  • All day optimizer event....

    I've recently taken over some of the responsibilities of Maria Colgan (also known as the "optimizer lady") so she can move onto supporting our new In Memory Database features (note her new twitter handle for that: https://twitter.com/db_inmemory ).To that end, I have two one day Optimizer classes scheduled this year (and more to follow next year!).  The first one will be Wednesday November 20th in Northern California.  You can find details for that here: http://www.nocoug.org/ .The next one will be 5,500 miles (about 8,800 km) away in the UK - in Manchester.  That'll take place immediately following the UKOUG technical conference taking place the first week of December on December 5th.  You can see all of the details for that here: http://www.ukoug.org/events/tom-kyte-seminar-2013/I know I'll be doing one in Belgrade early next year, probably the first week in April.   • Setting default_scope according to some criteria

    I'm trying to set default scope according to some criteria determined by ana ActionController before_filter. In controller: before_filter :authorize ... def authorize if some_condition @default_scope_conditions = something elsif another_condition @default_scope_conditions = something_else end end Inside the ActiveRecord default_scope :conditions => @default_scope_conditions But it doesn't seem to work, the before filter gets called but the default_scope doesn't get set. Could you please advise me what I'm doing wrong and how to fix it or suggest me some other way of achieving that.

    I try to use a program and I get the following error. /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.15' not found Under /usr/lib64 the libstdc++ I see is libstdc++.so.6.0.13 (and a soft link). With strings libstdc++.so.6.0.13 | grep GLIBCXX I get GLIBCXX_3.4 GLIBCXX_3.4.1 GLIBCXX_3.4.2 GLIBCXX_3.4.3 GLIBCXX_3.4.4 GLIBCXX_3.4.5 GLIBCXX_3.4.6 GLIBCXX_3.4.7 GLIBCXX_3.4.8 GLIBCXX_3.4.9 GLIBCXX_3.4.10 GLIBCXX_3.4.11 GLIBCXX_3.4.12 GLIBCXX_3.4.13 GLIBCXX_FORCE_NEW GLIBCXX_DEBUG_MESSAGE_LENGTH With cat /etc/redhat-release I get Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation release 6.4 (Santiago) So the question in what should I do in order to fix that.     I have need of installing a Java 7 development environment on a RHEL 6.3 (system details are below). Following the official OpenJDK directions I tried yum install java-1.7.0-openjdk-devel (as root). This yields the error message: No package java-1.7.0-openjdk-devel available. The Java6 JDK java-1.6.0-openjdk-devel and the Java7 JRE java-1.7.0-openjdk are both available, but the Java7 JDK does not appear. Is there a non-default repository from which I can install this? If so what is it? Distribution: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.3 (Santiago) Kernel: 2.6.32-279.5.2.el6.x86_64

    Is it possible to deny the right to copy files? I have a script which should be executable by others. They are also allowed to read the file (though it would not be a problem to forbid reading). But I don't want the script to be changed and executed. It's not a problem to set those permissions, but one could easily copy, change and run the script. Can this even be avoided? /edit The OS is Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation release 6.2 (Santiago).

  • SSH only works after intentionally failed password

    So, I'm having a rather weird problem. I have a server, that when I try to SSH into, immediately closes the connection if I type in the correct password on the first attempt. However, if I purposefully enter a wrong password on the first attempt, and then enter a correct password at the second or third prompt, it successfully logs me into the computer. Similarly, when I try to use public key authentication, I get an immediate closed connection. If, however, I enter a wrong password for my key file, followed by another wrong password once it reverts to password authentication, I can successfully log in as long as I provide the correct password at the second or third prompt. The machine is running Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.2 (Santiago), and is using LDAP and PAM for authentication. Any ideas on where to start debugging this one? Let me know what config files I need to provide and I'll be happy to do so.

  • Ctrl-Alt-F1 never gives prompt

    When I press Ctrl+Alt+F1 in my Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4 (Santiago) I get a black screen with a blinking cursor, but I never get a login prompt. I can get back to my desktop with Ctrl+Alt+F7, and things work as normal. However, when I run sudo init 3 I get the same thing, but this time I am stuck at the screen and can't get back without a reboot. I'm not even sure where to start looking for the cause of this problem. Are the startup scripts that might be causing the problem or other system configurations that could lead to this? If this is not an known issue, what steps should I take to debug?

    Hello Fellas, I am having trouble doing what i want to do with the following setup. I would like to remove all WWW, and also forward index.html to root dir. I would like this to be for all domains, so i am doing inside httpd.conf directory directive. I tried many variations with no success. Our team is part of the recently announced Microsoft Technical Computing group. Specifically, we are working on new debugger functionality, integrated with Visual Studio (we are starting work on the next version), aimed to address HPC and GPGPU scenarios (and continuing the Parallel Debugging scenarios we started addressing with VS2010).   • Longest substring that appears n times

    For a string of length L, I want to find the longest substring that appears n (n<L) or more times in ths string. For example, the longest substring that occurs 2 or more times in "BANANA" is "ANA", once starting from index 1, and once again starting from index 3. The substrings are allowed to overlap. In the string "FFFFFF", the longest string that appears 3 or more times is "FFFF". The brute force algorithm for n=2 would be selecting all pairs of indexes in the string, then running along until the characters are different. The running-along part takes O(L) and the number of pairs is O(L^2) (duplicates are not allowed but I'm ignoring that) so the complexity of this algorithm for n=2 would be O(L^3). For greater values of n, this grows exponentially. Is there a more efficient algorithm for this problem?

  • JCP.Next - Early Adopters of JCP 2.8

    JCP.Next is a series of three JSRs (JSR 348, JSR 355 and JSR 358), to be defined through the JCP process itself, with the JCP Executive Committee serving as the Expert Group. The proposed JSRs will modify the JCP's processes  - the Process Document and Java Specification Participation Agreement (JSPA) and will apply to all new JSRs for all Java platforms.   The first - JCP.next.1, or more formally JSR 348, Towards a new version of the Java Community Process - was completed and put into effect in October 2011 as JCP 2.8. This focused on a small number of simple but important changes to make our process more transparent and to enable broader participation. We're already seeing the benefits of these changes as new and existing JSRs adopt the new requirements. The second - JSR 355, Executive Committee Merge, is also Final. You can read the JCP 2.9 Process Document .  As part of the JSR 355 Final Release, the JCP Executive Committee published revisions to the JCP Process Document (version 2.9) and the EC Standing Rules (version 2.2).  The changes went into effect following the 2012 EC Elections in November. The third JSR 358, A major revision of the Java Community Process was submitted in June 2012.  This JSR will modify the Java Specification Participation Agreement (JSPA) as well as the Process Document, and will tackle a large number of complex issues, many of them postponed from JSR 348. For these reasons, the JCP EC (acting as the Expert Group for this JSR), expects to spend a considerable amount of time working on. The JSPA is defined by the JCP as "a one-year, renewable agreement between the Member and Oracle. The success of the Java community depends upon an open and transparent JCP program.  JSR 358, A major revision of the Java Community Process, is now in process and can be followed on java.net.
