  • Possible to be adequate with respect to decision/condition coverage but not block coverage?

    Following up on a debate that I was having with a colleague. What is the community's opinion on whether or not a section of code can be adequate with respect to decision coverage (all possible decisions have evaluated to true and false) but not block coverage, and if a section of code can be adequate with respect to condition coverage (each simple condition in a compound conditions has evaluated to true and false) but not block coverage.     I'm pondering a question on Brainbench. I actually realised that I could answer my question easily by compiling the code, but it's an interesting question nonetheless, so I'll ask the question anyway and answer it myself shortly. Take a look at this snippet: The question considers what happens when we throw from a destructor (which causes terminate() to be called). It's become clear to me by asking the question that the memory is indeed freed and the destructor is called, but, is this before or after throw is called from foo? Perhaps the issue here is that throw is used while the stack is unwinding that is the problem... Actually this is slightly confusing.

  • Programming issue while applying text to the third party control.

    Hello I have used some third party controls in my windows application. There is a snippet which is being used in our code which re-initializes all the .text property of all the controls on the form. Everything works fine except for a control. This control is similar to the Windows Panel except for it has a dropdown appearance. This control has .Caption property instead of .Text property associated to it. This causes the problem whenever i use such codes foreach (Control oControl in this.Controls) { if (oControl is DropDownPanel) { { oControl.Text = rm_ResourceManager.GetString(oControl.Name + ".Text"); } } } The text is not set here for the DropDownPanel control in the above method. Since .Text is not available for DropDownPanel control. I cannot do the following either .. ((DropDownPanel)oControl).Caption = rm_ResourceManager.GetString(oControl.Name + ".Text"); Cos it shall throw exception if i try to cast oControl with that of DropDownPanel Any ideas how can i overcome such a condition.   • Why do i get a circular reference exception when calling to_json on an ActiveRecord::Relation

    In Rails 3 (beta 3 on 1.8.7), when calling to_json on a relation i get a circular reference exception. Converting that relation to an array first, and THEN calling to_json works. Code That fails: Model.where().to_json (Where model is any model in your Rails 3 app) Code that works: Model.where().to_a.to_json This can be reproed on the console. Has anyone else run in to this? Is this expected?

Is this possible in Swift?

  • Good reasons to pass paths as strings instead of using DirectoryInfo/FileInfo

    In my new code I am not using strings to pass directory paths or file names. Instead I am using DirectoryInfo and FileInfo as they seem to encapsulate a lot of information. I have seen a lot of code that uses strings to pass directory information then they "split" and "mid" and "instr" in long incomprehensible statements until they get the part of the directory they are looking for. Is there any good reason to pass paths as strings?

    I've got an idea for x.org/$randomwindowmanager in combination with a multiheaded setup, but I haven't figured out how it should work. Also I don't really know where to place the feature request. Now for the idea. I've been working with screen (wikipedia:GNU_Screen) for some years now. One thing I like about it, is the fact that I can get a multi-display mode (screen -x), so you can have multiple terminals all connected to the same screen. The fun thing about it, is that you can get 2 terminals with the same content and switch my onscreen layout, without moving the terminals. I admit, in screen it's not extremely useful, but I think for a wm it can be. Imagine this. You've got two monitors and 4 workdesks. On one workdesk I've got my IDE with code, on the second one I've got the output, on the third one I've got the documentation and on the forth one I've got my e-mail and IM clients. At one moment, I want my IDE and output on my monitors, another moment my code and documentation and Yet another moment my IM to consult a colleague and documentation or code. Finally my colleague comes to help me at my desk. I'd like it if we could both watch the same workdesk without him sitting on my lap, so I turn one monitor so he can see it better. It would be great if we could see the same thing that's on my monitor (exclude mousepointer). The thing with most WMs is that your workspaces on the two monitors are either separated or glued together. If they're separated, you can change workspaces on each monitor autonomous, but you can't exchange applications between monitors because they're different x-clients (iirc). If they're glued together (xinerama), you can exchange the applications, but when changing your workspace, the other monitors change too. So, what I'd like to know is this. Is this already possible or should I submit a feature request somewhere (and if so, where?)

  • VB.NET - using textfile as source for menus and textboxes

    Hi, this is probably a bit tense and I'm not sure if this is possible at all. But basically, I'm trying to create a small application which contains alot of PowerShell-code which I want to run in an easy matter. I've managed to create everything myself and it does work. But all of the PowerShell code is manually hardcoded and this gives me a huge disadvantage. What I was thinking was creating some sort of dynamic structure where I can read a couple of text files (possible a numerous amount of text files) and use these as the source for both the comboboxes and the richtextbox which provovides as the string used to run in PowerShell. I was thinking something like this: Combobox - "Choose cmdlet" - Use "menucode.txt" as source Richtextbox - Use "code.txt" as source But, the thing is, Powershell snippets need a few arguments in order for them to work. So I've got a couple of comboboxes and a few textboxes which provides as input for these arguments. And this is done manually as it is right now. So rewriting this small application should also search the textfile for some keywords and have the comboboxes and textboxes to replace those keywords. And I'm not sure how to do this. So, would this requre a whole lot of textfiles? Or could I use one textfile and separate each PowerShell cmdlet snippets with something? Like some sort of a header?   • how best to set text alignment in a table

    Does anyone know of a jquery plugin or snippet that will auto-text-align cells in a table based on content? Specifically, all table cells would be right justified unless there is a visible non-number related character in the cell, then it would be left justified. I'd like to use something like this regular expression to identify non-number related characters in a cell: /[^0-9% +-()]/ Is there a real simple way to accomplish this? I would think something like this: $("td:contains('[^0-9% +-()]')").addClass("left"); would do the trick, but I don't think 'contains' can take a regular expression.

    I'm keen to test out html offline storage and caching with a view to developing a prototype to show off the offline web application capabilities of html5. I've found some webkit-specific samples, but I'm battling to find any decent code samples that even work at all in Firefox 3.6 For a sample, I'd be happy with something that works with the following: Our company uses jquery extensively so I'd prefer samples that use that library or pure javascript. It should at least work on firefox (3.6+ is fine) Can anyone point me to some links that provide some guidance and code samples?

  • Standalone jQuery "touch" method?

    So, I'm looking to implement the ability for a plugin I wrote to read a touch "swipe" from a touch-capable internet device, like an iPhone, iPad or android. Is there anything out there? I'm not looking for something as full as jQtouch, though was considering reverse engineering the code I would need out of it. Any suggestions on the best way to approach this? A snippet of code already available? Addendum: I realize in hindsight the solution won't strictly be jQuery, as I'm pretty sure there aren't any built-in methods to handle this. I would expect standard Javascript to find itself in the answer.

    I know it might be a weird question and its Title too, but i need your help. I am a .net dev , working on platform for the last 1.5 years. I am bit confused on the term usually we say " A Good Programmer ". I dont know ,what are the qualities of a good programmer ? Is the guy who writes a bug free code? or Can develop applications solely? or blah blah blah...lots of points. I dont know... But as far i am concerned , I know I am not a good programmer, still in learning phase an needs a lot to learn in coming days. So you guys are requested to please help me with this two problems of mine My first problem is regarding the proper Error Handling, which is a most debatable aspect of programming. We all know we use ` try { } catch { } finally { } ` in our code to manage exception. But even if I use try { } catch(exception ex) { throw ex } finally { } , different guys have different views. I still dont know the good way to handle errors. I can write code, use try-catch but still i feel I lacks something. When I saw the codes generated by .net fx tools even they uses throw ex or `throw new Exception("this is my exception")`.. I am just wondering what will be the best way to achieve the above. All means the same thing but why we avoid something. If it has some demerits then it must be made obselete.Anyways I still dont have one [how to handle errors efficiently?]. I generally follow the try-catch(execoption ex){throw ex}, and usually got stucked in debates with leads why you follow this why not that... 2.Converting your entire code blocks in modules using Design patterns of some OOPs concepts. How do you guys decide what architeture or pattern will be the best for my upcoming application based on its working, flow etc. I need to know what you guys can see that I can't. Since I know , I dont have that much experience but I can say, with my experience that experience doesnot comes either from degree/certificates or success you made instead it cames from failures you faced or got stucking situations. Pleas help me out.
