I was reading the release notes for Visual Studio 2013 and .Net 4.5.1 and it mentioned a new/updated Authentication approach. “ASP.NET Identity is the new membership system for ASP.NET applications. ASP.NET Identity makes it easy to integrate user-specific profile data with application data. ASP.NET Identity also allows you to choose the persistence model for user profiles in your application. You can store the data in a SQL Server database or another data store, including NoSQL data stores such as Windows Azure Storage Tables” There’s a great page on the asp.net site that gives an introduction, overview, how to use it, and how to migrate to it. I won’t be doing a new project for awhile at work, but I’ll definitely be looking into this more when I get the time.

  I am starting an e-commerce marketplace. I am new to e-commerce, but I am taking it up as a challenge. I will have multiple vendors on my site and they will upload their products through CSV files for bulk upload. However there will be certain popular products already listed in the database, they can add those to their listing (like Amazon for 3rd party sellers). I have no idea how to assign product codes for every product, can you help me out? I'm talking about something like Amazon's ASIN number. Or may be is it possible to let vendors assign their own numbers? How does that work?

• Distinguishing between sets of status reports

  I am working on an internal database monitoring system and am at a point where I sort of hit the wall in terms of application design. Basically I have an extensible plugin architecture where I shall have an OK, a warning or an error upon running a db verification. My first question whether it is sufficient to have only one status reported with an optional status message or provide the ability to have more than one returned (with attached messages) and then calculate an aggregated overall status. In particular in the latter case my second issue would be how to distinguish between two verification reports with the same status code (as it can come from different triggers). I would need to do this to see whether some change happened between the current and last verification. I could simply have string comparisons of the attached status messages mentioned above but that does not seem very reliable.

  Sorry for asking this here, I bet it has been asked plenty of times before but this time it's something specific which I haven't understood anywhere else: Suppose I have a service which requires to seek the database for different data once and in a while. For this I have 2 or 3 SSE, each one with a different retry basetime (20000 miliseconds, 1000 miliseconds...). What I'd like to know is if websockets can handle different "data type" accordingly to the request, for example, could I create one websocket to handle a notification system, a chat system, a group system instead of separated SSEs and treat data differently with javascript? And if so, would it be of higher interest (performance) than actually performing different queries to the server through different SSEs?

  The optimistic concurrency model assumes that several concurrent transactions can usually complete without interfering with each other, and therefore do not require draconian locking on the resources they access. SQL Server 2005, and later, implements a form of this model called row versioning concurrency.   Ten days ago, I fixed a bug on a large application and the hot fix has created a disappearing of some data from the user point of view. Data are not deleted, but have been set to hidden status. It could be possible to get the data back, but the thing seems to be hard: I've already spent 10 days to understand and reproduce the problem (mostly with complex SQL queries but sometimes it is necessary to update the database to test the application logic). Is 10 days a normal amount of time for these kind of problems? Should we keep on and retrieve the data or should we tell these users sorry for the loss, but your data have disappeared? Any advice on when to stop searching how to solve the issue?

  I have around 15 templates (this will grow) and each template will have around 10-15 questions. Each question can have answers in different format like text box, list box, dropdown, radio button etc. I need to show one template in a page, at a time based on the input I am getting. What would be the best design approach for this? Put questions data in database and Create dynamic control? Putting in xml and display using xslt? Creating static set of templates? Or any other approach? I don't have too much time to do this. I am going to use Silverlight for this.

  I have only 4 proeject in my solutions. Am trying to run a unit test for one of my class in one of the project. I Create the unit test by: Right clicking on the class choose the create unit test option. I followed the wizard to the end.which resulting the test creation. I just pass the values of the parameter and run the test. but my test keep running. Both surprisingly it runs on other developers pc. NB:My class is connecting to the database and my application is asp.net web form. i know this is not recommended but i want to have my test running now. i have tried alot of samples on the internet but still my problem persist. Could any one tell me the cause of the extreme slowness(more than 30 minutes)

In this talk, I discussed a Master/Detail application that runs on Android 2.2 devices and forward. I used the Actionbar compat Android library to allow the older devices to have an actionbar. I also used a SQLite database for my data.   This question is more a design oriented question than a code specific question. I am new to PHP and I am planning to use PDO as a data access layer. Say for instance I have a class called CITY. Now if I need to create an instance of this class, what is the best technique. Should have a singleton DB access class which is used to write and read data from the db layer. OR should I delegate it to the individual class object. For example if I invoke city.save() (city is a class), then the city class will handle the saving of that city object's data into the database. Excuse my ignorance but i have a java background and therefore trying to understand what is the best design principle for data management when using php.
