    Possible Duplicate: Can you help me with my capacity planning? Now I habe small cluster with total of 8 nodes. 6 of them are computing nodes (apache and vmware) and 2 nodes are for storage. 2 storage nodes are identical. Each storage server is linux box with 8 x 1Tb WD RE4 in soft raid 10. 1st box is master and 2nd is slave. Data is mirrored with DRDB. We export NFSv4 shares to Apache (for document root) and iSCSI to Vmware. Now all is working pretty good and stable. But it will be soon time to upgrade our system. I have been thinking of Lustre. Does some one has any real experience with Lustre or NFS medium clusters? Will it be good idea just to upgrade server and change hdd's to 3Tb ? With NFS we will always have only 2 servers to maintain (one primary and one slave). Thanks. QUESTIONS: 1) Does some one used Lustre? In production? I have seen a lot of info about how it is hard to setup Lustre because you need to compile own kernel and patches. It's answers from newbies. Is there some one who has used Lustre for some period of time? 2) About disk upgrades - it's only description of strategy. I'm not asking if it is enough 3Tb or not. I just ask if it is right just to replace hdds instead of adding new server (like with Lustre) Thanks again.

  • Frame Accurate Browser Launchable Video Player ... ?

    I have a requirement where I need to enable playback (full screen) of a h.264 MPEG4 (thanks for the correction!) video from a local network, launchable from a browser link on a Windows workstation, and be frame accurate. By frame accurate I mean that I need to be able to scrub through the video in the same way you would with a vtr, stop at a frame, and then move backwards and forwards frame by frame (it is for a very specific compliance requirement where have to be able to check every frame if there is something that is potentially against broadcasting guidelines). The application itself is used to capture notes while viewing the material, so the end model is for a dual monitor workstation, with a web form in one, the video playing full screen in the second (no issue launching the video and manually having to move it to the second screen), and then the user controls the video via keyboard shortcuts or a jog shuttle. I have looked at QT, but the java bindings seem to be dead or nearly so, flash isn't frame accurate, VLC given its streaming heritage seems to be only able to move forward by a frame and not backwards, and all I have left are commercial offerings that in my experience are difficult and expensive to change. Any ideas of where I should look or alternative options? Any advice appreciated!

    Is there a known solution for splitting build process cross the network machines? Use case: We are an average software development company. We own around 50 development workstations (Quad Core 2.66Ghz, 4 GB ram, 200 GB raid). No need to tell that at any single moment not every machine is loaded to the max. There are 5 to 15 projects running simultaneously at any single moment. Obviously all of them are continuously build on server, than deployed to proper environment. Single project build is taking from 3 to 15 minutes. The problem: Whenever we build 5 projects in a row the last project is going to be ready after around 25 - 50 minutes. Building in parallel does not solve the problem (build is only a part of the game, than you need to deploy, run tests etc.) YES the correct solution is to add another build server, but "That involves buying new Expensive hardware, and we already spent a lot!". Yea, right(damn them)! Anyway. What about splitting build among developers workstation? Lets say whenever we need to build project "A" we check 5 workstations and start build on all that are not overloaded. The build can be canceled by a developer if he really needs all the power of his machine as long as there is at least 1 machine that is still building. After build is finished deployment can be performed to a proper environment (hosted on some server, not on workstation :) ). The bigger the company the more this makes sense to me. Anyone tried something like this? Are there any good practices? Any helpful software? (90% of the projects are .net C#)

  • [Qt] How to get rid of OCI.dll dependency when compiling static

    Hi, My application accesses an Oracle database through Qt's QSqlDatabase class. I'm compiling Qt as static for the release build, but I can't seem to be able to get rid of OCI.dll dependency. I'm trying to link against oci.lib (as available in Oracle's Instant Client with SDK). Here's my configure line : configure -qt-libjpeg -qt-zlib -qt-libpng -nomake examples -nomake demos -no-exceptions -no-stl -no-rtti -no-qt3support -no-scripttools -no-openssl -no-opengl -no-phonon -no-style-motif -no-style-cde -no-style-cleanlooks -no-style-plastique -static -release -opensource -plugin-sql-oci -plugin-sql-sqlite -platform win32-msvc2005 I link against oci.h and oci.lib in the SDK's folder by using : set INCLUDE=C:\oracle\instantclient\sdk\include;%INCLUDE% set LIB=C:\oracle\instantclient\sdk\lib\msvc;%LIB% Then, once Qt is compiled, I use the following lines in my *.pro file : QT += sql CONFIG += static LIBS += C:\oracle\instantclient\sdk\lib\msvc\oci.lib QTPLUGIN += qsqloci Then, in my main.cpp, I add the following commands to statically compile OCI plugin in the application : #include <QtPlugin> Q_IMPORT_PLUGIN(qsqloci) After compiling the project, I test it on my workstation and it works (as I have Oracle Instant Client installed). When I try on another workstation, I always get the message: This application has failed to start because OCI.dll was not found. Re-installing this application may fix this problem. I don't understand why I still need OCI.dll, as my statically linked application is supposed to link to oci.lib instead. Is there any Qt people here that might have a solution for me ? Thanks a lot !   • Mercurial central server file discrepancy (using 'diff to local')

    Newbie alert! OK, I have a working central Mercurial repository that I've been working with for several weeks. Everything has been great until I hit a really bizarre problem: my central server doesn't seem to be synced to itself? I only have one file that seems to be out-of-sync right now, but I really need to know how this happened to prevent it from happening in the future. Scenario: 1) created Mercurial repository on server using an existing project directory. The directory contained the file 'mypage.aspx'. 2) On my workstation, I cloned the central repository 3) I made an edit to mypage.aspx 4) hg commit, then hg push from my workstation to the central server 5) now if I look at mypage.aspx on the server's repository using TortoiseHg's repository explorer, I see the change history for mypage.aspx -- an initial check-in and one edit. However, when I select 'Diff to local', it shows the current version on the server's disk is the original version, not the edited version! I have not experimented with branching at all yet, so I'm sure I'm not getting a branch problem. 'hg status' on the server or client returns no pending changes. If I create a clone of the server's repository to a new location, I see the same change history as I would expect, but the file on disk doesn't contain my edit. So, to recap: Central repository = original file, but shows change in revision history (bad) Local repository 'A' = updated file, shows change in revision history (good) Local repository 'B' = original file, but shows change in revision history (bad) Help please!   • In Maven 2, Is it possible to specify a mirror for everything, but allow for failover to direct repo

    I understand that part of the appeal of setting up a Maven mirror, such as the following: <mirror> <id>nexus</id> <name>Maven Repository</name> <mirrorOf>*</mirrorOf> <url>http://server:8081/nexus/content/groups/public</url> </mirror> ... is that the documentation states, "You can force Maven to use a single repository by having it mirror all repository requests." However, is this also an indication that by having a * mirror set up each workstation [b]must[/b] be forced to go through the mirror? I ask because I would like each workstation to failover and connect directly to whatever public repositories it knows about in the event that Nexus can't resolve a dependency or plugin. (In a perfect world, each developer has the access necessary to add additional proxy repositories as needed. However, sometimes that access isn't available; sometimes the Nexus server goes down; sometimes it suffers a Java heap error.) Is this "mirror but go ahead and connect directly to public repos" failover configuration possible in Maven 2? Will it be in Maven 3?

The parts that are blank are actually blank. Has anyone seen similar issues, or assist in tracking down the cause of these events? No other event logs show anything relevant that I can tell. I installed Network Monitor on this machine and did a filter for Kerberos traffic and found the following which corresponds to the timestamps in the security audit log.   • Why can I not get a WDS-originated PXE boot to progress past the first file download?

    I'm trying to work out an automated Windows install process, and thought I'd give WDS a look. After some promising initial progress, I seem to have hit a wall. I imported the boot and install WIMs, and created the capture WIM successfully. However, whenever I try to PXE boot the reference machine against the WDS server, it kinda craps out. It finds the server and downloads WDSNBP.COM successfully, and then gives the message "TFTP download failed." According to WireShark, the only communication between the WDS box and the client box is the successful TFTP request and download of boot\x86\WDSNBP.COM. No further requests are sent. The WDS log on the server shows the same thing, one successful download and no more activity. I've tried every combination of the following, with exactly zero change in behaviour: Win Server 2008R2 vs 2012 vs 2012R2 WDS virtualized on KVM, ESXi, VirtualBox, VMWare Workstation Client virtualized on KVM, ESXi, VirtualBox, VMWare Workstation Every network adaptor type offered by the virtualization platforms. "Actual" network vs isolated, virtual network. MS DHCP server vs Linux isc-dhcp-server Joined to a domain vs Stand-alone I tried changing the boot filename in DHCP to pxeboot.com instead, and it has no problem downloading that file instead, but it then crabs about Boot\BCD being corrupted. Also, with 2012, it doesnt appear that WDSNBP.com does the architecture detection, or at least does'nt report that it did. 2008 reports that it found x64, and then errors. I find myself out of things to check, and I dont see anything immediately wrong. Where do I go from here? WDS server is at 192.168.1.50, DHCP/DNS at 192.168.1.7. Console of the client computer after the boot: MAC: 52:54:00:28:94:0E UUID: blah blah Searching for server (DHCP).....     I have a VMware image that contains our "standard workstation" where I do a lot of testing. I used a Windows 7 Enterprise MAK key (from MSDN) for activation because the doc said that MAK keys don't have to be reactivated when the hardware changes. Activation was done with slmgr.vbs /ipk LICENSE-KEY slmgr.vbs /ato Now after some testing where the virtual hw was changed it says it "needs to activate because the hw has changed". What did I do wrong?

After booting into the install wizard and next-ed a few times, On the disk step, it only shows physical harddrive but not the RAID (RAID-10) volume that I set up on the Dell RAID. Is there a special option that I have to set on the boot? or do I need a special driver for this? Please Advise Thanks

  • internet disconnects

    Internet disconnects and reconnects, computer is in a peer to peer workstation with two other computers XP o/s. Only one computer has this problem the other two don't disconnect. Computer's connect to switch no router is being used. Ipconfig shows a DHCP connection, local area connection status shows packets being sent out but packets are not being received or being received at a extremely slow rate. Tried Winstock tool, reinstalling network card driver, restored to previous date, checked ethernet cable and release/renew IP.

  • Can the Intel C600-series SAS controller RAID SATA drives?

    (Sorry if this is off-topic - technically this is a home workstation setting, but is regarding mostly-server technology.) I have a GA-X79S-UP5-WIFI motherboard and four ST3000DM001 drives, and the IRST manager isn't letting me put the drives in a RAID (it lists them, but the option to select the C600-series controller is simply grayed out). Have I done a mistake? Do I need SAS drives to RAID them on the SAS controller?

    I'm currently running a single Dell 24" (2408WFP) screen, but am considering adding a second. The problem I've got is that I'm currently using the DVI connector to the on board graphics, so will need to purchase a new graphics card. The 2408WFP also has HDMI and DisplayPort inputs, so I was wondering if DisplayPort is worth considering at present over DVI? On the same subject, does anyone actually manufacture reasonably priced DisplayPort cards - all I've managed to find seem to very expensive workstation cards aimed at financial/design/simulation markets.

    I have two servers running BIND, the first is setup as the master of two zones and the second as a slave for those zones. The zones are example.com and ddns.example.com. I have DDNS running and thousands of device entries are dynamically created in ddns.example.com. I wanted to keep DDNS separate from the main example.com, so I created a separate zone that the DHCP servers update. Considering these zones are hosted on the same server, is it possible to have delegation working from example.com to ddns.example.com? For example if my workstation's search domain is example.com and pointed towards 10.1.10.1 for its DNS provider, I would like to be able to resolve hostname.ddns. As it is, I can resolve hostname.ddns.example.com, but would like to be able to resolve just hostname.ddns. Alternatively, if the workstation's search domain is ddns.example.com, what settings do I need to be able to change to be able to resolve web, ftp, etc, which are all hosts in the parent, example.com zone? Does the ddns.example.com zone need to forward to the example.com zone?
