  • Positioning DIV's with Javascript

    I have two divs that I need to position horizontally dependent on the width of the user's screen. I've styled their vertical position in CSS, and I am trying to position them horizontally using Javascript. My divs: <div id="tl"> blah blah </div> <div id="bl"> blah blah </div> My CSS: #tl { position: absolute; top: -14px; right: 0; } #bl { position: absolute; bottom: 1px; right: 0; } My Javascript: var tl = document.getElementById('tl'); var bl = document.getElementById('bl'); var wide = parseInt(screen.width); var nudge = wide*.86; nudge = nudge+21; tl = tl.style; tl.right = ( parseInt(tl.right) + nudge ); bl = bl.style; bl.right = ( parseInt(bl.right) + nudge ); However... nothing happens. No errors, and definitely no movement from my divs. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone help?

  • CSS compilers and converting IE hacks to conditional css

    Skip to bottom for question, but first, a little context. So I have been looking into CSS compilers (like Sass & Less) for a while, and have been really interested in them, not because they help me understand anything easier (I've been doing css for a couple of years now) but rather they cut down on cruft and help me see things easier. I recently have been looking into reliably implementing inline-block (and clearfix), which require lots of extraneous code & hacks. Now according to all the authorities in the field, I shouldn't put IE hacks in the same page I do my CSS in, I should make them conditional. But for me that is a really big hassle to go through and manage all this additional code, which is why I really like things like Less. Instead of applying unsemantic classes, you specify a mixin and apply it once, and you're all set. So I guess I got a little of the track (I wanted to explain my points) but bascially, I'm at the point where these CSS compilers are very useful for me, and allow me to abstract a lot of the cruft away, and reliably apply them once and then just compile it. I would like to have a way to be able to compile IE specific styles into their own conditional files (ala Less / Sass) so I don't have to deal with managing 2 files for no reason. Does anything like a script/applcation that runs and can make underscore / star hacks apart of their own file exist?

  • $_GET loading content before head tag instead of in specified div.

    NOT EDITING BELOW BUT THANKS TO SOME REALLY NICE PEOPLE I CAN'T POST AN IMAGE ANYMORE BECAUSE I HAD a 15 Rep but NOW ONLY A 5 becuase my question wasn't what they wanted help with they gave me a neg rep. The problem is that the content loads it displays UNDER the div i placed #CONTENT# inside so the styles are being ignored and it's posting #CONTENT# outside the divs at positions 0,0 any suggestions? Found out whats happening by using "View Source" seems that it's putting all of the #CONTENT#, content that's being loaded in front of the <head> tag. Like this <doctype...> <div class="home"> \ blah blah #CONTENT# bot being loaded in correct specified area </div> / <head> <script src=""></script> </head> <body> <div class="header"></div> <div class="contents"> #CONTENT# < where content SHOULD load </div> <div class="footer"></div> </body> so anyone got a fix? Has anyone any experience with this problem? EDIT: ADDITIONAL INFO I can successfully insert elements into the documents this way in Firefox (method="xml"): var frag = document.createDocumentFragment(); var p = document.createElement('p'); p.appendChild(document.createTextNode('Ipsum Lorem')); frag.appendChild(p); $('body').append(frag); but I'm running into a similar problem with the .remove() method. It is looking more and more that Firefox doesn't construct a DOM from XML that jQuery can relate to, or somesuch.

    I know that is the reason some people don't approve of them, but does it really matter? I think that the power that they provide, in interacting with JavaScript and storing and sending information from and to the server, outweighs the validation concern. Am I missing something? What are the ramifications of "invalid" HTML? And wouldn't a custom DTD resolve them anyway?

  • Why is there a margin at the top of my browser?

    I have a web page that is displays differently in Firefox and Safari (IE testing yet to come). The page displays as expected in Safari, but there is a 50px margin between the body and the HTML that I can't determine what is causing it. Here is the CSS for the body: body { font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.333em; background: #f6eaae url(../_images/parchment-big.jpg) no-repeat center top; font-family: "Lucida Grande", Lucida, Verdana, sans-serif; color: #323232; } I would really appreciate some assistance in finding what is causing this difference. Ideally the Firefox version is better because it gives that extra breathing room at the top. Thanks.

Also app in question being 3rd-party - there's no way to change it's own CSS files. Is there a way to use per domain injected custom CSS in internet Explorer. Let's say I want to change the background-color of domain http://oldapp.localintranet/ - is there any way to make this happen? Place to put a custom.css-file? With an add-on/extension?

When it comes to choosing one, it's easy to be lost without having an intimate knowledge of all of them. What are the main factors that go into choosing a CSS framework, and how will those choices map to certain frameworks? More generally, how does one choose a CSS framework? Note 1: I'm using "grid" and "framework" almost interchangeably here, but there is probably one I should use over the other. Corrections on this are welcome. Note 2: I am well aware that some choices will depend on taste and accordingly, this question can turn into a "best of" contest/subjective topic.     yes another problem with this scroll bar alright so I started the website over again that was mentioned here and I am having problems with this scroll bar again alright so all I have is a single image in a div tag <div align="center" id="SuggestionBox"> <a href="?PageN=2"><img src="images/SuggestionBox.jpg"/></a> </div> this code displays right but when I make the browser window small enough that the full image can not be seen it doesn't give me a scroll bar to see the whole image hopefully this makes sense I am using firefox thanks Good Luck get it?
