Does my program do not see the palyersNames?

  • Trusted Folder/Drive Picker in the Browser

    - by kylepfritz
    I'd like to write a Folder/Drive picker the runs in the browser and allows a user to select files to upload to a webservice. The primary usage would be selecting folders or a whole CD and uploading them to the web with their directory structure in tact. I'm imagining something akin to Jumploader but which automatically enumerates external drives and CDs. I remember a version of Facebook's picture uploader that could do this sort of enumeration and was java-based but it has since been replaced by a much slicker plugin-based architecture. Because the application needs to run at very high trust, I think I'm limited to old-school java applets. Is there another alternative? I'm hesitant to start down the plugin route because of the necessity of writing one for both IE and Mozilla at a minimum. Are there good places to get started there? On the applet front, I built a clunky prototype to demonstrate that I can enumerate devices and list files. It runs fine in the applet viewer but I don't think I have the security settings configured correctly for it to run in the browser at full trust. Currently I don't get any drives back when I run it in the browser. Applet Prototype: public class Loader extends javax.swing.JApplet { ... private void EnumerateDrives(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) { File[] roots = File.listRoots(); StringBuilder b = new StringBuilder(); for (File root : roots) { b.append(root.getAbsolutePath() + ", "); } jLabel.setText(b.toString()); } } Embed Html: <p>Loader:</p> <script src="http://www.java.com/js/deployJava.js" type="text/javascript" ></script> <script> var attributes = {code:'org.exampl.Loader.Loader.class', archive:'Loader/dist/Loader.jar', width:600, height:400} ; var parameters = {}; deployJava.runApplet(attributes, parameters, '1.6');

  • Repaint() not calling paint() in Java

    - by Joshua Auriemma
Let me start off by saying I know I've violated some basic Java principles in this messy code, but I'm desperately trying to finish a program by Tuesday for a social science experiment, and I don't know Java, so I'm basically just fumbling through it for now. With that disclaimer out of the way, I have a separate program working where a circle is moving around the screen and the user must click on it. It works fine when its in its own separate class file, but when I add the code to my main program, it's no longer working. I don't even really understand why repaint() calls my paint() function — as far as I'm concerned, it's magic, but I've noticed that repaint() calls paint() in my test program, but not in the more complicated actual program, and I assume that's why the circle is no longer painting on my program. Entire code is below: import java.awt.Color; import java.awt.Graphics; import java.awt.Graphics2D; import java.awt.Rectangle; import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.event.*; import java.awt.geom.Ellipse2D; import java.io.FileReader; import java.io.IOException; import java.util.Calendar; public class Reflexology1 extends JFrame{ private static final long serialVersionUID = -1295261024563143679L; private Ellipse2D ball = new Ellipse2D.Double(0, 0, 25, 25); private Timer moveBallTimer; int _ballXpos, _ballYpos; JButton button1, button2; JButton movingButton; JTextArea textArea1; int buttonAClicked, buttonDClicked; private long _openTime = 0; private long _closeTime = 0; JPanel thePanel = new JPanel(); JPanel thePlacebo = new JPanel(); final JFrame frame = new JFrame("Reflexology"); final JFrame frame2 = new JFrame("The Test"); JLabel label1 = new JLabel("Press X and then click the moving dot as fast as you can."); public static void main(String[] args){ new Reflexology1(); } public Reflexology1(){ frame.setSize(600, 475); frame.setLocationRelativeTo(null); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.setTitle("Reflexology 1.0"); frame.setResizable(false); frame2.setSize(600, 475); frame2.setLocationRelativeTo(null); frame2.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame2.setTitle("Reflexology 1.0"); frame2.setResizable(false); button1 = new JButton("Accept"); button2 = new JButton("Decline"); //movingButton = new JButton("Click Me"); ListenForAcceptButton lForAButton = new ListenForAcceptButton(); ListenForDeclineButton lForDButton = new ListenForDeclineButton(); button1.addActionListener(lForAButton); button2.addActionListener(lForDButton); //movingButton.addActionListener(lForMButton); JTextArea textArea1 = new JTextArea(24, 50); textArea1.setText("Tracking Events\n"); textArea1.setLineWrap(true); textArea1.setWrapStyleWord(true); textArea1.setSize(15, 50); textArea1.setEditable(false); FileReader reader = null; try { reader = new FileReader("EULA.txt"); textArea1.read(reader, "EULA.txt"); } catch (IOException exception) { System.err.println("Problem loading file"); exception.printStackTrace(); } finally { if (reader != null) { try { reader.close(); } catch (IOException exception) { System.err.println("Error closing reader"); exception.printStackTrace(); } } } JScrollPane scrollBar1 = new JScrollPane(textArea1, JScrollPane.VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR_AS_NEEDED, JScrollPane.HORIZONTAL_SCROLLBAR_NEVER); AdjustmentListener listener = new MyAdjustmentListener(); thePanel.add(scrollBar1); thePanel.add(button1); thePanel.add(button2); frame.add(thePanel); ListenForMouse lForMouse = new ListenForMouse(); thePlacebo.addMouseListener(lForMouse); thePlacebo.add(label1); frame2.add(thePlacebo); ListenForWindow lForWindow = new ListenForWindow(); frame.addWindowListener(lForWindow); frame2.addKeyListener(new KeyAdapter() { public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e){ if(e.getKeyChar() == 'X' || e.getKeyChar() == 'x') {moveBallTimer.start();} } }); frame.setVisible(true); moveBallTimer = new Timer(1000, new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { moveBall(); System.out.println("Timer started!"); repaint(); } }); addKeyListener(new KeyAdapter() { public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e) { if(frame2.isVisible()){ moveBallTimer.start(); } } }); } private class ListenForAcceptButton implements ActionListener{ public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e){ if (e.getSource() == button1){ Calendar ClCDateTime = Calendar.getInstance(); System.out.println(ClCDateTime.getTimeInMillis() - _openTime); _closeTime = ClCDateTime.getTimeInMillis() - _openTime; //frame.getContentPane().remove(thePanel); //thePlacebo.addKeyListener(lForKeys); //frame.getContentPane().add(thePlacebo); //frame.repaint(); //moveBallTimer.start(); frame.setVisible(false); frame2.setVisible(true); frame2.revalidate(); frame2.repaint(); } } } private class ListenForDeclineButton implements ActionListener{ public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e){ if (e.getSource() == button2){ JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(Reflexology1.this, "You've declined the license agreement. ok this is just a shot in the dark but it may be the cause of most of the errors ive gotten. when your initializing something. lets say a smal swing program. would it go liek this variables here { private Jlist contactList; String [] contactArray; ArrayList <String> contactArrayList; ResultSet namesList constructor here public whatever() { GridLayout aGrid = new GridLayout(2,2,10,10); contact1 = new String(); contact2 = new String(); contact3 = new String(); contactArrayList = new ArrayList<String>(); // is something supposed too go in the () of this JList? contactList = new JList(); contactArray = new String[5]; from1 =new JLabel ("From: " + contactArray[1]); gridlayout.add(components)// theres too many components to write onto SO. } // methods here public void fillContactsGui() { createConnection(); ArrayList<String> contactsArrayList = new ArrayList<String>(); while (namesList.next()) { contactArrayList.add(namesList.getString(1)); ContactArray[1] = namesList[1]; } } i know this is probably a huge beginner question but this is the code ive gotten used too. im initializing thigns three and fours times without meaning too because im not sure where they gp. can anyone shed some light on this? p.s. sorry for the messy sample code. i done my best.

  • How do I remove an old JPanel and add a new one?

    - by Roman
I would like to remove an old JPanel from the Window (JFrame) and add a new one. How should I do it? I tried the following: public static void showGUI() { JFrame frame = new JFrame("Colored Trails"); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.add(partnerSelectionPanel); frame.setSize(600,400); frame.setVisible(true); } private static void updateGUI(final int i, final JLabel label, final JPanel partnerSelectionPanel) { SwingUtilities.invokeLater( new Runnable() { public void run() { label.setText(i + " seconds left."); } partnerSelectionPanel.setVisible(false); \\ <------------ } ); } So, my code update the "old" JPanel and them it makes the whole JPanel invisible. It was the idea. But it does not work. The compiler complains about the line indicated with "<------------". It writes: <identifier> expected, illegal start of type.

  • ComboBox Data Binding

    - by Geertjan
Let's create a databound combobox, levering MVC in a desktop application. The result will be a combobox, provided by the NetBeans ChoiceView, that displays data retrieved from a database: What follows is not much different from the NetBeans Platform CRUD Application Tutorial and you're advised to consult that document if anything that follows isn't clear enough. One kind of interesting thing about the instructions that follow is that it shows that you're able to create an application where each element of the MVC architecture can be located within a separate module: Start by creating a new NetBeans Platform application named "MyApplication". Model We're going to start by generating JPA entity classes from a database connection. In the New Project wizard, choose "Java Class Library". Click Next. Name the Java Class Library "MyEntities". Click Finish. Right-click the MyEntities project, choose New, and then select "Entity Classes from Database". Work through the wizard, selecting the tables of interest from your database, and naming the package "entities". Click Finish. Now a JPA entity is created for each of the selected tables. In the Project Properties dialog of the project, choose "Copy Dependent Libraries" in the Packaging panel. Build the project. In your project's "dist" folder (visible in the Files window), you'll now see a JAR, together with a "lib" folder that contains the JARs you'll need. In your NetBeans Platform application, create a module named "MyModel", with code name base "org.my.model". Right-click the project, choose Properties, and in the "Libraries" panel, click Add Dependency button in the Wrapped JARs subtab to add all the JARs from the previous step to the module. Also include "derby-client.jar" or the equivalent driver for your database connection to the module. Controler In your NetBeans Platform application, create a module named "MyControler", with code name base "org.my.controler". Right-click the module's Libraries node, in the Projects window, and add a dependency on "Explorer & Property Sheet API". In the MyControler module, create a class with this content: package org.my.controler; import org.openide.explorer.ExplorerManager; public class MyUtils { static ExplorerManager controler; public static ExplorerManager getControler() { if (controler == null) { controler = new ExplorerManager(); } return controler; } } View In your NetBeans Platform application, create a module named "MyView", with code name base "org.my.view".  Create a new Window Component, in "explorer" view, for example, let it open on startup, with class name prefix "MyView". Add dependencies on the Nodes API and on the Explorer & Property Sheet API. Also add dependencies on the "MyModel" module and the "MyControler" module. Before doing so, in the "MyModel" module, make the "entities" package and the "javax.persistence" packages public (in the Libraries panel of the Project Properties dialog) and make the one package that you have in the "MyControler" package public too. Define the top part of the MyViewTopComponent as follows: public final class MyViewTopComponent extends TopComponent implements ExplorerManager.Provider { ExplorerManager controler = MyUtils.getControler(); public MyViewTopComponent() { initComponents(); setName(Bundle.CTL_MyViewTopComponent()); setToolTipText(Bundle.HINT_MyViewTopComponent()); setLayout(new BoxLayout(this, BoxLayout.PAGE_AXIS)); controler.setRootContext(new AbstractNode(Children.create(new ChildFactory<Customer>() { @Override protected boolean createKeys(List list) { EntityManager entityManager = Persistence. createEntityManagerFactory("MyEntitiesPU").createEntityManager(); Query query = entityManager.createNamedQuery("Customer.findAll"); list.addAll(query.getResultList()); return true; } @Override protected Node createNodeForKey(Customer key) { Node customerNode = new AbstractNode(Children.LEAF, Lookups.singleton(key)); customerNode.setDisplayName(key.getName()); return customerNode; } }, true))); controler.addPropertyChangeListener(new PropertyChangeListener() { @Override public void propertyChange(PropertyChangeEvent evt) { Customer selectedCustomer = controler.getSelectedNodes()[0].getLookup().lookup(Customer.class); StatusDisplayer.getDefault().setStatusText(selectedCustomer.getName()); } }); JPanel row1 = new JPanel(new FlowLayout(FlowLayout.LEADING)); row1.add(new JLabel("Customers: ")); row1.add(new ChoiceView()); add(row1); } @Override public ExplorerManager getExplorerManager() { return controler; } ... ... ... Now run the application and you'll see the same as the image with which this blog entry started.
