  • Fans still running after shutdown after upgrade to Windows 8

    I'm running into a really annoying issue after upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8. I first noticed it during the initial (clean) install; when the installer tried to reboot, my machine (an acer aspire 4755G) just hung after the initial shutdown. That is, after the screen turns off, the power lights and fans are still running, and the machine itself doesn't restart. (I let it sit for a good 15 minutes, and it still didn't change) I managed to do a hard reset (power button for 5 seconds) and the install finished, but every shutdown/restart has been like that. Interestingly enough, hibernate works just fine. I've looked at other solutions where it said to use the bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes and that didn't work. I also turned off the "Fast Boot" option in the power settings menu. That didn't work either. So far, the only option is to do the hard shut down by holding down the power button, but that proves to be horribly inconvenient. Any ideas on what's going on here?

  • Unable to install drivers of any kind of device on windows 8.1

    Windows 8.1 is unable to install drivers. First, I wanted to install Android ADB drivers for my Chinese Android Phone. I downloaded the relevant drivers from the manufacturers site and enabled USB debugging on my phone and tried to install it but Windows failed to find any drivers in the driver folder. After searching on google, I got to know that I will have to edit the win_usb.inf file in order to install the drivers so I did the editing part also. Added these line: %SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C03 %CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0C03 to both NTamd and NTx86 sections but the problem persists. Phone's current hardware id is: VID_0BB4&PID_0C03 I noticed that I need hardware ID with &MI_01 appended at the end. But Windows detects the device with the above hardware ID. I have the webcam drivers so I uninstalled WebCam Drivers to check if they can be installed back but I am also not able to install drivers for it. Windows is detecting the camera without that &MI_01 part. Please help. I cannot install webcam nor my android phone.

  • Ubuntu cannot see Windows 7 partitions on install

    I've been trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 as a dual boot with Windows 7 on my Dell latitude e6510. It is currently running Windows 7 and I have used the MS disk tools to shrink the Win 7 NTFS partition to make room for Linux. The issue I'm having is that when I run Ubuntus installer by booting from CD it sees the entire hard drive as unallocated space. I have also tried Kbuntu 10.10, Fedora 14, booting a Gparted 0.8.0 usb drive, and Ubuntu "install in Windows" with wubi they all have problems. EDIT: When I run the "try Ubuntu" option on booting from cd it can mount my Windows partition and I can view the files. The output of sudo parted -l when running in try Ubuntu mode: Warning: /dev/sda contains GPT signatures, indicating that it has a GPT table. However, it does not have a valid fake msdos partition table, as it should. Perhaps it was corrupted -- possibly by a program that doesn't understand GPT partition tables.   • Upgrading Fedora to Current Version - Dependent Applications Concerns

    Is it possible to upgrade to Fedora 11 and still keep the server functional (it's running Fedora Core release 6 now, with MySQL 5.0, PHP 5.1 and Apache 2.2)? I have a Customer Relationship Management system on there and it is required on a daily basis. I am trying to figure out if I should upgrade (and whether that will cause huge problems) or if I should start over with a new OS (like Ubuntu) and install the CRM fresh, with updated version of MySQL, PHP, Apache, etc. I ask because I am not really the sysadmin, but have but put in charge of this server.

  • Can't install GTX 680 drivers on 12.04

    I recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my desktop. I have three monitors, and after installing, ubuntu only detected one at 1080p. I downloaded the driver from the nvidia website, but when I stop lightdm and try to run the driver, it gives me an error message: ERROR: Unable to find the kernel source tree for the currently running kernel. Please make sure you have installed the kernel source files for your kernel and that they are properly configured; on Red Hat Linux systems, for example, be sure you have the 'kernel-source' or 'kernel-devel' RPM installed. If you know the correct kernel source files are installed, you may specify the kernel source path with the '--kernel-source-path' command line option. I tried instead to install the driver via the terminal, with the X ppa. The installation seemed to work, but when I rebooted, my display was at 640x480 resolution, with no other options for resolution. The NVIDIA X Server settings program is there now, but when I run it, it simply tells me that I don't seem to be using their driver, and that I should run nvidia-xconfig as root. Doing so doesn't help, I simply get the same issue again. I checked the file at /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and it's an NVIDIA file (has nvidia in the header). Does anyone know something else I can try? EDIT: Forgot to mention, I tried installing drivers via the "Additional Drivers" GUI utility, there were two options, one of them marked "(post-release updates)". I tried both of them, in both cases it tried to download and install for a while, then said that there was an error, and that a description could be found at /var/log/jockey.log.   • Attempting to install ubuntu 11.10

    I installed version 9 sometime ago and since have forgotten the process for partitioning, or the layout is different. I have 5 partitions but only have windows xp installed on the pc in question with that being the one of those 5 partitions which is ntfs 34444 mb its - a 40gig hard-drive. My first question is... is there a way to get a screen shot of the partitioner when I am running the demo session straight from disc... these 5 partitions are fragmenting the other 4ish gig needed to install.. I get an error message which says go back and make sure 1 partition has at least 2.5 gig or so. But I have no idea what I am supposed to set these remaining 4 partitions to in order to proceed.. I have read up on install guides and understand that one must be "/" root and another as swap... but to no avail thus far have the correct combo. A few screen shots will no doubt help you guys answer as I'm baffled as to what specific details to give as each one has various settings on inspection, and I don't really feel like writing it all down manually then posting specs for each one

  • I want to replace 120GB SSD with 240GB SSD. Will I need to reinstall Windows?

    Some SSD vendors offer "upgrade kits" that are supposed to move the operating system from the old disk to the new one without the need to reinstall it, however, it didn't really quite work for me in the past and I always ended up installing the system from scratch. I'd really like to avoid it now so I'd like to ask: Generally speaking, when upgrading from a smaller to a larger SSD, will something like Windows Complete PC Backup and Restore work? Has someone experienced a seamless upgrade? Is there a proven tool to do that? (That worked for you, not that should work theoretically.) My problem usually is that the restored system sees a different disk, thinks it is a different hardware and doesn't want to restore.

    When I install PIL using easy_install or buildout it installs in such way, that I must do 'import Image', not 'from PIL import Image'. However, if I do "apt-get install python-imaging" or use "pip -E test_pil install PIL", all work fine.     I already have Visual Studio 2008 installed. When installing developer Sql Server 2008, do I need to check the Business Intelligence Development Studio option? I'm guessing not. I assume if I already have VS 2008, the install will just add the relevant Sql Server related project types into VS 2008. EDIT: I marked the question answered before I did the install - I've installed Sql Server before and I thought this was what happened, but on doing this install, leaving the BI studio option unchecked does NOT install the SQL Server projects in Visual Studio. I had to go back and install it, so the answer is... Check it! I was overthinking the install - it's smart enough not to install VS twice.

It is not clear on websites I have consulted (Microsoft TechNet and others) whether preparing Active Directory is only required on a NEW install of Exchange 2007 sp3, or if it is required when upgrading an existing Exchange 2007 install to sp3.     Question: What is the way to determine, ahead of time and without doing a full install of 64-bit Debian Testing NETINST, when Debian Testing has 32-bit libraries available and fully working and installable so that the following command works without broken package errors?: apt-get install ia32-libs ia32-libs-gtk The errors that occur when 32-bit libraries are not available, still in some broken state, or whatever is broken are detailed below. I already have concluded that "Just install Stable" is my stop-gap measure for now, but I would like to know the answer to the above question so as to avoid a lengthy installation process only to run into these problems at the very end. Details: I downloaded the 64-bit Debian Testing netinst a couple of days ago. This was "Jessie" built 20131014-06:07 via http://tinyurl.com/lejpa. This is weekly testing build. Yes, I know I should expect problems, and I did. I managed to get it completely installed and was able to invoke into GNOME, but not get past the 32-bit library problem. Not only is there broken packages, the system doesn't even know what packages are broken, so Debian Stable is my only solution I know of right now. Hence my question above.

  • Installing gcc on AIX 5.3

    we have a development AIX 5.3 on PowerPC CPU having the standard CC compiler. I downloaded the gcc 4.2.4, unpacked it and tried to install it seems there is something missing; untar takes around 15 minutes and ends with an error trying to create a directory starting with @ sign. and in the gcc folder itself, I can't find a configure or a Makefile to install any hint on how to do so?

    I'm a bit confused on what the license/deployment policy for Android is really like. Is it an open source OS in the same sense as let's say a normal Linux distro ? If I have an Android 1.6 device, can I simply install the latest version of Android on it free of charge, or is there a lot more to it ? I take it, it's not just a download and install workflow.

I've downloaded mass storage driverpack and slipstreamed them into the install. when the bootup begins I press f6 at the appropriate screen to enable sata drivers for my harddrive. Then it comes to the partition/harddrive selection screen, I only see my usb flash stick. I'm at my wits end with this problem. I need to install xp.

    Ok, so I've installed Ubuntu many times on my computer.. Normally on the same partition, and WIndows would always delete Ubuntu(I don't know how.. it just happens) if i go away from keyboard during boot and it chooses Windows automatically because I took to long. So i tried to reinstall again, but after the fifth time it wouldn't let me, and told me to check "wubi-12.04-rev266.log". It took a while to find, but when i found it, I had no idea what any of it meant, as I'm no programmer.I first tried this the day Precise Pangolin came out. SO skip ahead 2.5 months, when I finally found this file, and i then got the idea of making a new partition to install Ubuntu on, but I used wubi, like I always did. It didn't look like it would f anything up, so I did it. it went through all the downloads, extracting, etc. Which took about 40 minutes total, then ended with an error message saying to check "wubi-12.04-rev266.log". i did.
