• Profiling Java running by JNI calls

  Hi, I have a C++ code that upon execution: Loads JVM (I have full control on how to load the JVM), and call Java methods (from loaded classes) using C JNI code. The Java code has no Main() and it is actually not a standard Java application. it is mainly a static code that compiled and compacted into Jar file, the code is being called by the C++ module. Is it possible to profile this Java code being executed by YourKit (have license for it)? If so I'll be glad to know how. Thanks, Guy

• Is 'donation' considered as commerical?

  I want to port an open source program to iPhone, the license prohibited any commercial use of the code. I emailed the author and he sent back an email saying freeware is ok. Of course I cannot (should not) charge anything on top of the code. Still, I want to get compensation for my work on UI design, graphics and integration work. So I wonder: Is donation (via PayPal) OK for my case? Is in-app purchase OK? i.e. the program is free, the user has the option to buy addition theme graphics? Thanks

• fast on-demand c++ compilation [closed]

  I'm looking at the possibility of building a system where when a query hits the server, we turn the query into c++ code, compile it as shared object and the run the code. The time for compilation itself needs to be small for it to be worthwhile. My code can generate the corresponding c++ code but if I have to write it out on disk and then invoke gcc to get a .so file and then run it, it does not seem to be worth it. Are there ways in which I can get a small snippet of code to compile and be ready as a share object fast (can have a significant start up time before the queries arrive). If such a tool has a permissive license thats a further plus. Edit: I have a very restrictive query language that the users can use so the security threat is not relevant. My own code translates the query into c++ code. The answer mentioning clang is perfect.

  Hi, The legal section of this site mentions that all code by the contributors is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike License. Does this mean that I have to attribute the submitter even if the code in question is a few lines amongst hundreds or thousands of lines of code? What if I use code from a book or SDK? For eg; If I use the sample code from Google's Android SDK documentation, does that mean I need to attribute Google every time I write an app, after all it would be impossible to write an app without consulting the SDK docs, atleast initially... I am totally confused :S

• Sed: Deleting all content matching a pattern

  I have some plist files on mac os x that I would like to shrink. They have a lot of <dict> with <key> and values. One of these keys is a thumbnail which has a <data> value with base64 encoded binary (I think). I would like to remove this key and value. I was thinking this could maybe be done by sed, but I don't really know how to use it and it seems like sed only works on a line-by-line basis? Either way I was hoping someone could help me out. In the file I would like to delete everything that matches the following pattern or something close to that: <key>Thumbnail<\/key>[^<]*<\/data> In the file it looks like this: // Other keys and values <key>Thumbnail</key> <data> TU0AKgAAOEi25Pqx3/ip2fak0vOdzPCVxu2RweuPv+mLu+mIt+aGtuaEtOSB ... dCBBcHBsZSBDb21wdXRlciwgSW5jLiwgMjAwNQAAAAA= </data> // Other keys and values Anyone know how I could do this?   Hi, I have almost completed my Android application so am considering ways of distributing the application. I have seen some applications on Market have free limited/locked version and separate Unlock Key/License Key which unlocks extra functionality. How is this done? Has anyone here done this? If so, how well does it work? I am thinking maybe this is better then having two versions of the same application (i.e Lite and Pro). Thanks.

• Including non-Python files with setup.py

  How do I make setup.py include a file that isn't part of the code? (Specifically, it's a license file, but it could be any other thing.) I want to be able to control the location of the file. In the original source folder, the file is in the root of the package. (i.e. on the same level as the topmost __init__.py.) I want it to stay exactly there when the package is installed, regardless of operating system. How do I do that?

  I'm now on my third full day this week of trying to get OpenCV to work with Python. (I have been trying on and off for the past 6 months). • Why does py2exe remove `help` and `license`?

  I packaged my Python app with py2exe. My app is a wxPython GUI, in which there is an interactive Python shell. I noticed that I can't do help(whatever) in the shell. I investigated a bit and discovered that after the py2exe process, 3 items were missing from __builtin__. These are help, license, and another one I haven't discovered. Why is this happening and how can I stop it? I want the users of my program to be able to use the help function of Python.

• Is the development stack of java/spring/hibernate/eclipse/tomcat/mysql riddled with config hacking?

  From a M$ development perspective, using things like vs.net/c#/asp.net/asp.net mvc/sql server, things are pretty much smooth. (Obviously for someone coming from a microsoft background like me). Now I love the idea of open source, linux and terminal servering into the computer and doing things via the command line, no license issues really, etc. I've tried firing up eclipse etc., but I always seem to get stuck on some configuration issue or another. Does it get easier or is it just the territory when you are dealing with the java stack?

  Hi, Is it possible to run the 32-bit version of Visual Studio 2008 Professional on a Windows Vista 64-bit system? Are there any known caveats that I would need to be aware of? Would have to install the x64 version of the .NET Framework? Would there be any issues on building software targeted for x86? Would there be any (justifiable) arguments for getting the x64 version of VS2008 instead of reusing the current x86 license? Quite tempted on getting a x64 Vista rig to be able to take advantage of more RAM :)

  I have developed a web service which accepts the login credentials from the XML message passed to it. I have concerns over this method as the developer who consumes the service can easily share the login credentials and my service can be called from some other application that uses the same credentials. Is there any way that I can issue a 'license' to some specific applications? So that, even if credentials are shared among the consuming apps, only authorized ones can successfully consume the service. P.S: I thought about implementing IP restrictions but that doesn't serve the purpose as we may have different applications installed on a same server (we do have such a scenario implemented).

• App crashing on open on Motorola Backflip only

  I have recently published my second app on the Android Market. I've gotten a few e-mails about the app crashing on open, and all users were using the Motorola Backflip. It seems to work fine on all other devices. The app shows the background image, but crashes right after that. Is there something different I have to do when coding for that device? The strange thing is that it is very similar to my first app, which seems to work just fine for them. The major difference is that my second app is a paid app, and uses Android Licence Verification. My implementation should catch any license errors though, and I've tested this on my device. Users have uninstalled and reinstalled the app without success. I'm stumped. The other thing they're reporting is that the icon doesn't even show properly, but rather is a gear in a box, which makes me think that something goes awry very early in the installation process.

• Why is Python 3.1.3 in the header listed as a syntax error?

  Hi, I'm a newbie programmer so I'll do my best to clearly ask my question. I'm running Python scripts in Mac 10.6.5 and now trying to write and save to a text file (following instructions in HeadsUp Python book). Whenever I hit function+F5 (as instructed) I get the same "invalid syntax" error and Idle highlights the "1" in "Python 3.1.3" of the header. Here's the header to which I'm referring: Python 3.1.3 (r313:86882M, Nov 30 2010, 09:55:56) [GCC 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5494)] on darwin Type "copyright", "credits" or "license()" for more information. Extremely frustrating. I've checked and rechecked the code but this doesn't seem to be code related because the "syntax error" is in regards to the header text that posts in every Idle/Python session. Help anyone? • does TFS easily allow you to share testresults with people who don't have TFS?

  I'd like to publish a set of test results to a place where team members who don't have TFS can see the results. Does TFS do anything like this easily? I see that that test results do get published, but without a TFS license I don't see any way for people to view them. I think I can do this easily by pulling the XML from the test results and then pushing that out to a central location, but I was wondering if there's anything like an "official" way to do this. TFS is hard to work with when you have some people who have access to it and others who don't... I really wish there was some sort of read-only access to the server (let people get files but not check them out for instance).

• How to read system information in C++ on Windows and Linux?

  I need to read system information like CPU/RAM/disks usage in C++. Maybe swap, network and process too but that's less important. It has probably been done thousand of times before so I first tried to search for a library. Someone here suggested SIGAR, which seems to fit my needs but it has a GPL license and it is for inclusion in a proprietary product. So it's not an option here. I feel like it's something not that easy to implement, as it'll need testing on several platforms. So a library would be welcome. If you don't know of any library, could you point me in the right direction for both platforms?

• Running lmgrd on ubuntu 14.04 LTS

  I have installed Xilinx 14.7 in ubuntu 14.04 LTS machine(i386 - 64bit). But I am unable to run lmgrd (for starting the license server). When I googled this problem, I found that lsb-core package needs to be installed. But the package is having many dependencies, I want to know how to install lsb-core package with all the necessary dependencies.
