• Where do you put scenarios on a scrum board?

  So traditional scrum board looks something like this Backlog | Story notStarted inprogress Done story 1 Story1 tasks Story 2 Story2 tasks Story .. Story n Epic x Epic x+1 However in general a story has many scenarios and when working with BDD you want to write each scenario for a story as Given, when and then. Also the scenarios don't belong in the notstarted column, inprogess or Done as a scenario is not a task. So you realize that a scenario/s should have their own column between "story" and "notstarted", as a scenario can have many task to be considered done. If you are going to build your task from scenarios then why would you need the story on the scrum board in the first place, maybe they should be left in the backlog. Some people put scenarios on the back of each story. This is a on going debate in my team and I wanted to see if anyone has solved this differently. Cheers!

• If PHP websites represnt 70% of websites in my country then should I learn it?

  In my country most of the sites are built using PHP and MySQL. Half of those sites use vbulletin and Wordpress. When it comes to companies, ministries and universities they use ASP.NET. I am not sure what should I learn to get more money as freelacer? Should I learn ASP.NET and focus my area to build companies and universities' sites? (And the question if they will know me one day and ask me to build any of their sites or not?) Or should I learn PHP and focus my business on people's sites and maybe some small formal sites? Which option will give me more money?

• This not having job, is driving me nuts!

  I had two jobs lined up (temporary but, hey they pay), one of which was in IT. A very low paying IT job for only 30 hours a week and only 3 weeks. At a large high tech company and a government (a not in my field job) temporary, paying a bit more, for little longer and for up to 40 hours a week. I was going to happily work my little self raged for the next 3 weeks. Guess what, the IT job fell thru and I now feel so let down. This I felt was my chance to get back in to IT, even if it was only for few weeks and maybe get note-us as hard working IT guy. I still have the other job but, let me add that there is no chance that it will turn in to something longer (I have been told that point blank). As I said this is nuts.

  I'm working on a project to schedule a machine shop, basically I've got everything covered BUT date calculations, I've got a method called schedule (working on PHP here): public function schedule($start_date, $duration_in_minutes) Now my problem is, currently I'm calculating end time manually because time calculations have the following rules: During weekdays, work with business hours (7:00 AM to 5:00 PM) Work on Saturdays from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM Ignore holidays (in Colombia we have A LOT of holidays) I already have a lookup table for holidays, I also have a Java version of this algorithm that I wrote for a previous version of the project, but that one's also manual. Is there any way to calculate an end time from a start time given duration?, my problem is that I have to consider the above rules, I'm looking for a (maybe?) math based solution, however I currently don't have the mind to devise such a solution myself. I'll be happy to provide code samples if necessary.

• Calculate gears rotation for a realtime simulation

  Hi I'm trying to do a game with real time simulations of gears. There is a big Gear with inside a smaller gear. I managed to draw gears with different diameters but equal size teeth, but if i try to move the smaller one inside the bigger one the movement is odd. see the animated gif. the biggest gear is in center C1 and the small in the center C2. I calculate C2 position in this way: C2.x = C1.x + C1_RADIUS-C2_RADIUS) * cos(t); C2.y = C1.y - C1_RADIUS-C2_RADIUS) * sin(t); for t that goes from 0 to TWO_PI in n steps. I apply as rotation the angle t, but maybe it is wrong and i have to calculate another rotation for get a perfect joint

• VMware sharing folders between Win7 (host) and Ubuntu (guest)

  What is the best way to share a folder between Win7 64bit (host) and Ubuntu 10.10 (guest) in VMware player? I can setup the sharing just fine (using vmware-tools), but all shared files are root:root owned with 777 permission set. Which, well, sucks. What can I do to have shared files with preserved ownership and permissions? I'm guessing I would need some kind of a file container, that would get mounted in Ubuntu as a block device (if so, it would need to be dynamic, i.e. expand with size of contained files). But maybe there is a better solution?

• Low complexity shader to indicate the sides of a polyline

  I have a bunch of polylines that I draw using GL_LINES. They can have thousands of points. They actually represent the separation of land and water on a map. I don't have complete polygons, just the ordered set of points. I'm looking for a neat but efficient way to visually convey Side A and Side B as being different. For example I could offset the polyline in one direction a few times and fade it out (but every offset is doubling the number of points), or offset it once to make a "ribbon" and give one side a 'glow' like effect to mimic the outer glow or shadow of a polygon). This is for a mobile application and I'm using OpenGL ES 2. I'd like to keep the effect as simple as possible from a complexity stand point. I'm looking for some additional ideas; maybe there's a clever shader technique out there or a visual effect I haven't considered.

• Google Bot trying to access my web app's sitemap

  Interesting find today...   I was perusing the event log on our web server today for any unexpected ASP.NET exceptions/errors. Found the following:   Exception information: Exception type: HttpException Exception message: Path '/builder/builder.sitemap' is forbidden. Request information: Request URL: https://www.bondwave.com:443/builder/builder.sitemap Request path: /builder/builder.sitemap User host address: 66.249.71.247 User: Is authenticated: False Authentication Type: Thread account name: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE   At first I thought this was maybe an attempt by a hacker to mess with the sitemap. Using a handy web site (www.network-tools.com) I did a lookup on the IP address and found it was a Google bot trying to crawl the application. In this case, I would expect an exception or 403 since the site requires authentication anyway.

• How to avoid getting carried away with details?

  When I program, I often get too involved with details. There might be some little thing that doesn't do exactly what I want it to, or maybe there's some little feature I want to add. Either way, none are really essential to the application - it's just a minor niusance (if any). However, when trying to fix it, I may happen to spend way more time on it than I planned, and there are things much more important that I should be doing instead of dealing with this little detail. What can I do to avoid getting carried away with details, when there's more essential things that need doing? • Good floor planner program?

  I'm planning to have a house built. I want to draw up some sketches on the computer, so I am looking for a program that can help me do this. It doesn't have to be a professional architecture tool; in fact that would be too complicated just yet (but maybe later on, for the detailed work...?). A simpler tool would be better. Features should include such things as ability to draw and move walls (not just using simple boxes), calculate room/floor area, add windows and doors, and the like. That's why Inkscape or OOo Presentation won't do. On Windows, a friend would just download a cracked professional architecture tool but that is not what I want to do. Suggestions?

• Google webmaster tools / Geographic location settings

  I am building an website. It has an .nl domain. Now only my domain is showing up on google.nl I hope I can change this somehow that it could be findable in all google's (like google.com / co.uk) and so on. If I look on google forums. They say go to webmaster tools and change your geographic position over there. But I have added this site and I am not able to change it there because there is no select box. I dont have any idea were to search (yes I searched on google offcourse) or where to ask for this special problem. So maybe here can someone redirect me or explain me what is possible and what not. We sure do not want to collect data during development and QA (or maybe collect data to a different analytics account), but we want to when the site goes to production (obviously). • For 2D games, is there any reason NOT to use a 3D API like Direct3D or OpenGL?

  I've been out of hobby Game Development for quite a while now. Back when I did it, most people used Direct Draw to create 2D games. By the time I stopped people were saying OpenGL or Direct3D with an orthogonal projection is just the way to go. I'm thinking about getting back into creating 2D games, in particular on mobile phone but maybe on the XNA platform as well. To make something using OpenGL I'd have a (hopefullly) small learning curve to acclimate myself to 3D development. Is there any reason to skip that and instead work with a 2D framework where I just have a Width x Height frame buffer I need to fill with pixels?

• Any open source editor to make video games online without programming knowledge?

  With Scratch we can create video games online, from its web platform, and publish them on the same web. I could download its source code and use it, as many others already did (see Scratch modifications). Unfortunately, we need programming knowledge to use it. Actually, Scratch is mainly for teaching kids to code. I also found editors like Construct 2, GameSalad Creator and many others (just type on Google: create a video game without programming). With those editors we can create video games without coding. Unfortunately they are neither open source nor web platform. They need to be installed on Windows or Mac. Do you know some editor like Construct 2 or GameSalad Creator but open source and executable from a web server? Maybe some HTML5 game engine can do it?

• How to disable framebuffer in initramfs in 14.04 server?

  Recently I'm working on ubuntu 14.04 server. While using plymouth, I have late splash and tried to fix it, I googled and got lots of suggestions on doing this: vi /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash and add: FRAMEBUFFER=y and update-initramfs -u After doing this, I got no splash at all.So I deleted the FRAMEBUFFER=y and re-update initramfs, splash came back. But after that I installed something, maybe it's remastersys or n86v or their dependencies, or something else, I got splash gone again and according to the boot.log, I think it's due to framebuffer enabled in initramfs again. I tried FRAMBUFFER=n in /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash but failed. Now I got no splash and still can't get it back. Does anyone know how to disable framebuffer in initramfs? Thanks a lot!

  A while ago I finished my Msc in Electrical Engineering and started working as an engineering consultant where I mostly do development work. I am good at picking up languages/technologies tools. I have fiddled with C/C++/C#/perl/ant/bash/html/css etc. Although I have never had a complain for my work, rather the contrary, I just feel that some day, someone will ask me a real hard task which would maybe seem rather trivial for a computer scientist but hard for me. Should I read/do something to become a better developer. Should I pick up a book about design patterns or algorithms for example? Is this normal that I have this kind of "fear"? Therefore I created an own Icon and moved it to: /usr/share/icons/ubuntu-mono-dark/status/22 It is named indicator-notify.svg Heres the code for the icon. ind = appindicator.Indicator ("notify", "indicator-notify", appindicator.CATEGORY_APPLICATION_STATUS) ind.set_status (appindicator.STATUS_ACTIVE) This Icon is not displayed. Although every other icon from this folder is. What did I miss? Is there maybe the need to "register" the icon in GTK ?

• Changing my Sun SCJP certification to an Oracle one?

  I hold a Sun SCJP from ten years ago or so. At first it was supposed to be a temporary certification (valid for a few years, I don't remember exactly: all I remember is that I had an expiration date on my certification card) then Sun changed their mind and decided the SCJP was lifetime valid. Another SCJP programmer told me I could change my cert so I contacted Sun (there was a procedure for that that I don't remember either) and received my new SCJP (without any expiration date). Now that Oracle bought Sun I was wondering: can I get somehow a Oracle/Sun SCJP paper/card/badge whatever knowing that I do own a SCJP? If anyone here holding an old SCJP changed it to an Oracle/Sun one (if such a thing exist), I'd be interested to hear what can be done. (btw I'm new here so I cannot create a new tag: maybe someone with more rep could create a Sun tag?)

• Scrambled screen on 12.04 with Radeon HD 7670M/2GB when scrolling the page

  I have Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit and I have installed proprietary drivers for my Radeon HD 7670M with 2GB memory. But if I scroll page or do anything like move a window then I get blurred screen (more like scrambled maybe) for a second and if I try to take PrtScr of it, it is goes to normal. I have tried other drivers and it does not solve my problem. And I do not want to go over 32 bit Ubuntu because I have 6 GB ram and I would lose so much of it. Also if it helps, my processor is Intel® Core™ i5-3210M CPU @ 2.50GHz × 4.

• SVG images grow and create scrollbars when on the server

  Okay so I embedded some SVG images into my page and opened it locally on Chrome and it looked fine. I upload the same file to the server and look at the page online and the SVG images have grown by maybe 5-10% and are surrounded by scroll bars like they are overflowing. I think it probably has to do with my lack of knowledge on how SVG and Embed work. What's really puzzling me though, is that it works fine locally. (I have cache disabled.) Help? Thanks. I'm not sure if I was just wrong before or if I changed something I'm not aware of, but it doesn't appear to be actually changing size anymore. • PlayOnLinux Unable to find 32bit opengl libraries Dual ATI Videocards

  Im curently running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64Bit So, i installed league of legends fine the first time with the opensource ATI Drivers provided by ubuntu itself with no issues at all, but it runs so slow ... max 20fps because those drivers dont fully support my Dual Graphic cards Than i restored system and i installed the Linux Version of the Proper ATI Drivers from the AMD Website wich supports my APU AMD-A8-4500M with the AMD Radeon 7640G + 7670M Graphics Cards enabling me full performance from my system .. Problem is, to run League of Legends i need a 32bit opengl library, and the driver, automaticly detects a 64bits Linux install and loads the 64bit libraries but not the 32 ones . i need some kind of command, to force the 32bit libraries to load, or to make League of Legends run on the 64 ones .. Im kinda noob to ubuntu .. i installed the 32 bits ones trough terminal and still doesnt work idk why, maybe the driver doesnt want to load them .. plzz help me on this, i dont want to go back to windows just to play league since im noob idk what more details to post here so plz tell me what do you need

• What is the easiest and shortest way to draw a 2d line in c/c++?

  I am fairly new to c/c++ but I do have experiance with directx and opengl with java and c#. My goal is to create a 2d game in c with under 2 pages of code. Most of what I have seen requires 3 pages of code to just get a window running. I would like to know the shortest code to get a window running where I can draw lines. I believe this can be done in less lines with opengl versus directx. Is there maybe an api or framework i can use to shorten it more? Also, it would be nice if the solution were cross platform compatible.
