• URL SEO : Using directories or exact keyword phrase in the URL [duplicate]

  This question already has an answer here: What is the best stucture of SEO friendly URL? 3 answers I am trying to understand how to best optimise a url for a page to rank high for specific keywords. Example: a top keyword search is "rental properties in new york". Question is does this keyword need to appear as this exact phrase in the url or should it be broken up into different directories for a better structure e.g.: www.abc.com/en/properties/new-york/rental OR www.abc.com/en/rental-properties-in-new-york Which will help the page rank higher (given all other things on the page are exactly the same)?   I am migrating my blog from PHP to ASP.NET and while recoding the whole website, I figured I might as well improve the URL structure. This is how an url looks like now: example.com/blog/post/755/hakurei-reimu-cosplay-from-touhou-by-kishigami-hana and this is hould it will look after the change (cosplay being the dynamic main keyword of the post): example.com/blog/cosplay/hakurei-reimu-cosplay-from-touhou-by-kishigami-hana-755/ The website is a bit more than a half year old and receives around 650k page views a month, mainly from search traffic. Of course everything would be redirected with 301 redirects. Do you think it is worth changing to a new URL structure, or will it harm the ranking in the long run?

  I want to consult you in an SEO matter which i am completely lost with, I've built a social mobile application that allows users to share text content and made all the content that appears on the application available via the web through dedicated links, however, those links cannot be navigated through the website but they are generated when users shares content through the app to social media networks. I've implemented this method on three applications with totally different content, and I've directed all generated URLs to be from the main company website which is http://frootapps.com so when users shares something, the url will change to http://frootapps.com/qareeb/share.aspx?data=127311. My question, which one is more preferable, a dedicated website for each app that uses such method? or it is ok to keep doing it the same way I am doing it?

• How to make google analytics report on two domains as though they are one site?

  We have a main site that Google analytics is currently running fine on (www.ourcompany.com). We have a page that is technically part of the site (same design, etc.) but is hosted on another server/domain for various business reasons (www.ourparentcompany.com/ourcompanyapp/). Do we just add the normal google analytics code to the bottom of that page? Or is there something more we have to do? If there isn't anything more then couldn't anyone just take your GA code and start reporting analytics to your profile from their site?

• Is It bad for SEO to have internal redirected links? [closed]

  I have a large number of pages having similar but not identical content. Example: site.com/dream_dictionary_flying and site.com/dream_interpretation_flying. The problem is that although not being identical, they are sometimes on the edge of being duplicate content. The solution via redirect 301 in htaccess is simple and can be done in a minute, BUT, changing all existing links on the whole site from "/something" to "/something_else" would take ages, it would be thousands of manual changes taking x hundreds of hours. My question is this; is it bad for SEO to have internal links that are redirected, or rather HOW bad is it? For the human user it would not matter at all but from what I have experienced, the search engines don't like it. Is there any rule of thumb here? Please come back with your thoughts and experience on this. Thanks!

• Google indexed my main site's content under subdomains

  Google is indexing top level domain content as though it belongs on subdomains and I want to disable this. My site has wildcards enabled and we also have two subdomains with unique content. The first subdomain serves as a blog, the second one has only one page. Both have backlinks. Google has indexed content from the main site under the subdomains as well. Let's say that we have a page at example.com/page.html . The same page has also been indexed as subdomain.example.com/page.html as well and sometimes ranks better than the one located at the main site. The thing is that we never placed this content at the subdomain. I've thought about adding canonical tags at the subdomains to help with the duplicate content issue. How can I stop Google from indexing those pages? I don't even know how Google found those, since we never placed them at the subdomains.

Is there any jquery or javascript plugin for this?

• Jquery website is not opening in UBUNTU but in XP, Everything is fine

  I know it is weird, But I just discovered this, jquery.com is not opening in my ubuntu firefox or other KDE browser and hence many sites that copy codes from code.jquery.com also hanged. Is there any solution to this problem. I have found the problem It is actually with the DNS servers I am using, Google DNS, 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, whenever I use these DNS in ubuntu my system stop responding to some sites, actually they are connected nicely, but the request end up in waiting.. I dont understand why...??? I checked my DNS with cat /etc/resolv.conf Even after using Google DNS, it is showing DNS servers I received automatically after connecting to the service provider. I am connecting using Network Manager, not using DNS I provided but using the default one. Any Solution??

• Google Bot trying to access my web app's sitemap

  Interesting find today...   I was perusing the event log on our web server today for any unexpected ASP.NET exceptions/errors. Found the following:   Exception information: Exception type: HttpException Exception message: Path '/builder/builder.sitemap' is forbidden. Request information: Request URL: https://www.bondwave.com:443/builder/builder.sitemap Request path: /builder/builder.sitemap User host address: 66.249.71.247 User: Is authenticated: False Authentication Type: Thread account name: NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE   At first I thought this was maybe an attempt by a hacker to mess with the sitemap. Using a handy web site (www.network-tools.com) I did a lookup on the IP address and found it was a Google bot trying to crawl the application. In this case, I would expect an exception or 403 since the site requires authentication anyway.

  On Lenovo laptops, in order to use F5 you need to press Fn-F5 (same with F1-F12). It's really annoying and I'd like to reverse the situation. On Windows, a Lenovo driver could help: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/Disable-Fn-Keys-E420/td-p/803609 How can I resolve this on Ubuntu 12.04? I couldn't find Lenovo drivers for Linux. UPDATE: Found a peculiar solution for this on Windows. • Google webmaster tools / Geographic location settings

  I am building an website. It has an .nl domain. Now only my domain is showing up on google.nl I hope I can change this somehow that it could be findable in all google's (like google.com / co.uk) and so on. If I look on google forums. They say go to webmaster tools and change your geographic position over there. But I have added this site and I am not able to change it there because there is no select box. I dont have any idea were to search (yes I searched on google offcourse) or where to ask for this special problem. So maybe here can someone redirect me or explain me what is possible and what not. • Why are we being twitter spammed?

  This is a search relating to us: https://twitter.com/#!/search/realtime/scirra We're getting a of of new accounts tweeting: The Layers Bar - Scirra.com Firstly this is not us doing it as we're quite proud of doing everything completely whitehat. Also this tweet doesn't make any sense, "The Layers Bar" seems to be referring to a manual entry of ours. They all seem to be new accounts with no followers and no prior tweets coming in like clockwork every hour. Does anyone know why this could be happening? Could this harm us? It it possible to find out the source of this? I should mention I'm hesitant to report them all as spam because it could look like we are the culprits.

• Sex - in domain name is this bad???

  In short I am working with a company that does trade shows... one of their new domain names has the word 'sex' in but completely innocently. EXAMPLE: www. someproductsexpo .com (Being 'some' 'products' 'expo'). The content is completely inoffensive and I do not see there being any other things that would flag either the web or any emails sent from anyone@someproductsexpo.com as inappropriate. I was just wondering if any has experiences of any domains like this or comments to add? Thanks

• Is my robots.txt working as it should?

  I want crawlers to have access to http://www.example.com but not http://www.example.com/ My robots.txt is as follows: User-agent: * Allow: /$ Disallow: / My site is in google search results, but I am not coming up in Bing, Yahoo, etc. I have had the same robots.txt since last year, and I initially requested inclusion ~1 year ago, having also resubmitted the URL to those latter search engines several times since as well. Is my robots.txt blocking those other crawlers? And if so, why not google as well? Thanks in advance!

• 3D terrain map with Hexagon Grids (XNA)

  I'm working on a hobby project (I'm a web/backend developer by day) and I want to create a 3D Tile (terrain) engine. I'm using XNA, but I can use MonoGame, OpenGL, or straight DirectX, so the answer does not have to be XNA specific. I'm more looking for some high level advice on how to approach this problem. I know about creating height maps and such, there are thousands of references out there on the net for that, this is a bit more specific. I'm more concerned with is the approach to get a 3D hexagon tile grid out of my terrain (since the terrain, and all 3d objects, are basically triangles). The first approach I thought about is to basically draw the triangles on the screen in the following order (blue numbers) to give me the triangles for terrain (black triangles) and then make hexes out of the triangles (red hex). http://screencast.com/t/ebrH2g5V This approach seems complicated to me since i'm basically having to draw 4 different types of triangles. The next approach I thought of was to use the existing triangles like I did for a square grid and get my hexes from 6 triangles as follows http://screencast.com/t/w9b7qKzVJtb8 This seems like the easier approach to me since there are only 2 types of triangles (i would have to play with the heights and widths to get a "perfect" hexagon, but the idea is the same. So I'm looking for: 1) Any suggestions on which approach I should take, and why. 2) How would I translate mouse position to a hexagon grid position (especially when moving the camera around), for example in the second image if the mouse pointer were the green circle, how would I determine to highlight that hexagon and then translating that into grid coordinates (assuming it is 0,0)? 3) Any references, articles, books, etc - to get me going in the right direction. Note: I've done hex grid's and mouse-grid coordinate conversion before in 2d. looking for some pointers on how to do the same in 3d.
