  • HTTP Live Streaming Broadcast

    I'm designing an app for streaming video from a device (e.g. iPhone) via a server to one or more devices and have been researching Apples HTTP Live Streaming protocol. One thing that isn't clear is whether it is possible to stream live video (with audio) to the server and then have it streamed simultaneously in real time to the client devices. From reading the documentation and technical notes from Apple it seems like the index file needs to be created before the segmented video files can be served to a client. Is this right? If so maybe HTTP Live Streaming isn't suitable in this case, what other technologies or software should I consider? Thanks

Which one?     We have just got Windows 8 Release Preview installed in our offices. We wanted to open it up for viewing to the public and I'd like to know if there is a way to let people log in with their Windows Live ID without having to set up a user account for them beforehand? What we are after is a user being able to walk up to the PC, type in their Windows Live ID and password, and they're logged in as a default user. Is this doable in Windows 8, and if so, how?

  • VPN trace route

    I am inside an Active Directory (AD) domain and trying to trace route to another AD domain at a remote site, but supposedly connected by VPN in between. the local domain can be accessed at 192.168.3.x and the remote location 192.168.2.x. When I do a tracert, I am suprised to see that the results did not show the intermediate ISP nodes.   • Live Mesh starts exactly once on fresh Win7 Ultimate installation

    I did a fresh install of Windows 7 Ulimate 64-bit on a formatted drive on a refurbed Lenovo PC, applied all 102 (!) windows updates, windows seems to be working fine. No quirks installing, no apps, no junkware, just straight, legal, Win7 Ultimate right from an unopened 2009 Microsoft box. Ok, breathe sigh -- Install Live Mesh (no messenger, no mail, no writer, no photo, none of the rest of the Windows Live freeware). Set up my shares, let it run overnight. watch MOE.exe in the Task-Manager perf pane to make sure it's all settled down. reboot. Ok, check that MOE is running and files are getting updated properly from other machines in the mesh. Great. HOWEVER -- when I try to launch Windows Live Mesh app from the Start jewel, I get a brief hourglass, then nothing. Reboot. Same story. result -- the shares I already posted seem to be synching properly, but I can't run the app, so I can't add and delete shares. The background process MOE seems to run, but I can't get the app going. btw, the reason I did this fresh install is I had exactly the same experience running Vista, so I wiped the machine hoping it would solve this nasty problem. Imagine my surprise! Will be grateful for clues, advice, etc, please & thanks!

  • Cannot uninstall Office Live Add-in 1.4 after installing Office 2010

    Last night I upgraded to Office 2010 RTM from MSDN. I'm now trying to uninstall the Office Live Add-in that I used with Office 2007 as this functionality is built in to Office 2010. When I run the uninstall from control panel I get the following message: Microsoft Office Live Add-in cannot be installed because you do not have the right version of Microsoft Office installed on your computer Google has pointed to 2 solutions, both of which are pretty useless: Use the MS Windows Installer Cleanup - this is not good because all it does is remove the Installer entry from the registry, leaving all the installed files behind Uninstall Office 2010, uninstall Add-in, reinstall Office 2010 - that is just rediculous, but typical MS response So, can I get this off my system without resorting to option 2?

  • Multiple Schedule/Task Views (devs, customer, etc) in MS Project (or other)

    Is there a way to configure multiple views/filters in MS Project for the same set of tasks? I want to have a view that is configured for customer's only, for example. So, it would have large milestone tasks only, and hide all of the details that are there for the benefit of the team members. If MS Project doesn't do this, is there any project management software that does? A free/open source version would be preferable. Edit: Apparently, "filter" was the word I needed in my Google searches. I found how to mark a task as a Milestone and use the pre-made Milestone filter. However, that still doesn't hide non-Milestone tasks the way I want it to. I haven't figured out how to make a true custom filter.

  • Edit the Windows Live Writer Custom Dictionary

    Windows Live Writer is a great tool for writing and publishing posts to your blog, but its spell check unfortunately doesn’t include many common tech words.  Here’s how you can easily edit your custom dictionary and add your favorite words. Customize Live Writer’s Dictionary Adding an individual word to the Windows Live Writer dictionary works as you would expect.  Right-click on a word and select Add to dictionary. And changing the default spell check settings is easy too.  In the menu, click Tools, then Options, and select the Spelling tab in this dialog.  Here you can choose your dictionary language and turn on/off real-time spell checking and other settings. But there’s no obvious way to edit your custom dictionary.  Editing the custom dictionary directly is nice if you accidently add a misspelled word to your dictionary and want to remove it, or if you want to add a lot of words to the dictionary at once. Live Writer actually stores your custom dictionary entries in a plain text file located in your appdata folder.  It is saved as User.dic in the C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Roaming\Windows Live Writer\Dictionaries folder.  The easiest way to open the custom dictionary is to enter the following in the Run box or the address bar of an Explorer window: %appdata%\Windows Live Writer\Dictionaries\User.dic   This will open the User.dic file in your default text editor.  Add any new words to the custom dictionary on separate lines, and delete any misspelled words you accidently added to the dictionary.   Microsoft Office Word also stores its custom dictionary in a plain text file.  If you already have lots of custom words in it and want to import them into Live Writer, enter the following in the Run command or Explorer’s address bar to open Word’s custom dictionary.  Then copy the words, and past them into your Live Writer custom dictionary file. %AppData%\Microsoft\UProof\Custom.dic Don’t forget to save the changes when you’re done.  Note that the changes to the dictionary may not show up in Live Writer’s spell check until you restart the program.  If it’s currently running, save any posts you’re working on, exit, and then reopen, and all of your new words should be in the dictionary. Conclusion Whether you use Live Writer daily in your job or occasionally post an update to a personal blog, adding your own custom words to the dictionary can save you a lot of time and frustration in editing.  Plus, if you’ve accidently added a misspelled word to the dictionary, this is a great way to undo your mistake and make sure your spelling is up to par!   • Google is not treating two Australian schools as separate sites when both are subdomains of qld.edu.au

    My question relates to two websites, each of which is a "Calvary Christian College", however in two totally different locations and unrelated to each other entirely (except by name, and thus domain). All schools in the state are issued a <school-name>.qld.edu.au subdomain, in this case calvary.qld.edu.au and calvarycc.qld.edu.au. Now what's interesting is that these domains are crossing each other in sitelinks for searches such as calvary christian college townsville. The green data here is for one school (the Townsville school, as per search term), and the red data is for the other school. I've put a demotion in for this 6 months ago (we control calvary.qld.edu.au), however we're seeing no change on the results page. I have been able to get the owners of calvarycc.qld.edu.au to submit demotions for our domain, which should go in sometime in the next few days. What can we do to tell Google that these websites are not interchangeable, despite both appearing as "subdomains" of qld.edu.au? We can possibly open channels of communication with the administrators of qld.edu.au but will need to tell them what we need to change, and at this point I'm out of ideas.

  • jquery .live() event interactions

    Let's say I have a scenario where I have a global plugin (or at least a plugin that binds to a wider array of events). This plugin takes a selector, and binds a live click to it. Something in pseudo-jquery that might look like this: $.fn.changeSomething = function(){ $(this).live("change", function(){ alert("yo");}); } On another page, I have an additional live binding something like this: $("input[type='checkbox']").live("click", function(){alert("ho");}); Within this scenario, the checkbox would ideally end up being bound to both live events. What I'm seeing is that the change event fires as it should, and I'm alerted "yo". However, using this live click event, I never trigger it. However, using an explicit click binding, I DO hit it. The easy workaround is to trigger a click event at the end of the live change handler, but this seems janky to me. Any ideas? Note that this is using jquery 1.4.2 and only occurs in IE8 (I supposed 6/7 would too, but I haven't tested them).

But I want to use a free driver to do my work. The purpose of my job is to transfer daily (weekly) an Oracle 11g database with data from an existing database MS ACCESS 2007. And I thought to use a procedure (Hibernate EJB) Java to be launched automatically every week to do the data transfer. Is this is the best solution ? Configuration : sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver v??? Hibernate v3.4 Eclipse ps: If you are a HXTT developer or seller please be indulgent with my post ;). Making money by making people believe that you help, it's bad ! A solution is to use Derby Client driver, as the solution in the post: Does anyone know if Hibernate and java will work effectively with Access?     Hi, I'm interested in booting-off-flash (i.e. like livecd) for more secure online banking at home. -I like system rescue CD, but AFAIK it doesn't have the wifi drivers. (These are convenient) -ubuntu live cd has the wi-fi drivers, but also has a lot of stuff I don't need -I'd like a way to save some basic config settings (e.g. wifi SSID and passphrase), so that wifi works upon startup, i.e. without having to re-enter the settings. What's the best way to 'roll my own slightly-customized boot-from-flash live cd? thanks, bill

  • Sign out of Windows Live Messenger remotely

    I just upgraded Windows Live Messenger at home. I'm logged into my machine at work so I have a Live session active there too. Now the fun part. This new version of messenger is signing me out after about 2 minutes, and saying "You were signed out from here because you signed in to a version of Messenger that doesn't let you sign in at more than on place" Ok, so I went into the options on my home machine and selected "Sign me out at all other locations". Is there another way I can force my office machine to logout remotely, as either this option does not work, or the machine in my office just keeps reconnecting. Version 2009 14.0.8089.726 EDIT: Actually this problem went away after a few hours; I guess some kind of server side timeout kicked in.

    We are in the process of switching over to ACCESS 2007. We have numerous data tables in ACCESS 2003 files. In one case, the user has 2007 on his PC and opend the front end in 2007. No problems. When the the user is done, he clicks a button that executes a macro full of update queries. The macro reaches the first query and halts. We get a messge saying we do not have permisons to write to this linked table (2003 format). There were no security files involved. We re-linked from 2007, same problem. LAN permssions were ok. I wound up having to import the tables to front end in order for the user to be able to do his job.

  • Windows Live Messenger giving me 8100030d on sign-in

    I'll bullet point things of note: Other accounts work on the same machine. This is a problem across a few machines. I can sign in no problem on some machines. I can use Web Messenger on the problem machines. I'm using the latest version of Messenger. I've uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted. Deleting the "Windows Live Contacts" folder doesn't help. Deleting the Contacts registry entries doesn't work. I'm not using AVG (and besides, can sign in with other accounts) It successfully connects (and signs me out of eBuddy) before erroring. It creates files in the Windows Live Contacts folder. Windows XP running on the problem machines. I'm not sure what other things it could be... This has also been asked at http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Internet_Email/Chat_-_IM/Q_25449997.html, so let's see which system gets me the better response...

  • Windows Live Family Safety Service keeps closing Start Menu

    Got my kids a new Toshiba Laptop for Christmas. I was setting it all up for them so it would be ready to go. Tonight I installed Windows Live Family Safety Parental Controls. In the process of testing I discovered that on all the accounts the Start Menu closes automatically within 3 seconds (or less) of opening. It seems that it happens every 3 seconds, so sometimes it is immediate, and if I open it again then it will stay open for a full 3 seconds. This of course is rather annoying, and I need to wrap it up so it is ready to go under the tree. I disabled the Windows Live Family Safety Service, and that fixed it. Enable it again and the behavior returns. Is this a feature of the service? Can I disable that feature and keep the other features?

    Hello, Recently I'm trying the Window Live Mail client. Simple and beautiful. I have set up an IMAP account, and I'm used that a client only downloads headers. However Windows Live Mail automatically creates a list of tasks to download all messages from all directories when you are closing the client. Is it possible to avoid this? It's a good and a bad thing. You can work offline and you have a backup, but it takes extremely long to perform, in fact I have about hundred of thousand of emails. This task can take a whole day to perform. After looking in the settings I don't see anything special, maybe you have an idea? Thank you Mike

  • Enable live streaming on website

    I have a server colocated in a datacentre (dedicated 1Gbit line, SSDs, etc.) running CentOS 5.4 64-bit. I want to stream live video from a device (webcam, camcorder, whatever.) to my server which inturn can re-broadcast it on demand through a flash player (such as Flowplayer) so that more users will be able to watch the stream since the server is quite fast. Does a solution like this exist already (streaming software from live source to flash media server) or will I need to hire someone to code it? I see that VLC has an option to stream video.. will that be suitable in this case? Or is there a better way to do it? I don't want a browser based solution on my end. It'll be great if this can be done without running an X server but I don't mind either way. This will be running on a dedicated PC at home.

  • writing data onto a linux live-dvd

    I have a server machine with a dvd-writer. I want to burn a linux live-dvd (openSUSE is preferred) with a pre-configured web server, so that after booting the web server should be ready to serve. The web server has a sqlite database (with very less data). But after rebooting the system, all data in the database will get lost. Is it possible to store all necessary data onto this live-dvd as well? If it were a usb drive. I would create two partition and mount the second partition with read-write permission. But I have no idea how to create two partition onto a dvd Any hint is appreciated
