  • Input/ Output alternatives for printf/scanf

    It may sound strange that knowing a lot about ios and haing some experience in .net, I am a newcomer to C. Somewhere I got this target to find average of n numbers without using printf and scanf. I don't want the code for the program but it will be really helpful if someone can help me with the alternatives to the mentioned functions.     I like using sentry classes in c++, but I seem to have a mental affliction that results in repeatedly writing bugs like the following: { MySentryClass(arg); // ... other code } Needless to say, this fails because the sentry dies immediately after creation, rather than at the end of the scope, as intended. Is there some way to prevent MySentryClass from being instantiated as a temporary, so that the above code either fails to compile, or at least aborts with an error message at runtime?

    I have a BoundField in a GridView whose datatype (in MSSQL) is time(7). The format is being displayed as: hh:mm:ss.xxxxxx I want to add a DataFormatString to this boundfield so that the field displays in the format: hh:mm:ss Here is a snippet of the .aspx file that I'm modifying: <asp:BoundField DataField="ProcTime" HeaderText="ProcTime" SortExpression="ProcTime" ApplyFormatInEditMode="true" HtmlEncode="true" DataFormatString="{0:F0}" /> I've tried many different format strings (t, T, d, D, m, etc) but it does not change the format of the boundfield. What am I missing?

  • What are the limitations of a STA thread in compare to MTA threads ?

    If we make a thread STA like this: Thread.SetApartmentState(STA); then it cannot run code marked with [MTAThread] attribute. We have seen [STAThread] in windows and console applications but I have never seen code with [MTAThread] attribute and don't know which .NET libraries use this attribute. My question is what are the limitations of a thread with apartment state set to STA, in compare to threads with MTA apartment state (natural .NET threads) ?

    Hi, Just a quick question. I've written some code that returns a custom class Command, and the code I've written seems to work fine. I was wondering if there are any reasons that I shouldn't be doing it this way. It's something like this: Command Behavior::getCommand () { char input = 'x'; return Command (input, -1, -1); } Anyway, I read that constructors aren't meant to have a return value, but this works in g++.   • How can I see what capybara found in a failing cucumber step?

    I started migrating from cucumber + webrat to cucumber + capybara. Now the behavior of "I should see " seems to be somewhat different. Most of these fail now, although I didn't change anything on the page. I replaced the snippet that should be found with some stuff that is on every page and for some text it works and for other text it doesn't. I can't find any pattern in what is found in the page's content and what is not. Webrat used to print what the page content is that it found, in case it did not contain the required phrase. Is there anyway to have capybara show what text it got from the page in which it tried to find the text?

I'm currently working on a clustered WLI environment which comprehends 3 servers: 1 admin server ("AdminServer") and 2 managed servers ("mn1" and "mn2") grouped as a cluster, as follows: Architecture diagram: http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/4112/clusterdiagram.jpg I've developed a JPD process to execute some scheduled tasks, invoked using a Message Broker. I've deployed this project into a single-server WLI domain (with AdminServer only) and it works as expected: the JPD process is invoked (I've configured a Timer Event Generator instance to start it up). Although, I'm having some issues with this, as I cannot get it to work properly, even if it still works. However, I don't see any output coming out neither at AdminServer console or mn1 console.   • jQuery Sparklines: $.getJSON data can't be read

    I'm trying to generate a pie graph with Sparklines but I'm running into some trouble. I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong, but I feel it is a silly mistake. I'm using the following code to generate a sparkline chart in the div #traffic_bos_ss: //Display Visitor Screen Size Stats $.getJSON('models/ucp/traffic/traffic_display_bos.php', { type: 'ss', server: server, api: api, ip: ip, }, function(data) { var values = data.views; //alert(values); $('#traffic_bos_ss').sparkline(values, { type: "pie", height: "100%", tooltipFormat: 'data.screen - {{value}}', }); }); The JSON string fetched: {"screen":"1220x1080, 1620x1080, 1920x1080","views":"[2, 2, 61]"} For some reason Sparklines does not process the variable values. When I alert the variable it outputs "[2, 2, 61]". Now the jQuery code does work when I replace the snippet: var values = data.views; with var values = [2, 2, 61]; What am I doing wrong?

    I'm refreshing my C++ knowledge after not having used it in anger for a number of years. In writing some code to implement some data structure for practice, I wanted to make sure that my code was exception safe. So I've tried to use std::auto_ptrs in what I think is an appropriate way. Simplifying somewhat, this is what I have: class Tree { public: ~Tree() { /* delete all Node*s in the tree */ } void insert(const string& to_insert); ... private: struct Node { ... vector<Node*> m_children; }; Node* m_root; }; template<T> void push_back(vector<T*>& v, auto_ptr<T> x) { v.push_back(x.get()); x.release(); } void Tree::insert(const string& to_insert) { Node* n = ...; // find where to insert the new node ... push_back(n->m_children, auto_ptr<Node>(new Node(to_insert)); ... } So I'm wrapping the function that would put the pointer into the container, vector::push_back, and relying on the by-value auto_ptr argument to ensure that the Node* is deleted if the vector resize fails. Is this an idiomatic use of auto_ptr to save a bit of boilerplate in my Tree::insert? Any improvements you can suggest? Otherwise I'd have to have something like: Node* n = ...; // find where to insert the new node auto_ptr<Node> new_node(new Node(to_insert)); n->m_children.push_back(new_node.get()); new_node.release(); which kind of clutters up what would have been a single line of code if I wasn't worrying about exception safety and a memory leak. (Actually I was wondering if I could post my whole code sample (about 300 lines) and ask people to critique it for idiomatic C++ usage in general, but I'm not sure whether that kind of question is appropriate on stackoverflow.)

    I've got a bash function that I'm trying to use getopts with and am having some trouble. The function is designed to be called by itself (getch), with an optional -s flag (getch -s), or with an optional string argument afterward (so getch master and getch -s master are both valid).   • Compressing as GZip WCF requests (SOAP and REST)

    I have a .NET 3.5 web app hosted on Windows Azure that exposes several WCF endpoints (both SOAP and REST). The endpoints typically receive 100x more data than they serve (lot of data is upload, much fewer is downloaded). Hence, I am willing to take advantage from HTTP GZip compression but not from the server viewpoint, but rather from the client viewpoint, sending compressed requests (returning compressed responses would be fine, but won't bring much gain anyway). Here is the little C# snippet used on the client side to activate WCF: var binding = new BasicHttpBinding(); var address = new EndpointAddress(endPoint); _factory = new ChannelFactory<IMyApi>(binding, address); _channel = _factory.CreateChannel(); Any idea how to adjust the behavior so that compressed HTTP requests can be made?

    Hi, I'm using the cookielib module to handle HTTP cookies when using the urllib2 module in Python 2.6 in a way similar to this snippet: import cookielib, urllib2 cj = cookielib.CookieJar() opener = urllib2.build_opener(urllib2.HTTPCookieProcessor(cj)) r = opener.open("http://example.com/") I'd like to store the cookies in a database. I don't know whats better - serialize the CookieJar object and store it or extract the cookies from the CookieJar and store that. I don't know which one's better or how to implement either of them.
