• Break in Class Module vs. Break on Unhandled Errors (VB6 Error Trapping, Options Setting in IDE)

  Basically, I'm trying to understand the difference between the "Break in Class Module" and "Break on Unhandled Errors" that appear in the Visual Basic 6.0 IDE under the following path: Tools --> Options --> General --> Error Trapping The three options appear to be: Break on All Errors Break in Class Module Break on Unhandled Errors Now, apparently, according to MSDN, the second option (Break in Class Module) really just means "Break on Unhandled Errors in Class Modules". Also, this option appears to be set by default (ie: I think its set to this out of the box). What I am trying to figure out is, if I have the second option selected, do I get the third option (Break on Unhandled Errors) for free? In that, does it come included by default for all scenarios outside of the Class Module spectrum? To advise, I don't have any Class Modules in my currently active project. I have .bas modules though. Also, is it possible that by Class Mdules they may be referring to normal .bas Modules as well? (this is my second sub-question). Basically, I just want the setting to ensure there won't be any surprises once the exe is released. I want as many errors to display as possible while I am developing, and non to be displayed when in release mode. Normally, I have two types of On Error Resume Next on my forms where there isn't explicit error handling, they are as follows: On Error Resume Next ' REQUIRED On Error Resume Next ' NOT REQUIRED The required ones are things like, checking to see if an array has any length, if a call to its UBound errors out, that means it has no length, if it returns a value 0 or more, then it does have length (and therefore, exists). These types of Error Statements need to remain active even while I am developing. However, the NOT REQUIRED ones shouldn't remain active while I am developing, so I have them all commented out to ensure that I catch all the errors that exist. Once I am ready to release the exe, I do a CTRL+H to find all occurrences of: 'On Error Resume Next ' NOT REQUIRED (You may have noticed they are commented out)... And replace them with: On Error Resume Next ' NOT REQUIRED ... The uncommented version, so that in release mode, if there are any leftover errors, they do not show to users. And, is it possible that when they use the term "Class Module" they may be referring to .bas Modules as well? If you enable this policy setting, Remote Desktop Services uses the path specified in the Set path for Remote Desktop Services Roaming User Profile policy setting as the root folder for the mandatory user profile. All users connecting remotely to the RD Session Host server use the same user profile. If you disable or do not configure this policy setting, mandatory user profiles are not used by users connecting remotely to the RD Session Host server. I have a situation where only some users need to use mandatory profiles for logging in to a Remote Desktop Session Host. If I have some users with ntuser.dat and some users ntuser.man in their roaming profile what will RD Session Host do To a user who has ntuser.man in their roaming profile and has the setting set to Disabled? To a user who has ntuser.dat in their roaming profile and has the setting set to Enabled?

• Why does my laptop resume immediately after suspend?

  I seem to be having some problem with suspend mode. Every time I try to suspend my laptop, it just locks the screen. Or maybe it successfully suspends just to resume only an instant after. • Best way to load application settings

  A simple way to keep the settings of a Java application is represented by a text file with ".properties" extension containing the identifier of each setting associated with a specific value (this value may be a number, string, date, etc..). C# uses a similar approach, but the text file must be named "App.config". In both cases, in source code you must initialize a specific class for reading settings: this class has a method that returns the value (as string) associated with the specified setting identifier. // Java example Properties config = new Properties(); config.load(...); String valueStr = config.getProperty("listening-port"); // ... // C# example NameValueCollection setting = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings; string valueStr = setting["listening-port"]; // ... In both cases we should parse strings loaded from the configuration file and assign the ??converted values to the related typed objects (parsing errors could occur during this phase). After the parsing step, we must check that the setting values ??belong to a specific domain of validity: for example, the maximum size of a queue should be a positive value, some values ??may be related (example: min < max), and so on. Suppose that the application should load the settings as soon as it starts: in other words, the first operation performed by the application is to load the settings. Any invalid values for the settings ??must be replaced automatically with default values??: if this happens to a group of related settings, those settings are all set with default values. The easiest way to perform these operations is to create a method that first parses all the settings, then checks the loaded values ??and finally sets any default values??. However maintenance is difficult if you use this approach: as the number of settings increases while developing the application, it becomes increasingly difficult to update the code. • Some help needed with setting up the PERFECT workflow for web development with 2-3 guys using subver

  Hey guys! I run a small web development company along side with my brother and friend. After doing extensive research I have decided on using subversion for version control. Here is how I currently plan on running typical development. Keep in mind there are 3 of us each in a separate location. I set up an account with springloops (springloops.com) subversion hosting. Each time I work on a new project, I create a repository for it. So lets say in this case I am working on site1. I want to have 3 versions of the site on the internet: Web Development - This is the server me and the other developers publish to. (site1.dev.bythepixel.com) Client Preview - This is the server that we update every few days with a good revision for the client to see. (site1.bythepixel.com) Live Site - The site I publish to when going live (site1.com) Each web development machine (at each location) will have a local copy of xamp running virtual host to allow multiple websites to be worked on. The root of the local copy is set up to be the same as the local copy of the subversion repository. This is set up so we can make small tweaks and preview them immediately. When some work has been done, a commit is made to the repository for the site. I will have the dev site automatically be pushed (its an option in springloops). Then, whenever I feel ready to push to the client site I will do so. Now, I have a few concerns with those work flow: I am using codeigniter currently, and in the config file I generally set the root of the site. Ex. http://www.site1.com. So, it looks like each time I publish to one of the internet servers, I will have to modify the config file? Is there any way to make it so certain files are set for each server? So when I hit publish to client preview it just uploads the config file for the client preview server. I don't want the live site , the client preview site and the dev site to share the same mysql server for a variety of reasons. So does this once again mean that I have to adjust the db server info each time I push to a different site? Does this workflow make sense? If you have any suggestion please let me know. I plan for this to be the work flow I use for the next few year. I just need to put a system in place that allows for future expansion! Thanks a bunch!!

  Why is it that when my Silverlight project is built, the output directory contains a bunch of culture specific directories: ar\System.Windows.Controls.resources.dll bg\System.Windows.Controls.resources.dll ca\System.Windows.Controls.resources.dll etc etc etc Also the root of the build output contains: System.Xml.Linq.dll System.windows.Controls.dll I have gone through the projects in my solution and made sure that "Copy Local" is set to false for all the referances of the mentioned dll files. Those 2 files were set to true, but I did switch them to false. Despite my effort to google an answer, I remain stuck.

  Here's what I have in VERY simple easy to grasp terms. My form background is Blue. I created a gradient image from white to the Blue from the form background. This is to give the form a nice gradient look. I added a picturebox to my Form and set this image as the Image. I added a picturebox with a Logo on top of the gradient Picturebox, but it's 'grabbing' the Form background color and not respecting the transparent background image I wanted it to grab. So: Blue Form - Huge pictureBox with gradient - Small picturebox thats supposed to respect the gradient. Help please!

My my project in visual studio I have the following hierarchy: Project CS files ... Resources\ resource.en-US.resx I am trying to read in the resource file as follows: m_ResourceReader = new ResXResourceReader("resources/resource.en-US.resx"); When I run this project, Visual Studio seems to look for the resources folder in the bin/Debug output folder of my project. My questions are: What is the right way to reference a resource file? I would like my installer to place this resource file under my application's folder under Program Files\MyApp\resources\resource.en-US.resx. • Storage model for various user setting and attributes in database?

  I'm currently trying to upgrade a user management system for one web application. This web application is used to provide remote access to various networking equipment for educational purposes. All equipment is assigned to various pods, which users can book for periods of time. The current system is very simple - just 2 user types: administrators and students. All their security and other attributes are mostly hardcoded. I want to change this to something like the following model: user <-- (1..n)profile <--- (1..n) attributes. I.e. user can be assigned several profiles and each profile can have multiple attributes. At runtime all profiles and attributes are merged into single active profile. Some examples of attributes i'm planning to implement: EXPIRATION_DATE - single value, value type: date, specifies when user account will expire; ACCESS_POD - single value, value type: ref to object of Pod class, specifies which pod the user is allowed to book, user profile can have multiple such attributes with different values; TIME_QUOTA - single value, value type: integer, specifies maximum length of time for which student can reserve equipment. CREDIT_CHARGING - multi valued, specifies how much credits will be assigned to user over period of time. (Reservation of devices will cost credits, which will regenerate over time); Security permissions and user preferences can end up as profile or user attributes too: i.e CAN_CREATE_USERS, CAN_POST_NEWS, CAN_EDIT_DEVICES, FONT_SIZE, etc.. This way i could have, for example: students of course A will have profiles STUDENT (with basic attributes) and PROFILE A (wich grants acces to pod A). Students of course B will have profiles: STUDENT, PROFILE B(wich grants to pod B and have increased time quotas). I'm using Spring and Hibernate frameworks for this application and MySQL for database. For this web application i would like to stay within boundaries of these tools. The problem is, that i can't figure out how to best represent all these attributes in database. I also want to create some kind of unified way of retrieveing these attributes and their values.   I have a JeditorPane which has some text in HTML format. When I execute the following command int len = editorPane.getText().length(); The value for len is 7473. But then I try to do the following: editorPane.setCaretPosition(4995); And I get the following exception: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: bad position: 4995 My understanding is that I should only get this exception if the position at which I'm trying to set the caret is less than 0 or greater than the text length. It is neither. How can this be. Thank you, Elliott

  In our web.config I am using the following tag to determine the interface language of an ASP.NET website. <globalization enableClientBasedCulture="true" culture="auto:en-GB" uiCulture="auto:en"/> This works as expected: Client wo request a specific localisation get it, everybody else is happily looking at the en-GB settings. Due to company policy I need to change the date format to the ISO 8601 standard format (YYYY-MM-DD) for everybody. Is this possible at a central place in the web.config or do I need to change this manually in every instance? Addition: Would it be possible to do get this date format when restricting the interface to english? Thanks! =)

  I created a new mysql database and i want to use foreign keys with it... I googled and found out this... InnoDB is one of MySQL storage engines, it supports transactions, row-level locking, and foreign-keys. However, by default, InnoDB is not enabled by XAMPP. To enable it, locate the my.cnf configuration file (normally in C:/xampp/mysql/bin directory) and search for the following lines: # Comment the following if you are using InnoDB tables But the path C:/xampp/mysql/bin directory in my system doesn't seem to have such a file... • Setting Return-Path Header Other than Sender Address using SMTP command.

  Greetings all. I'm faced with an issue with basic SMTP.. I would like to set the return-path header to an address other than the Sender address (i.e. From: Header) using SMTP command. I know MAIL -F sets it. However, I issued the following sequence of commands into my mail daemon (TELNET rlogin) and got the SMTP error 503 - Bad Command Sequence TELNET HELO: MAIL FROM : MAIL -F: RCPT TO: Subject: Test Bounce test mail for bounce functinlaity quit Can anyone of you please suggest me a possible way out of this? • Does setting an onload event for a <script> tag work consistently in modern browsers?

  I observe that placing the following in an external script file has the desired effect in my copies of Firefox and Google Chrome: var s = document.createElement('script'); s.setAttribute('type', 'text/javascript'); s.setAttribute('src', 'http://www.example.com/external_script.js'); s.onload = function () { doSomethingNowThatExternalScriptHasLoaded } document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0].appendChild(s); It adds a an external script tag to them DOM, and attaches a function to the tag for when the script has loaded. I'm having trouble testing in Internet Explorer right now, but I'm not sure if it's related to that addition in particular, or something else. Does this method work in the more modern versions of other browsers, including IE7/8? If not, how else could I go about this?

• Setting AcceptButton to None still closes the form on ENTER.

  I have a MDI windows forms application and my child forms mostly have "OK" and "Cancel" buttons. However I do not want them to be activated with ENTER/ESC keys to prevent accidental saves/aborts. So, the form has both AcceptButton and CancelButton set to none. The ESC button indeed does nothing, but the ENTER button still closes the form by "clicking" on the first button found, sorted by TabOrder. Why is this so? Must I really start doing workarounds and catching the ENTER key?
