  • Tweak Conky Layout via a script

    - by begtognen
I'm using a script in Conky in order to display my new gmail on my desktop. It works beautifully, but is kind of ugly, and I'm not sure how to fix it. What I've currently got looks like this: And what I'd like is this: Any ideas for how to make that happen are much appreciated. Here's the script I'm currently using (I think I've snipped out the correct part, if I haven't please let me know.) #!/usr/bin/perl use Switch; use Text::Wrap; my $what=$ARGV[0]; $user="username"; #username for gmail account $pass="password"; • File Access problems with SLES 10 SP2 OES2 SP1

    - by Blackhawk131
We have identified a couple of repeatable, demonstrable scenarios with unexplained rejected folder access on our servers for Mac users. Hopefully, this can be presented to Novell for a solution. What we did to demonstrate scenario 1; 1. setup a PC and Mac side-by-side 2. login to our server and open up to a central location on both Mac and PC 3. on the PC in that central location create a folder 4. on the Mac in that central location drag the created folder to the Mac desktop, this should work fine, no problem 5. on the PC rename that folder 6. on the Mac drag a file to that renamed folder, this should error with the following message; a. You cannot copy some of these items to the destination because their names are too long for the destination. Do you want to skip copying these items and continue copying the other items? b. Select skip, response is the filename is copied to the location with zero or small byte size. Try opening it and you get file is corrupted error message. What we did to demonstrate scenario 2; 1. setup a PC and Mac side-by-side 2. login to our server and open up to a central location on both Mac and PC 3. on the PC in that central location create a folder then create a subfolder 4. copy some content into the subfolder 5. on the Mac in that central location drag the created top level folder to the Mac desktop, this should work fine, no problem 6. on the PC rename that subfolder 7. on the Mac drag that top level folder to the Mac desktop, this should error on the Mac with the following; a. The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for b. The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for 8. on the Mac, if you open that subfolder you can see the file copied in step 4 above but, you can not open that file, you get the following message if you try; a. There was an error opening this document. You do not have permission to open this file. 9. on the PC drag some content into the top level folder 10. on the Mac you can open that file directly from the server or copy it locally, no problem, however-the subfolder is still corrupted or locked, whichever 11. on the PC rename the top level folder 12. on the Mac that same file just opened in step 10 above is now not accessible, get the following message; a. The document could not be opened. I have observed some variances in the above. For instance, a change on the PC side may take a moment before you can observer or act on the Mac side - kind of like the server is slow to respond. Also, the error message may vary. However, the key is once a folder, or subfolder, gets renamed by a PC, Mac problems commence. The solution is to create a new folder from a PC and copy the contents of the corrupted folder to the new folder and not rename the folder name. This has to be done on a PC because the corrupted folder is not accessible by a Mac user. Another problem that dovetails with the above is that we know certain characters are not allowed for PC folder or filenames. If a Mac user creates a folder with a slash in the file name, from the PC the user does not see that slash in the name. As soon as the PC user copies a file to that folder, the Mac user is locked from that folder. Will get the following error message; - Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred. - (Error code - 50) In addition to the above mentioned character issue with folders, the problem is more evil with filenames. If, for example, you create a file with a slash in the filename on a Mac and copy it to the server you will get the following error message; - You cannot copy some of these items to the destination because their names are too long for the destination. Do you want to skip copying these items and continue copying the other items? Select either Stop or Skip buttons. It does not matter which button is selected. The file name gets copied to the destination location at a reduced size. Depending on the file type, the icon associated with the file may or may not be present. Furthermore, if you open that file on the server you will get the following message; - Couldnt open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that doesnt recognize. From the users perspective, if they are not observant of the icon or file size, they may disregard the error message and think their file has copied as intended. Only later do they discover the file is corrupt if they open that file. I want to make a note on this problem. It is the PC causing the issue. You can change folder and file names all day on a MAC and you don't have a problem as long as a character is not the issue. Once you change the file name or folder name from a PC the entire folder structure from that level down is corrupted. But it has to be resolved from a PC by creating a new folder and copying the contents to the new folder like stated above. Is something not configured correctly? • Disable .htaccess from apache allowoverride none, still reads .htaccess files

    - by John Magnolia
I have moved all of our .htaccess config into <Directory> blocks and set AllowOverride None in the default and default-ssl. This violates # the SSL/TLS standard but is needed for some brain-dead browsers. Use # this when you receive I/O errors because of the standard approach where # mod_ssl sends the close notify alert. # o ssl-accurate-shutdown: # This forces an accurate shutdown when the connection is closed, i.e. a # SSL close notify alert is send and mod_ssl waits for the close notify # alert of the client. This is 100% SSL/TLS standard compliant, but in # practice often causes hanging connections with brain-dead browsers. Use # this only for browsers where you know that their SSL implementation # works correctly. # Notice: Most problems of broken clients are also related to the HTTP # keep-alive facility, so you usually additionally want to disable # keep-alive for those clients, too. Use variable "nokeepalive" for this. # Similarly, one has to force some clients to use HTTP/1.0 to workaround # their broken HTTP/1.1 implementation. Use variables "downgrade-1.0" and # "force-response-1.0" for this. Directives that control the operation of the Apache server process as a # whole (the 'global environment'). # 2. Directives that define the parameters of the 'main' or 'default' server, # which responds to requests that aren't handled by a virtual host. # These directives also provide default values for the settings # of all virtual hosts. # 3. • Should my web server add trailing slashes to URLs or remove them?

    - by jnm2
I've read in several places that you should decide whether you want trailing slashes or no trailing slashes in your site URLs and stick to your choice consistently. This makes sense, but which should I pick? Is there a convention I ought to follow, performance to be gained, or is it totally up to my taste? (I notice that the StackExchange sites link without trailing slashes, but SE doesn't redirect if you add a slash.)

  • Logitech keboard wrong keys under MAC OSX

    - by David Casillas
I have a Logitech MK250 keyboard I use with my Macbook. One day the "minor/mayor than" and the "back slash" keys flip their functionality, so I have to hit "backslash" to get a "minor than" symbol and press the "alt + minor than" key to get the "backslash". Is there any way to reverse this annoying behavior? I often switch to Windows, where the keys work the expected way, and I'm always missing the right key.

  • Volume keys not working after installing Silverlight

    - by terry
I downloaded Silverlight for Safari to use Netflix. This download has caused my MacBook's volume keys to become non-functional, although I can still change volume through the icon in the menu bar or through system preferences. When I press the keys to change the volume, the transparent volume icon appears on the screen with a circle-slash icon at bottom center. Does anyone know how to make the keys functional again? I deleted Silverlight but still no sound.

  • File Access problems with SLES 10 SP2 OES2 SP1

• How can I reset the permissions of /bin /boot /etc and /dev to orignal owner, Ubuntu?

    - by Camsoft
I accidentally changed the ownership of the /bin, /boot, /etc and /dev recursively to nobody:nogroup using chown when I misplaced a forward slash! How can I resort the original file ownerships? I've managed to get them all to root:root but I'm not sure if all the files should be owned by root and if this will break something? Is they are option to fix file permissions like there is in OS X? Help!

  • Why isn't this rewrite rule (nginx) applied? (trying to setup Wordpress multisite)

    - by Brian Park
    Hi, I'm trying to setup Wordpress multisite (subfolder structure) with nginx, but having a problem with this rewrite rule. Below is the Apache's .htaccess, which I have to translate into nginx configuration. RewriteEngine On RewriteBase /blogs/ RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L] # uploaded files RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$2 [L] # add a trailing slash to /wp-admin RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?wp-admin$ $1wp-admin/ [R=301,L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d RewriteRule ^ - [L] RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(wp-(content|admin|includes).*) $2 [L] RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(.*\.php)$ $2 [L] RewriteRule . index.php [L] Below is what I came up with: server { listen 80; server_name example.com; server_name_in_redirect off; expires 1d; access_log /srv/www/example.com/logs/access.log; error_log /srv/www/example.com/logs/error.log; root /srv/www/example.com/public; index index.html; try_files $uri $uri/ /index.html; # rewriting uploaded files rewrite ^/blogs/(.+/)?files/(.+) /blogs/wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$2 last; # add a trailing slash to /wp-admin rewrite ^/blogs/(.+/)?wp-admin$ /blogs/$1wp-admin/ permanent; if (!-e $request_filename) { rewrite ^/blogs/(.+/)?(wp-(content|admin|includes).*) /blogs/$2 last; rewrite ^/blogs/(.+/)?(.*\.php)$ /blogs/$2 last; } location /blogs/ { index index.php; #try_files $uri $uri/ /blogs/index.php?q=$uri&$args; } location ~ \.php$ { include /etc/nginx/fastcgi_params; fastcgi_pass 127.0.0.1:9000; fastcgi_index index.php; fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME /srv/www/example.com/public$fastcgi_script_name; } # static assets location ~* ^.+\.(manifest)$ { access_log /srv/www/example.com/logs/static.log; } location ~* ^.+\.(ico|ogg|ogv|svg|svgz|eot|otf|woff|mp4|ttf|css|rss|atom|js|jpg|jpeg|gif|png|ico|zip|tgz|gz|rar|bz2|doc|xls|exe|ppt|tar|mid|midi|wav|bmp|rtf)$ { # only set expires max IFF the file is a static file and exists if (-f $request_filename) { expires max; access_log /srv/www/example.com/logs/static.log; } } } In the above code, I believe rewrite ^/blogs/(.+/)?(.*\.php)$ /blogs/$2 last; has no effect because when I look at the access_log file, I see the following line: 2010/09/15 01:14:55 [error] 10166#0: *8 "/srv/www/example.com/public/blogs/test/index.php" is not found (2: No such file or directory), request: "GET /blogs/test/ HTTP/1.1" (Here, 'test' is the second blog created using multisite feature) What I'm expecting is that /blogs/test/index.php gets rewritten to /blogs/index.php, but it doesn't seem to do that... Am I overlooking something obvious? Thanks!

  • Running a shell script in *nix

    - by Ben
Bit of a newb using *nix (I'm actually using a bash shell in OS X 10.5) and I wondered what the probably very simple answer is to this... When I write a script (called, say, my_script) and I've saved it to the current directory, why do I have to put a period and a forward slash in front of its name to run it? Like this: ./my_script Can't the shell tell that I want to run it from the current directory? Windows seems to handle that situation. Cheers Ben

  • How can I disable the css {position:fixed} side-bar on Slashdot?

    - by Tom
When I look at a story on Slashdot, I see a side-bar that sits constantly in the upper-left corner. Every time I open a story, I have to click on the "slash" sign in its upper-right corner. How can I disable it, so it will always have css position absolute, relative or static? Is there an option for it? Because I find it is slowing my browser down when I am scrolling the page. Thank you, Tom

  • Nginx + Wordpress Multisite 3.4.2 + subdirectories + static pages and permalinks

    - by UrkoM
I am trying to setup Wordpress Multisite, using subdirectories, with Nginx, php5-fpm, APC, and Batcache. As many other people, I am getting stuck in the rewrite rules for permalinks. I have followed these two guides, which seem to be as official as you can get: http://evansolomon.me/notes/faster-wordpress-multisite-nginx-batcache/ http://codex.wordpress.org/Nginx#WordPress_Multisite_Subdirectory_rules It is partially working: http://blog.ssis.edu.vn works. http://blog.ssis.edu.vn/umasse/ works. But other permalinks, like these two to a post or to a static page, don't work: http://blog.ssis.edu.vn/umasse/2008/12/12/hello-world-2/ http://blog.ssis.edu.vn/umasse/sample-page/ They either take you to a 404 error, or to some other blog! Here is my configuration: server { listen 80 default_server; server_name blog.ssis.edu.vn; root /var/www; access_log /var/log/nginx/blog-access.log; error_log /var/log/nginx/blog-error.log; location / { index index.php; try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php?$args; } # Add trailing slash to */wp-admin requests. rewrite /wp-admin$ $scheme://$host$uri/ permanent; # Add trailing slash to */username requests rewrite ^/[_0-9a-zA-Z-]+$ $scheme://$host$uri/ permanent; # Directives to send expires headers and turn off 404 error logging. location ~* \.(js|css|png|jpg|jpeg|gif|ico)$ { expires 24h; log_not_found off; } # this prevents hidden files (beginning with a period) from being served location ~ /\. { access_log off; log_not_found off; deny all; } # Pass uploaded files to wp-includes/ms-files.php. rewrite /files/$ /index.php last; if ($uri !~ wp-content/plugins) { rewrite /files/(.+)$ /wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$1 last; } # Rewrite multisite '.../wp-.*' and '.../*.php'. if (!-e $request_filename) { rewrite ^/[_0-9a-zA-Z-]+(/wp-.*) $1 last; rewrite ^/[_0-9a-zA-Z-]+.*(/wp-admin/.*\.php)$ $1 last; rewrite ^/[_0-9a-zA-Z-]+(/.*\.php)$ $1 last; } location ~ \.php$ { # Forbid PHP on upload dirs if ($uri ~ "uploads") { return 403; } client_max_body_size 25M; try_files $uri =404; fastcgi_pass unix:/var/run/php5-fpm.sock; fastcgi_index index.php; fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME $document_root$fastcgi_script_name; include /etc/nginx/fastcgi_params; } } Any ideas are welcome! Have I done something wrong? I have disabled Batcache to see if it makes any difference, but still no go.

  • replace multiple characters at different places in a string Excel 2007

    - by conspirisi
=SUBSTITUTE(AD!H35,"&","") The formula above replaces an ampersand in a cell where I have the text Handy Person / Driver & Car giving Handy Person / Driver Car How do I also remove the forward slash '/' ? I've seen it done with nested substitute formulas, but as I probably need to remove even more characters in the future. I'd rather use a more elegant solution. Perhaps even replacing an entire class of non-alphanumeric characters is another solution?

I tried both [B] and [NE] flags (separate and together) but nothing worked.

  • Remove multiple trailing slashes in a single 301 in .htaccess?

    - by Jakobud
There is a similar question here, but the solution does not work in Apache for our site. I'm trying to remove multiple trailing slashes from URLs on our site. I found some .htaccess code that seems to work: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^(.*)//(.*)$ RewriteRule . %1/%2 [R=301,L] This rule removes multiple slashes from anywhere in the URL: http://www.mysite.com/category/accessories//// becomes http://www.mysite.com/category/accessories/ However, it redirects once for every extra slash. So: http://www.mysite.com/category/accessories/////// 301 Redirects to http://www.mysite.com/category/accessories////// 301 Redirects to http://www.mysite.com/category/accessories///// 301 Redirects to http://www.mysite.com/category/accessories//// 301 Redirects to http://www.mysite.com/category/accessories/// 301 Redirects to http://www.mysite.com/category/accessories// 301 Redirects to http://www.mysite.com/category/accessories/ Is it possible to rewrite this rule so that it does it all in a single 301 redirect? Also, this above directive does not work at the root level of our site: http://www.mysite.com///// does not redirect but it should.

Go Daddy's Instructions are: 1.FTP Address or Hostname: Your Domain Name 2.FTP Username & Password: You selected both of these during account creation 3.Start Directory: You should leave this blank or include a single forward slash (i.e. /) 4.FTP Port: You should enter Standard, or 21. •FTP Client. ( ?Filezilla, ?WS-FTP, ?CuteFTP Pro, ?AceFTP ) Thanks!

  • Escaping In Expressions

The expressions language is a C style syntax, so you may need to escape certain characters, for example: "C:\FolderPath\" + @VariableName Should be "C:\\FolderPath\\" + @VariableName Another use of the escape sequence allows you to specify character codes, like this \xNNNN, where NNNN is the Unicode character code that you want. For example the following expression will produce the same result as the previous example as the Unicode character code 005C equals a back slash character: "C:\x005CFolderPath\x005C" + @VariableName For more information about Unicode characters see http://www.unicode.org/charts/ Literals are also supported within expressions, both string literals using the common escape sequence syntax as well as modifiers which influence the handling of numeric values. See the "Literals (SSIS)":http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-US/library/ms141001(SQL.90).aspx topic. Using the Unicode escaped character sequence you can make up for the lack of a CHAR function or equivalent.

  • Generation 4 Modular Data Center

    - by kaleidoscope
Microsoft’s launched Generation 4 Modular Data Center design at the PDC 09 - The 20-foot container built on container-based model. Microsoft says the use of server-packed containers – known as Pre-Assembled Components (PACs) – will allow it to slash the cost of building its new data centers. Completely optimized for outdoor use, with a design that relies upon fresh air (”free cooling”) rather than air conditioning. Its exterior is designed to draw fresh air into the cold aisle and expel hot air from the rear of the hot aisle. More details can be found at: http://www.datacenterknowledge.com/archives/2009/11/18/microsofts-windows-azure-cloud-container/   Rituraj, J

How do you correctly or erroneously pronounce programming terms? Any that you find need strict correction or history into the early CS culture? Programming char = "tchar" not care? ! = bang not exclamation? # = pound not hash? Exception #! = shebang * = splat not star? regex = "rej ex" not "regg ex"? sql = "s q l" not "sequel" (already answered, just i.e.) Unixen | = pipe not vertical bar? bin = bin as in pin , not as in binary? lib = lib as in library , not as in liberate? etc = "ett see" , not "e t c" (as in /etc and not "&c") Annoyance / = slash not backslash LaTeX = "laytek" not "lay teks"

  • Redirect before rewrite

    - by Kirk Strobeck
    Had an issue where I need to redirect old URLs, but not disable the mod_rewrite for page structure. redirect 301 /home.html http://www.url.com/ It needs to live on the Symphony 2.0 .htaccess file ### Symphony 2.0.x ### Options +FollowSymlinks -Indexes <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / ### DO NOT APPLY RULES WHEN REQUESTING "favicon.ico" RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} favicon.ico [NC] RewriteRule .* - [S=14] ### IMAGE RULES RewriteRule ^image\/(.+\.(jpg|gif|jpeg|png|bmp))$ extensions/jit_image_manipulation/lib/image.php?param=$1 [L,NC] ### CHECK FOR TRAILING SLASH - Will ignore files RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !/$ RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !(.*)/$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ $1/ [L,R=301] ### ADMIN REWRITE RewriteRule ^symphony\/?$ index.php?mode=administration&%{QUERY_STRING} [NC,L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^symphony(\/(.*\/?))?$ index.php?symphony-page=$1&mode=administration&%{QUERY_STRING} [NC,L] ### FRONTEND REWRITE - Will ignore files and folders RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^(.*\/?)$ index.php?symphony-page=$1&%{QUERY_STRING} [L] </IfModule> ######

  • Extremely Hybrid Game requirements

    - by tugrul büyükisik
What system specifications would a game need if it was: Total players per planet: ~20000 Total players per team:~1M Total players per map(small volume of space or small surface over a planet): ~2000 Total players: ~10M(world has more players than this amount i think) Two of the players are commanders of opposite quadrants(from HUD of a strategy game). Lots of players use space-crafts as a captain(like 3d fps and rts). Many many players control consoles in those space-crafts as under command of captains.(fps ) Some players are still in stone-age trying to reinvent wheel in some planet. Players design and construct any vehicles they have. With good physics engine Has puzzles inside. Everyone get experience by doing stuff(RPG). Commerce, income or totally different resource-based group(like starcraft) Player classes(primitive: cunning and strong, wrapped: healthy, wealthy) Arcade top-down style firing with ships when people get bored very low chance of miraculous things.(mediclorians, wormholes, bugs) Different game-modes: persistent(living world), resetted periodically(a new chance for noobs), instant(pre-built space + hack&slash) I suspect this would need 128GB ram and 2048 cores.

  • Subdomain Is Redirected and Causing an Error Because www. is Added

    - by user532493
On my site, say example.com, if I try to access test.example.com, Firefox automatically adds www. to test.example.com, making it www.test.example.com, which causes an error. However, if I visit a site like my.ebay.com, no www. is added so no error occurs. What's going on? Just in case, my .htaccess file is as follows: Options -Multiviews RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ $1.php I looked through Firebug and it seems like Firefox doesn't even make an attempt to reach test.example.com before reverting to www.test.example.com. One nuance I didn't realize until now. If I try to access the site using test.example.com/, the www. is added. If however that trailing slash is not there, then I am sent to the subdomain properly.
