• Windows Phone 7, login screen redirect and a case for .exit?

  I know this has been discussed ad nauseum, but I want to present my case.... 1. My start page in my app is login.xaml. The user logs in, the username and password are authenticated through my WCF service, the username is saved in isolated storage, and then the user is redirected to mainpage.xaml. When a user starts my app, and they already have a saved username in isolated storage, they are redirected to mainpage.xaml If the user hit's "back" hard button from mainpage.xaml, they are redirected to the login screen, which in turn redirects them back to the mainpage.xaml since they already have a saved local username. This is causing my app to fail certification currently since the user cannot hit the "back" button to exit the app from mainpage.xaml. My instinct here is to override the BackKeyPress in mainpage.xaml and exit the app somehow. By reading the other posts, I can see that this method is not available. My second idea was to somehow store a property in the app.xaml.cs page that would tell the app to exit when the login page is loaded and that property is set to true, but that seems a bit hacky as well.... Any ideas here?

• How to use urlencoded urls with the GA tracking code

  I've got a site where a booking page has an iframe embedded with the actual booking form. I need to track traffic from the parent site to the child iframe. This should all work just fine with the normal GA code, using javascript like: <script type="text/javascript"> try { var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("<UA CODE HERE>"); pageTracker._setDomainName("none"); pageTracker._setAllowLinker(true); pageTracker._setAllowHash(false); pageTracker._trackPageview(); } catch(err) {}</script> And then ofcourse using the _getLinkerUrl() function to get a url with the proper parameters. So far so good - this basically works (at least I know the principle works as I've got it working on other pages). However, and this is the problem: the server that serves up the page in the iframe was configured by a complete and utter moron (or, alternatively, created by a complete and utter moron). It chokes on '=' characters, so in order to request the iframe page I need to urlencode the '=' signs - but the GA code seems unable to parse the url when this is done. So the questions: 1. has anyone come across this? 2. does anyone know of any solutions to this problem?

• Using an empty column as a divider in a JTable.

  I'm trying to use an empty column as a divider between pairs of columns in a JTable. Here's a picture and code for what I have so far. I know I can change the look using a custom TableCellRenderer. Before I go down that road, is there a better way to do this? • Does Socket open another thread? Does it return something?

  In the client application I call new Socket(serverIP,serverPort). As a result the client application sends a request to the server application to open a socket. Does it start a new thread? I mean which of the following is true? Client application sends a request and immediately starts to execute following commands (not weighting for the answer). Client sends the request and weights for the answer. As soon as the answer is obtained, the client application continues to execute following commands. The second case seems to be more realistic and logical for me. However, I do not understand what happens if the server does not open a socket and it does not say that it does not "want" to open the second (it can happen if the server does not exist or network is broken). What will happen in this case? Will server weight forever? In general it would be nice for the client to know what is the result of its request for the socket. For example I can imagine the following situations: The socket is opened by the server. The server refuses to open a socket. So, server exists, it got the request from the client but it says "no". There is no response from the server. I know that new Socket(serverIP,serverPort) does not "return" this kind of information. But it throws exceptions. One of them is "UnkownHostException". When it is thrown? When the server is not responding for a while (for how long)? ADDED: I just found out that UnknownHostException is thrown to indicate that the IP address of a host could not be determined. So, it is unrelated with the above described situations (server is not responding, server refuses to open a socket).

• DefaultStyledDocument.styleChanged(Style style) may not run in a timely manner?

  I'm experiencing an intermittent problem with a class that extends javax.swing.text.DefaultStyledDocument. This document is being sent to a printer. Most of the time the formatting of the document looks correct, but once in a while it doesn't. It looks like some of the changes in the formatting have not been applied. • AndEngine: Black screen when using LayoutGameActivity

  I used to use SimpleBaseGameActivity for my app and everything was ok, but now I want to add some ads into the app, so I tried to use LayoutGameActivity. But I get the screen completely black and I don't know why. • Images not shown when publishing MVC application to virtual directory inside default web-site

  Hi! I am developing an application using ASP.NET MVC 1 and VS2008. When I deploy it to the default web-site in my IIS6 on WinXP, all images are shown correctly, path to any given image is localhost/Content/ImagesUI/[image].[ext] When I deploy it to the virtual directory, created inside the same site, any image request returns IIS standard 404 error page, while the path is localhost/[DirectoryName]/Content/ImagesUI/[image].[ext] - that seems to be correct, true? I am mapping .* to c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_isapi.dll in both site and directory configurations. When this mapping is removed, images are shown correctly. However, all other URLs do not work, of course. When I am trying to open an image in browser using the URL to it, aspnet_wp.exe process is not even started (I restarted IIS to test it) - I merely get 404 or the image, depending on the presence of * mapping. Thus, I suppose it has nothing to do neither with routes registered for MVC, nor with ASP. The solution that I found is to make Content folder a virtual directory and remove * mapping from its configuration. While that's OK to some extent, I want a better solution, which will explain and eliminate the cause of the problem, not just workaround it. Thanks for your help!

• Which is the correct design pattern for my PHP application?

  I've been struggling to find good way to implement my system which essentially matches the season and episode number of a show from a string, you can see the current working code here: https://github.com/huddy/tvfilename I'm currently rewriting this library and want a nicer way to implement how the the match happens, currently essentially the way it works is: There's a folder with classes in it (called handlers), every handler is a class that implements an interface to ensure a method called match(); exists, this match method uses the regex stored in a property of that handler class (of which there are many) to try and match a season and episode. The class loads all of these handlers by instantiating each one into a array stored in a property, when I want to try and match some strings the method iterates over these objects calling match(); and the first one that returns true is then returned in a result set with the season and episode it matched. I don't really like this way of doing it, it's kind of hacky to me, and I'm hoping a design pattern can help, my ultimate goal is to do this using best practices and I wondered which one I should use? The other problems that exist are: More than one handler could match a string, so they have to be in an order to prevent the more greedy ones matching first, not sure if this is solvable as some of the regex patterns have to be greedy, but possibly a score system, something that shows a percentage of how likely the match is correct, i'd have no idea how to actually implement this though. I'm not if instantiating all those handlers is a good way of doing it, speed is important, but using best practices and sticking to design patterns to create good, extensible and maintainable code is my ultimate priority. It's worth noting the handler classes sometimes do other things than just regex matching, they sometimes prep the string to be matched by removing common words etc. Cheers for any help Billy

• Detect Application Shutdown in C# NET?

  I am writing a small console application (will be ran as a service) that basically starts a Java app when it is running, shuts itself down if the Java app closes, and shuts down the Java app if it closes. I think I have the first two working properly, but I don't know how to detect when the .NET application is shutting down so that I can shutdown the Java app prior to that happening. Google search just returns a bunch of stuff about detecting Windows shutting down.   I recently had this problem on a test: given a set of points m (all on the x-axis) and a set n of lines with endpoints [l, r] (again on the x-axis), find the minimum subset of n such that all points are covered by a line. Prove that your solution always finds the minimum subset. The algorithm I wrote for it was something to the effect of: (say lines are stored as arrays with the left endpoint in position 0 and the right in position 1) algorithm coverPoints(set[] m, set[][] n): chosenLines = [] while m is not empty: minX = min(m) bestLine = n[0] for i=1 to length of n: if n[i][0] <= m and n[i][1] > bestLine[1] then bestLine = n[i] add bestLine to chosenLines for i=0 to length of m: if m <= bestLine[1] then delete m[i] from m return chosenLines I'm just not sure if this always finds the minimum solution. It's a simple greedy algorithm so my gut tells me it won't, but one of my friends who is much better than me at this says that for this problem a greedy algorithm like this always finds the minimal solution. For proving mine always finds the minimal solution I did a very hand wavy proof by contradiction where I made an assumption that probably isn't true at all. I forget exactly what I did. If this isn't a minimal solution, is there a way to do it in less than something like O(n!) time? Thanks

• Security of Flex for payment website

  So, it's been about 3 years since I wrote and went live with my company's main internet facing website. Originally written in php, I've since just been making minor changes here and there to progress the site as we've needed to. I've wanted to rewrite it from the ground up in the last year or so and now, we want to add some major features so this is a perfect time. The website in question is as close to a banking website as you'd get (without being a bank; sorry for the obscurity, but the less info I can give out, the better). For the rewrite, I want to separate the presentation layer from the processing layer as much as I can. I want the end user to be stuck in a box and not be able to get out so to speak (this is all because of PCI complacency, being PEN tested every 3 months, etc...) So, being probed every 3 months has increasingly made me nervous. We haven't failed yet and there hasen't been a breach yet, but I want to make sure I continue to pass (as much as I can anyways) So, I'm considering rewriting the presentation layer in Adobe Flex and do all the processing in PHP (effectively IMO, separating presentation from processing) - I would do all my normal form validation in flex (as opposed to javascript or php) and do my reads and writes to the db via php. My questions are: I know Flash has something like 99% market penetration - do people find this to be true? Has anyone seen on their own sites being in flash that someone couldn't access it? Flash in general has come under alot of attacks about security and the like - i know this. I would use a swf encryptor - disable debugging (which i got snagged on once on a different application), continue to use https and any other means i can think of. At the end of the day, everyone knows if someone wants in to the data bad enough, their going to find a ways in; i just wanna make it as difficult for them as i can. • Adding a footer to a table in another view?

  The app I'm making has a settings view which I want to show on the first run of the app. Normally (after the first run) this view will be pushed onto the screen and there will be a "Back" button in the nav bar. However, on first launch I don't want there to be a back button. Instead, I want to add a 'Done' button at the footer of the table... and then the view can be popped. Here's my code (in my initial view's viewDidLoad). I have removed the back button, but don't know how to add the footer and button. • JDBC programms running long time performance issue

  My program has an issue with Oracle query performance, I believe the SQL have good performance, because it returns quickly in SQLPlus. But when my program has been running for a long time, like 1 week, the SQL query (using JDBC) becomes slower (In my logs, the query time is much longer than when I originally started the program). When I restart my program, the query performance comes back to normal. I think it is could be something wrong with the way I use the preparedStatement, because the SQL I'm using does not use placeholders "?" at all. Just a complex select query. The query process is done by a util class. Here is the pertinent code building the query: public List<String[]> query(String sql, String[] args) { Connection conn = null; conn = openConnection(); conn.setAutocommit(true); .... PreparedStatement preStatm = null; ResultSet rs = null; ....//set preparedstatment arg code rs = preStatm.executeQuery(); .... finally{ //close rs //close prestatm //close connection } } In my case, the args is always null, so it just passes a query sql to this query method. Is that possible this way could slow down the DB query after program long time running? Or I should use statement instead, or just pass args with "?" in the SQL? • Changing JTextArea to JScrollPane Causes it to not be visible

  I am having an issue with JScrollPanes and JTextArea objects and getting them to work together. If I just add a JTextArea to my JPanel, it works fine and shows up where I tell it to. However, if I change the contentPane.add(textArea) to contentPane.add(new JScrollPane(textArea)), the textArea is not longer visible and there is no sign of the textarea either. • Should nested attributes be automatically deleted when I delete the parent record?

  I'm playing around with nested forms in attributes and have a model Invoice that has_many invoice_phone_numbers. I have the following line in my invoice.rb model file accepts_nested_attributes_for :invoice_phone_numbers, :allow_destroy => true, :reject_if => proc { |attrs| attrs.all? { |k, v| v.blank? } } This does what it should and I can delete invoice_phone_numbers from the form by selecting their 'delete' checkbox. But when I delete an Invoice, I have noticed that the nested invoice_phone_numbers are not also deleted. This causes problems as rails seems to reuse id numbers in the Invoice model (Should it? Does this depend on the database? I'm using SQLite3) so phone numbers from previous invoices turn up in new invoices after they have been created. Anyway, my question is should the nested attributes be deleted when I delete the parent attribute? Is there a way to make this happen automatically as part of the nesting process or do I need to deal with this in my invoice model? If so, what is the best way to do this? I would try to go about this with a before_destroy callback but want to know if this is the best way to do this. Anyway, thanks.

• How should I organize my Java GUI?

  I'm creating a game in Java for fun and I'm trying to decide how to organize my classes for the GUI. So far, all the classes with only the swing components and layout (no logic) are in a package called "ui". I now need to add listeners (i.e. ActionListener) to components (i.e. button). The listeners need to communicate with the Game class.   In my main namespace, I have a top level var named "settings" which is initialized as an empty {}. My -main fn sets the contents of settings using def and conj based on some command line args (different database hosts for production/development, etc). I'm trying to access the contents of this map from another namespace to pull out some of the settings. When I try to compile with lein into an uberjar, I get a traceback saying "No such var: lb/settings". What am I missing? Is there a more idiomatic way to handle app wide settings such as these? Is it safe to use "def" inside of -main like I am, or should I be use an atom or ref to make this threadsafe? Thanks! (ns main (:use ...)   I have a function that converts a .csv file to a datatable. One of the columns I am converting is is a field of names that have a comma in them i.e. "Doe, John" when converting the function treats this as 2 seperate fields because of the comma. I need the datatable to hold this as one field Doe, John in the datatable. • Process a set of files from a source directory to a destination directory in Python

  Being completely new in python I'm trying to run a command over a set of files in python. The command requires both source and destination file (I'm actually using imagemagick convert as in the example below). I can supply both source and destination directories, however I can't figure out how to easily retain the directory structure from the source to the destination directory. E.g. say the srcdir contains the following: srcdir/ file1 file3 dir1/ file1 file2 Then I want the program to create the following destination files on destdir: destdir/file1, destdir/file3, destdir/dir1/file1 and destdir/dir1/file2 So far this is what I came up with: import os from subprocess import call srcdir = os.curdir # just use the current directory destdir = 'path/to/destination' for root, dirs, files in os.walk(srcdir): for filename in files: sourceFile = os.path.join(root, filename) destFile = '???' cmd = "convert %s -resize 50%% %s" % (sourceFile, destFile) call(cmd, shell=True) The walk method doesn't directly provide what directory the file is under srcdir other than concatenating the root directory string with the file name. Is there some easy way to get the destination file, or do I have to do some string manipulation in order to do this?

• PHP Game weapon accuracy

  I'm trying to come up with a way for players to fire their weapons and only hit for a certain percentage. For example, one gun can only hit 70% of the time while another only hits 34% of the time. So far all I could come up with is weighted arrays. • Eror while showing returned value on parent window from chield (Dialog box) window using JSF Trinida

  Hi There, I am using Myfaces and Trinidad tld's for page design. In that, I am trying to implement Dialog box which will going to open on button click with tacking some value from parent window and return result to Parent window. Now the problem is I can send value to Dialog box and also get return from dialog box successfully, but there is problem to show return value on Parent window because parent window is not reflecting that value and ask for refresh page. When I refresh page, it again open the pop up, i.e. it resending the previous request. Here is .jspx code. I have download Trinidad dialog code and try to run on local system, but it not showing any dialog box. But once I remove partialSubmit="true" attribute from comment button which shows dialog box, Then I can see dialog box. Is this attribute making an above error? I hope I have explain my problem clearly. Please...Please let me know any any kind of solution, suggestion. I have spend almost a week to resolve this issue, but.......didn't succeed.
