  • Proxy to restrict access to certain websites

    Hi all, I'm looking for a solution that allows our office server to function as a proxy that blocks access to certain websites for certain LAN ip's. The solution i'm looking for has to meet these requirements: run on ubuntu server restrict access to certain websites based on a LAN ip (eg: shut out xxx.com for 192.168.1.152) restrict access to a website based on the website url (eg: shut out *.facebook.com) easily configurable (preferably through a web interface, our office manager should be able to operate it thus no commandline fu if possible) preferably opensource Thanks for your time!

    First time on here so forgive me if this is incorrect etiquette but I found this post that has been answered but I have a better solution. As the post was answered I could not post on there. The solution is simple. Pressing Option + Shift + (media keys) does not fire up / alert iTunes. I've tried it with VLC and Spotify on an external keyboard with media keys and it works fine.

With the new tabbed Finder in OS X 10.9 Mavericks, I am wondering if there is a way to implement an AppleScript that opens the duplicate in a new Finder tab instead of a new Finder window? Did anybody succeed in finding a solution?

  • IPv6 tunnel broker setup

    I'm working on a solution to allow remote Linux nodes that are behind firewalls to be accessible for SSH and web server. Can anyone suggest an IPv6 tunnel scheme that would work with NAT firewalls? And what software would be needed on the remote nodes and the central server? Also I do not believe the ISP at either side does native IPv6. A solution where we could have static IPv6 addresses on the remote Linux nodes would be ideal. Thank you, Fred

    Almost everyday my server is crashing due to hight server load, and even restarting apache or mysql can't solve the problem. I need to reboot the server to solve, or it crash again due to the high load.   • What is the best way to keep a folder synchronized with my USB drive?

    I know there is a similar topic on syncing between computers, but I'm looking for an application to run on one computer that will sync a "document/file" folder with a folder on my secondary/external USB drive. What would be the best solution? I know I could use Dropbox & Live Mesh, but they use up bandwith which isn't very good when I drop in a lot of large files. I'm running Windows 7, but I assume any solution for Windows Vista would work just fine.

I noticed that it was automatically backing up my gmail messages so it ended up caching 11GB of emails even though that's more than my account. The only solution I seem to be able to find is to delete the files in /Users/me/Library/Mail/MyGmailAccount Is this the best solution or is there a better way?

In my haste, I forgot that I also need a solution to encrypt files (primarily pdf, with a xls and txt file here and there). Is there a way to utilize mcrypt to encrypt uploaded pdf files? I understand the possibility of file_get_contents() with txt; is a similar solution available for other formats? Thanks!

She is currently using Chrome and IE, and I have never done that before, even on FF. I would prefer a solution that is simple and does not require additional applications.     Hi, I need to setup my Centos 5.4 server for SFTP with chrooted access only (or equivalent). The regular solution using RSSH find here : http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/howto-linux-unix-rssh-chroot-jail-setup.html seems over-killing to me if we want to manage multiple users... I found the project MySecureShell which seems a lot simpler to install and to maintain. Is it a good solution? Is there something better? Thanks!!

    I have experienced this issue mainly with Excel, Word and Powerpoint 2013, where there is constant pop-up box asking for login credentials as it tries to connect to officeimg.vo.msecnd.net I have searched and found one of the solution, to prevent Office from connecting to the internet (Options Trust Center Settings Allow Office to connect to internet). This solution worked for sometime, but am back to square one again. Solutions are sought, as this is a nagging problem, I am sure others would have experienced the same.

    Does anyone have an idea or hack on how to source my local dotfiles (I will probably need more of them so this solution should work with many files) on remote machines without scp them to remote machine? Is something like scp .bashrc to /tmp folder on remote machine and then exporting BASHRC env variable the best solution? I need this because of our company policy and fast cloud servers deployment and redeployment and I don't want to touch .bashrc files on remote machine so my colleges are able to use their default env which doesn't suit me.

    I'm trying to run shutdown.exe -l -t 10 only showed shutdown help manual. I thought of inelegant but working solution of ping -n 10 localhost shutdown.exe -l How wasteful is this solution?   • Scheduled Tasks - how do I handle a user log off?

    I set a new scheduled task to start "when my computer starts". I assigned an Administrator user to run the task. This is an executable that is supposed to run indefinitely in the background. The problem is, that if the Administrator logs in and then logs off, the task stops running. Is there a solution for this? UPDATE: this was caused because the task running was in java.   • sshfs too slow while remote editing on Eclipse and other IDEs, what options to use to make it faster. *Not* for mac users

    I've been looking into this problem, and it is common. But since there is a package for Mac with the same name, the solution for Mac users is hiding the solution for Linux users and our default sshfs.
