  • Innovation, Adaptability and Agility Emerge As Common Themes at ACORD LOMA Insurance Forum

    - by [email protected]
Helen Pitts, senior product marketing manager for Oracle Insurance is blogging from the show floor of the ACORD LOMA Insurance Forum this week. Sessions at the ACORD LOMA Insurance Forum this week highlighted the need for insurance companies to think creatively and be innovative with their technology in order to adapt to continuously shifting market dynamics and drive business efficiency and agility.  LOMA President & CEO Robert Kerzner kicked off the day on Tuesday, citing how the recent downtown and recovery has impacted the insurance industry and the ways that companies are doing business.  He encouraged carriers to look for new ways to deliver solutions and offer a better service experience for consumers.  ACORD President & CEO Gregory Maciag reinforced Kerzner's remarks, noting how the industry's approach to technology and development of industry standards has evolved over the association's 40-year history and cited how the continued rise of mobile computing will change the way many carriers are doing business today and in the future. Drawing from his own experiences, popular keynote speaker and Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak continued this theme, delving into ways that insurers can unite business with technology.  "iWoz" encouraged insurers to foster an entrepreneurial mindset in a corporate environment to create a culture of creativity and innovation.  He noted that true innovation in business comes from those who have a passion for what they do.  Innovation was also a common theme in several sessions throughout the day with topics ranging from modernization of core systems, automated underwriting, distribution management, CRM and customer communications management.  It was evident that insurers have begun to move past the "old school" processes and systems that constrain agility, implementing new process models and modern technology to become nimble and more adaptive to the market.   Oracle Insurance executives shared a few examples of how insurers are achieving innovation during our Platinum Sponsor session, "Adaptive System Transformation:  Making Agility More Than a Buzzword." Oracle Insurance Senior Vice President and General Manager Don Russo was joined by Chuck Johnston, vice president, global strategy and alliances, and Srini Venkatasantham, vice president of product strategy.  The three shared how Oracle's adaptive solutions for insurance, with a focus on how the key pillars of an adaptive systems - configurable applications, accessible information, extensible content and flexible process - have helped insurers respond rapidly, perform effectively and win more business. Insurers looking to innovate their business with adaptive insurance solutions including policy administration, business intelligence, enterprise document automation, rating and underwriting, claims, CRM and more stopped by the Oracle Insurance booth on the exhibit floor.  It was a premiere destination for many participating in the exhibit hall tours conducted throughout the day. Finally, red was definitely the color of the evening at the Oracle Insurance "Red Hot" customer celebration at the House of Blues. The event provided a great opportunity for our customers to come together and network with the Oracle Insurance team and their peers in the industry.  We look forward to visiting more with of our customers and making new connections today. Helen Pitts is senior product marketing manager for Oracle Insurance.

  • Android emulator performance on linux

    - by Rado
I installed the android SDK and eclipse plugin on my laptop, but I was surprised to find out that the emulator eats up 100% of one of my cpu cores. I have exactly the same setup on a desktop machine that does not have this issue. Both computers are running arch linux and both were updated yesterday. Granted, the desktop has better hardware than the laptop, but I was expecting to get closer to 50% cpu usage than 100% on the laptop. Both android virtual devices have the same specs: CPU: ARM Target: Android 2.3.3 - API Level 10 Skin: WVGA800 SD Card: 512M hw.lcd.density: 240 vm.heapSize: 24 hw.ramSize: 256 Laptop host has Intel Core 2 T7200 @ 2GHz cpu with 2Gb RAM. Desktop host has AMD Phenom II X4 940 @ 3GHz cpu with 8Gb RAM. The android emulator uses only 1 core and here are the CPU usage results: Laptop: Cpu0 : 22.8%us, 76.5%sy, 0.0%ni, 0.3%id, 0.0%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.3%si, 0.0%st Cpu1 : 11.2%us, 2.4%sy, 0.0%ni, 86.4%id, 0.0%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.0%si, 0.0%st Mem: 2055484k total, 1860304k used, 195180k free, 5276k buffers Swap: 2000088k total, 106872k used, 1893216k free, 350780k cached PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND 2026 xyz 20 0 396m 207m 7192 R 100 10.3 4:11.58 emulator-arm Desktop: Cpu0 : 0.7%us, 0.0%sy, 0.0%ni, 99.3%id, 0.0%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.0%si, 0.0%st Cpu1 : 1.3%us, 0.0%sy, 0.0%ni, 98.7%id, 0.0%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.0%si, 0.0%st Cpu2 : 5.0%us, 1.3%sy, 0.0%ni, 91.9%id, 1.7%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.0%si, 0.0%st Cpu3 : 0.3%us, 0.3%sy, 0.0%ni, 99.3%id, 0.0%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.0%si, 0.0%st Mem: 7666324k total, 6506808k used, 1159516k free, 1650960k buffers Swap: 8988348k total, 0k used, 8988348k free, 2867300k cached PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND 2811 xyz 20 0 392m 220m 6276 S 8 2.9 0:33.58 emulator-arm Is there any way I can improve the emulator performance on the laptop? [UPDATE] I ran the emulator with the same settings, on the same laptop under Win7 and after starting up, it didn't use 100% of a CPU core unlike under linux. Also, I tried running the emulator from a terminal in Linux and I get this message when I don't get it under the desktop Linux host: Could not configure '/dev/hpet' to have a 1024Hz timer. This is not a fatal error, but for better emulation accuracy type: 'echo 1024 /proc/sys/dev/hpet/max-user-freq' as root. I'm not really familiar with rtc or hpet, but it doesn't seem that max-user-freq setting does anything, I still get the same warning.

Blackberry has an enterprise server that works with MS Exchange, and pushes all updates to the user's blackberry devices. We are considering switching to Android phones, which supposedly support Exchange servers. Will there be a similar program for Android? Are there any configuration changes that have to be done on Exchange server? (Exchange is behind the corp firewall).

  • Use gnome custom themes appearance in KDE?

    - by piedro
Is there a way to get the colors of a gnome custom theme to KDE without matching every single setting manually? (Theres tons of different color settings in the KDE color schemes, most of which I even don't know where they are applied ... I use KDE with compiz to run emerald as windows decorator. Because I really like the "Elementary"-theme. Because my eyes aren't that great I had to tweak the gtk-elementary theme for some additional contrast. I saved it as "elementary-piedro". Now I want to choose this theme in KDE-Systemsettings/appearance/gtk-applications but it doesnt't show the tweaked version? Where is it saved by the normal "gnome appearance preferences"-utility? Is there a way to use the tweaked settings for KDE-applications?

  • Updated Blue and Dark Visual Studio 2010 Themes

I updated my previous dark theme for Visual Studio 2010 and added a new one with a blue background, similar to the background (but a bit lighter) to that of Visual Studio 2010s blue. I updated a few fonts to fit in with it and for the past week I have been using this and found that its even easier on my eyes than the dark theme. I made some changes to the dark theme, too, and include both of them in the download file here. • Licenses that i can use for my works, web apps, desktop apps, wordpress themes etc

    - by jiewmeng
I originally thought of creative commons when while reading a book about wordpress (professional wordpress), I learned that I should also specify that the product is provided ... WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY; without even the implied warranty of MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE and they recommend GNU GPL. How do I write a license or select 1? btw, what does 'MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE' mean actually? Isn't without warranty enough?

  • looking for dark, high contrast theme

    - by d3pd
I am looking for a dark, contrast theme. Most dark, high-contrast themes I have tried do not give sufficient contrast to many edges, such as the edges of buttons, tabs, windows and other borders. Could you recommend themes that would provide such features? Alternatively, could you recommend a guide to changing a fairly dark theme, such as Numix-Cyanogen, such that it would feature light button, tab, window and other borders? Roughly visually, what I mean is to from this: to something like this:

Everything is set up including ADK, DemoKit Java application, firmware for Arduino. However, Demokit does not recognize as the device connected. So is there any workaround to this?

I also mentioned that one approach for implementing this functionality could be to encapsulate this code in Feature receiver. In this post, I will demonstrate and explain this approach for applying custom theme to SPWeb. Our custom theming Feature will On Feature Activated create and apply new theme to the existing web, while preserving information about current theme On Feature Deactivating...(read more)

  • Ubuntu 12.04 menu bar, nautilus, terminal, and gtk themes not working after installation of Gimp 2.8

    - by Chris
I installed gimp2.8 from this ppa: ppa:otto-kesselgulasch/gimp after that, my system began having problems. This is my thought process in trying to fix what's happened and the order in which it happened: I noticed the menu bar at the top changed from an opaque black to perfectly clear and the titles of applications and the hidden buttons reacted slowly. No big deal, restarted to see if it fixed it. It didn't, in fact, when the logon screen came up, the password field was grey and boxy like a default windows 98 theme (that's the best I can describe it) as were all the option buttons for gtk programs. I open terminal to try and reinstall gtk, but the terminal is just a black screen with no ability to input commands. I go to a tty and I reinstalled gtk3 and gtk2 (I have both on my system. I don't think they're in conflict, they hadn't been before hand). I restarted. Nothing doing. Log in, nautilus isn't placing icons on my desktop. I click the launcher. It flashes, but no window opens. Try to open by Alt+f2, nothing. I purge ubuntu-desktop, restart, reinstall ubuntu-desktop. Nothing. I have no clue what to do at this point so I'm asking for any help diagnosing the problem and fixing it.

  • App not showing up in Google Play search on app name [on hold]

    - by William Jockusch
About 30 hours ago, I released an app on Google Play. I am concerned that if you search on the exact app name, it does not show up in the results, even if you click "show more". https://play.google.com/store/search?q=free+graphing+calculator&c=apps It does show up if you put the name in quotes. But that's awfully low discoverability. https://play.google.com/store/search?q=%22free%20graphing%20calculator%22&c=apps Possibly relevant information: I had an earlier version with a different bundle ID. It was up for just an hour or so, and probably never actually visible to users. How can I fix this?
