  • Excel - Dynamic row reference based on the row I paste a formula into?

    I have a simple, oft-used formula that I paste as plain text into spreadsheets I receive. It looks something like this: =IF(D8="FOO", "BAR", "BAZ") It looks in D8 for the word "FOO". If it finds it it will show "BAR". If it doesn't it will show "BAZ" It works great. The problem is I have to paste this formula as plain text into many spreadsheets. It should ALWAYS look in column D for "FOO", however I don't always want it to look in row 8. I'd like it to look at whatever row I'm pasting it into. For example, if I pasted the above formula into row 25, say, I would like it to automatically change to this: =IF(D25="FOO", "BAR", "BAZ") Is there any way to achieve this?

    Tried to create a macro in Excel to insert a row: Sub InsertRow() ' ' InsertRow Macro ' ' Keyboard Shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+I ' Selection.EntireRow.Insert End Sub However, this does not insert a new row without first manually selecting a row. Every solution I've found requires that a row be highlighted before inserting a new row.   • Import Excel into Rails app

    Hi, I am creating a small rails app for personal use and would like to be able to upload excel files to later be validated and added to the database. I had this working previously with csv files, but this has since become impractical. Does anyone know of a tutorial for using the roo or spreadsheet gem to upload the file, display the contents to the user and then add to the database (after validating)? I know this is quite specific, but I want to work through this step by step. All I have so far is an 'import' view: <% form_for :dump, :url=>{:controller=>"students", :action=>"student_import"}, :html => { :multipart => true } do |f| -%> Select an Excel File : <%= f.file_field :excel_file -%> <%= submit_tag 'Submit' -%> <% end -%> But have no idea how to access this uploaded file in the controller. I have a spreadsheet of surveys, in which I need to see how particular users have varied over time. As such, I need to disregard all rows with unique values in a particular column.   • Accessing Google Spreadsheets with C# using Google Data API fails with Mono

    I'm trying to access my Google spreadsheets using the GData API. I have followed the example which looks like: var service = new SpreadsheetsService("myTest"); service.setUserCredentials(username, password); var query = new SpreadsheetQuery(); var feed = service.Query(query); This should return a feed with a list of spreadsheets. However this fails with: Google.GData.Client.GDataRequestException: Execution of request failed: http://spreadsheets.google.com/feeds/spreadsheets/private/full --- System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found. When I try the above link directly in my browser I'm able to download the feed, as long as I'm logged in into my Google account. Some further information: I'm not behind a firewall I have checked my username (maurits.rijk at gmail.com) and password several times I am using Mandriva in VirtualBox on a MacBook All my code is compiled with Mono I tried the same functionality in Java on OS-X. That code runs as expected.

    I am using Zend_Gdata_SpreadsheetsListQuery. In PHP my query is: "confirmation=$confirmation" The problem is that $confirmation = 'AB-CD-EFG-012345'; Apparently the hyphens are causing problems with the query and the exception thrown is: Uncaught exception 'Zend_Gdata_App_HttpException' with message 'Expected response code 200, got 400 Parse error: Invalid token encountered' How can I quote or escape the value to not cause parse errors? Single quotes cause the same error, double quotes don't throw errors but there are no results to match.

    I have a data table like so: a 1 a 2 b 3 b 4 c 5 c 6 c 7 I want to pull items out of this table by dynamically telling it what letters to pull. My current formula is: =query(A1:B7,"select * where A ='" & D1 & "'"). D1 being the cell I wish to modify to modify the query. I want to be able input into D1 -- a, a,b, a,b,c and have the query work. I know it would involve or statements in the query, but haven't figured out how to make the formula dynamic. I am looking for a general solution for this pattern: a -- A = 'a' a,b -- A = 'a' or A = 'b' a,b,c -- A = 'a' or A = 'b' or A='c' Or any other solution that solves the problem. Edit: So far I have =ArrayFormula(CONCATENATE("A='"&split(D3,",")&"' or ")) this gives A='a' or A='b' or A='c' or for a,b,c. can't figure out how to remove the last or.

    I am working with a decent sized spreadsheet of domains and server names. Another user of the spreadsheet needs the IP address for each of the DNS entries on the worksheet. Instead of manually adding and then having to maintain this list I was hoping there was an easy way to do an IPAddress lookup to display the IP address in a cell. I've seen some VBScripts that call gethostbyname, e.g.: Declare Function GetHostByName Lib "wsock32.dll" Alias "gethostbyname" (ByVal Host As String) As Long But I'm not a VB expert so I'm not sure if this is the right way to go. Any advice/links would be appreciated! also if this is a question better suited for Stack Overflow - let me know, I'm new here.
