• computing "node closure" of graph with removal

  Given a directed graph, the goal is to combine the node with the nodes it is pointing to and come up with minimum number of these [lets give the name] super nodes. The catch is once you combine the nodes you can't use those nodes again. [first node as well as all the combined nodes - that is all the members of one super node] The greedy approach would be to pick the node with maximum out degree and combine that node with nodes it is pointing to and remove all of them. Do this every time with the nodes which are not removed yet from graph. The greedy is O(V), but this won't necessarily output minimum number super nodes. So what is the best algorithm to do this?

  I am trying to build the following SQL statement: SELECT users_table.*, users_data.first_name, users_data.last_name FROM users_table INNER JOIN users_data ON users_table.id = user_id WHERE (users_table.username LIKE '%sc%') OR (users_data.first_name LIKE '%sc%') OR (users_data.last_name LIKE '%sc%') I have the following code at the moment: public function findAllUsersLike($like) { $select = $this-select(Zend_Db_Table::SELECT_WITH_FROM_PART)-setIntegrityCheck(false); $select-where('users_table.username LIKE ?', '%'.$like.'%'); $select-where('users_data.first_name LIKE ?', '%'.$like.'%'); $select-where('users_data.last_name LIKE ?', '%'.$like.'%'); $select-join('users_data', 'users_table.id = user_id', array('first_name', 'last_name')); return $this-fetchAll($select); } This is close, but not right as it uses AND to add the extra WHERE statements, instead of OR. Is there any way to do this as one select? Or should I perform 3 selects and combine the results (alot more overhead?)? P.S. The parameter $like that is past is sanitized so don't need to wory about user input in the code above!

• WCF - (504) The server did not return a response for this request.

  I have a JSONP WCF service,using back end as MySql.It is working properly when i run it locally with visual studio. Now we have hosted it in Windows Server 2003. Now there is very strange problem occurring.. When I do a request with fiddler which does not require much processing internally, it gives me result 200 OK with desired output as response, But when I do a request which requires some internal data processing, it gives me 504 error(gateway time out error). I also looked at C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles to see if it logs any error but it shows ok result in fiddler request which is as follows: Fields: date time s-sitename s-ip cs-method cs-uri-stem cs-uri-query s-port cs-username c-ip cs(User-Agent) sc-status sc-substatus sc-win32-status 2010-04-07 10:08:06 W3SVC490896353 s-ip GET /InitialState.svc/GetInitialState reference=1&pageId=18 8080 - c-ip Fiddler 200 0 64 Can anyone please help me to resolve the problem ?? • In windbg, how do I get a heap header address from !heap -l results?

  I am playing around with windbg's !heap command, particular the "-l" switch which detects memory leaks. When -l does detect a leak, I am having problems navigating from its results to a stack trace for the source of the leak. Here is a snippet of the results from !heap -l 0:066 !heap -l Searching the memory for potential unreachable busy blocks. But the output for !heap -l doesn't specify a header address! It's only specififying Entry, User, Heap, and Segment. I've racked my brain looking over the other commands but can't figure out how to get the header address from any of these fields. Can someone help?

• Entity Framework - Why does EF use LEFT OUTER JOIN's in a 1-to-1 relationship?

  Why does .NET Entity Framework produce SQL that uses a subquery and left outer join on a simple 1-to-1 relationship? I expected to see a simple join on the two tables. • Works using Django development server, but throws import error with Apache using mod_wsgi

  I have a Django project that works fine with the development server that comes with it. No errors are produced at all when I use "django manage.py runserver" and the app works fine, but when I try to use it with mod_wsgi and Apache the browser displays "Internal Server Error" with a 500 error code and it generates an import error in the Apache error log. Here's the error in the log: ImportError: No module named registration I'm using the Django registration module which is located in a path like this: /opt/raj/photos/registration I know that the registration app is in the path because I can fire up a Python shell, import sys, and get a list of paths using sys.path. Here are some of the paths output from Python shell: sys.path ['', '/opt/raj/pyamf', '/opt/raj', '/opt/raj/pictures', '/opt/raj/pictures /registration', '/usr/lib/python2.6',....] Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  Consider the following table: People FirstName nvarchar(50) LastName nvarchar(50) Let's assume for the moment that this table has a full-text index on it for both columns. Let's suppose that I wanted to find all of the people named "John Smith" in this table. The following query seems like a perfectly rational way to accomplish this: SELECT * from People p INNER JOIN CONTAINSTABLE(People,*,'"John*" AND "Smith*"') Unfortunately, this will return no results, assuming that there is no record in the People table that contains both "John" and "Smith" in either the FirstName or LastName columns. It will not match a record with "John" in the FirstName column, and "Smith" in the LastName column, or vice-versa. My question is this: How does one accomplish what I'm trying to do above? Please consider that the example above is simplified. The real table I'm working with has ten columns and the input I'm receiving is a single string which is split up based on standard word breakers (space, dash, etc.)

• Getting Cabal to work with GHC 6.12.1

  I've installed the latest GHC package (6.12.1) on OS X, but I can't get Cabal to work. I've removed the version I had previously that worked with GHC 6.10 and tried to re-install from scratch. The latest Cabal version available for download is 1.6.0.2. However, when I try to build this I get the following error: Configuring Cabal-1.6.0.2... Setup: failed to parse output of 'ghc-pkg dump' From what I've found searching, this seems to suggest that the version of Cabal is too old for the version of GHC. Is there any way to get Cabal to work with GHC 6.12.1 yet? EDIT: To be clear, I'm trying to set-up cabal-install.

• Why does Opera parse my web page as XML?

  I just tried viewing my website http://www.logmytime.de/ in Opera (version 10.50) for the first time and for some reason it gives me an "xml parsing failed error" and refuses to display the web page. I can choose to "Reparse the document as HTML" and then the page works fine, but that's hardly a solution to my problem. The weird thing is that the error still occurs after setting a HTML (instead of XTHML) doctype: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> I checked the source output from the browser to make sure I did not make any mistake. I even viewed the same web page in Firebug and it shows a Content-Type of text/html; . So, why does Opera still try to parse my web page as XML? Thanks, Adrian

  What's wrong with this code? It works in IE and FireFox, but Chrome does not work. The idea is that the function fnTimeOut will be triggered in 5 seconds after onmousemove. It´s ok. But when, in Chrome, I click on the button "ok" to function fnAlert is triggered instantly.   Hi, I've got a script that changes the background colour of text that has been selected. However i'm encountering an issue when the text is selected across multiple elements/tags. The code that i've got is: var text = window.getSelection().getRangeAt(0); var colour = document.createElement("hlight"); colour.style.backgroundColor = "Yellow"; text.surroundContents(colour); And the error being output is: Error: The boundary-points of a range does not meet specific requirements. = NS_ERROR_DOM_RANGE_BAD_BOUNDARYPOINTS_ERR Line: 7 I believe this is to do with the getRange() function though i'm not too sure how to proceed since I am a beginner at javascript. • What is CDbl doing?

  I had until recently been under the impression that the CDbl(x) operation in VB.NET was essentially a cast (i.e., the VB equivalent of (double)x in C#); but a recent discovery has revealed that this is not the case. If I have this string: Dim s As String = "12345.12345-" And I do this: Dim d As Double = CDbl(s) d will be set to the value -12345.12345! Now, don't get me wrong, this is kind of convenient in my particular scenario; but I have to admit I'm confused as to why this works. In particular, I'm confused because: Double.Parse does not work with the above input. Double.TryParse does not work. Convert.ToDouble does not work. How is CDbl so clever?

  Hello, I have a UL and I'm working to dynamically add a new LI to the top of the UL with some animation. I have the following so far which works ok: $("#container").prepend('<li id="newhere"><input type="checkbox" /><span class="listTitle">Im new here</span><ul></ul></li>').hide().slideDown("slow"); #container is the UL The problem with the above is that is hides the entire UL and then slides the entire UL down and I just want the NEW LI that was prepended to animate. Since NAnt is pre 1.0, when problems occur, I often think if that it is a problem with NAnt itself, but this is not always the case. One funny example: After running the oracle scripts I parsed the log output to make sure there was no problem. I was testing this with a small log file and it was fine. I used the task to load the file contents to a string property and used a regex to search for errors. When I used this script for a large log file, I stopped getting the "build failed" message at the bottom, because I was printing the error messages. Because the "build failed" was hiding at the top, I thought NAnt crashed, but it worked fine. It would be better for NAnt to have a 1.0 release. Any reasons why not?

• How to retrieve .properties?

  Im developing desktop java application using maven. I got a *.properties file that I need to retrive during execution (src/resources/application.properties). The only thing comes to my mind is to use: private Properties applicationProperties; applicationProperties.load(new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream("src/resources/application.properties"))); This would work if I run my application directly from IDE. I want to to keep outpout hierarchy clear, so I set maven to copy resources folder dircetly to target folder (which is a basedir for the output application). This way application.properties file won't load (since I have target/resources/application.properties but not target/src/resources/application.properties). What is the best way to manage resources so they work both when I debug from IDE and run builded jar file directly?

• Automation of testing using JUnit

  Hi, i am trying to automate manual testing of modules in my project. We are dealing with IBM Websphere Message queue software. We have a trigger component written in core java which when executed polls for availability of message in the configured queue. Its an indefinite while loop that keeps the trigger component running. I have written test cases in JUnit to put message in the queue and now will i be able to start/stop the trigger component on demand? Invoking the trigger component keeps it running and i am not getting the control back to check the expected output. If i start it in thread then the log files to which the trigger component is supposed to update when processing the message is not getting updated. How can i resolve this situation. Your suggestion and directions is highly appreciated. Thanks, -Vijay
